"Best environment/experience provider Drupal CMS"

What do you like best?

Best Drupal hosting environment out there. Acquia's cloud environment is specifically tuned for Drupal websites and includes automated deplyoment and workflow tools that allow us to get started on a project in a quicker time, meaning we can spend more time focused on strategy, design, and development. Acquia has a strong product roadmap going into 2018 including personalization, digital asset management, and customer journey mapping.

What do you dislike?

Some pricing for our clients is through the roof. We work closely with our Acquia reps to work on price and as a company they are aggressively packaging deals that make more sense for all sizes of companies. Acquia reps are wildly inconsistent and implore different processes and methodologies in the sales process almost every time we interact with a new rep.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Acquia is the top hosting provider and web-based solutions experience creator for Drupal platforms. If you have a Drupal CMS the only solution to go with is Acquia.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We utilize Acquia hosting, Lift, BLT and a variety of other solutions for our clients. When we can use Acquia on a client's Drupal website, it allows us to get started much quicker, as there are crucial workflow and deployment tools that are set up and working straight out of the box. Acquia's Lift personalization platform is a great tool that we help our clients implement and this clearly shows that Acquia is committed to creating a fully-integrated platform that is tuned for the enterprise.

"Expensive but solid Drupal hosting and support"

What do you like best?

More than anything else, Acquia's mature support infrastructure sets it apart from other Drupal-focused hosting companies. The assorted enterprise features they offer can smooth the deployment of external Drupal services (like Apache Solr for search indexing), but those can be rolled out on most hosting companies if you've got the knowledge.

The large, knowledgable support team, though, is what other hosting services can't really match.

What do you dislike?

Acquia has a specific, optimized deployment workflow; a specific set of expectations about how servers will be configured; and a specific approach to scaling up if large traffic spikes hit. That approach is generally a good one, but if you have exotic requirements or need to step outside of that, prepare to spend a lot of time wrangling.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you need to work with external services or run non-PHP software on your server, have some careful conversations with sales to ensure that there won't be any problems.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Although I don't host with Acquia personally, many of our clients do and we work with their sites and Acquia's infrastructure quite frequently. The biggest benefit over traditional hosting (or other Drupal-focused hosting companies like Platform.sh and Pantheon) is the well oiled support machine.

What Web Content Management solution do you use?

Being a customer of Acquia we receive invitations to various Drupal and Web related events.

What do you dislike?

Acquia is a more enterprise oriented company, it can be quite expensive to use some of their solutions for personal use. Currently Acquia lacks Continuous Integration solution, but I heard it is being developed.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Acquia a way ahead of it's competitors. If your budget allows, switch to Acquia and you will get the best experience. Also some of the solutions are free and/or OpenSource.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

"Reliable and Flexible - Can be complicated at times."

What do you like best?

Acquia Cloud is a reliable Druapl Cloud service and the support for your Drupal sites is top notch. They are behind the source code for Drupal and they really know how to take the most out of it.

What do you dislike?

Very engaged while they were selling the solution. Not so much after they got the deal. I see myself chasing them and feel like they are not pro-active in bringing you solutions/improvements.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We were hosting our sites on-premises and had issues with connectivity, downtime, and in-house Drupal experts.

"Great user experience"

What do you like best?

How we coordinate new partners, and how you find colleagues The use of Git to manage your file and the ability to do incorporate fanning and naming of releases considers various designers to easily migrate changes as they are required.

Acquia tries hard to take care of this issue by elevating this work to framework chairman's hand from designer's obligation. With a basic UI, you can complete the majority of the Drupal server work under minutes, from sending a site to moving down a database. Also they procurement the three phases of server organization from the earliest starting point, only this will increase the value of any Drupal venture.

What do you dislike?

I am regularly a do it without any other individual's help designer, so presenting the all in one stack felt unnatural. couple of things that are cons would cost, for the most part for smaller endeavors, you can find a key encouraging organization and trade the drupal foundation yourself for a less cost. Probably that their organizations are ordinarily totally excessive, so simply gigantic associations or endeavor assignments can deal with the expense of them.

The facilitating expense is generally high contrasting with the greater part of the either self-have or overseen Drupal server. Yes Acquia accomplishes more than simply facilitating, yet extra functionalities won't not get increased in value by little groups, also engineers are so used to do these undertakings through command line which includes straight forwardness on deployment.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Unquestionably try Acquia out particularly since you can get a free engineers record to test drive all the components for yourself and in the event that you have substantial spending plan and manage extensive applications.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

This has illuminated the issue of multilingual substance and having a bound together site. Different favorable circumstances join site examination to ensure proper security traditions are being taken after.

We made a couple cycles which required no under 2 days to support and stress onto the essential sorting out zone before it could be kept an eye on inside for testing.

"drupal the easy way"

What do you like best?

getting started with drupal is not easy even for experienced CMS users. acquia makes the jump into drupal easier.

installation is easy, you download the stack that fits your needs, with or without extra modules, and few clicks later you have a running drupal environment on your server.

the support and webminars are helpful, coming from experts who are contributing to the drupal community.

i was working with vanilla drupal since drupal 5 and only found about acquia wwhen drupal 7 was released, and i am glad i did.

you also get a nice theme and some admin modules that help a lot with admin and maintenance.

you get a free trial, so, give it a go, if you are a beginner drupalist, you would love it.

What do you dislike?

i am usually a do it yourself developer, so installing the all in one stack felt unnatural; )

few things that are cons would be pricing, mainly for smaller projects, you can find a basic hosting service and transfer the drupal installation yourself for a cheaper cost.

another issue can be not having the latest drupal available as soon as the drupal community releases it.

Recommendations to others considering the product

give the trial a go if you are a new or intermediate drupal user.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

ease of setup.

admin automation or simplification

support, getting support via drupal forums can take some time, acquia experts are a much better way to get support

"Good hosting, terrible support, bad billing and wonky admin system"

What do you like best?

Great for hosting and development. Highly optimized workflow (dev, stage and deployment).

Their DevDesktop really is a huge time saver for a team to collaborate on a project.

What do you dislike?

Their platform is pretty bad especially for agencies trying to manage multiple accounts/clients. Any issues you find will be justified as a "feature".

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Efficient workflow involving multiple developers.

"Acquia great hosting for you Drupal solution"

What do you like best?

Acquia has a lot of greater tools that allows you to seamlessly develop and test your drupal sites locally and deploy seamlessly.

I love their Acquia Dev Desktop this tool saves you the headache of setting up your machine for drupal development by automatically installing all the required softwares and tools you need to host a drupal site locally. This tool also allows you to easily connect to your acquia subscription and clone your site down locally or deploy to any environment you wish to.

Another cool thing about Acquia is that i think Acquia has one of the easiest or smoothest deployment process for "deploying to staging" or "deploying to production" as a matter of fact you can have any amount of environments you wish and deploying your code or database is extremely easy. Moving your code from "Environment A" to "Environment B" is as simple as dragging and dropping

What do you dislike?

Acquia Dev Desktop while its pretty useful has a few flaws for example in order to connect you Acquia Dev Desktop to you need to add your ssh key. However the weird thing here is that the software here generates a ssh key of 2048 but ignorer to connect your ssh key needs to be 4096.

So i am not sure why their tool creates the wrong encryption level for ssh and unless your search acquia site or knew about this issue you would be stuck wondering why it is not working

Recommendations to others considering the product

Acquia is a great manage hosting that also facilitates helping you manage your drupal site effectively. Once your a running a drupal site its normal advised that you update your site with the drupal security releases thats done each wednesday.

Acquia however handles this by implementing any security update that is released automatically without you having to do it yourself which allows you to focus on whats most important adding new value as you develop or maintain your site

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

"The absolute best Drupal hosting! "

What do you like best?

Ease of Creating sandboxes and pushing code. It's a truly great offering and it just keeps getting faster.

What do you dislike?

The cost. It's worth the cost for the clients who can afford it, but selling some clients on its worth is sometimes difficult.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It's worth the money for large clients. It's mission-critical managed hosting for mission-critical sites.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Truly managed hosting by Drupal experts means I can spend more time creating great sites and less time worrying about servers. Also, Drupal Desktop make local work a breeze.

"Dream land for system administrator on Drupal server maintanence"

What do you like best?

Server maintanence is pretty tedious and error prone, and this is especially true due to the tight coupling between Drupal application and the MySQL server. Without proper planning and written specification on how to maintain a Drupal server, sooner or later you'll end up with a disaster instance which your team will regret.

Acquia tries very hard to solve this problem by promoting this work to system administrator's hand from developer's responsibility. With a simple UI, you can finish most of the Drupal server job under minutes, from deploying a site to backing up a database. Not to mention they provision the three stages of server deployment from the very beginning, this alone will add significant value to any Drupal project.

What do you dislike?

Although this solution is pretty handy and valuable for medium to large size application, the price is not cheap considering most of small projects can be just site building. The hosting cost is relatively high comparing to most of the either self-host or managed Drupal server. Yes Acquia does more than just hosting, but additional functionalities might not get appreciated by small teams, not to mention developers are so used to do these tasks through command line which adds transparency on the deployment.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Please do if you have large budget and deal with large applications.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Drupal is relatively slow involving community, comparing to other latest PHP framework, so having a solid and user friendly deployment platform will add value to the long term content management systems.

Having system administrator on the deployment is another plus, this separation of responsibility between developer and administrator makes team operate more efficient for larger projects.

"Advantages of using Acquia in a Cloud Based World"

What do you like best?

Acquia has taken the vested time in listening to its customers to ensure there cloud based hosting solution works for all size of development. From small to large based Drupal websites, you are provided with continuous integration with Development, Staging and Production environments. The use of Git to manage your repository and the ability to do feature branching and tagging of releases allows for multiple developers to easily migrate changes as they are needed. Not only can you setup websites quickly, you can also manage your team and environment thru a very nice user interface and then run reports to ensure your site is safe and secure.

What do you dislike?

Aside from the positive feedback that Acquia tries hard to implement, they can sometime be slow to respond or be reactive instead of proactive when it comes to security updates, core updates or support in general if you are using them for a more managed situation. I hope that this gets better in the future especially with the latest attempts by hackers to corrupt Drupal.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Definitely give Acquia a try especially since you can get a free developers account to test drive all the features for yourself.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Acquia is only one of the hosted solutions we utilize in our business. Generally a client will request their platform to help reduce the overhead of managing web and database servers on there own in an AWS structure. This helps solve problems with managing multiple servers, setting up continuous integration and allowing for a managed team workflow.

The benefits are definitely realized when developing larger websites that may experience high volumes of traffic and the ability to use CLoudFlare or other 3rd party CDN's to ensure uptime. Other benefits include site analysis to ensure proper security protocols are being followed and reports for identifying bottlenecks where sites can be improved.

"Acquia is THE Drupal toolbelt"

What do you like best?

The library of 3rd party integration "add-ons" is great. The New Relic integration, in particular, is one of the best. Being able to drill down into a Drupal hook to see the application response time, etc. is worth the price of admission. But Acquia Search, Blazemeter and Mollom are invaluable as well.

What do you dislike?

There is no support for node.js within the Acquia environment stack itself. Near- and real-time applications make use of node.js and Drupal speaking together. Having to tie together several systems across multiple platforms can add a lot of infrastructure complexity.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Everyone's site has issue's at some point, whether it's too much traffic, architecture scalability, network outages, etc. Consider how you want to respond to a site issue. Having the Acquia Team working for you can cut down on sleepless nights. Their network of professionals span the globe.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We do a lot of community sites and we recommend Acquia to our clients to afford them access to the support and scale of the Acquia network.

"Acquia is a great corporate level solution."

What do you like best?

The ease of use. Acquia has a built in process for developing on a dev environment, pushing dev to a stage environment for client review and finally being able to push it up to the live production environment. Debugging is a also easy as the Acquia console can display all logs on the live environment instantly without requiring Drupals DB Log module.

Server down time is also at a minimum. Even if the server does go down, the response time is flawless.

What do you dislike?

COST! Acquia is not meant for individual or small businesses with low budgets.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Compare cost to your budget. If it fits in your budget, I highly recommend Acquia.

"The Drupal Health Benefits of hosting with Acquia"

What do you like best?

Security. Acquia's infrastructure ensures that youy site is behind a highly secure layer of protection. This was especially crucial when a major vulnerability was exposed in Drupal core and sites had to update within a certain time frame to be secure. Acquia however acted quickly and made sure all sites that were hosted on their infrastructure were secure immediately after the security vulnerability was announced.

What do you dislike?

Because Drupal sites tend to require more processing power to enhance performance, the server costs of scaling up to improve performance can be high.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Lower costs of hosting.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Ease of syncing db, code repositories to multiple dev environments and ease of deployment and access to technical Drupal expertise.

"Dev Desktop"

What do you like best?

I like how easy it is to set up and use. It makes it so much easier to and set up use with drupal and it is way better than using MAMP.

What do you dislike?

If you had a problem, which was rare, it could be hard to figure out without paying for support. Answers were easy to find for simple things, but harder for the tough questions.

Recommendations to others considering the product

YES! It is way easier to use and set up than with MAMP. Easy for beginners to figure out as well.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

"Great Company Poised for Growth"

What do you like best?

Acquia with regards to Drupal, is a very innovative company that has done a tremendous amount for the Drupal community with specific support for Enterprise-based companies. The best thing (IMO) about Acquia is that they respond to industry needs almost immediately. Acquia's lift software is a great testament to that.

What do you dislike?

I think that Acquia has opportunities to better engage the "freelancer" with regards to helping to provide low-cost services to the small business and "boutique" clients. Their minimum server package runs around $200 (around) per month and that amount can price out the small business customer. This is disappointing from the security angle as these small sites (and Wordpress sites as well) are more prone to hacking attempts with less resources to meaningfully respond and protect. I think a $20/month shared hosting solution could be a tremendous growth catalyst for Acquia, and the Drupal community as a whole.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I'm proud that years ago I speculated that Acquia would experience strong growth. What has taken place since then is beyond my wildest expectations. Acquia runs a tight ship with excellent support and technical expertise.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Internationalization. Workflow Process Management. Contextual targeting. Automated SEO. RSS aggregation.

"A decent provider, but may get a little pricey."

What do you like best?

If you are looking to host a Drupal websites, these would be the go-to guys. The founder is Dries, the founder of Drupal, so you can't go wrong. They are experts in their field and have a long list of clients to back that up.

What do you dislike?

The price - they seem to be better for enterprise companies and websites that have large revenue. Their services are good, but the pricing is too high for most companies to afford.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Hosting Drupal can be expensive, since Drupal is a very heavy system with lots of database queries and requires a lot of caching. However, the benefits of having a PaaS (Platform as a Service) like Acquia helps alleviate that problem.

"Reference company for Drupal"

What do you like best?

Acquia is the reference in the Drupal world, but not just because they have earned that status quo. They are one of the most active companies in the world in what respects to Drupal / Open Source contributions.

What do you dislike?

Probably that their services are normally quite expensive, so only big companies or enterprise projects can afford them.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

"Would recommend to all!"

What do you like best?

Acquia provides an excellent product and excellent customer service. While speaking on the phone the other day with a consult, I felt as though I was being listened to and all of my needs were attended to. While constructing my website, I have formed a tight business relationship with my associate and it feels like the entire acquia team was on my side. It was nice to be able to sit back and avoid frustration while my brilliant consult kept the project going.

What do you dislike?

I wish the company was larger because I feel as though there are too little acquia workers, and a large line of customers. The lack of employees can be limiting to my website as I imagine it is hard for the small amount that there is to properly complete each job they are assigned.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Trust that what you ask for will be what you get. At first, it may be scary to give your website to a consult and hope for the best, but you are in great hands. The consultants, at least the one I experienced was patient, kind, and a real problem solver. There may be bumps along the road but that should be expected. However, I highly recommend this platform for first time website builders to get your business out there!

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I've been experiencing problems with my website but once I contacted Acquia, we were able to find and eliminate the source. Afterwards, I had no further issues with my site and am receiving more traffic than ever, which as you may assume, benefits my business immensely.

"Acquia Hosting: top notch, Drupal specific hosting and support"

What do you like best?

Acquia's hosting is focused on Drupal. I've hosted a Drupal 6 site with them and indeed they provided great features related to Drupal hosting. It also feels great knowing that our hosting/support fees went toward funding a company that is so involved in improving Drupal. When we got the attention of the right person, their support was topnotch with expert answers that helped keep our site working well.

What do you dislike?

The SLA in our contract might be typical of other managed hosting companies, but ended up not giving us very much value when we did experience downtime. In fairness, I believe most or all of the downtime we experienced was not Acquia's fault and instead was on their underlying server provider (AWS).

It was often hard to tell whether the support team was really working on our issues. The SLA around support was particularly not great. It seemed like the support team was overworked.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Every website needs hosting. Acquia adds more value with a dedicated, knowledgeable support staff and Drupal-focussed tools to help make it easier/better to host with them. They were actually cheaper, cost-wise, compared to the dedicated hosting and support that the site previously had with a non-Drupal vendor AND Acquia's Drupal-oriented-support team obviously provided better support than the non-Drupal vendor.

"It's a good tool to use if you plan on having a large number of user accounts and activity."

What do you like best?

I like that it's a CMS geared towards handling multiple users and different types of user accounts. I've worked with a client that had multiple types of users with different levels of access. The plan was to build a web app that allowed online learning so to accommodate users that teach, learn, observe, and much more was a challenge.

What do you dislike?

It could be more intuitive. I worked with a more experienced developer and my only previous experience at the time was Drupal 6 and Wordpress. It became a bit of a challenge when working in Acquia.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

With Acquia I think the best benefit is its ability to handle the capacity of information and flow of user traffic. We had multiple developers working on this one project from different locations with separate local staging areas and to see it come together and flow from one page to another was nice. We made several iterations which required at least 2 day to backup and load onto the main staging area before it could be reviewed internally for testing.
