When I evaluated Adyen for its use within our startup, a few years ago, they were a competent payments solution with little to none competition in the EU ecosystem, due to features and services that were, at the time, unique amongst others. Now those features are commodities though.
Their customer and pre-sales support were, to say the least, non existent. Maybe our expected volume was not high enough for them to be interesting. Unfortunately I never knew. We never got to finish the on boarding process and we stopped receiving answers to our emails with no previous notice, even after we invested quite a good time in the technical integration in advance.
They would have solved our online payments needs and I believe they perfectly could have.
There are plenty of payment providers integrated in. I really liked the way I could setup additional payments methods easily.
Those days we had to support about 12 countries and what was the most irritating - the impossibility to reuse skins between those 12 merchants accounts. Also the skin itself could not be easily internationalized on the assets level i.e. different images for different languages.
