"Great product - amazing it is not even more widely known"

What do you like best?

Appcues allows you to deploy in-application marketing to your users without touching code. It makes doing in-application marketing (often the most effective) as easy as lifecycle email marketing.

We started using Appcues because we were actively looking to build in-application marketing messages ourselves, our VP of Engineering convinced us to search for a vendor that could do this "off the shelf" rather than building a custom solution.

We found Appcues, thank god: it has saved us weeks if not months of engineering time. Appcues integrated with our Segment installation giving us unrivalled targeting data, it is almost absurd how many dimensions you can target from within Appcues.

What do you dislike?

I wish there were more design patterns - I would love to inject Appcues content natively within the webpage, rather than in a modal.

I think the reporting (big investment area in 2017 and 2018) is a little light. We use Heap and SQL to do most of the analysis, and that works ok: but I'd love more functionality such as conversion goal tracking: worth noting that this feature came into Beta in December 2017, and will update my review as we test it - but looks great so far.

"Appcues powers up all your experimentation"

What do you like best?

Super easy to use. It is primarily used by users with no technical background that feel really empowered by delivering meaningful experiments in our user experience without having to depend on Engineering.

The integration with Segment allows us to power up extremely detailed experiments (i.e. show this message only to users that have done A but not B, whose account has spend more than C and that are using the dashboard in language D).

In the last year they have added a lot of options to simplify the customization and styling of modals, which usually required some coordination client side.

What do you dislike?

Nothing. I like that it is extremely focused on solving just one problem and doing it right, instead of trying to become a Frankenstein product that solves for everything (like other personalization products).

The integration is really easy. I would recommend anyone considering it to just take it for a spin.

We added Appcues to our mix around 2 years ago. At that point I think we were one of their earliest customers.

We have a multi-app user dashboard, where the vast majority of users are totally self-service and with a wide range of knowledge about both the platform and the industry.

We are also a fast moving team, where at any given time you could have a good number of small and large sized experiments running

Appcues is a really easy way of consistently deploying navigation and conversion experiments without having to block Engineering resources.

We have used Appcues for a wild variety of use cases and it always delivers.

"Good product headed toward great"

What do you like best?

It is relatively easy to use and allows us non-programmers the ability to put up announcements and product walk throughs quickly and easily.

We have added our own targeting criteria which is really powerful for us. So we can target users based on their usage so far of our product and show them the very next step they should take. This allows us to be very specific with our instruction.

What do you dislike?

When you target something on one URL (Like your demo or developer site) and then push it live to another URL the editing capability always launches on the URL you built the flow on. If a flow is only showing on one URL then the editing should launch on that URL.

I have had to have a UI designer from my company help me with the "look and feel". I have had trouble with some of their built-in tools to control the borders around my tool tips.

Their tool uses a browser extension to place and create tool tips and modals. This has taken some getting used to for sure. When I hit the "Shift" button to use controls on my web page it opens in a new browser instead of the one I'm in making it very hard to edit flows sometimes. Sometimes I just have to back all the way out and go back in. This relates to the URLs, I believe.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Onboarding users that sign-up for a free trial of our service. We have seen an increase in the usage of our product since using AppCues but we have made other changes that may have caused that increase. But this functionality is considered "table stakes" for us meaning we just have to have it.

"Continually improving, great asset for marketers"

What do you like best?

Appcues gives me the ability to message to our users without having to fit into an engineering sprint cycle. It's been an invaluable tool for the Marketing team to reach customers with important updates about events, the product, and new content.

What do you dislike?

While it's getting better, the product is not super intuitive. Reporting requires some handholding and toggling between sections takes too many steps. Luckily, their support has been top notch to help overcome some of the UI issues.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We launched our NPS survey in-app with Appcues and tripled the number of responses in half the amount of time. Appcues is working on refining this NPS product and does an excellent job facilitating and implementing customer feedback. We're beginning to use Appcues directions in areas of our product that often result in support tickets but haven't done enough testing to see the impact of that.

"Appcues is a no-brainer!"

What do you like best?

Appcues provides us with a low-cost, low-energy solution for reaching our brand new customers. It's inexpensive, simple to set up and SUPER effective. Once our modal was ready to publish, it only took one of our developers about 7 minutes to link it to our system and set it live.

What do you dislike?

There are few things that I dislike about Appcues, but sometimes it can be tricky to get a modal to look exactly the way that you want it to. For example, I find that there are very few font sizes and styles to work with. So if you're using an image of your product in the modal, you may not be able to match the Appcues font to your product font.

"Easy Onboarding, announcements and in app help"

What do you like best?

Appcues is a breeze. From the easy way to install and get ready; to its UI, UX, documentation, customer support, and integrations. Appcues Is very intuitive with a really good visual approach. The hubspot integration is a killer feature that lets you round up the user experience in your own app.

What do you dislike?

Appcues is an almost a perfect 10 tool. I'm waiting/hoping to see a set of features, and given the way this tool is growing, i'm pretty sure those features/improvements/integrations will happen soon.

Integrate Appcues right now to your app/web app, forget about coding and start creating a better customer experience in a visually pleasant way.

"Changing how we provide support"

What do you like best?

We are really liking how we can create customized walk through for our clients to send in a live chat or email that takes them through a step by step process. It's also changing our Knowledge Base to have those walk through links available for anyone looking for help.

What do you dislike?

There are some section of our site that don't easily allow an embedded flow.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We've completely revamped our new user onboarding, and Appcues allows us to better track A/B testing and completion rates. For my team, we are focused on making the training and support of our product easier for our clients.

"A fantastic product for promoting new functionality and in-context training."

What do you like best?

We put in less than 1 day of dev effort and now have a tool that training, onboarding, product management and marketing can use to do their jobs. By communicating with customers and coaching them from within the product, we've seen growth in feature usage, survey responses and views on product release announcements.

What do you dislike?

Analytics could be better. There are a lot of integration options but I'd love a dashboard so I didn't have to rely on external analytics packages.

Recommendations to others considering the product

The effort is so low but the ROI can be massive. Just devote the 1/2 day for implementation and try it. You will not be disappointed.

"Awesome In Product Guidance"

What do you like best?

Appcues is super easy to use, once you get past a small ramp up time. We're able to relaly walk our customers through the system to provide on-point guidance and reduce support load.

What do you dislike?

There's a bit of a ramp-up as you learn their system and how it works, but once you have that down you're all set.

It's honestly really great and easy to use.

We're doing a ton with it. Guiding new customers, telling users about new features, sending surveys, NPS surveys, tips and tricks on product usage. Really great stuff.

"Flexible tool for onboarding, but still a little rough around the edges"

What do you like best?

The main benefit of Appcues is its flexibility. You can embed custom code into tooltips to change their appearance, run scripts, embed an iframe, or insert buttons that do custom actions.

What do you dislike?

Frequent bugs when building flows requiring a refresh. Lots of cool stuff you can do but it often requires time from developers to implement properly. Anyone running ad blockers won't see Appcues flows at all. There seems to be a significant delay between steps, both when previewing flows and when seeing them as an end user.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Our aim was to reduce dev time required for user onboarding, and increase speed of iteration with user onboarding. This has been mostly realized, but it's time consuming and frustrating to edit flows and isn't an ideal long-term solution.

"Support is lacking"

What do you like best?

User interface is straight forward and clean.

What do you dislike?

I have been going back and forth with support for over a week with no resolution to the dynamic URL error their system seems to have. Support takes over 24 hrs to respond and when they finally respond, they do not provide a solution to the issue we are having. There is no phone number to call nor chat to help get you set up. At this point I am extremely frustrated by the lack of communication, had they just told me a week ago that their system could not meet my needs I would have been satisfied and saved a ton of time.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Customer support during the set up process should be made more available. It is extremely frustrating to spend hours setting something up to have support not available to help answer seemingly easy questions.

I am looking for a program that can help me successfully onboard new customers.

"AppCues is a great and affordable tool for bootstrapped start-ups like ours! "

What do you like best?

The product is plug and play - it works well right out of the box. For more complicated occasions which require a little creative massaging, the AppCues team is reactive, helpful and amazing. They really care about helping you meet your goals. We're a bootstrapped start up and couldn't afford the competition (which is more than double the cost). I'm glad we wound up partnering with AppCues.

What do you dislike?

Nothing yet. We had a few issues getting set up, but 90% of those issues were due to our product's dev, and technical debt. The AppCues team was helpful in guiding us forward and as soon as Appcues had glitches (nothing major) they were fixed immediately.

We have data and statistics proving that our AppCues initiatives are driving behaviors in our trial users which lead to conversion. We're also able to speak to different people in different ways. Our product is available in 4 languages, and AppCues allows us to create culturally appropriate experiences for everyone and the targeting allows us to reach the right users with the right message.

"Guide Them With Simplicity"

What do you like best?

Appcues has a user friendly interface that makes it easy to learn how to use the product. They also offer pretty robust help documentation.

What do you dislike?

There could be more granularity to the control of the campains. It wold be great if users had the option to turn the guides on and off.

Consider your options. They offer trials so you can try it and see if it's a good fit for your needs.

"Author contextual help in-context? Yes please."

What do you like best?

AppCues is brilliant for a few reasons:

• It's a really straightforward and simple to use app

• You author your contextual help or info in the context of the app itself

• It's flexible in terms of styling and placement and flow, but not overly complicated

• You can quickly iterate on your flows without having to update your app

What do you dislike?

It's hard to find things to gripe about.

We're using this for notifications in our web-based app, mostly around new features, helper tips and soliciting user feedback. The beauty of this is that our product team can quickly and easily create flows in Appcues and make them live without needing to release new code to our environments. The ability to segment and target users is also really useful.

"Nimble Plug and Play Tool"

What do you like best?

Appcues is great for organizations that are ready to start using in-app messaging for the first time. There are other tools out there with more bells and whistles, but in my experience those tools are more cumbersome and certainly more expensive. Appcues is a great value at the price point. I've been impressed with the flexibility of the tool - if you can dream it you can do it. Lastly, I want to add that the product enhancements that have come out over the past year have been excellent. It's clear that the company listens closely to users and incorporates that feedback into their product roadmap.

What do you dislike?

Some of the filtering functionality is not as mature as I'd like to see.

We wanted to communicate more directly with our clients, to make them aware of new features and educate them on best practices.

"Incredibly easy to set up and useful for non-technical PM to test user onboarding "

What do you like best?

The ability to quickly create flows and test them have been super useful. The pre-loaded templates to help us think about onboarding our users, survey functionality to run NPS, and beautiful designs make using App cues a no-brainer. It saves us tons of dev resources to focus on revenue-generating features.

What do you dislike?

The team is working on this, but better user level analytics would be nice to have.

"Great addition to any website & marketing stack"

What do you like best?

That you don't have to necessarily be a "dev wiz" to create unique and impactful on-boarding processes that can have a major impact on adoption and conversion.

What do you dislike?

In the beginning it may seem a little overwhelming. Would recommend reading thorough their help topics and speaking with their support staff if you get lost.

It can be used in compliment with other software you use for on-boarding or A/B testing like Optimizly.

"Great Product but Beware of Price Hikes"

What do you like best?

Appcues is a great product and provides a great user interface. This is great for having videos display throughout the software as users navigate through and learn various parts of the system.

What do you dislike?

Beware of pricing hikes. They sent an email announcement an almost 300% increase from $129/mo to $299/mo. I get pricing adjustments but this is unreal and just seems plain shady.

Don't build yourself into a corner and then have a price hike happen.

"Slick interface, easy to get up and running"

What do you like best?

Easy to get going. Has a slick interface which lets you quickly setup flows and journeys. You can start with a Chrome extension even before you have the code live on the site. You can use Google Tag Manager to implement the code quickly.

What do you dislike?

It has more trouble with single page apps as far as building the flow. Also takes a bit more work to integrate, though that's not necessarily the fault of Appcues. Pricing gets quick expensive as you scale up though so more for business type applications vs. consumer.

Test the free trials across a bunch of onboarding tools and see which best suits your needs from a cost/features perspective.

"Super easy to use, very human element"

What do you like best?

Appcues allows you to create a super simple, clear, and personable onboarding experience within your app. I love that it's easy to use, and can lend your company's voice to someone's first time on your site.

What do you dislike?

There are some parts where you might need some developer help, but for the most part you're good to go as a marketer, right off the bat.

Onboarding customers is a lot easier and more personable. CTAs are much more clear when a user has to take steps, since you can highlight the direction you'd like your user to take.

"Flexible In-app Experience Tool"

What do you like best?

Once implemented via segment, I can handle the entire process of creating, publishing, and reporting on different in-app experiences from onboarding tutorials, upsell campaigns, or as a channel for user feedback.

The free Appcues/HubSpot integration! With this, you can message and track exactly which users have seen which experiences directly from HubSpot. You can also create and track user experience inside of your software product.
