My Surgery Center is affilated with a medical group. It is great that we can get the scheduling info, patient demographic info and clinical info directly from the Athena system. This insures accuracy and availabilty of inromation.
Athena is not user friendly for Surgery Centers. They sold me on the system with the promise that 2017 would be the "year of the surgery centers" with enhancements and focus groups for users to help improve the produce. This never happened.
Great for doctors offices, I would be cautious about recommending it for a Surgery Center unless it was a single specialty center connected to a single physician.
They system makes it very easy to verify insurances. We get the schedule, demographics and clinical data directly from our doctors offices and saves faxing and dealing with inaccurate data.
I do enjoy all the accelerator options including macros, order sets, and encounter plans.
The accelerators take a while to set up. I wish I could make an encounter plan from the patients chart.
Give it a try. As long as you are willing to do the initial time investment there certainly are possibilities for financial and time savings.
This helps us take less time documenting and leaves us more time to care for our patients. I enjoy the Athena capture as it allows us to take pictures of wounds for all providers to gauge improvements.
easy interface, allowed to work in multiples screens at once.
tends to have technical difficulties about once a month
more updates and webinars
able to chat instantly with coworkers
patients are able to communicate directly with providers through the patient portal
scheduling/rescheduling is very easy
Very user friendly and chronologically appropriate for the patient care experience. Easy to navigate and jump back and forth between EMR sections.
Our organization has had frequent issues with Athena crashing, which has been frustrating especially during patient care. It can lag pretty frequently as well which makes it difficult for productivity.
Better patient care experience and faster visits for the patient due to easier navigation through the EMR
Athena shows promise but still a lot to learn
Not the most intuitive in clinical practice but ok for the non clinician
Billing seems to be easier
Cloud based EHR allows for patient records to be accessed across multiple clinical sites
Can send secure messages to co-ordiating providers
Occasional technical issues/being down which greatly slows patient care
Athena is a great EHR especially for group practices/ FQHCs/ clinics with multiple sites
Patient scheduling, charting and referrals all in one place
able to access from anywhere with secure login
