"Powerful, Simple Audio Editor"

What do you like best?

Audacity, the free audio editing program, makes it easy to alter audio files to fill a specific time slot.

What do you dislike?

Given the price, it's tough to say anything bad about Audacity.

Recommendations to others considering the product

This software does not come with a manual per se, though it has a good help system. The online support is excellent, and a number of YouTube videos are available to get you up to speed in a hurry.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Audacity has greatly simplified the editing and preparation of audio files for commercial spots. It's very easy to remove background noises, to edit out coughs and errors, and to combine multiple files into a final mix. The best feature, though, is Audacity's ability to stretch or shrink a file to precisely fit a time slot, such as 30 seconds, even if the original is quite a bit shorter or longer, without changing the pitch.

Audacity is easy to install, to set up, and to use, and offer many processing options such as the addition of sound effects, with more optional plugins appearing frequently. These, like Audacity itself, are easy to obtain, install and use.

Audacity's results in technical terms are on a par with all but the most costly audio editors, and may equal or exceed them in some of the most critical areas. In any case, the results, using any properly equipped computer, are broadcast quality. Ease of use and pricing propel Audacity to the top.

"Makes any presentation BETTER"

What do you like best?

What I like best about Audacity is that you can import your own audio or you can record right on the application. Also, you're able to tweak your tracks and mix new tracks. It is so easy to use. I use it every time I have a presentation that is recorded and not live.

What do you dislike?

There are a lot of functions to Audacity. But it would be great if those functions actually told you to want they did. If you're not well versed in any audio software it could be very imposing. The interface for the application hasn't changed in a very long time. I would suggest that it has an update. I would recommend implementing a few tutorials for those that aren't as experienced,

Recommendations to others considering the product

Like I said before, it would be in your best interest to update the interface. This way the application is a bit more fluid and not so imposing. I would also implement a tutorial for those that are well versed in audio editing software. Surprisingly enough, not a lot of my colleagues have heard of audacity before I introduced them to it. If Audacity has lost it fanbase, this would be the excellent opportunity to reinvent and re-introduce itself.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

This software takes any recording from mediocre and ordinary to EXTRAORDINARY. Displaying a presentation just with your own voice can be extremely boring. So I am and my team use audacity to make it more interesting and we use it also as an editing too so we can record a few times and simply edit out the mistakes.

What Audio Editing solution do you use?

Thanks for letting us know!

"Audacity is easy to use, excellent way to edit and retouch audio files. "

What do you like best?

The best of the software is that it is easy to use immediately with the more complex side of things to learn later, the editing is incredibly simple with several tracks and the ability to zoom in or out at almost any level, a wide variety of effects Audio and transitions can help you improve your audio project, In addition, you can export to a midi file, manipulate multiple tracks in the same project, apply effects such as noise reduction, fade and echo.

What do you dislike?

I would like to mention that certain files that correspond to the use of Audacity tend to be a bit heavy occupying a good part of your memory. But in general it is a good program, it has been very useful for me.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It is an excellent program, easy to use and it is free recommended to the whole community.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It is an excellent program for a small company like ours, it is also free to us a lot in the edition of audios, We can save files in various types of files so that they can be used in different types of media or imported to other projects.

"We All Started Out With Audacity!!"

What do you like best?

My first experience with Audacity was actually High School. It was one of the few programs installed on the computers at my school. After learning how to use the program, I downloaded it on my home computer and I still have it installed and I use it even today!

What can I say? Just select the recording device you want to use and simply record! The built in editing features and effects are of high quality and the available audio formats to export to are great! From the simple MP3 to even the high end FLAC format, Audacity does it all!

What do you dislike?

No dislikes! Audacity is the best free audio recorder and editor!

Recommendations to others considering the product

It's a free useful recording software. Download it!

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

When I need to record something quick whether it be to send to a customer or to upload to social media or YouTube, I can do it with a click of a button on Audacity!

"The starter pack of the audio edition"

What do you like best?

Audacity is an extremely useful tool, a bit basic compared to other editing suites, but it offers what is necessary to simplify the audio editing process, and the best? It is an open source program. The interface is simple but it shows the basic controls, and although it requires the user to have some previous experience, it’s not so complicated to work with it.

What do you dislike?

The basic options are easy to understand, there is a certain weakness in the effects menu, because it shows all the effects directly, and this can be a bit confusing for users, because they require some additional help or guidance; Besides that, once you start using it, you discover that exporting formats such as mp3 requires downloading additional libraries, which makes the work a bit tedious, because the instructions are not very clear.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you are a Rookie in the matter of the edition, I recommend a little previous reading for the use of the program, in order to identify controls more quickly, the design of it is conservative but quite useful. In my experience, I recommend testing the plugins one by one, test projects are an excellent option, in this way you guarantee a correct understanding of their operation, and adapt your work style to the program.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I currently use Audacity as part of my Audio edit tools, to assemble the audio of a video tutorial, thanks to this I have been able to give effective training, it is simple and doesn’t consume many computer resources, which makes the results excellent.

"Audacity is a necessity, but has its challenges"

What do you like best?

Audacity plays every type of audio file I work with (in music recording) and is absolutely a necessary tool to have. Really like visual envelope display - which can be used to locate audio segments if you don't have timing data available.

What do you dislike?

Hard to set playback volume. Hard to set playhead position from keyboard. Hard to set playback device. It would be cool if Audacity would play through the device I've chosen for system output, but instead it remembers the last device it played through and uses that. Must use a pulldown to select the device I want to use today. Playback volume seems independent of system volume - set using a slider. No way to use keyboard to go back and forth (scrubbing) playing audio. Have to click to set a playback position on visual display.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Really good as freeware goes. Much functionality. Way more than I ever use.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

This is the best free playback software I know of...with functionality you can't get from quicktime and default players.

"Una gran herramienta de manejo de voces y efectos de sonido"

What do you like best?

What do you dislike?

Recommendations to others considering the product

Yo siempre obtengo excelentes resultados utilizando Audacity y lo considero una herramienta esencial para mi trabajo, así que si tu trabajo incluye edición de audio o mezcla, lo recomiendo ampliamente.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Tomando en cuenta lo problemático y costoso que puede ser obtener un material de audio con excelente calidad, Audacity es la opción para poder obtener los mejores resultados apoyando así la exploración de la creatividad.

"Audio manage, mastering and sharing. All that you need."

What do you like best?

Audacity it's my tool to work my partners music. Im being using it since a while, its my first step in audio recording, we used to record all the work on audacity, give some edits there, and them move it to another software to mix it with the instrumentals.

But we spend a time on Audacity giving the best sound on voices and some instruments of course wich in this software could be very good to edit and have a nice results.

What do you dislike?

Im actually don't have any problem to report about the software, even it becomes better with the versions and its absolutely unexpensive. So in this case, i don't think in perfection, but works very good on his job.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Have the greatest results, doing your music work with this software, and discover its complete capacity, im sure you'll have no regrets.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We're being recording voices and doing some beats with Audacity since a long time and the results just turn great, nice edit features, a lot of effects ands plugins and even the posibility of remake completely a song and do a great mix.

"Provides a professional product for an amateur producer"

What do you like best?

I could use the GUI to find what I needed to do in spite of my own great ignorance of audio recording software. There were many audio editing filter features I would have liked to have known more about, but without easy documentation and any need for anything beyond basic editing I did not explore these features. However, I suspect I might have used some if I had known how they would benefit me.

What do you dislike?

I would have liked some basic, simple instructions on how to use the program, something like a Quickstart Guide. There is a lot of trial and error needed to see the effects of certain choices that affect quality. It would also be nice if there were some guidelines just to help make one's guesswork more accurate.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I remain amazed that such high quality software is available for free or for such low price. I don't recall what I paid for it, but it is worth many hundreds of dollars at least given the professional product that it enables you to create.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I was able to create a complete audio book by using Audacity to edit my audiofiles. I was able to craft sufficient audio quality and sufficiently small data footprint to meet the publisher's requirements. As a result of Audacity I was able to publish a full audiobook with little more effort than the time required to record it.

"For free programs, it has quite a few options and not a huge learning curve"

What do you like best?

I love how easy it is to use. I've paid for other similar programs but really like audacity because it's hard for me to become familiar with new programs. It also has some rudimentary filters and other things to clean up your tracks -- the more you familiarize yourself with the software, the better your tracks will sound.

What do you dislike?

As a free program, I'm always wishing there was a little more capability, but with audacity I still believe you get more than what you pay for. I prefer it a million times over to other programs like GarageBand.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It's a really great program for anyone looking to edit audio files without a huge learning curve, and is especially great for those on a budget.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It can be great for cleaning up audio tracks for spoken word for presentations, or it can be great for music, as well. It's really just a great program for adding to and editing any audio files you may need. I've used it to clean up my audio for professional presentations for my workplaces in the past.

"Great audio editing software available for free"

What do you like best?

This is an amazing software for doing audio editing, recording or re-encoding that is available for free. It has all the basic features you would look for and some more advanced ones, with my favorite one the option to reduce noise by taking a sample of the audio.

What do you dislike?

The biggest problem about Audacity is its interface, which is not intuitive and many features will remain hidden for most users. It also requires exploring the documentation to be aware what you can do with it, which could fixed with a cleaner interface. It is worth nothing you will need to download some codecs by separate, like the MP3 one.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Audacity can be good for basic tasks, and considering it is supported by a huge community and is free, it is worth to consider it using it. Sadly, several features will require checking for tutorials or the documentation as it could be confusing for newcomers.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I have been using Audacity to do certain tasks as cleaning recordings such as live conversations, audio from low-quality microphones or even to quickly encode files to another format. It is also great to record audio in overall.

"A nice open source audio editor "

What do you like best?

Open source software which has the emphasis that I like. Open to use (i.e. free) and community supported. Audacity has great features built in. And it brings powerful audio editing software to many who could not afford it other wise. It's great for bringing in audio from a live setting, fixing levels, clipping dead space & problems, and exporting a finished recording.

What do you dislike?

No built in MP3 encoder - there's reasons why it can't be and it's incredibly easy to install one, but it's another step for the end user. If you think MP3 encoding is baked in, you might be surprised.

Like much of open source software - you are your own tech support. You have to search for answers, post in public forums and await responses, etc. There isn't a tech support hot line waiting for your phone call.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Be aware what open source means - especially when it comes to support. It will take some time to find / received responses to any problems. READ DOCUMENTATION - especially for mp3 encoding.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Being able to clean up recordings of live conversations, classes, and lectures.

"Audacity, the powerful, free and open source audio recording and editing software."

What do you like best?

Audacity is extremely user friendly for basic tasks. Setup is as easy as ABC.

The editing features go from basic things, like cuts, to more meaningful features like noise reduction and and the file type conversion.

It is easily accessible to anyone and everyone, doesn't require high specs and is completely free and open source.

The ability to re-encode files and manipulate audio is also a nice touch and comes useful quite often when working with both short and long audio clips.

What do you dislike?

As a designer, the older looking interface kind of sets me off, it has a quite dated style and fell to it, but it is completely functional and straight to the point. A clean-up of the interface would be awesome but the current interface does not have any major downsides to it.

The learning curve for more advanced audio editing is quite steep and might be hard for new users and users with no previous knowledge in audio editing.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Give it a go. Read up on some of the documentation if you're really interested in using Audacity and its tools to their highest potential, research on audio editing will also help a lot when it comes to the learning curve of Audacity's features.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It's an amazing piece of software and to add onto that, it's completely free. It is worth your time, if you're really interested in implementing Audacity in your workflow, to read up on the documentation and make a bit of research behind the tools that Audacity offers to all its users, they can be quite useful in a wide range of situations and be a life saver in a pinch.

"Powerful, free audio suite that's virtually essential for acoustic analysis of linguistic data"

What do you like best?

Audacity is free and user-friendly, but also allows for outstandingly fine-grained tuning if you know what you're doing. We find this software invaluable for recording or re-encoding audio data for linguistic analysis. We're also able to manipulate audio files (e.g. by changing pitch) to present for perceptual studies. Audacity's algorithms really do an excellent job of manipulating only the selected variable and maintaining the integrity and crispness of the audio file.

What do you dislike?

Audacity has an older-looking interface that can make the large amount of options overwhelming sometimes, but it's free, so I've never really found this to be worth complaining about.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you want to use Audacity, it's worth investing time in the documentation and in the science behind audio recording and analysis in order to best make use of the powerful tools Audacity offers.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We use Audacity in the OSU linguistics lab to record audio through a USB pre-amplifier (the Focusrite Scarlett Solo), and to re-sample or re-encode audio data in other formats which many not be readable (or may be too big) for analysis software like Praat.

"RECORDING YOUR VOICE IS AS SIMPLE AS CLICKING RECORDING WITH AUDACITY"

What do you like best?

I´m amazed at how easy it´s to use Audacity. One of the things I do to earn a living is to make videos and adding voice to them, and an easy way to do this is by using Audacity. It´s amazing how easy it is to record my voice with audacity: basically I just need to have my PC microphone enabled and then, I just need to click the record button on Audacity´s panel: it´s really that simple. If I want to increase or decrease the sound level, I just have to adjust the volume and decibels on the left panel. I also like the fact that I can decrease my video´s background noise by only clicking on the option “DECREASE BACKGROUND NOISE”, which is on the upper panel, under edition. All this has made me choose Audacity as my favorite audio recording tool.

What do you dislike?

It´s very frustrating that, when my audio files are quite long, the software freezes at times and stops working: this means that I´ll have to wait a long time before I can resume my work. To my mind, this is a mistake that shouldn´t be occurring very often. Further, it´s very frustrating that the “pitch changer” option works wonderfully at times, but it sometimes it doesn´t work at all! All things considered, Audacity is a great tool to make professional voice recordings.

Recommendations to others considering the product

You people working at Audacity deserve kudos! Your software is amazing, and the best part is that it´s free! The only piece of advice I can give is this: never place annoying ads on your software because this really turns off users. Also, don´t ever start selling this software (I mean, don´t ever charge a dime for a license of Audacity) because it´s a little jewel that has been helping people like me since it was created. Thanks!

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Basically, Audacity solves all of my problems when it comes to recording audio: I record and deliver voice tasks in order to earn an extra monthly income, and I need reliable software that allows me to do this in a professional way. Audacity helps me get the job done as it´s super easy to use and the quality I can get from my recorded audios is extremely professional. It´s important to note out that the audio quality will also depend on how good is your recording device and audio card.

"Wonderful program - but you have to spend time learning it"

What do you like best?

I often have to record audio content for my business (E.g. sales recordings, audio greetings, audio training for new staff etc). In the past, I used to find it frustrating, but the Audacity software has made it very simple. For example, if I say the wrong word, I don’t have to speak everything again. I can just use the Audacity software to select the bit I don't like and cut it out. I can then paste-in the correct version. I can then run a special command to make sure the pasted-in version has the same pitch and tone as the original, making it impossible for any one to tell that the recording was edited.

Sometimes when making a recording, unwanted sounds can appear. For example, such as pops and hisses. With the Audacity software it just takes one click to remove these all using its extensive collection of filters. This saves time as it means I don’t have to keep on re-recording things. But it also ensures the finished audio product is of a high standard.

The Audacity software also has good batching tools. For example, I once received over twenty recordings that had irritating pauses in them. But with the Audacity software I could have all these pauses removed with just a few clicks. I didn’t even have to look for the pauses: the Audacity software did it all by itself and the final result was flawless.

In short, the Audacity software has helped me avoid wasting time on re-recordings and improve the quality of my outputs.

What do you dislike?

In my opinion, the biggest problem with the Audacity software is that it is not very intuitive. For example, I didn't uncover all the shortcuts and special features just by using the program. I had to go to YouTube and watch training videos to learn them. The Audacity software has lots of options and features and sometimes it can be hard to know which one to use, especially as many of the different features are very similar to each other. Then again, as it has so many features, I am not sure how they could make it more intuitive.

Recommendations to others considering the product

The Audacity software is free to use, so in my opinion, every business should give it a try. Some time will have to be spent watching training videos on YouTube to learn it fully, but it is worth the effort for the time it saves.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I use the Audacity software to record audio content for my business. Audacity has helped me save time by removing the need to do so many re-recordings. It has also improved the quality of my audio recordings to a professional level. I have also used it for batching purposes, to correct multiple bad files with just a few clicks.

"For a free piece of software, it sure packs a punch"

What do you like best?

Audacity is easy to use, and incredibly well-featured for being a free piece of software. I mainly use it for recording voice-over, but the amount of effects available are pretty impressive and easy to play around with. The interface is simple and clean, and you don't have to be an engineer to understand the ins and outs of it.

What do you dislike?

It feels and looks slightly dated, and the keyboard controls feel a little strange coming from other applications.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you work with audio at all and don't want to pony up for one of the pro applications, this will work for you like a charm.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The main benefit is the cost, which is nothing. It sounds great if you hook good hardware up to it, and produces professional results on a tight budget.

"Audacity is the best way to easily edit and touch up audio files"

What do you like best?

The best feature of Audacity is that I can cut, edit and touch up my work audio files in a short time. As a voice over artist, I sometimes get a bit of popping at the end of each recording, and the best way to get rid of this issue is by using the Audacity cut and erase tool: I simply have to give a few clicks on the options panel and the recording area, and the popping issue is gone. I also like the fact that I can make sound my voice more masculine or feminine by simply clicking on the "effects" option and selecting more or less bass / treble intensity.

What do you dislike?

At times, the software stops recognizing my audio recording interface; this issue makes my work a little bit harder and a bit more painful. The good thing is that I experience this problem very rarely. Also, it can take a bit of time to become proficient with the software.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I don´t think I have a recommendation for Audacity, as it´s a very complete piece of software, easy to use and free! The only thing I have to say for you is "congratulations".

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Audacity is a professional recording software, and the most important business benefit I get from it is that it saves me A LOT OF TIME, as I only have to click on the recording button, start recording, and that´s it, my audio files are ready. Also, Audacity allows me to deliver a professional audio work all the time, as it has all the right tools so that you can edit and touch up your audio work in a professional way.

"Audacity for quick simple audio editing"

What do you like best?

Best software so far for simple, quick, basic audio editing. It has a lot of built in effects, like change pitch, increase or decrease volume, fade in and fade out.. which you can adjust how many seconds or minutes you want the fade to last. I would highly recommend it for podcasters! You can save it as an MP3 or WAV file.

What do you dislike?

Not so great for multi-tracking. Its a bit harder to navigate with more than one track. I highly recommend using a specialized microphone, like a USB Mic. For better audio quality, do not use just your built in webcam microphone. Every sound is picked up from the webcam mic, including your breathing.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Must have for a free quick audio editing job!

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I am using Audacity to record my own simple, one track recordings. Its great and simple. i have been using this software for years now. It has many effects, including pitch change and volume increase or decrease of each track . I use this to record myself drumming and chanting to learn new songs for dance class

What do you dislike?

"The audacity of Audacity"

What do you like best?

The best feature in audacity is its ability to clip and edit upon record. This function for sure makes it easy to capture a snippet of sound from a recording.

What do you dislike?

The worst function in audacity is the analyze plugin features. These require the right sound clip to render the best result. If you mix 2 tracks that don't mesh then analyze plug in feature will not capture the best quality result.

Recommendations to others considering the product

This is not a software for the beginner user, its more for the intermediate user that understands sound channels and how mixing these sounds to render a product that is quality enough for the end user.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Audacity is great for capturing webinar audio on my desktop and allows me to pull clips from that audio to train my staff accordingly.

"Fantastic, easy tool for retouching audio files"

What do you like best?

I like that it is incredibly easy and straightforward to do simple edits of audio files including clipping, volume control and fade outs. Audacity is very user-friendly and intuitive and it is easy to quickly make the changes I need in all kinds of audio files. The program opens quickly and doesn't take up much space and tasks are completed quickly and easily.

What do you dislike?

I use Audacity for simple, straightforward tasks and, as such, there is nothing I dislike about it. It is very useful to me. And you can't beat free!

Recommendations to others considering the product

Very easy, straightforward tool for editing audio files for personal use or business. It is free and very simple to use and also quite intuitive.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I am able to quickly edit audio files of music and voice (interviews, etc) to include in promotional videos for our businesses. I am also to edit our music files to include blocks of silence, for example, or to fade in or out. Audacity made it possible for me to create a weekly Q&A program with a musical intro and outro as well as the interview without having to purchase a program to do it with. I upload and edit all the audio files in Audacity first and then simply plug them in to my video editing software later.

"edit your music easily."

What do you like best?

To begin, I must say that audacity is a software of simple use with a quite attractive environment, which does not require spending a large amount of time to be able to do a good job.

another quality, is that it has several effects incorporated (echo, reverberance, distortion, and many others) and you can even add others by means of pluggins.

You can import audio files of almost any type (only with flac I have had problems) and then export in the format you want and the quality you like.

What do you dislike?

In general I think it's pretty good for casual use or user level. I think the only drawback I have had with .flac files.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I think it is a very program to do and perform simple editing tasks (delete parts that you do not like, eliminate silences, join songs, add some effects), but if you want to do more complex things like make up music files, match volume and other things of that type I think it's better to use some more powerful and dedicated program.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I have been able to edit several audio files that I have used as a musical background in presentations and animated tutorial videos, and in general it has worked quite well for me.

"Great audio editing for the professional or the novice"

What do you like best?

The ease of use with audacity is the best thing. I've done audio editing for years and when I need a simple, free, and quick solution for a podcast I was working on, Audacity fit the bill. It has its limitations if you know how to edit audio, but if you're new to it, it's perfect.

What do you dislike?

It has a lack of intuitiveness and hotkeys. I use video and photo editing software daily and am use to hotkeys and platforms designed for quickness. Audacity is lacking this. The hotkeys make no sense and it could use a GUI overhaul.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Simple and easy to use. Great for podcasters and others who may need simple audio edits on a budget.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Adding intros and editing bits out o different podcast.

"Audacity is perfection, in every function."

What do you like best?

Audacity is a tool that practically has the necessary functions to carry a much more valid audio edition, in my first experience, I noticed at first glance, that the functions that it has are very easy to use, making the audio editing much easier , combine some audios, it also becomes easy on this platform. All its functions are very well organized and this allows a more solidary use.

What do you dislike?

The interface is very beautiful, since it is very well organized, each function is in the right place and this gives a better accessibility, however, I would like to improve the design it has, the colors it uses, since this has a great influence in making decisions.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Audacity is totally free, and its functions are the easiest you will find, nor will you get bored using it, since the main factor for which Audacity is one of the best, is because it entertains the user, with increasingly intuitive functions.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Audacity is perfect for a company that needs to modify different audios, it also works for some stations, that really need a facility to shape each audio, since it provides comfort, and a series of functions to improve the quality of the audio, which is heard better and also offering a possibility to edit it.

"Editable audios wherever you are."

What do you like best?

The truth is that Audacity is a tool that provides the necessary details for a good edition, either video or audio. Also, the variety of features offered to users is inconceivable, since you can add various editions that make better audio, improve it in a certain auditory sense, and even improve some things in a video. Audacity has the necessary tools to achieve an excellent result, a moving result wherever you go.

What do you dislike?

I have noticed, that the interface that Audacity has, is a very old interface, and even the colors and shapes that they use in their platform are a little outdated, they have a lot of time there. I would like to change the design, it is renewed completely by providing current forms, with colors that are really eye-catching and fun.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Audacity is a platform at a very low price, and I encourage you to try it, at any time you will love the great features it has and when you see the fantastic audio results you can achieve with this platform.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I believe that this application is perfect for both small and medium-sized companies, since it gives the user an almost free way to access a perfect edition of an audio. So if you are looking for a platform that will help you to renew an audio and do it better, at a very low price, audacity is the best option without a doubt.

"excellent audio editor I love"

What do you like best?

Audacity is a great tool, i love the ease of how to insert and edit audio files. It makes it so easy to edit and rework a piece of music that needs changes, the wide variety of file formats that can be created with this program is amazing, as are the extremely detailed and frequently updated online tutorial help guides. Audacity has many more features, some of which I just played. I like that Audacity is not filled with advertisements, annoying donation requests or spurious hidden software installations and trackers.

What do you dislike?

While the user interface is easy to use, I seem to need an interface update it seems very old, I would like it to have a more minimalist approach, besides some options are very hidden should improve that.

Recommendations to others considering the product

it is worth trying audacity is free and also is easy to use, if you do not like it you will not have lost much time, but if you liked it truthfully it is a great audio editor.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Audacity is perfect for the lowest budget company that only needs to adjust its video sound quickly or make a medium size audio recording. If you do not have a studio, you do not have to worry about Audacity being able to get an impeccable sound.

"Excellent sound editing software"

What do you like best?

You are able to zoom each individual audio file in and cut/paste exactly the split-second that you want. Audacity is very user-friendly, having a simple interface compared to other audio software that is available.

What do you dislike?

It would be nice to have a split-screen function so that you are able to work on multiple audio files at once.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Audacity is a simple software that I often find myself using for multiple projects. The ease of use makes this one of my go to programs for any audio editing that I do. Simply put: this is a well designed, simple to use audio-editing software that will get the job done for whatever you need.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Gives me great audio-editing software for a great price! I'm able to make almost anything that I want with a professional sound at little to no cost.

"the online version freezes while uploading large audio files"

What do you like best?

For over two years I have been using it for my phonology projects and I even cited the software in two papers as an indication of my "love" for this software. It is very popular in linguistics research arena and many psycholinguistics labs have the licenses on desktop computers.

What do you dislike?

When I use the online version provided by my university, I have large conversation audio files, and the screen just freezes when I try to upload them. It happens a lot of times after like a 5-minute waiting.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you are using the online version, just make sure that you upload your files with a fast connection not to be frustrated after it.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It gives a very detailed analysis and second-by-second annotation. I just like it for locating special sounds of various local languages, and it has worked very well for me so far for publication purposes.

"Audacity great for worship leaders"

What do you like best?

Audacity is free to download and super easy to use. The things I use it for (pitch changing and tempo changing) are very easy to use. I just need to know what key it starts in and there is flexibility of changing a key to any major key I need the song to be in. Or if I need the song to be a bit faster or slower, I can also play with the tempo and I will have great success.

What do you dislike?

The need to download an MP3 functionality seems to be overkill. MP3 functionality should be included in the future updates of main Audacity program. Also the appearance could be a bit better for aesthetics . Other than that, the program is great and there is nothing wrong with it.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Audacity is doing great things, allowing an audio editing software to be free for use with churches and other industries that may need a audio editing software but cannot initially afford the software.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I am able to use this program to change the key of a worship song for a worship leader or the worship team. Or if I want to put two similar songs together, I can cut and paste what I need to work together, export the finished product and send it out to my team for rehearsal purposes. Such at tool for worship leaders, worship pastors and others working in worship roles at church.

"Amazing Music Software!"

What do you like best?

Audacity is a great tool that enables me to better my music classroom for students. I love the ease of how inserting and editing audio files is. It makes it so easy to edit and rework a piece of music that needs changes. It is great for transposition, which is a big deal in a middle school setting. Not every student is able to sing original keys of songs.

What do you dislike?

Overall, I can honestly say that there is next to nothing that I dislike about this software. It is absolutely amazing, and has made my life 10 times easier! The only concern I have is when the software chooses to crash on me.

Recommendations to others considering the product

This software is a great tool for editing already existing sound files. Need to change keys? This is your program!

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The benefits of this program are almost too numerous to name; however, I believe that the instant transposition is probably by far the best resource the program offers. The program itself is free, which makes it one hundred times more convenient than a lot of software programs out there. I was first introduced to it in my college courses, and it was a great tool for creating projects. I loved it so much I decided to carry it into my classroom.

"Free and easy-- but POWERFUL"

What do you like best?

Audacity is a free Digital Audio Workstation that is capable of easily accomplishing basic audio recording/editing functions but has the ability to be used for so much more. The massive variety of file formats which are able to be created with this program is astounding, as is the extremely detailed and frequently updated online help/tutorial guides.

What do you dislike?

It can feel a little clunky to use if you are used to a professional DAW such as Pro Tools. Joining two clips and creating crossfades between them can be a little cumbersome, particularly for inexperienced users. Overall, however, there is enough documentation online to help you accomplish any task.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Be sure to read through at least some of the online help manuals. The level of thoroughness is amazing, and you are likely to discover some features you didn't even know existed.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Our department receives many requests to teach workshops on basic and intermediate audio recording and editing. Audacity is the program of choice for these workshops-- free and accessible to everyone, yet powerful enough to be used in nearly any editing situation.

"One of the best free utilities out there"

What do you like best?

An amazingly stable and capable editor given the price tag. It has never crashed on me, and applying changes to files is fast. There are definitely more feature rich product options for those needing advanced editing, but entry costs for studio quality software is typically high.

What do you dislike?

The interface is a little dated at this point since it has not changed in a very long time. This is actually a bonus in terms of usability, but the GUI does look a little stale these days.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you need a feature that Audacity doesn't have built-in, look for some of the third party plugins that are available. Compatibility with certain file types may not be part of the program by default because of licensing restrictions. Audacity is very popular, so finding support information to do advanced tasks is easy.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Unless your business works with audio files on a regular basis, you probably don't want to invest in a high end product just to do simple editing. Audacity fills a need for those users.

"Overall great software"

What do you like best?

I like how easy it is to use it for basic cutting/pasting/editing. We don't use it for much else, but it rocks at being basic and being easy for people who don't have a lot of knowledge of editing software.

What do you dislike?

Some things don't make sense. Why does it zoom out when I right click instead of letting me select to copy/paste something? No matter how many times I do it, I still haven't learned. Right click is a natural habit that we learn from the beginning of using computers. It's annoying that right click is a zoom feature in Audacity rather than what it is in every other program.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Great to use for cutting tidbits of audio from the radio that we want to share with clients. We often want to share examples of their live on-air spots and this is a great way to do it.

"Audacity is a simple open source Audio recording and editing software"

What do you like best?

Audacity has a very simple and first time user friendly

Audio editing and exporting is easy to figure out.

There is a huge number of formats available

There is also a large number of effects available to add to your tracks.

Starting and stopping a recording is a single click of a button.

There is an analyzer function that can pick out background noise and separate it from the rest of your audio tracks, making it easier to eliminate background noise.

What do you dislike?

Honestly there's nothing i don't like about Audacity

Recommendations to others considering the product

Try it! I guarantee you'll like it.

"Great Open Source Audio Editor"

What do you like best?

The software is free and the interface is clear and accessible. Users with no experience will be able to use the software with little hassle. You can easily edit using all the normal features and mix tracks and apply effects. It is really a great software program.

What do you dislike?

The oddest thing is the "export" and not "save". While I understand the idea might be that you wouldn't accidentally save over an existing file, it takes a little getting used to. Some of the export options aren't clear, but you can easily research the best settings for your audio files.

Recommendations to others considering the product

"Easy to Learn, Easy to Use, Full Featured"

What do you like best?

It is a powerful audio editor that is simple to use and easy to learn. I have successfully produced multiple podcasts using nothing but Audacity for audio production. It has the ability to sample noise, remove noise from audio, perform leveling and EQ, track blending, insert sound effects, and more.

What do you dislike?

The UI is old-school and does not play well with 4K monitors. If you want advanced or dynamic EQ features you need to either look at 3rd-party plugins or should look at paid products.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you want a free, easy-to-access, easy-to-learn tool for multi-track audio editing then this is for you. If you want an advanced UI and advanced EQ tools, then I would check out paid products like those from Adobe.

"Decent Freeware Audio Edito"

What do you like best?

You can do batch editing of audios which makes large edits quick and easy. It has a pretty straightforward interface that is easy to use if you are recording audio and doing simple editing. It is very powerful and there are a lot of how-to guides out there that help a user figure out what they can do with all the options in the software.

What do you dislike?

Unfortunately when you use certain audio encoding, Audacity adds odd static that other audio editors don't. So if you are preparing audio for use over the phone and you use u-law encoding your encoding will be even lower quality than you might have desired.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Be aware that certain aspects of the encoding may not be up to snuff. Utilize online how-to guides.

"Audacity Review"

What do you like best?

I often have to affect audio files (usually dialogue) by changing the tempo or changing the pitch to help it fit better in our spot. Audacity is super easy to use.

What do you dislike?

I haven't run into any issues with it yet. It works perfectly for what I use it for.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I use this for editing and affecting audio files for TV spots and movie trailers. It's incredibly useful.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

For trailers/TV spots we often have to fashion together dialogue lines or make them fit in a small duration of time. Audacity is very useful for changing the tempo and pitch of audio files. The tempo effect is particularly useful because it changes the speed of the overall clip without changing the pitch. It's also very helpful for music - changing the pitch of certain sounds so they work together. The export process is easy. There are many file options to choose from.

"An Exceptional Free Audio Toolbox"

What do you like best?

I'm a fan of free software, but have to admit that not all free software is actually "useful" or "free." Audacity is useful for my purposes, such as basic audio edits, trim, silence, and crop, and I'm definitely not using it to its full potential. Audacity has many more functions, some of which I've merely toyed with. I like that Audacity doesn't come saddled with advertisements, nagging donation requests, or spurious hidden software installations and trackers. It's an audio editor, nothing more, nothing less.

What do you dislike?

For basic users, such as myself, the number of options might be excessive. I think maybe it would cut down on the confusion - again, I'm a novice user - if there was a "Wizard" UI or similar "for dummies" UI option. Still, there is a reasonable amount of documentation and an active forum for end users of all levels to take advantage of.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Audacity can be a powerful tool, in the right hands, but might be too powerful - to the point of uselessness - in the hands of a novice. A novice might be confused by the array of features in this programming, but regular users and those in the know will surely appreciate the feature set in this free software.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I have used Audacity mostly for personal use, but in a couple of instances have used it to time and trim audio for insertion in video clips and video slideshows.

"Simple, fast, useful program with dated interface"

What do you like best?

What I like most about Audacity is that it is no-nonsense, it does what it says, relatively easy to use, precise, and works well for both simple and advanced users.

What do you dislike?

The interface is quite dated, looks like it was created in 2005 or so. However, it still works fine, but it would be nice if the interface could be updated at some point. It wouldn't have to become very slick, just a bit more refined.

What do you like best?

It does everything I need it to: Import and trim audio files (inc MP3 and WAV), it's fairly easy to discover the position that I need in the track. You're able to easily undo mistakes and retrim as needed.

The software allows more complex functions such as adding an effect on the audio, finding sounds and recording from a microphone.

What do you dislike?

The software is user friendly. The tools are great and exactly just what I need for editing. Adjustable audio waves for precise editing.

What do you dislike?

"Audacity- quick audio editing at its best"

What do you like best?

Audacity is simple to use for quick audio editing. It's intuitive and user friendly, and has been easy for my interns to pick up as well. It handles different types of audio files without problem. I also love that it is freeware. We are a nonprofit institute, and not having to pay for a software that we use constantly is a huge bonus.

What do you dislike?

I haven't had any real issues with audacity, although I've had to download some plugins to convert wav to mp3 and so on. That isn't a problem persay, just an extra step. It can occasionally be a little glitchy when trying to use it on a Mac, but that doesn't happen often.

Also, Panopto does not allow adding images to the video recordings -- therefore using powerpoint and adding the voice recording over it can be a good alternative.

"A Simple Platform for Audio Editing"

What do you like best?

Audacity is the perfect program for anyone looking to start learning basic audio editing. You can trim, clip, and convert audio files. A wide variety of audio effects and transitions can help enhance your audio project.

What do you dislike?

"Love it!"

What do you like best?

I love how easy and reliable it is. Usually, I prefer applications that look modern and attractive but Audacity has an outdated, simple look that is quite comforting when in need of a reliable audio editor. There is a strong sense of comfort whenever I use the program because I know it won't be too confusing or challenging.

What do you dislike?

"The best freeware sound editor out there!"

What do you like best?

I love how easy Audacity is to use. We tried a number of other pieces of software and found this one to be the best. While most of our usage is basic (record and export as mp3), we've had great luck with the boost, level, and normalizing functions the program comes standard with. It's also free which you can't beat!

What do you dislike?

Sometimes finding help topics for strange products is difficult. It also requires reading the install files prior to installing and then following the instructions exactly so that the initial setup is correct. If you don't follow those directions, you may find yourself incapable of using some of the functionality that the product is best for (such as converting to mp3s.)

Recommendations to others considering the product

Make sure to read the install instructions BEFORE you begin - like many freeware software, there are a lot of extra libraries and such that need to be installed to give it the best functionality.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We had to find a way to record cell phone conversations with clients (at their request as part of a mystery shopping program.) Audacity has been easy to use and (more importantly!) easy to teach to each new person.

"Free versatile sound editor for quick editing and more"

What do you like best?

This is a reliable and handy tool for fast and good quality sound editing. We can remove background noise and compress sound files to make audio tracks sound cleaner and more professional. We can add background music to voice overs and add effects and adjust a full range of settings to get the sound we're looking for.

What do you dislike?

The general layout seem dated. Some of the editing features can be difficult to work with. There aren't as many options for certain effects as other software, so if you're really going for a particular sound then it may be hard to achieve. There isn't an easily accessible support team as far as I know.

Recommendations to others considering the product

This software is free and there are lots of resources and online tutorials to help you. You can do basic editing or if you're knowledgeable and experienced with sound design, can probably do professional quality work with it.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We can edit sounds quickly with a bunch of presets that can at least get us going in the right direction. Most of the time the presets can handle whatever we need with maybe a few tweaks and adjustments. We're able to save files in a number of file types so they can be used across many different types of media or imported into other projects.

"Free, versatile and easy to use for basic sound editing"

What do you like best?

It's pretty straightforward to use, especially if you're already family with sound editing software. I can remove noise and compress audio files so we can get very robust and professional audio in our video projects. Doing that lets us worry less about microphone setup and quality so we can go and record in whatever way is comfortable and then process the sound in Audacity. Since we're not professional sound editors, using the many presets available makes life easier.

What do you dislike?

I'd like for there to be a sequencer that can be used for music similar to DAWs. It seems like Audacity could add that since it can play multiple sound files at once. The interface seems a bit dated. Overall, no major complaints though.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It's a great free tool that can come in handy. It's totally worth downloading for basic sound editing like compression, noise reduction or just to piece audio clips together.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We can quickly and easily edit sound so our videos and other materials sound more professional. We can do most of the processing on our own with presets so no expert help from technicians is usually needed.

"A high powered, Free, Open Source, Audio Editor"

What do you like best?

Audacity is a very feature-filled program and despite its power, its free! It has one of the best "noise removal" tools I have used, where you can isolate the sound you want to remove, and can use it as a profile to remove it from your entire audio track. This can be done to remove background noise of an air conditioner during recording, for instance

What do you dislike?

Even though its a very powerful program, its a little daunting when you open it up. There isn't very good training available, so unless you know what you are doing - it may be difficult to get started.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Developing a training guide that is easy to use.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We needed a low-cost audio editor for our voice over solution and to edit audio for training videos. Audacity has been a great solution due to its cost, and its power.

"Great for quick and easy recordings!"

What do you like best?

I love Audacity's interface. It provides a simple, easy to use method for recording. While many programs make it a hassle to record audio onto your computer, Audacity is quick to install, free, and easy to use. I appreciate the fact that it works well simply with your computer's microphones. However, you can also use external microphones, or import pre-recorded audio for editing.

What do you dislike?

There is very little to dislike about the program. Some people might dislike its simplicity, but I find it easy to navigate.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Get it!

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I am personally using Audacity to record and edit music files. I like the fact that I can import a pre-recorded trade and edit very easily from the program.

"This is the BEST program for beginners in audio recording!"

What do you like best?

I love the fact that even though this program is FREE online, it is capable of recording and producing professional quality audio mixes! It has numerous editing tools to work on your audio with and can also reproduce your recordings into other formats such as WAV, MP3, or AFII files.

What do you dislike?

I would have to make some thing up if I were going to complain about a free program that, so far, has been able to do everything I need it to in order to produce my product.

Recommendations to others considering the product

For anyone who's looking to produce and market their own recordings, you can't go wrong with Audacity!

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

As I did more work in the world of voice over entrepreneurs, I soon realized that I was going to need more than one form of audio file. I was thrilled to find out that Audacity is able to produce all of the common formats that were called for by the customers.

"Excellent entry level audio editing suite"

What do you like best?

The application is the perfect way to begin learning about how to edit audio. If you are already experienced, the suite also offers some more advanced capabilities, though it's primary benefit is that it is a great introductory product for getting to know how to do this. A cost effective, simple and easy to figure out UI contribute towards a solid piece of software.

What do you dislike?

I believe that like myself, most people would utilize this software to edit .MP3 files, and the software does not contain the codec to export MP3 files in it's standard form - you have to purchase an add-on. If you're editing other file formats, you'll be fine, but they don't give you the MP3 codec right off the bat.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Clipping and modifying audio tracks as part of videos. It's easy to rip audio from a video we are working on, drag it into audacity and change the pitch, playback speed, clip out unnecessary dialogue or sound variations and export the file into a plethora of formats. Then we can finalize by dragging the edited audio back into our video editor and resume our work.

"Amazing Open Source Audio Editing"

What do you like best?

Audacity is fantastic for recording and editing IVR prompts. While enterprise phone systems allow you to record and review audio through their own system, you don't get the kind of editing and control that you do with this tool. You can easily trim dead air, merge existing recordings into full phrases and review it all before exporting it to virtually any format you could ever desire.

What do you dislike?

The batch functionality could be a little more user friendly. Converting large groups of incorrectly formatted files into another format can be tedious to configure.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Audacity is free software even for commercial use under it's licensing agreement. It rivals the features of other paid products that I've used in the past like Sound Forge Pro. You really can't go wrong with at least giving Audacity a try before using a different solution.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The ability to quickly and accurately record IVR prompts in less attempts and greater consistency.

"The best free audio editing software available"

What do you like best?

Audacity has an extremely friendly user interface with a whole host of features to enable you to edit audio files quickly and easily. You can easily edit a single audio track, splice different audio tracks together and edit numerous tracks at the same time.

What do you dislike?

Whilst the user interface is easy to use, it's in dire need of a facelift! It looks like it's designed to be used on Windows 98. Also some of the more advanced features can be quite hidden away, I didn't know about a lot of the more advanced features it had until I'd done my own research.

Recommendations to others considering the product

For free audio software, I don't think you can do any better than Audacity. Granted, it's not as feature rich as a paid software (although I'd argue it has more features than some of the paid audio editing software I've seen!) but for what you get for free, it's fantastic.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I have to edit and splice together narration for online e-learning courses. Instead of having to pay an external narrator for rerecords, this helps to save money and time by being able to quickly and easily edit and splice audio together.

"Best Free Audio Recorder and Editor"

What do you like best?

I have used this product for 12 years and have found it to be intuitive, reliable, and robust. The Effects menu provides so many options. I have frequently used Noise Reduction, Fade out, Fade in, Amplify, and Leveler features as well as Generate - Silence menu option. Also, I love how the website provides an easy way to add the ability to export as an MP3 file.

I also love how easy it is to see which device is being used for the microphone and which is for the speakers. I have found that being able to easily adjust the volume level of input on the microphone to make a huge different in quality - naturally.

What do you dislike?

The Save as a Project feature is not as intuitive as just exporting the audio file as a .wav file. Otherwise, the is nothing I can say I've every disliked about it.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It's free and the audio quality is as good as Adobe's Audition

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I have used it to record and edit wav files for online training.

"Great software... If you don't use it on Windows 10 "

What do you like best?

Audacity without a doubt offers some of the best sound editing software, it's effective at it's job, and for the most part is easy to use.

What do you dislike?

However, like most softwares of it's kind, it involves a lot of time and effort to get used to it,but for Windows 10 a lot more time and grief went into actually installing the product and using it, for ages it simply wouldn't work, it kept saying that my audio devices wouldn't work, and it involved a lot of screwing around with different drivers, devices, programs and other such nonsense, Windows 10 has been available for a while now and a software such as this should have been adjusted

Recommendations to others considering the product

Use it alot and experiment with it, other wise there's no point, this is a program that sometimes requires some skill and patience, mostly the latter, once you get past it's looks however, it is a very useful tool in sound editign that you'd be a fool not to check out and play with at least once.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The Problem being solved is my videos having poor sound design, the benefits of audacity are blocking out the background noise, and making the audio a lot smoother.

"Amazing software all round "

What do you like best?

For professionals and for amateurs getting into recording or sound manipulation Audacity is just superb. The amount of addins you can download for free are just fantastic and you have the capability of exporting in many different formats making audacity very versatile. the great thing about the software is that its easy to use straight away with the more complex side of things there to learn later.

What do you dislike?

Audacity doesn't come with all of the bits and bobs and you have to download each of them separately. This is a very small issue as the software is great. Some people complain it doesn't come with the mp3 encoder but it literally takes a few seconds to download and it has it all laid out on the website.

Recommendations to others considering the product

download all the plugins straight away and help yourself later on. also check out the forums and see what other people have found out with the program as it really is a fantastic piece of kit in the right hands.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

In my spare time as a side project and for extra money I edit sound recordings and give them back to the client and I use audacity to do this. I also use it for my own projects as well as editing sound recordings from my main job to make them more discernible and understandable. Most of the time I have to edit out the over-riding white noise present in the phone call and give my managers something they can understand and you can do this all with the extra plugins available for free.

"The best you can get for free, but you can get far better."

What do you like best?

Audacity is a Digital Audio Workstation for recording and mixing music and other audio projects.

The best part about this software is that it is completely free. This makes it wonderful for hobbyists or other artists who want to learn audio mixing but don't want to pony up the cash first.

Audacity is compatible with most audio interfaces such as the Scarlett Focusrite series. This is great for recording high quality audio from instruments and microphones.

You can layer many tracks and edit them by splicing, dragging, or adding effects.

What do you dislike?

Audacity is an extremely limiting DAW. While you can use audio interfaces, you cannot record from midi controllers. It also tends to be very difficult to mix or create music within the program, as there is no midi capability and looping is problematic.

The effects are also very limited, and few in number. The effects are also destructive, meaning once it is applied it can't be edited or removed (without undoing subsequent actions)

The interface is also quite ugly, although that is just a cosmetic ideal.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Audacity is a great program for temp or exemplary mixing. After recording tracks, I did a preliminary mix in Audacity to give my mixer an idea of what I wanted. It was an easy way to get my ideas across clearly and quickly, and then let him do the advanced work in ProTools.

"Best free audio editor out there."

What do you like best?

- Free and open-source. No bundled software within the installer either. Cross-platform and runs on Windows, Linux, OSX and other supported operating systems. Actively developed with updates coming frequently.

- Due to it being free and open source, there's a wide community and lots of online tutorials and guides.

- Lightweight (doesn't use many system resources) so you can use it on older computers as well as newer ones. Even has legacy versions available that can run on Windows 98/ME/2000 and pre-SP3 Windows XP.

- Relatively easy to get started with for the basic functions (e.g. cutting tracks, voice recording, basic effect tweaks) but more savvy users can do more powerful audio manipulations.

- Large collection of pre-installed effects and audio generators. More can be downloaded elsewhere for free or for a price, dependent on where you look.

What do you dislike?

- This isn't really the Audacity team's fault, but if you want to export to proprietary formats like MP3 you do have to download external libraries (e.g. LAME for MP3). This doesn't take long but is an annoying extra step.

- User interface is solid but does look rather dated and you can get caught easily in the maze of menus looking for things.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you want to do some basic (and maybe even possibly more advanced) audio edits, this is definitely a tool worth looking at.

For production or working with lots of different loops/tracks, I'd recommend looking into alternative solutions like FL Studio, Logic Pro, FL Studio, Garageband or Mixtrack Pro.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Allows me to easily edit audio on the cheap (free!). Great for making tweaks when adding music and audio to my websites and videos. Also a really good tool for doing voice recordings.

"Audacity and Glitch Art"

What do you like best?

Audacity is a great free audio editing tool, but there's one side of it which is maybe unknown to some: it can be a powerful resource also for visual artists, designer, illustrators as well. This will be the subject of my review.

Since users are able to load and edit RAW files, it is actually possible to import image files and tweak them in order to make all sorts of glitch-art. The editing possibilities are almost endless and the results can vary between standard glitches and incredibly elaborate works of art.

What do you dislike?

Since the software was not expressively made for making glitch-art, the interface is not the best and users will have to do a lot of trial and error before getting the perfect result they're looking for.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you're looking for a way to make glitch-art without using already-made and overused presets, if you want to have full control on the glitches, than this is the software you need. Definitely recommended!

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

As an illustrator and visual designer, using this software allowed me to make great and most of all "realistic" glitches. Also it allowed me to have full control on the amount and look of the glitches themselves, which is something that's hard to obtain using different glitch-techniques

"Best FREE audio editing application."

What do you like best?

Audacity has a simplicity to its purpose and function. It isn't a software that is trying to be everything all at once making the application over complicated to use.

As a free application it is outstandingly well equipped and I have never run into any major issues or even had a software crash. I use the white noise reduction and removing of unwanted sounds all the time with perfect finishing results.

What do you dislike?

The UI/UX is starting to look very dated but that doesn't effect my willingness to use the application or recommend it to friends within the industry. Education and support for the software isn't the most comprehensive however the application is quite intuitive and several users have uploaded YouTube training support videos that are very easy to follow.

Recommendations to others considering the product

You wont regret the change as there is nothing better in the free application market.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

My job roll is quite diverse and not focused purely on audio editing that would warrant the purchasing of the larger applications on the market like Adobes Audition. Audacity is perfect for the lower end budgeted company that just needs to tweak its video sound quickly or make a medium size audio recording. If you don't have a studio you don't have to worry Audacity is capable of getting the sound flawless.

"When I work on audio production: I aim to use Audacity first!"

What do you like best?

I love the speed and breadth of tools that Audacity offers as part of its included assets. Since it supports VST extensions: Audacity's usefulness for me is not limited to a handful of effects, unlike some lesser audio recorders and editors.

What do you dislike?

Audacity's user interface hasn't been updated in a long time, which makes the program appear outdated or "old" to newcomers. I have no problem with the interface, myself; but I know many who shelled out for Protools or other related audio editors because of that.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Audacity is a versatile and free audio production tool for those of all skill levels! I've found it to be just as useful on professional mixes and single-track edits as with personal projects and small audio experiments.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Audacity makes quick and simple audio edits easy to complete within a limited timeframe, and for no cost! I've gotten much more mileage out of this application for my professional work than many other free (and some other paid) tools.

"Easy to use and learn"

What do you like best?

I`m a programmer, I didn´t know how to edit sounds or changing them to mp3. Searching online I found about Audacity, I watched some tutorials and it seemed easy so I give a try, that was 5 years ago. I used to edit sounds, export as mp3 and make some basic mixes, it is realy to use if you don`t know anything abouds sounds.

What do you dislike?

If you want to export mp3 in windows you have to download an extra component. In a previus version of Windows I have some troubles, I think it was vista. I should be incorporated because for me it is a important feature

Recommendations to others considering the product

There should be more advanced software to edit sounds, but for many developers or people not related to audio it is very easy to use and if you don`t know how to use something finding out it is very easy

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I saves me time because normally we hire a freelance to make the sounds, when I found that the sounds needs to be edited or transform it to a loop, I make the change and I don´t have to ask for help to the freelance, that saves us time.

" Great app!"

What do you like best?

- It is extremely light! Even on a computer with little processing power you can use it in high performance, i used it on my notebook with an old Intel Dual Core, and it runs perfectly;

- It has localization for multiple languages;

- It is an very user friendly program. if you have never used this tool before, don't worry, it is very easy to learn how to use it. And contrary to what one might think, is not a basic tool, you can do a lot with your music and audio tracks. I use it to edit effects and music for my games on my game studio;

- It has support for various input and output formats;

- It is free.

What do you dislike?

- The track volume control is a bit less intuitive and efficient than some similar apps.

Recommendations to others considering the product

- I recommend this tool to all who work with game development like me, and especially if you do everything alone in your studio, this tool greatly facilitates your work, it is easy to use and learn.

- If you're starting to edit sounds and music, Audacity can also be a great option for you.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I use it to edit effects and music for my games on my game studio.

It's a great tool, i can solve all the cases related to audio and music that I need, with this tool.

"How is this awesome software free!?"

What do you like best?

Of course the thing I like most about Audacity is that it's free, but there's also much more to love about it. It's packed with features and presets that are easy to use. It's so broadly used by professionals and hobbyists alike that tutorials are readily available online for nearly every possible function of the software.

What do you dislike?

Honestly the only thing I don't like about the software is the way the zoom feature works, but that's only because I am so used to Adobe's CTRL+ and CTRL- hotkey functions that it throws me off a bit.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you are looking for a robust audio editing tool that's packed with features, Audacity is the way to go. The fact that it's free is just icing on the cake!

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I primarily use Audacity to clean up and prep voiceover audio for animation and motion graphics projects. The software has robust noise reduction tools that help improve recordings as well as easy methods for slicing audio into sections.

"Best free, open-source, cross platform audio editing software out"

What do you like best?

The interface is simple and straight forward. Learning curve is low and documentation provided by the Audacity team is great.

What do you dislike?

Some features and functions are not intuitive and/or require more advanced configuration before working. For example, if you want to export to .MP3 file format, you may have to explicitly tell Audacity where to find the Lame converter files for the feature to work. If you don't have Lame already, you have to install it. And if you're a relatively novice computer user, finding and installing Lame may be difficult, as well as telling Audacity how to locate it once installed.

The interface is not as user-friendly as with comparable paid audio editors. For instance, you can't use a mouse wheel scroll while hovering over the waveform to zoom in and out. You have to click buttons to make this happen. That can be tedious. You can't mute a section of highlighted audio when playback is paused, you have to literally stop the playback and then perform the action. Small details, but not obvious ones, and certainly not very intuitive or user friendly.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Audacity is hands down the best free audio editing software out. If you're looking for something light weight, free, reliable and familiar feeling across operating systems, look to Audacity. It's great for single track editing, though not as user-friendly as Sony's Sound Forge or Adobe's Audition, but again it's free.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I manage a team of audio editors on a platform called LogueWorks. This team is made up of contractors from all across the globe, all with various computer set ups. Our official recommendation for software to use to complete the task required of them is Audacity because it's free, it's easy to get up and running with and it works on pretty much every computer set up our team works with. The fact that it's free has saved us thousands of dollars in reimbursement costs. The fact that it has great documentation and is easy to get up and running means we spend less time teaching people how to use the software. The fact that it's open-sourced means, even as new audio formats come out, we'll have software that we can rely on to get our work done.

"Long-Time User - Enjoys Audacity Compared to Other Programs"

What do you like best?

I like the functions that Audacity offers to manipulate audio files. We have other audio programs as part of our Creative Cloud subscription, but for what I do, I've always felt comfortable with Audacity. It's really straightforward and doesn't overwhelm me like other programs.

What do you dislike?

Some features that one may find in another, more robust program may be lacking in Audacity. For example, some of the effects or manipulation tools included in Garageband or some Adobe audio programs cannot be found here.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you're going to be doing smaller, easier projects, Audacity may be perfect for you. It's free and really simple to use. However, If you have more intensive project needs, require more control over your files or desire more audio manipulation/effect tools, you might want to look for another program.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Recently, we updated an employee call-in line, and I used Audacity to make minor changes to the VO file. It was quick and simple, and we were able to get exactly what we needed for the recording. I also used Audacity to string together a list of soundbites into a seamless quotation that ran at the end of a video project. Really neat stuff!

"Audacity is a great, simple, raw audio editor for small, basic recording projects."

What do you like best?

Audacity is very utilitarian. It is simple, it is effective, and it is not difficult to learn how to use. It is a basic linear recording tool, especially useful for demoing material, or recording simple voice recordings.

What do you dislike?

The implementation of effects is not very useful or easy, and advanced use of effects is not as easy as in other programs. However, I personally do not see Audacity as a program to be used for advanced or large-scale recording sessions (such as a multi-track musical sessions) anyway, so it is not detrimental to what I see as Audacity's main use.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Audacity is a great tool and program for individuals needing simple audio recording capability. It is not efficient or very useful for large scale production, but is great for voiceover uses, and demoing musical material.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I work with voiceover artists, and Audacity is a very useful program for home recording, and audtiion recording away from a major studio.

"Simple, open source audio editing and mixing solution"

What do you like best?

This is a perfect example of simple and free solution that is not overburdened with so many not needed options and features. Design of user interface is evolutionary, so users from older version have no problems to switch to newer version. There is plenty of specialized options. Very fast in work.

What do you dislike?

Translation of user interface is done only partially (50 - 60 %). User interface must be better designed. Customization options are limited.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It's a simple and free audio director and mixer that is perfect for small or simple projects. Easy to understand, easy to use and user interface don't change much with every new version.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

"Lots of sound editing options for an open source"

What do you like best?

I like that this software is made available for windows and mac operating systems. I like that this software is not heavy on graphics and is simple in the looks to operate with.

For being an open source software, it is loaded with many options and tools. It does have its common tools

with a mixer board and DTMF Tones. Its Effects is loaded with options.

I do like that you have your Hz and your timeline to work with.

Another great feature that i do like is the rendering of a recording. very fast and smooth.

The main layout of the program has a familiar icons of display as if am using a Microsoft Word product. This is because of its clipboard inions and zoom in and out, rotate left and right icons.

With this being said, i like that it carries a familiar look where a novice can earlier learn and not feel intimidated when trying to use this software.

What do you dislike?

As i have said, it looks very simple but i sometimes wish it gave the users a choice when loading. Perhaps a basic mode and an advance mode.

One thing i don't like is, as i loaded an audio in the timeline. The right click functions are not available. I have to go to the top bar and select from the menu. I would like to quick or frequent right click options.

I don't see where i can load effects that are custom. I do understand that its limited and i hope this software still continues to grow because i see so much potential, especially since its open source.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I do recommend this to any new user trying to learn the basic and testing your skills with some advance audio mixes and controls. I like that this software is growing and has lots of potential, however i would like to see some quick right click features. On the plus side, this can be overcome with shortcuts.

Its a users preference, but this is open source so perhaps updates have come out by third party to make it easier to work with.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Using custom effects, with a feel of custom advance look.

"Free, simple audio editing and export. The best and easiest choice."

What do you like best?

My favorite thing about Audacity is not just that it is free, that is pretty big for a lot of people, but that it is very easy to use. Sometimes when all you need is to clip out a piece, or fade in fade out and export, this is the program I go to first.

What do you dislike?

Even though the export process is easy the one thing I do dislike is you do not know the final size of the audio file, it would really help to have an approximation so you can modify the export to fit your needs whether it being just wanting to know how large a high res audio export would be or to fit it into a compressed need and know you can make it without having to keep exporting and testing.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you need a free and simple audio editor, enter metadata, and have simple export process then audacity is the program you are looking for. It doesn't get easier, and even though the UI hasn't changed much, it allows a low impact on your hard drive and gets you editing quickly and done.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

When a customer needs a quick cut down/preview I like how i can do a live preview and get them a conversion very quickly with this. Even if its putting metadata to the clips, it helps that audacity allows you to combine it and get it done simply.

"Solid But Lightweight Audio Editor"

What do you like best?

Audacity is a cinch to use. Simply put, it's the easiest program I have ever used to edit audio files—trimming, cropping, adjusting levels, and removing background noise is as simple as intuitive as it could possibly be. It also allows you to record audio within the program, and monitor it as you record. Editing is incredibly simple with multiple tracks and the ability to zoom in or out to just about any level, meaning you can draw in your own samples if you want which can be pretty handy for some synthy sounds.

What do you dislike?

Although the basics of the program are very easy to grasp, there are huge number of effects and filters and advanced techniques which are either not documented, or documented so poorly they may as well not be documented. The user interface is generally simple, but overall quite outdated and could definitely use a facelift (not just for aesthetics, but usability as well).

Recommendations to others considering the product

Audacity is free and easy to use. It is definitely worth a try, and if you don't like it you will have put very little effort and cost into it. If you do like it, you'll be editing audio files in no times. I recommend watching a tutorial (such as https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCisC3sHneM) to get you up and running in no time.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I use Audacity to edit sound files for video recordings that we do (generally <5 minutes in length, though we have used it for longer (~30 minute) files as well.

"Great simple experience "

What do you like best?

I like that i’m able to understand the software easily and grasp the concepts clearly. There isn’t much prior experience with editing audio files required, and it isn’t hard to teach yourself the materials. Things are self-explanatory and I think that’s very helpful especially if you have a time constraint and need a quick edit.

What do you dislike?

I dislike that the app is quite outdated. There aren’t no new updates to it besides it’s old interface, and the plain design.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The business problems that Audacity solves is the efficiency aspect. When working on a project, it’s important to spend more time working on the project, rather than learning the software.

"Still one of the best freeware"

What do you like best?

Audacity is a stripped down, audio program with which you can record and produce. I think of it as the opposite of Apple's Garageband. It's been around forever and there's lots of material about how to use it, though the UI doesn't give much clue.

It offers multitrack recording, but without all the aids that you get in other applications, but it can do, as in perform, almost any need.

If you're into Macports FFMpeg, you can load those libraries as an alternative to mp3 libraries.

Whereas Garageband and Pro Tools requires tens of gigs of space, Audacity is less than 75MB (libraries not included). It's more friendly with old school stuff like soundflower.

This is like learning to drive on a stick shift.

What do you dislike?

Although it can do just about anything you have to find the documentation and libraries, ports and whatnot to actually get all the capacities necessary for making and sharing audio files today.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Slow learning curve but well worth it.

"Simple, effective, and low-cost"

What do you like best?

Audacity is a straightforward audio editing application that makes isolating and removing noise from scratch audio insanely easy. It's well-suited for singular tasks with audio -- less for mixing and more for editing/adjusting/modulating -- but on these fronts it performs robustly.

What do you dislike?

The graphics user interface for this program can seem a little bland and dated. Audio waveforms represented graphically don't have the familiar looks of Adobe, Sony or Apple suite products; so users new to Audacity may find that the interface takes some 'getting used to'. Additionally, working on more than one audio track at a time, for mixing or mastering, can be a bit of a chore.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you have very niche needs for audio editing and mastering, ,Audacity may offer the right solutions to you. For our purposes, which are very specific, we make great use of some of the features of the application. For intensive audio mixing and mastering, however, I would recommend a product with a more fully-featured graphics user interface and intuitive workspace.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We frequently run into issues with source audio when dealing with corporate clients. Oftentimes, we'll have a testimonial or interview for a broadcast ad recorded in a noisy environment, and the only solution is selective sound isolation and noise reduction. While tools from our Adobe Suite may be more robust, they are not straightforward or simple enough as Audacity is. In the app, we literally select a plain noise portion, and select Effect > Noise Removal > Get Noise Profile. Could not be easier -- and not only that, it's effective! The noise removal in Audacity is a novel feature, but one that is excellent and technically proficient.

"First audio editor I used when I started editing. "

What do you like best?

It's a relatively simple audio editor that packs a great punch. It's very similar to older versions of Adobe Audition, so when you can afford to make the transition it's incredibly easy. The best part is that it's free and open source, (however I recommend donating a little bit to keep it free for newcomers). It has great audio effects and cleans up audio very well.

What do you dislike?

The only problem I have with it is that it can't work with WAV format files. You can export into WAV, but can't edit them. I believe it's a licensing issue with Microsoft. Other than that I don't have many problems with it!

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you already have the Adobe CC then you really don't need this program. But if you're just starting out and can't afford the more 'professional' programs, or need to quickly edit some audio, then this program is definitely for you.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I've mainly used it to clean audio up. When there's background noise, hums, hisses, buzzes, etc. it cleans them up just as well as the pro programs.

"Simple to use, fast and free"

What do you like best?

Audacity is not just one of the best open source sound editors, it is one of the best open source applications out there period.

If you are a multimedia creator (apps, games and rich online content), then Audacity is your one-stop for working with sound assets.

It enables you to edit your samples then use various filters to polish them up to production standard.

Things like ‘remove wind noise’ and kill that ‘pesky fan noise you never realised was there when you shot your vBlog’ right down to the usual standard techniques (top-and-tailing’, where you fade in and fade out any game effects samples so they create no clicking, and normalising your sound assets if they came from different sources so that they now all sound the same).

For the pro sound creator, Audacity supports VST plugins, so you can use Audacity for quick edits outside your normal (and typically much larger) authoring environment. This may be important if you work within a team and need basic edits of-loaded, as happened a short while ago to me (I just needed someone to add noise reduction and normalization to a lot of sound effects for a web game, and got my partner to do it for me in Audacity).

What do you dislike?

It doesn’t integrate into your workflow as well as native applications if you are using a suite such as Adobe CC (you might use Adobe Audition in this case).

It requires a bit more technical know-how; you may have to install things like LAME/ffmpeg to get the best from Audacity. Not a problem for most people as It is all pretty well documented.

UI is a little dated.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Free, open source, stable. Works well on low spec systems.

"Audacity is a great lightweight sound editing application"

What do you like best?

It is free. That's nice in the audio world. It does lots of things that you might want. I don't know if it compares with the more professional programs but I found it easy to open recordings I made and edit them by clipping bits from them, adding parts together and editing some of the values of the sounds. I'm an amateur using audio programs so I don't entirely understand all the details of effects or the sound generation tools but I find I can still experiment with them. I made several different kinds of sound compositions out of noise I recorded in my environment. It was easy to make something.

It's an easy download from the internet but there are several libraries that should be downloaded with it. It was easy to open an audio file and create more complex compositions. I also found it easy to open other kinds of audio files and make changes to them. For free, it's a really convenient and valuable tool.

What do you dislike?

Since I don't understand so much of the area of sound there are parts of the interface I don't understand. That's not a problem for the software as much as it's a problem for me.

Downloading the plugin libraries always takes me some time and while it's really easy, it's also easy to be confused by the process.

Sometimes I find myself redoing my work over and over because I do something I don't like and I think it will be easier to start over than step backwards.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Audacity will give you access to tools for editing audio that are easy to learn and fairly robust. It will allow you to create sounds, edit and combine sounds or change a sound file from one type to another.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I used Audacity to create a composition out of random sounds and later created a movie that worked with the sounds. I also took some interviews and spliced them together so I could listen to them myself as single files.

"Quick and free way to edit and improve audio"

What do you like best?

Easy to pick up and start using, Audacity is a simple way to perform quick/small scale audio edits. Append tracks, change volume, remove noise, add effects, etc. It's super intuitive to use if you know some audio lingo and know what you want to achieve. As someone with no mixing experience I'm able to create passable audio tracks at a good level, and it's free to use which is a huge bonus.

What do you dislike?

The UI looks like it's from 1997 and the shortcuts are super unintuitive. Some of the effects take a long time to produce and the snapping functions are finicky. As well, when you are playing back a track and pause, it's hard to get your cursor to that point and also if your cursor is set and you start playing you lose that saved location.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It's free, give it a try. If you're experienced in audio skip it. If you want something easy to use and you're pretty new, grab it!

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Editing and mixing audio tracks for our voicemail system as well as for within our Vlogs/explainer videos. Creating sound effects for use within our apps.

"Amazing program for the price (or lack thereof)"

What do you like best?

The best part about Audacity is that it is free, while still giving you the tools you need to get the job done. In addition, it's open source and available for Windows, Mac, and Linux. This allows anyone to download the program and begin making edits. If you are on a budget, Audacity is the perfect tool to learn and grow on while you build your skillset and work towards purchasing a more advanced program. If simple tasks are all you need to do, then you can probably stick with it for a long time.

What do you dislike?

Obviously, since the program is free, it does have its limits. You may have to spend some time learning the program and its different features. In addition, the effects, while useful, are not all that powerful and you may get unsatisfactory results.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you're looking for a great (free) program that is well rounded, I would absolutely recommend Audacity.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Audacity is used very seldom, since I now have access to Audition and Pro Tools. However, Audacity did have its time in the early stages when I needed to make quick edits and had nothing else available. If you're traveling or are in an area where you can't access other programs, a quick download of Audition can get you up and running so you can get the job done.

"The best free audio editor"

What do you like best?

It's free, and it's open source, which are two major bonuses when we're talking about software. It is a great option for schools, teaching music production and sound design, since there are so many tutorials readily available on the internet.

It also has a powerful effects engine and the ability for the community to write their own plugins, which makes this even more interesting.

What do you dislike?

The audio interface can be a little bit difficult to operate, especially when it comes to selecting and moving around audio pieces. The UI is also fairly out of date.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you can spend the money:

If making films and using other software in the Adobe suite (such as Premiere etc), then definitely go for Audition, it integrates really well.

If using Apple Devices or Final Cut Pro X, then go for Logic Pro X.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Audacity allows us to create quick and dirty recordings out in the field on unfamiliar hardware. Sure, it is nice to be able to bring along a laptop running Audition or Logic Pro etc. but sometimes you don't have the option and need something that can be downloaded onto any computer. This is that piece of software.

"Its simplicity is its strength"

What do you like best?

Audacity is the perfect tool for quick and dirty audio editing. With pared down features and UI, the focus is on the audio. The tools for cutting and editing audio are presented directly to you with no searching through menus required. It also has an excellent variety of effects from various sources, making this product very versatile. The audio files are presented simply onscreen, allowing you to directly interact with your whole project, improving focus and increasing efficiency.

What do you dislike?

It seems to me that simplicity is its strength and its weakness. Audacity is missing some important features present in other audio editors such as certain effects. As well as that, there is no effect management or stacking, meaning that you can't edit effects after applying them. There are also problems with precision selection of audio (sometimes a problem when trying to create perfect loops). Furthermore, I don't think anyone would disagree that this product is not especially attractive. It could definitely use a UI revamp to improve its image.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Excellent for amateurs. Very good for professionals looking for quick editing. If you desire a full featured product, look elsewhere.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

This product is mainly used for sound design in school theatre. Since the budgets are tight, it is very valuable to have a free application to edit audio. It is also very easy to use, allowing younger students to quickly gain the skills required to create soundscapes and edit sound effects.

"Handy wave editor"

What do you like best?

Audacity is easy to use and works flawlessly.

It is the best free wave editor that I have ever tried.

I have used it for years and it continues to improve.

Now with multitracking -- you can replace your DAW for small projects.

Great plug-in support and it works in several operating systems.

I use it often for fade-in and out and for checking the amplitude on a final mix.

What do you dislike?

There is absolutely nothing to dislike. Audacity works well. You cannot expect it to be a fully featured DAW, because it is not really intended to do that.

Note: Some operating systems require an additional LAME download to export to mp3 format

Recommendations to others considering the product

Download it and try it for yourself. It is a great software that is easy to use and will prove very handy.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Audacity is there for me when I need it.

Visiting at someone's home and want to record something -- a quick download and you have tools in hand.

Audacity is clean and has a variety of tools and filters that have proved very useful to me in my work.

What do you like best?

I haven't used much other software besides audacity for audio production so it's hard to figure out what's the best part of this software.

I like that the program is pretty easy to use and that it never crashes or has problems. I can find help pretty easily on the Internet to help me figure out some of the features too.

Overall it's pretty easy to use and it's free.

What do you dislike?

"Audio masters "

What do you like best?

I normally use audacity to transcribe interviews and with the program I can slow down the audio, make voices clearer, and really pick apart an interview script to get an accurate transcription

What do you dislike?

This program takes up a lot of space on my PC which has pushed me to get an Apple, which I have at work. For solely an audio software, it requires far too much memory. I wish they’d implement this into an editing software so that it’s eaiser to multitask

Recommendations to others considering the product

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I solve a lot of my audio issues with audacity, it gives me the ability to quick transcribe interviews if my boss requests that for a certain video in the making. It’s resllt simple to use, I haven’t gone too far into the advance parts of the app but it’s always been reliable

"Great free Audio Software!"

What do you like best?

Audacity is one of the easiest free, open source, cross-platform audio software for multi-track recording and editing.

What do you dislike?

Really not too much to dislike given the no cost of this software. There is a slight learning curve, however, if you are at all familiar with audio editing, this software is pretty straightforward.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Well if you are looking for a basic, feature rich, powerful audio editor, Audacity is certainly a smart place to start. It is 100% free, open source, cross-platform audio software for multi-track recording and editing.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
