"BESTEST DESIGN WEAPON FOR MECHANICAL WARRIORS"

What do you like best?

As same as traditional autocad I like all the visual improvements in latest version, mostly I like the way to work with both autocad and autocad mechanical in terms of preparing of drawings, no any other softwares other than autodesk products will offer us a such type of easiest steps to prepare drawings, As I like best the keyboard shortcut command options like move, copy, stretch etc. user does not need to search command button on screen if you know all the shorcuts no any other softwares other than autodesk products will offer us a such type of best thing..

What do you dislike?

As same as traditional autocad and autocad LT, I dislike the move from autodesk that they removed the AUTOCAD CLASSIC wprkspace from 2015 and earlier versions, Autodesk need to include it in their latest versions, for older designers it is headache to be familiar with newer work space,

But that is not a big deal, You can include autocad classic work space manually in latest versions simply search how to add autocad classic workspace in autocad 2019 or any of the version after 2015, You can get entire procedure for it, I also uploaded video about it on my youtube channel, simply search it..

Recommendations to others considering the product

I recommend this software to those users who are dealing with mechanical design and detailing work, also recommend to older users who are suffering with issue of AUTOCAD CLAASIC work space that kindly go to google and type " HOW TO ADD AUTOCAD CLASSIC WORK SPACE IN NEWER VERSIONS OF AUTOCAD MECHANICAL" you people will definitely got the solution,

This software is also recommend to small unit users who has less budget towards design work because it is most economical software in market also most trustable software..

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The business problems like drafting, detailing and conceptual drawing can be resolved by this software, if any 3d software is not avalable we can prepare 3d models also in it, and can get conceptual weight of product by applying material on it,

The benefits I have realized that it is most easiest and userfriendly software for traditional designers, also very economical software as compare with other design softwares..

"AutoCAD Mechanical 2018 has made some simple yet very effective improvements."

What do you like best?

The overall look of AutoCAD Mechanical 2018 is very similar to past versions of the last few years but has some added visualization improvements that make working in it a little more comfortable for beginners and legacy users alike. The previews of commands while applying them gives you a great visual on what you are about to do to help you avoid re-work or re-inputs of commands.

What do you dislike?

For an old school designer like myself, I have not liked the push to eliminate the classic menus. Whenever I deploy new installations within my company, I spend time customizing certain some workstations to utilize the classic menu's including my own. I can work a lot faster using classic menus and icons to do the work than I can with the Ribbon style of commands. In 2018 versions, I have noticed that some of the classic menus are no longer available. This is a bad move by Autodesk in my opinion. Since about 2015 or so, they have hidden the classic menus and they have to be turned on using the MENUBAR (from 0 to 1) and the -TOOLBAR command lines to get your toolbars turned back on. Be sure to save your customized WORKSPACE when you are finished.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you are a old school classic user/administrator like me, turn on the classic menubar using the command MENUBAR and set the parameter from 0 to 1. Then use the -TOOLBAR (must include the dash) and enter STANDARD which will turn on the standard toolbar. You can then drag that toolbar to the side and then right-click in the gray area close to the toolbar and see the selection of other classic toolbars to turn on. For most now, you will use the RIBBON style (similar to MS Office programs) for commands. Either way, this is a great and easy to use design program that can assist any level of user for many applications.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We use AutoCAD Mechanical for some 2D layouts and a lot of electrical schematics. As an engineering firm, AutoCAD Mechanical is very useful for our designs and internal projects. While INVENTOR is used for most designs of parts and assemblies these days, there are some things you just can't do with INVENTOR or at least do simply with INVENTOR that AutoCAD Mechanical can do.

"2d layouts "

What do you like best?

Great program for doing floor plans & plant layouts, this also works great for doing gaskets and some sheet metal flat patterns. another benefit of this program is it works in several engineering areas like civil, arch and Mech.

What do you dislike?

I wish there was more dynamic input change line length by adjusting the dimension. finding commands and buttons as well as creating drawings and printing can be a challenge.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you are purely doing 2D type work this is good software if you are doing anything 3D this software will not work. it can be difficult to learn if you are not familiar with drafting or drafting software.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I used it for machine stack ups and floor layouts. Its an almost universal software/file type almost anyone in industry can open & read and/or modify the drawings make it great for collaboration and working with customers to get exactly what they need/want

"AutoCAD has been the standard for years, and still works well for CAD."

What do you like best?

It's simple, intuitive, and can still be used by those of us who originally learned AutoCAD. It's a familiar package and continues to support legacy CAD packages. It's easy to manipulate in 2d, and works fantastically for drawings, especially when you might want to highlight certain features or geometry without recreating the part or creating section views (in simple terms).

What do you dislike?

Newer CAD platforms seem to offer so much more, in terms of user-friendliness and intuitive GUI. There are still a few basic things that AutoCAD should be able to do that it does not, in terms of advanced tools, surfacing, and complex features and assemblies. But typically, if you're using AutoCAD, you aren't in need of those things.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you have some repetitive drawing work that you need for production, this would be my go-to, especially for relatively simple assemblies that might just need a few small geometric or length changes. Anything more complex, like complex 3d assembly, advanced mates, features, or surfaces, I'd probably recommend something else.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

CAD for conveying family-type cable assemblies and repetitive drawing features and tables that other CAD programs are too cumbersome to use (due to being too feature rich).

"Excellent 2D CAD software"

What do you like best?

I like that most of my keyboard commands have stayed the same over the years. This is by far the best 2D CAD software on the market.

What do you dislike?

I don't like that a few of my often used commands have been removed.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you need to do 2D drawings, this is the only software you need to look at. This is the best.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I am designing pump layouts and BO)M's with this software to give to customers. The customers like to see what the actual pump will look like when they get it.

"Es una de las herramientas CAD mas importantes y de mas extenso uso para el diseño mecánico"

What do you like best?

What do you dislike?

Como el resto de los programas de Autodesk, a medida que van evolucionando las aplicaciones, estas demandan mejor hardware, por lo que es necesario disponer de una buena maquina para poder realizar el modelado de manera eficiente.

Recommendations to others considering the product

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

"Easy to use, user friendly CAD package"

What do you like best?

I like that it is an easy to use CAD package. The user interface is very intuitive.

What do you dislike?

It can be a bit clunky sometimes when looking at 2D drawings and trying to print the window you want to.

Recommendations to others considering the product

This CAD package will handle all of your 2D drawing needs. It is an intuitive software package and is easy to use. It can handle all your basic needs, as well as, handle more advanced aspects of CAD.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Using AutoCAD to view, print, and modify 2D .dwg files. AutoCAD handles the .dwg files better than Inventor does.

"The Standard for 2D Drafting, but Otherwise Left Behind"

What do you like best?

AutoCAD is perhaps the easiest CAD package to generate a 2D drawing, sketch, sheet metal flat, etc. Since at its core, it is mainly just a sketcher, it is one of the easiest CAD programs to pick up and run with, whether as a first-time user or an occasional one. While not in my current field, I have used it in the past for things like building floorplans and could see the usability advantage for something like that.

What do you dislike?

3D modeling is simply not intuitive or all that capable. I suppose it could be used similarly to any direct modeling package, but there are countless others that do what it does much more quickly and easily.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Your industry will dictate whether AutoCAD is the right package for you. If everyone else is using it, there is probably a reason. But for more and more industries, AutoCAD is being left out as a needed skill.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I mainly use AutoCAD for quick sketching, checking legacy tooling layouts, and file interchange (measuring off DXFs, etc.).

"Gold standard for CAD design"

What do you like best?

The best feature of AutoCAD is knowing that everyone else in the engineering field can open any file you send them. The universal compatability is a big plus to AutoCAD. I also like the ability to use a centralized license server for all licenses. The integration with AutoCAD 360 is also a nice cloud feature.

What do you dislike?

What I dislike is that there is no introductory or beginner mode for each version that is released. Sometimes you can overlook the new features because they are not very obvious. Sometimes the menus can get a bit deep and it is very easy to lose your place while trying to find a command.

Recommendations to others considering the product

AutoCAD Mechanical is a great product. I happen to have version 2013. The centralized license server ability is a very nice feature if you are managing a lot of CAD users. This will make sure that a license is never lost on a machine when the user leaves the company. The price is expensive, but you won't go wrong with AutoCAD Mechanical.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We have been able to convert over all the old Microstation drawings to AutoCAD mechnical. This allows us to be able to share these files and know that our contractors will be able to view and manipulate them properly.

"AutoCAD Ease in an Unfamiliar Environment"

What do you like best?

AutoCAD Mechanical adds tons of features to my usual AutoCAD LT setup, but doesn't make them complicated to use. I only use Mechanical on a rare basis when I am assisting friends or colleagues of mine who aren't familiar with drafting software, and moving over from AutoCAD LT to Mechanical when they need 3D models created couldn't be easier. The interface, menus, and manipulation of objects carries straight over from any other AutoCAD software, which makes picking up Mechanical very simple.

What do you dislike?

The price of AutoCAD Mechanical is steep, however you are paying for what you get. AutoCAD Mechanical has way more features than I would ever need, and being able to work within the industry standards should justify the price.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Given the price of AutoCAD Mechanical, I would suggest learning the AutoCAD interface either in a classroom environment or in one of the more stripped down versions of AutoCAD like AutoCAD LT. Once you get a feel for the interface and how to create and edit objects within AutoCAD, the transition over to 3D modeling in Mechanical will be much easier to adjust to.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I use Mechanical at my colleagues office when he needs me to help him create a 3D model for one of his prototypes, and it is always a simple process. From his hand-drawn drafts, I can easily create 3D models for him, and it has even been easier than I thought to teach him how CAD software works so that he can start doing some of his simpler models on his own.

"Single best software for plant layout work"

What do you like best?

AutoCAD Mechanical software includes all the functionality of AutoCAD software, plus comprehensive libraries of standards-based parts and tools for easy use.

It is Lightweight and easy to use for beginner layout designers.

Most important tool for manufacturing and industrial engineers for process changes affecting the product/material flow layout. Important tool for continuous improvement.

AutoCAD is good because it is like an "all purpose" drafting program. in this I mean that AutoCAD can be used to make drawings for many fields, I have used it for mechanical drawings, architectural drawings, maps etc.

What do you dislike?

Nothing much to dislike. It can be improved in the in built library of parts and also can be made more interactive by more drag drop features. its best for 2D drawings, but the 3D experience can be improved more like solidworks/inventor.

Recommendations to others considering the product

highly recommend for all types of industry for layout, maps, direction mapping, drawing, drafting etc.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

AutoCAD can be used to make drawings for many fields, I have used it for mechanical drawings, architectural drawings, maps etc.

"Great product for mechanical drawings!"

What do you like best?

I used AutoCAD Mechanical for a while and was really impressed. It's very easy to use, mainly because of the fact that its interface and layout is pretty similar to other CAD software out there so if you have any experience with other CAD software, getting used to AutoCAD would hardly take any time. The files are compatible with almost every CAD software out there which makes it very easy to switch.

What do you dislike?

I mainly used AutoCAD Mechanical for 2D drawings. I tried 3D modeling a couple of times but didn't like it so much as the overall experience wasn't very interactive.

Recommendations to others considering the product

The software is great for generating mechanical drawings, not that much for 3D part modeling so chose the software accordingly.

"a must have for every Designer "

What do you like best?

what i like the most about this product is the compatibility with different CAD software and that i can save my technical drawing in a many different extension that could work in different programs

very easy to use especially for users who are familiar with Autodesk programs

user-friendly

different tools and add-ins that are really helpful

and without a doubt it. it has amazing support from Autodesk team as they will answer almost any question you ask in no time

the product is really famous which means we can find a lot of people who can use it and that really dose save a lot of money and effort

What do you dislike?

it took me a while to get used to it in the beginning

there should be a tool that can extract the fitting and the data from CAD design instead of me adding all variables such ass welding and a clearance between each part

adding the different layers some times becomes a headache there should be a better and easier way to do ot

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

as a design company we definitely need such a product as we have CAD design and we need to create the technical drawing for them to be sent for manufacturing and Autocad Mechanical has always helped us with this issue as we have created an endless amount of drawings with it

we use inventor for our designs so it is quite easy to transform

"Stable 2D Design Tool"

What do you like best?

It is a very good and reliable 2D drafting and design tool built on many years of industry experience. For those not needing an extensive solid modeling tool such as Inventor or SolidWorks (or the like), it will serve you well.

What do you dislike?

I do not have any specific dislikes to share. I spend 95% or more of my time using Autodesk Inventor or SolidWorks for my design work. I only utilize AutoCAD Mechanical for legacy work or for files supplied by customers in that format.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We utilize it for legacy documents and customer supplied documentation review.

"Layouts, machine design, & sheet metal flattings"

What do you like best?

Blocking & layering functionalities are a huge strength. Do be careful moving one block to another file though - if a block with the same name exists on the other file, the one being imported will automatically change itself to match the existing block.

This program is an economical way to product machine layouts, machine designs & sheet metal flattings.

Don't ignore the tool library functionality either - it's a great help for standardizing parts used.

What do you dislike?

Not having the part associativity across drawings (like in 3D programs) means you have to change every assembly drawing that may have contained the part you revised. If you don't have that part as a "block", it gets even more cumbersome.

Recommendations to others considering the product

For applications wherein you have assemblies that are fully standard (ie: custom machine design), I would suggest using Autodesk Inventor simply due to the necessity of associativity (you change a part in one drawing and it automatically pushes those changes to other drawings containing that part).

For businesses with well established standards / products that change less frequently, AutoCAD Mechanical is a fantastic product that will more than suffice.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

AutoCAD mechanical is a cost effective way to do the mechanical engineering needed in most settings.

"Long-Time AutoCAD User: Mechanical may be more than you need"

What do you like best?

Adds more mechanical design features, standard parts and content center as well as better detailing features on top of the basic AutoCAD package. The standard parts libraries are a nice feature and can save a lot of time if 2D is your thing. The UI has come a long way, I would say. I remember using AutoCAD for Mac several years ago and thinking the dark UI was funky (it was very close to how the Mechanical UI is today) but I think they've improved some of the intuitiveness before they rolled it out to the PC version and I now consider myself a fan.

What do you dislike?

If you're looking for a just a standard CAD drafting package, Mechanical will probably be an overshot. I often find myself just gravitating back towards AutoCAD vanilla when needing 2D work done. It's much simpler and straight-forward. If you're wanting a full-featured all-in-one mechanical design software package, you could use Mechanical. I would personally rather go with Inventor for the more detailed 3D mechanical design and then use basic AutoCAD for your 2D needs (which are becoming more & more rare these days). The 3D and parametric features leave a lot to be desired in my view, but if you don't have Inventor, they are more than adequate.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I would strongly recommend you go the 3D route and look into Inventor. The Autodesk Product Design suite comes with Inventor, AutoCAD Mechanical as well as vanilla AutoCAD. We find ourselves using a combo of Inventor/AutoCAD basic much more often than resorting to AutoCAD Mechanical. I suppose it just depends on your needs.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We honestly don't use Mechanical that often. The combination of Inventor/AutoCAD vanilla meets all the needs of our business at this time. I have used Mechanical at previous jobs almost exclusively and am glad to be an Inventor-only guy at this point.

All the Standard Functions of AutoCAD but then the addition of Standard parts library of Mechanical and structural components are very useful.

Bill of Material tools are very good at managing parts in a complicated assembly.

What do you dislike?

As it is AutoCAD there are a few tools that needs improving.

3D part of product is not that user friendly as a parametric modellers, but it can get the job done.

"Powerful 2D CAD Software - Quick and Reliable, but not ideal for 3D"

What do you like best?

This software is excellent for 2D geometric analysis, building layouts, section view layouts, and the like. It's much faster to make layouts in 2D using AutoCAD's semi-intuitive interface than it is to attempt to make a layout in a program dedicated to 3D parametric modeling. The software is quick, reliable, and the basic text commands haven't changed much over the years. It integrates with AutoDesk 360, which is bittersweet, and is easily customizable. AutoCAD's phone support is excellent and we've always had success with them.

What do you dislike?

If you don't know the text commands, you won't be able to be as proficient in the software as you should. Lots of time is spent on Google trying to find how to do certain actions, such as patterns, taking the volume/area of a 2D solid, etc. The software desperately wants you to use AutoDesk 360, which is not polished enough and sometimes causes slow responses or crashes, but it's rare. This software is not ideal for 3D modeling, as it takes more time than using a dedicated program like Inventor or SolidWorks.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Ensure your system is compatible. There is a learning curve.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

My business uses Inventor to design complex mechanical seals, which are manufactured and tested in-house. We use AutoCAD to do the initial 2D layouts, geometric analysis (making sure that our piping will fit and avoid any obstructions), doing engineering change notices, and doing very basic sectional drawings. Using AutoCAD for these purposes saves us a huge amount of time over trying to model everything in 3D, especially when we're only trying to get a basic sketch for review.

"ACAD Mechanical: For basic designs"

What do you like best?

ACAD is a great entry level basic CAD program. For simple, basic design concepts, ACAD is easy to use. Anyone who can turn on a computer can learn to use this program. ACAD has set itself as a staple in the design/engineering world. Everything is compared to this program. ACAD Mechanical has a few extra features than basic ACAD. Since it's been around forever, you can always find support or how-to videos out there on the web.

What do you dislike?

It is difficult to do complex designs or package designs. ACAD is, for lack of better words, a dumb program. Other programs such as Inventor and Solidworks, are smarter, easier to manipulate, and have better design platform. As far as ACAD Mechanical, I don't ever use the "mechanical" features. ACAD Basic would work fine in most cases.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I'd never recommend ACAD for 3d modeling! I'd recommend ACAD for basic "box" shaped designs, nothing complex, or for piping, instrumentation or electrical diagrams only!

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

ACAD has a very important role in this industry. It's hard to find a company who is not using it to some extent.

"Great for 2D sketches and simple drawings"

What do you like best?

I like being able to draw any object without having to close a loop of line segments. In many similar programs, the lines are only used as borders of a area, and so if the area is not complete, the programs has problems. With AutoCAD, a line is simply a line. I also like being able to customize the plot settings and appearance of every characteristic using layers and line weights. This allows for quick but uniform and professional final prints.

What do you dislike?

AutoCAD in 3D is very primitive. Compared to most 3D solid modeling programs, AutoCAD is clearly not intended to be viewed outside of a top-down drawing. Many commands are hard to figure out, but once the interface is learned or the text commands are learned, AutoCAD becomes fluid and efficient.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If only 2D plots are necessary, AutoCAD Mechanical is the obvious choice. It's essentially board drafting with a screen.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I used this primarily developing part prints for preliminary review for a client. During that stage of development, only simple sketches are necessary, and those can be developed quickly using AutoCAD and the result is visually appealing.

"AutoCAD Mechanical Review"

What do you like best?

The quick key commands and the ability to do 2D drafting or 3D modeling makes the software nice.

What do you dislike?

The amount of tools. Less tools, but with more options would make the software easier to use.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I don't like the new improvement with the dimensioning. One dimension tool should do all the different type of dimensioning you need. There is a bug with having Adobe Photoshop open and AutoCAD mechanical, it is very annoying because when I have that program open the escape key doesn't work.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Exporting and Importing is essential when interfacing with other software such as Adobe Illustrator or Inventor.

"Amazing product"

What do you like best?

I use this everyday at my internship this summer. It makes sketches 100x easier than pen and paper would. Editing, modifying, and creating designs is extremely easy with this.

What do you dislike?

I do not think it should be its own software. As in traditional 2D autocad has essentially this same functions as this, minus a few built in libraries. It is ridiculous to have to pay for Mechanical, Electrical, and Architecture separately.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I prefer the command line vs the traditional buttons. Easily my favorite part of the software. Almost entirely eliminates the learning curve of memorizing every button location.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We design layouts used if everyday machining, as well as assembly.

"Powerfull cad"

What do you like best?

Integration with all other autodesk software. This sofware has all of the inbuilt standard components used in manufacturing

What do you dislike?

There is no cam software for 2d drawings. User must use inventor hsm to program cnc machine tools

Recommendations to others considering the product

It is the only software manufacturing companies should be using. It translates everything form other cad software.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Tool and die building, debugging, and repairs. Product design and engineering changes

"IT s a great tool used mostly by manufacturing plants mechanical engineer and building system design"

What do you like best?

It is mechanical discipline specific and thus you get lot more features to do in depth mechanical design. It comes with lot of extra features to make your mechanical design look nicer.

What do you dislike?

Since it is mechanical specific you can not do some electrical design or plumbing design on it even if you need to do it. You will have to buy another piece of software to do those designs. More often than not, we need both plumbing and electrical in order to do complete design.

Recommendations to others considering the product

You may like the extra features for mechanical that comes with this software.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Building design

"Best for 2D Layouts "

What do you like best?

A very good and vast design library, can easily find blocks and patterns as per your choice and need.

What do you dislike?

There is a lack of gesture features compared to other software's in the market. One has to remember commands to be more fast and efficient.

Recommendations to others considering the product

You can consider AutoCAD Mechanical for working with 2D layouts, as it is still the best software out there to get things done for the same. Just need little practice and effort in the beginning.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I have used AutoCAD Mechanical for design MEP systems of buildings. As I have to design on top of architectural drawings, its easy to modify drawings as most of the architects use AutoCAD too thus helped me in getting a good start.

"Excellent drafting tool"

What do you like best?

AutoCAD Mechanical design and drafting software is AutoCAD software for manufacturing. It includes all the functionality of AutoCAD, one of the world’s leading 2D CAD mechanical design software applications, plus libraries of standards-based parts and tools for automating common mechanical CAD tasks and accelerating the mechanical design process.

What do you dislike?

While installing AutoCAD 2014, an error message displaying: "The system cannot open the device or file specified" with file directory location occurs, resulting termination of installation. What might be the easiest solution for this problem? The mentioned file "AutoDesk ReCAP is present in the mentioned directory. But, error says it is absent. Ive attached the error message if helpful.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I have just a single Mechanical File that the power dimenisioning soenst seem to work, this file is a file that was imported from another CAD program and when I pull the File up in AutoCAD the dimensions work just fine I have attached a Video of what it is doing that should help explain the issue.

"AutoCAD Mechanical review"

What do you like best?

Great software it is, our engineering and development department uses it a lot and they are very much happy with its features. If i am not wrong it has to app one was mechanical desktop and the other was autocad. In my opinion both are work great. when i was on that deptt. I learn only 1 command of "extrude" in it and then i was shifted to IT department. hahahaahahah

What do you dislike?

Not as strong as compared to SolidWorks and ProE.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Consider taking a training course if not familiar with ribbon interfaces.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Program is being used for process related three dimensional sketching and design. Ribbons are helpful and speed up drafting procedures.

"AutoCAD Review"

What do you like best?

I been using AutoCAD since 1999 and in my opinion it is one of most user friendly software in design world. I was taught how to use AutoCAD 14, and I have no problem operating any other version since CAD 14. It is a great drafting tool for both design and engineering.

What do you dislike?

AutoCAD is mainly for drafting and design, it is not an ideal tool to create 3D model and assembly. Although AutoCAD have 3D model capability but it's very limited. SolidWorks and Pro/Engineering are two better softwares for 3D modeling and assemblies.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It is easy to learn and once mastered basic commands rest will be easy. It is also very popular in many different industries. I have yet know a company in my industry does machining or manufacturing without CAD operator.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I use AutoCAD for manufacturing support and initial concept design, CAD drawings are easy to modify.

What do you like best?

AutoCad Mechanical interface is clear and easy to use, Software is fairly stable and quick in processing data.

What do you dislike?

Recently I have been updating company's sheet template and ran in to issue related to sheet set manager and sheet attributes.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Using AutoCad Sheet Set Manager reduced .dwg files management in my company. It is easy to share .dwg files with outside company mainly because most of the architects and manufacturing company's using AutoCad.

What do you like best?

The tie in with our existing automation tools. Sheet sets and integration with other Autodesk tools.

What do you dislike?

It is slow and hasn't changed much over the years. It is expensive.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you are an AutoCad user looking for a cheaper alternative and don't have a library of automation scripts to run AutoCad, check out Draftsight. It is much cheaper and has most of the functionality of AutoCad.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Shop drawings, drawing reviews, automation/repetitive tasks.

"It's a good program for initial drawings and layouts."

What do you like best?

I like the fact that it is an accurate tool for making initial layouts as well as somewhat complicated machinery and components.

What do you dislike?

It's easy to fake things in 2d and can get frustrating at times if trying to edit a drawing someone else has not done accuately. Also, I think that the 2d package isn't good for everything, like where tight tolerances are concerned. It's much easier to see interferences in 3d.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Great for wiring and electrical use. We use it quite often for certified drawings for customer approval. It's simple for them to see everything they need in one accurate layout.

"This is THE 2D CAD solution"

What do you like best?

Years and years of being the best at what it is designed for.

What do you dislike?

The Price can be a bit high. The newer version makes it too complicated to find command buttons.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I recommend find instructions to get the older UI, so all the command buttons are under 1 ribbon instead of multiples tabs.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We mostly use this program now for P&ID drawings.

"AutoCAD Mechanical"

What do you like best?

A layer standard is seamless employed - much easier to get users to abide by the standard. Efficient means of creating details and use of symbols. Easy Bill of Material creation.

What do you dislike?

What I don't like about this product is twofold... One, not enough companies in the mechanical/manufacturing arena are using it. Two, many companies have it, but are using it as "plain, vanilla" AutoCAD - they are not using the Mechanical features!

Recommendations to others considering the product

Get training! You are adopting a complex product with many features - learn how to use those features properly. Do not just hope to stumble across them.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Standardization and consistency. When used properly multiple users should create the same output - this looks good to customers - one drawing in a set does not look better or worse than the others.
