"Una herramienta excelente para trabajo detallado y comunitario"

What do you like best?

What do you dislike?

Es bastante complejo de utilizar para personas que no tienen experiencia con CAD u otros programas de dibujo, al principio me costó muchísimo adaptarme, son demasiadas opciones y herramientas, y me parece que la interfase de impresión es realmente compleja y poco amigable.

Recommendations to others considering the product

El programa es realmente sorprendente y poderoso, pueden realizarse millones de cosas con él, pero debe poseerse una formación previa en el manejo de CAD porque sino se complica enormemente el uso y la aplicación del software.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

"Program of design of plans and objects of precision and professional quality ideal for projects"

What do you like best?

Autocad is a tool that all the engineering staff of the industrial complex must use to prepare the distribution of the machinery and the remodeling of the sheds, because it has a set of options that facilitate the design of the plan or building in three dimensions.I am very pleased with the precision of your designs, has a set of work tools very well thought out and designed so that the professional has the ability to design plans and buildings with their respective distribution and accessories, as well as, in three dimensions with a level of detail that facilitates showing each element that make up the construction, the planning of the organized execution process, and the modification at the time that is necessary. Being very important for the company and for me because it allows to be more efficient at work saving time jobs, and even hiring new professionals that represent expenses that can be used in other activities.

I really like the final presentation of the design because the tool offers me a set of options to work in the preview, since it allows me to design with different tools for the elaboration of the frame, the legend, the numerical or graphic scale, titles or subtitles of the cartography, and even insert images or maps according to the need.

Personally I consider that no market program has the ability to compete with the tools offered by autocad for two or three dimensional design, because autocad has many tools that allow us to design each element that makes up the object accurately, well delineated, with the background desired and color that we consider. In addition, it offers options for each element to be grouped, joined or cut in the shape and angle that we want.

What do you dislike?

Autocad is a wonderful program with many work options, but you should look for ways to facilitate the use of its tools because they are very complex, require hours for learning or assistance in educational training activities so that we can use it according to the professional levels necessary for purposes that the designs are what we want to project.

For example, it is very difficult to use correctly the tools for the application of a rendering or video of the three-dimensional design, because they are not easy to work and also requires a computer with an excellent capacity for these tools to be executed correctly

Recommendations to others considering the product

I suggest to new clients to start a staff training process on the tools that the company requires its professionals to be experts and highly capable of designing excellently.

I suggest that in the process of evaluating preliminary designs use other programs easier to use, while autocad use it for the final design of the project because it has work options to improve quality, accuracy and diverse.

I recommend you to learn each tool for design in three dimensions, because it would allow you to create excellent jobs that will facilitate the process of project execution, improving times and consequently the profitability of the company and the welfare of workers

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It has allowed me to grow professionally, because thanks to the tools of the program I can observe the projection of the work and observe better the sequence of activities necessary for the construction of the building.

It has helped me in various projects and every day I learn more about the tools, which allows me to say that Autocad is the best professional quality engineering and architecture program for the design of plans and projections of buildings or houses in three dimensions.

What General-Purpose CAD solution do you use?

Thanks for letting us know!

"A versatile drafting program for a variety of needs"

What do you like best?

AutoCAD can have a variety of detail levels, from simple stick line drawings to full detail wireframe 3D models. Because of the wide array of drawing tools in the program, it can be easy to draw details of anything needed for projects.

What do you dislike?

It's not a very smart program. Anything drawn requires a lot of editing to get to the level of detail needed, and anything that has to be changed or moved later basically requires drawing the lines all over again and editing those for the new changes. The 3D modeling available isn't very intuitive either, and can still suffer from the same lack of a smart system for moving and editing what's been drawn.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Because AutoCAD is primarily a line drawing software, it will require editing and redrawing to get exactly what you want from it. But it's simpler and easier to jump in to, and will be more cost effective for smaller projects or customers with smaller budgets.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

AutoCAD has been in use for years, the level of detail shown in the drawings improving as the software gained more capability. It can be great for small drawings that need to be done very fast. It is also still the preferred program for making details to be used even in Revit projects because of the ease of creating detailed 2D drawings.

"A great option for community work and plans"

What do you like best?

AutoCAD brings the opportunity to work with plans with a high level of details you can even see the sidewalks and threes, so in the work the I do with the community with can work a lots of details to improve the quality of life of the residents. In recent field worl using plans of AutoCAD with can determined where are the sidewalks in poor condition and the trees that the municipilaty has to trimming, we can also determine where the municipality has to paint the streets and put new road signs. This software is awesome, because we can build maps and plans in multiple scales, to see and analyze the problem of the community from many points of view.

What do you dislike?

It is very hard to work with it if you are not an architect or engineer, the software has so many options and feature, I do a basic course and only use simple tools, like print, layout, design basic plans, add easy measures and add annotations, unfortunately, the software it is so expensive and I have to learn direct in the municipality I did not have the change to buy the software and learn on my own.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It is an amazing software but you if you are not a professional of design or a similar occupation you have to do first a course or introduction to get the most of the software, or you only will use the software to do simple things like me.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The municipality and my community make a great work together to diagnostic specific problems in my urbanization, so using AutoCAD with can analyze with high precision and details where are the main problems and where we have to start working to solve, and like the software work with high level of details we can set the problems even in sidewalks, buildings and trees and that was so useful for us, because the work is defined in a very specific way.

"Autocad, a program for drawing and modeling"

What do you like best?

Autocad allows you to draw architectural and urban planning plans quite easily when the program is already known, for basic learning there are no difficulties, but in an intensive 3 hours following an exercise example you can learn the use of high speed tools. It allows to have an accurate handling of the 2D drawing if the program is well used, obtaining the representation of proposals of pieces and even urbanisms. The more knowledge you have about the program, the greater the skill with which you can make the drawings and the use of simplified commands increases the speed of the use of the tools.

What do you dislike?

The main conflicts that the program has in my case is the change of the quick commands when the program is used in another language, for example, the use of CAD in English and then in Spanish; this forces the user to relearn the commands for a quick use of the program or to depend on the icons and tabs to achieve the desired functions. This is compounded by the conflicts that the program presents with the applications of the hatch, which causes the file to increase considerably in weight and produce errors, possibly even a "fatal error"

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Autocad at this time is the main program of use in the office for the preparation of planimetry of the projects, as much of the buildings as of the urban projects. This being used by most of the employees who must work in the area of architecture, urbanism, geographical location and planning representation.

"Es un software que permite desarrollar mejor las ideas de la ingeniería "

What do you like best?

What do you dislike?

Recommendations to others considering the product

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

"Drawing to AutoCAD"

What do you like best?

This software is the use for drafting and every drawing to need a draft. And another feauture is to import file and this file get a picture and trace out that picture and drawing. AutoCAD is a computer-aided software drafting program. It is used for a number of applications like creating blueprints for buildings, bridges and computer chips to name a few. AutoCAD is 2D and 3D computer aided drafting software application.

What do you dislike?

This software can not use to 3D modeling . It software upadrade are require.and other . And rendering Process almost equal to other software but user get very fast rendering.Errors in AutoCAD can be divided into two broad categories, the error related to the CAD file and error related to the Software itself. If the issues are related to corrupt CAD files then you can easily repair corrupt AutoCAD drawings using simple AutoCAD commands. ...

Recommendations to others considering the product

Which are use to drafting for best and not useful for 3D modeling.

"AutoCAD in the architectural Field"

What do you like best?

There's just nothing with this software that I don't like. Is being a long way since the first AutoCAD came out to the market and there has being a lot of improvement on its interface. With that being said, AutoCAD has positioned itself as the most common use software in the architectural field. All the tools that AutoCAD provide to its users are just easy to use and they explain step by step all you have to do in the command bar. This is one of the daily software I use since I was in school. What I like the most of AutoCAD I guess is the compatibility with the other Autodesk software and the possibility to create 3D models in a very accurate way. Its compatibility property makes AutoCAD a must have software because you can definitely use it at the very beginning of the project or just at the end, almost on every phase of any architectural project. Also, one thing to note is that almost everything you do in AutoCAD can be accomplished in 10 different ways, giving AutoCAD a lot more of use and knowledge for the user. In simple words, I highly recommend Autodesk AutoCAD to anyone who is in the design field, wheater you're an architect, industrial designer, or any other design related profession, AutoCAD is a good software to have, and know.

What do you dislike?

Nothing, everything is just perfect with this software, the only thing I would just say is the performance and compatibility with RAM and the memory you need free on your computer. Also, the updates from Autodesk are a little tedious and can slow down your performance but you then only need to downgrade your service packs and problem fixed.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Just buy it and learn it, it is a must have software

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It is a huge advantage to have AutoCAD in the architectural field because you do almost everything on the computer and just sketching ideas by hand

"good app"

What do you like best?

Autocad is a good app to make plans. Is a useful tool when you ned to work in the area. It has simples ways to handle and very people knows it. The fact that's is a common tool for many people, autocad achieve to make a generic app for everyone

What do you dislike?

it crashes all the time and I lose work and have to do it all over again. Also the fact that is a basic app for many people, to work in more specific subjects, autocad is too simple, and there are other apps that can provide other new an advance tools.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I loved that they offer the free educational version. If you're a student I would recommend to get familiar with the tool while this option is available.

"AutoCAD, the best help to architectural students"

What do you like best?

Everything on this software is almost perfect! Actually this software is the BASIC tool to start on the CAD and BIM world -to me-, because is the most extended globally and in any country yo go to make any kind of work, AutoCAD will be present. Another thing that is important to me is that I can use it to make another kind of works like vector images to another fields like publishing if i don't have on the hand the specific software and tools to do it.

What do you dislike?

Frankly, the only thing that I dislike is that the software doesn't has more features and have to use with others like Revit to have a very complete biulding design level... Although, that would be actually a good way to improve the workflow between both softwares.

Recommendations to others considering the product

This software is simply great and amazing. It has allowed me to learn year after year and be more productive on its use and on the things that one can do when using it, and another plus is that once you've learned how to use it on one version, the next ones are easy to learn and use quickly.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

As a student, this software was the solution that I was asking for, it lets you be more quicker and productive in the process to draft and draw architetural plans and anything you want to draw on vectors. As a professional, it lets me be productive, generate the needed documentation to any type of building that I have to manage on its process and... It's the well-known software by almost everyone on the field.

"Architect's old friend"

What do you like best?

It's efficient, simple and widely used among other disciplines in the industry. I appreciate that Autodesk offered free education version which helps graduated students to catch up faster in their professional life. It's easy to learn and satisfied most of the tasks that I required Autocad to do.

What do you dislike?

Can't seem to tell the difference between each upgrade. Hatch is still pretty bad and sometimes printed funny. Sometimes I still relies on lisps to resolve my issues. Feel like AutoCAD is a bit stagnant while Revit is catching up so fast. Stilll experiencing mild hiccups in editing blocks and switching paper space.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It's still a stable for every architecture firm despite the updates are not particularly great. Before BIM software takes over, AutoCad is still a must-have for every architecture firms (at least in Europe & UK market)

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It's an industrial standard software. It's important in doing quick draft and communication with other construction disciplines.

"The best architectural documentation software"

What do you like best?

AutoCAD has been the mainstay for AEC professionals for a reason, it is precise, powerful and (with training) intuitive to use. Now, you can even access all of your projects from mobile devices (it's not a great interface, but helps when in the field).

What do you dislike?

Autodesk does tend to make changes to make things more "user-friendly", but it just makes the package heavier and slower. For power-users that use key inputs instead of pull-downs, this is a negative change, but really minor.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Forget considering the other software options because they are less expensive. AutoCAD is the best, and the most used (so easiest transfer/collaboration).

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I am using AutoCAD for interior/architectural design and product design. The core software is fantastic, but can, also, be supplemented to suit your exact need with additional packages.

"Auto ad is a great tool, but could be a lot better if 3D modeling was more user friendly "

What do you like best?

I love 2d drafting and the presicion one can achieve in autocad. Layer management has improved over the years. Many of the new selection tools on the current versions of autocad make them very resourceful when receiving files that have not been layered properly.

What do you dislike?

I really dislike the hatch processing. It is slow and unresponsive at times. Most times it makes my sister crash. Other features a I dislike or lack of features is how un editable 3D objects are. I feel like once I create it I have to stick with it.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Autocad is a pricey software that has a lot of benefits that will help your business grow

What do you like best?

Es eficiente y simple. Es fácil de aprender sin necesidad de gastar en hacer un curso para manejar el programa, Es bueno para el trabajo de línea simple y el texto

What do you dislike?

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

"AutoCAD is the gold standard of CADD software"

What do you like best?

Autodesk has been around for over 30 years and they continue to innovate with new features and improve the user experience. If you're familiar with AutoCAD, then the navigation is straightforward enough and the use of hotkeys is the fastest way to navigate the software. The sheet set manager integration is by far my favourite feature as we have users in several offices with cloud storage, and we can see who is accessing each file to avoid conflicts and lost edits.

What do you dislike?

It can crash at random times or hangup on large files. Due to the complexity of CADD work, it can slow down and/or be a large resource consumer on a computer. Manipulating referenced files can be a bit cumbersome and I feel that there could be some improvement in terms of the XREF commands and menu.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Autodesk changing their pricing model to an annual subscription based service. This increase the cost considerably compared to perpertual licensing.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Our core business in mechanical design, and AutoCAD allows us to deliver high quality drawing production efficiently. We are able to import files that other designers have created, regardless of their software program used, which is one of the biggest hurdles that companies often have to overcome. The ability to save to older formats and export to several files types is also a considerable time saver for us as a company. We also have found that plugin integration has saved us time as well.

"Best 2D and 3D drawing software for engineering"

What do you like best?

I love how easy is to work with autocad when you get the hang of all the comands it offers (but you will use some common comands mostly so this shouldn't be an issue at first). There are so many options the software offers that working by hand is completely forgotten. The option of creating 3D models from the 2D drawings makes autocad an incredibly powerful tool.

What do you dislike?

Learning and mastering autocad at first is really overwhelming since it requires you master a vast amount of comands, so you will frequently find yourself with a clip note with the most common comands until you get the hang of it. Also is worth noting that working with autocad optimaly requires lots of computer power and it can really heat your device.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I recommend that you have lots of patience, is hard to master, but once you get the hang of it it's extremely rewarding

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Autocad has helped us design buildings for gas supply for several communities, by using it for electrical, civil and mechanical engineering drawings. Also we have used it for piping and instrumentation diagrams updating in several of the largest oil processing plants of Venezuela, so it has represented a great profit for our business

"Easy to use 2D drawing tool. "

What do you like best?

The Autodesk user interface is easy to use and navigate for novices. It is similar to other Autodesk programmes, such as Revit, so multi-tasking is made easy. It is possible to coordinate many drawings by linking them together, so they can be updated to align with one another.

AutoCAD is a very accurate drafting programme, enabling lines to be drawn to minute accuracy. This is one advantage over Revit, which feels less accurate.

What do you dislike?

The keyboard shortcuts are not the same as those for Revit. This can get confusing when using multiple programmes.

I have not found the 3D drawing capability easy to use, so I prefer to use Revit for 3D work. The ability to combine multiple tasks in one programme, such as 2D drawings, 3D renderings, and schedules, is desirable as an architect when efficiency and coordination is key. AutoCAD falls down at this, as it does not have these multiple functions, like Revit does.

Recommendations to others considering the product

AutoCAD is a good entry-level CAD drawing programme, which I find is primarily good for 2D drawings. If you are looking for a more comprehensive programme that reflects actual construction of buildings (such as wall build-ups and floor plates), I would perhaps consider using BIM such as Revit. This is a 3D programme, but it can also be used in 2D.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It is used as a programme for drawing architectural plans, sections, elevations and details, in order to present proposals to clients, and prepare drawings to give to contractors.

"AutoCAD Review"

What do you like best?

I like that you are able to easily find an answer to any question due to the large AutoCAD community forum. Also, the command hot keys that you can use to help you find a specific tool without searching through the tool bar

What do you dislike?

Some times the viewports are hard to control or edit and the snap/grid function will often turn on which makes editing drawings difficult.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Take a tutorial before using the software, it really helps to understand the basics of the program before jumping into it. Also the AutoCAD Community forum is very helpful for solving almost any issue.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We use it for building floor plans and to easily mark where issues are inside a building and around a building or on a property. We really like the Bing Maps Geo locate option which scales everything and allow for accurate placement of our drawings.

"Best CAD software out there for architects"

What do you like best?

The best part of AutoCAD is being able to do practically anything without interface. You're able to run all the commands just by typing them. It's customizable, lightweight, easy to get started (with a lot of tips for beginners).

What do you dislike?

There's pretty much nothing that I don't like about AutoCAD. I think it would be better if it had integrated support for rendering software such as Vray Corona etc. That'd help architects to do better renders without having to use third party software like 3DS Max or Maya.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you're looking for a professional software for architectural drawing, complicated modeling, AutoCAD is the best sofware out there for you. for architects it's preloaded with hatches, different furniture, trees, people, doors and windows etc. blocks that are just there for you to get started with ease. If you're a 3DS Max or Maya like software user than AutoCAD is ideal solution for you to draw buildings and other furniture with true sizes and proportions that are very hard to keep in other software.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I use AutoCAD for both architectural drafting and more complicated modeling. I almost always end up exporting it to 3DS Max or illustrator to finish up

"Good for everything!"

What do you like best?

AutoCAD is the classic tool that everyone uses and it's hard to work as a designer not knowing this program. Luckily, it's so easy to learn, and nothing in the program is really hard to work around. I was introduced to this program in school and have not stopped using it for 5 years now, as there is no architectural drawing tool that tops this one. The shortcut keys are so easy to memorize as they are very self-explanatory. I don't think I've forgotten how to do anything since I first learned it, as it's all so user friendly.

What do you dislike?

I don't really like how this program runs on Macs - it's definitely a lot easier to use on a Windows. I can't even find some of the settings and tools I use regularly on Macs. Getting an outside company's CAD files can get a little tricky with the line weights when plotting and x-ref files, but I don't know how the programmer would work around that as that's probably something we as users need to work around.

Recommendations to others considering the product

AutoCAD is definitely a program that all architects/designers need to know. I think it's kind of hard to go around not owning this program, but it's not expensive at all if you think about what it can do. It's student friendly so you will most likely have your first few years free! It's really great to get into as everything is explained (as a helping/assisting tool) and so easy to understand at first glance that you'll probably have no need to reach out to the support center. I really appreciate that files are always backed up in case my computer or the program suddenly shuts off on me.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It makes being consistent within the company really easy. I think usually companies have a standard that they use for all projects with all the layers, line weights, settings, layouts/sheets, etc... This program makes sharing this and making a CLEAN drawing set really easy and no hassle.

"Auto CAD electrical design engineer"

What do you like best?

The AutoCAD is very versatile and offers a number of drawing features thus making the drawing on your mind come to a true representation on the software. It is available in a bunch of different countries and languages baking it available to people from a diverse set of background easily. It also supports a bunch of different APIs for customization. A bunch of different softwares permit export as AutoCAD drawing files.

What do you dislike?

The localization of the software is available throughout the software as an entire package in only some countries. In a few others, the localization is limited to the support document alone. The AutoCAD permits export as a third party extension such as pdf. A bunch of different softwares permit export as AutoCAD drawing however the exported files accuracy is distorted. "AutoCAD continues to impress"

What do you like best?

Unlike most programs, AutoCAD has not slowed down with bloat over the years. There have been minimal improvements I've noticed over the years, mostly because I assume these are in features I do not use.

What do you dislike?

Handling of images can be messy when using an xref vs. an OLED object. The stock settings are clumsy. The dynamic input has some lag so that if you hit enter too quickly, it misses the last letter of your command. The text editor is also very sloppy and doesn't handle extra line spacing with numbered/lettered lists.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Highly customizable product. Recommend having someone to work on customization.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

This is the primary product we use for our drawing production.

"AutoCAD Review"

What do you like best?

I like that I am able to make scaled drawings for official building documents. I like that the files can be shared between various members on a team so that everyone can work on the files. Also, a great feature is that the files can be linked together so that there is no need to go back and make changes to every single file.

What do you dislike?

I do not like that I cannot render well through AutoCAD, which forces me to use other software. I know AutoCAD has a 3D modeling feature, but I find it hard to control and use. I was taught to use AutoCAD 2D system and use other 3D modeling software in my school's program. Also, the annotation feature is great and practical, but it is difficult to control and manage.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I would recommend that they use AutoCAD for collaboration with coworkers and to complete scaled drawings, but to use another software for 3D work. Also, they should make sure that their computer Memory can tolerate the amount of Memory that AutoCAD uses. I've run into problems with my computer not being compatible to use AutoCAD although I had 16GB of Memory.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I complete official, scaled plans, sections, and details for my architectural drawings that get sent to the building department for approval. It is an efficient way to complete these drawings in a short amount of time. I also use it to collaborate with my coworkers about various space dimensions and proportions. It is also a great way to set graphic standards for the office so drawings are consistent and cohesive.

"Essential tool for today's standards"

What do you like best?

A better way to ask your question is. "What is there not to like?" would be a better way to phrase the question ! I love everything about it, cause it's what has made me or has defined my career. There are many great things about AutoCAD and here is one of many example. There are several ways to get from point A to point B, that's left up to you to work on or figure out the most effective and efficient way to achieve your outcome. But there are no wrong ways and this is what I love very much.

What do you dislike?

No dislikes and I've been running AutoCAD for some time now and never any real problem that couldn't be figured out or to work around. Every software has it's pros and cons, the only cons are when the new release come out, but usually they are already working on a fix.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I would highly recommend this software to anyone in the designing field, especially architectural, engineering or surveying field.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

In today's electronic world everything is computer software driven and AutoCAD is the standard and essential software from basic to complex design projects in any drafting type career that you can find. The facts shows it to be an easy to learn program for most and it can handle nearly any and all complex projects with its many functional, unique and customizable tools and settings. This is a standard software in the engineering and architectural field of which I serve and with it projects are done much more efficiently, saving both your company and their client a lot of time and money. There are many benefits to using AutoCAD, and for many students are being taught AutoCAD as the industry standard software, along with a large amount of training and other informative tutorials out there by means of blogs, CAD forums, and youtube.

"Industry Standard CAD"

What do you like best?

The compatibility of this software may be the best feature - since it is an industry standard, most people who would know what to do with a CAD file would be able to use these files.

And now that it is available for MAC/apple users - back in the day, I used to swap between mac and PC just for Autocad, which left me hitting esc, command & control on the wrong platform.

The layers are great and being able to set the scale are also big pluses.

What do you dislike?

The ugly factor. CAD drawings can be blah. For something more enticing for a client who can't read a standard drafting plan, there are other options to make it more graphic looking and flashy.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I have used a wide variety of CAD programs, from VersaCAD, to CADkey, to AutoCAD. This is the best of the bunch, but I will admit, that the older versions (like through AutoCAD 13) were much easier to pick-up (and teach)

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Details for manufacturers to produce, for contractors to install or build, and for towns/cities to approve permits.

"Not worth it"

What do you like best?

I liked that I was able to quickly find a software to view some building plans that were e-mailed to me that I wasn't able to view on my pc. I liked that the software downloaded quickly, offered a free trial and allowed me to view the plans without having to first purchase the software.

I also really like how easy it was to open a file in AutoCad; I received a file in e-mail and I selected Autocad to open the file with and within seconds I was viewing and editing the file. The file transfer was very easy.

Being a small business being able to have a free trial of a product is critical as I need to spend wisely and the free trial enabled me to make an informed decision about the software and the functions.

What do you dislike?

I disliked the number of different downloads that came with the software; a month after my free trial ended I'm still trying to remove all the different things that downloaded with the bundle. Also, while trying to remove the software my computer continuously froze.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Great product for designing buildings both inside and out; just be prepared for a headache when uninstalling the software as it will take a while and slow your network down if not freeze your network completely.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Autocad enabled me to view blueprints from my engineer who is designing a build-out of two commercial spaces for a property that I manage. I was able to see fine details of the plan by zooming in.

I needed to make a decision on the blueprints in a rush so being able to get a free trial of the software with a quick download met my need and enabled me to sign off on the blue prints.

"Mostly good, with a learning curve."

What do you like best?

The program is used widely among engineers and landscape architects. It is easy to work on projects across disciplines because of how common the program is.

What do you dislike?

The learning curve. Autocad is not necessarily intuitive as a program, and you are constantly learning new shortcuts and features years or decades after learning it. User experience is also not great (it can be very frustrating when things go wrong, and is often not easy to troubleshoot problems).

Recommendations to others considering the product

Use this for the ease of understanding a "language" that others in many varied fields use and work with daily. Be prepared for a learning curve necessary for more complex features.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Autocad is good for planting design work, especially when used in conjunction with landfx. It helps in calculating plant takeoffs etc. Great for both large-scale master planning and smaller detail design work. Overall project management is easy with sheet set manager features.

"AutoCAD Experience "

What do you like best?

I have been using AutoCAD since Dec 2014 for education and professional work. AutoCAD has lot of tools that makes drafting easy and fast. It has got various line type which is the most exciting stuff for electrical work.

What do you dislike?

One thing I don't like about AutoCAD is it doesn't give selection of various electrical equipment like Revit does. It is good for instrumentation and control but not really for electrical.

Recommendations to others considering the product

AutoCAD is user-friendly software. It is really easy to use when it comes to non-technical stuff. If you're working with core technical concepts, I wouldn't recommend this software but if you just want to put information on drawing and just want to create basic site plan or any other background, I would recommend to go with this software.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I am using AutoCAD to develop electrical site plans and electrical one-line diagrams. It is user-friendly software specially when it comes to electrical one-line diagram.

"Don't expect to use the product the day you buy it"

What do you like best?

The software its self is outstanding and don't have any complaints.

What do you dislike?

The licensing system. There registration and activation can't help you to active/register/Serial Number so you can use your software, you need to speak to customer care (who don't have a a phone number, have to wait for them to contact you). Customer care doesn't have to contact you the day you call they have given themselves a 24hr call back policy(some how they find that except able). So if you purchase the software don't expect to use it the same day or even the next (hope you don't mind spending hundreds or even thousands of dollars and not have direct contact with the help you need to use the software). If I could find a reliable drafting software that was an industry standard I would drop AutoCAD instantly even if I already paid for the subscription.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Don't purchase it if you expect to use it in the next day or two and expect to be treated by there customer service system like an unwanted stepchild. They will call you you can't call them hope you don't mind spending hundreds or thousands of dollars and being told that you can't wait for someone to help you they will call you back in there own sweet time.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

None they have now created problems by having such horrible customer service that I can't use the software after spending hundreds of dollars until they decide to call me!

"Helps visualize data on spreadsheets for better insight"

What do you like best?

When processing data, this is the best thing ever invented. It makes life so much easier. Instead of calculating the same formula for a series of data, I can use the drag down feature to calculate for every value. Obviously it has got a lot more features, I am ready to explore them all.

What do you dislike?

Some features like programming you need to match it exactly, otherwise it won't work. It can be quite frustrating if you know what you want to accomplish, you it gives you an error when you do it.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Yea, it's a lifesaver.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

"Very user friendly"

What do you like best?

I like that, compared to other similar products, autocad seems to make an effort to stay ahead of the curve when it comes to keeping a modern look and being intuitive to work with. The program always feels relatively quick, and solutions tend to be easy to find when issues do spring up every now and then.

What do you dislike?

I dislike when there are difficult errors with linking ex-referenced files, although this doesn't happen too often. Also, linking mapping can be different using geographical points. I feel as though this could be much more intuitive.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Make sure to keep up with online tutorials or advice forums for different issues you may have.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I use the program for layout designs of project sites. It helps a lot when it comes to pulling together multiple design files to see what impacts they have on natural resources.

"AutoCAD works really well"

What do you like best?

Great for beginners and experts alike, AUTOCAD/AUTODESK makes life easier to manage. The shortcuts make it quite easy to change and switch commands without moving the mouse every time. Viewports are convenient because you can choose what to show at what scale and in multiple views if you choose so.

What do you dislike?

The lagging when it comes to hatches, or the backup files are not very up to date. I wish there were more patterns as well for the hatches, but when it comes to the fundamental patterns used for soils, earth, rocks, grass, it'll do. Back up files usually are supposed to go to the spot you left off, but for this program sometimes the lagging starts earlier and you have no way of knowing until it freezes and shuts down automatically, losing a lot of progress as a result.

Recommendations to others considering the product

There are free trials for students, so take advantage of that while you can. it's actually quite helpful and beneficial to those of us that are in the major, because the costs don't have to be part of the rest of the programs we need in general.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Whenever there's an official drawing or document to be presented, I use AutoCAD to create the base for it all. The benefits is that AutoCAD can be use alongside with other people on the same team/partners. It's easy to share or do a read only format. Sends easily through email as long as file size is not too large.

" Great software with many self-explaining and useful tools"

What do you like best?

I really loved the fact that AutoCAD has many straightforward tools such as line, polyline, arc and circle that make the whole experience a lot easier and simplifies things for the user. Also, the help boxes that appear on the screen when you put the cursor on a tool are really enlightening and convenient.

What do you dislike?

The lack of 2 different viewports causes the user to not be able to lock/unlock all selected viewports using the lock button, when at least one of the vieports is locked and the rest of them are unlocked. Also, when editing a project, the positioning vertical marker is not displayed when the user tries to move a piece of text from one place to another.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Start using the basic tools (line, polyline, circle and arc) to build basic projects if you are not very experienced with AutoCAD. As you become more experienced with the software, you should try out the many unique features AutoCAD offer.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

In general, AutoCAD is an essential software for basic and complex project designing due to the fact that it is an easy to learn program and it handles well complex projects with its many unique tools.

"AutoCAD is the standard"

What do you like best?

Almost universal compatibility in our field, AutoCAD is by far the leader in CAD software. I have used other CAD packages and while a lot of the basic functions are all pretty much the same, the shear number of users and options really makes AutoCAD stand out. Furthermore, and perhaps I'm a bit old school about this... i really like using the command line to type in a lot of functions. A combination of typing and mousework makes a lot of my day to day work go a lot quicker.

What do you dislike?

Every year the manufacturer comes out with a new version, requiring a costly upgrade. I sometimes wonder if this is really necessary as the day to day functions don't really change. Also every new version includes a game i like to call "hide the functions i need".

Recommendations to others considering the product

You can try it before you buy it... take advantage!

"A CAD powerhouse!"

What do you like best?

AutoCAD is the most flexible, powerful CAD tool I've ever used. It has been around long enough to be the "standard" against everything else is compared.

What do you dislike?

It is so very complex, but that's to be expected for something with its longevity. The complexity can lead to a lot of confusion and frustration for a new user, but that's what the Help file and training is for, right?

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you're new to AutoCAD, or coming back to use it after a long while, GET TRAINING. The additions with each version aren't a huge number, but what they do add requires some advanced knowledge.

"Autocad at is best requires knowledge and a lot of practice."

What do you like best?

Autocad is a worldwide recognized standard for cad applications.

In architecture i have worked with different agencies and all our customers have requested Autocad files from me. It is a complete software that, nowaday, can be considered as "all-in-one" platform. It has from standard 2d drawing tools to 3d capabilities and even rendering output.

Last, it is extremely important to remember that Auttocad, as well as any other Autodesk software, is totally for free for students and teachers; without any limitations and 100% like commercial release!!!

What do you dislike?

"all in one" slo!utiln can result confusing, sometimes exspecially if ypu jse autocad only for 2d drawings....

Also last release of the software comes only for 64 bit operating systems... and this stops people to update their exsinting softwares.

It is the most reliable software available for drafting and I have used it along with every 3D software I have ever used. Any kind of designing work requires AutoCAD and it is the most user-friendly software. I have used it to draft drawings and electrical schematic diagrams.

What do you dislike?

"AutoCAD Review"

What do you like best?

AutoCAD quickly lets me get my ideas out since my hand drawing ability is lacking. I like that is also gives me a wide array of options as far as information I will need for technical drawings. I can be as accurate as I need to be when designing plans and sections in autoCAD. Its convenient to have all my measurements in one place as well.

What do you dislike?

AutoCAD can tend to lag at times. I also wish it had better 3D modeling capabilities. As of now I go from AutoCAD to Sketchup to rendering, however it would be nice to use AutoCAD for my 3D modeling and then just take it straight into a rendering software.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you are just starting out using AutoCAD. I'd suggest learning from someone who has been using it for a while. I learned from a guy who had been using it since the 80s or 90s so he was very good at keeping his hand on the mouse and on the keyboard. I've seen some students that learn AutoCAD are not using it to its fullest potential and that could end up being bad for the industry.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I am an Architect so I use AutoCAD to solve all my design problems. I have realized it helps me get my point across to my colleauges and clients. Lots of functions and commands to learn useful but also makes it hard to remember. File size is small and the computer requirements doesn't need to be too advance.

What do you dislike?

Too expensive and time consuming to use. If I have to modify any drawings it takes a long time to go through different pages and be aware of how each page affects it. parametric design would be nice. Commands will be hard to find, but I use the keyboard shortcuts to avoid that.

"The Industry Standard for a Reason"

What do you like best?

AutoCAD is a terrific and fast drafting program that truly has no equal.

What do you dislike?

Sometimes there are some very non-intuitive/hidden commands without other means of access for achieving certain functions—IMAGEFRAME for example, determining whether or not a linked in image would have a border around it or not. These are usually findable via a quick google search, though. Most often there turns out to be a hidden command that will do exactly what I need when I encounter a new challenge.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

"A Versatile Program"

What do you like best?

Autocad is one of the best tools for Building Information Modeling allowing it users to be versatile and work within the limitations of the real world while designing concepts that can only extend as far as the imagination (and client budget) can hold them back. I like the customization that is allowed with certain tools and styles.

What do you dislike?

It would be nice if the syntax and the syamantics of the wording of tools, or commands, and of logistics of the styles properties were easily managed without having to completely learn a whole new way of operating a program. If the style manager were to be intergrated with a different logic or syntax it would help in creating a system that has one integrated workflow.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Auto cad can be as simple or as advance as you wish to delve in, If you take the time to research the potential auto cad has, you can make drawings easier.

What do you like best?

Timeless, simple, layer management. The basic drawing functions keep it simple. Does not lag like revit (most of the time).

What do you dislike?

Archaic Text and leader interface. Absolutely way too time consuming to reorganize text, and leaders. leaders move 'randomly' after editing.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Focus has left on innovation of the AutoCAD platform, due to the shift in BIM Modeling. For veteran users of CAD, it is an essential. For Rookies, the basics of CAD are easy to grasp - However documentation standards should be more integrated, similar to Revit when you add text w/ or w/o a leader. A better way to segment "viewports" in model space.

What I found to dislike about AutoCad is the disconnect after a Mac data migration. I have recently found that AutoCad plot/print command does not fully transfer over even after installing the latest version. I have found it quite difficult to fix on your own without searching for outside help.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I would learn to use it as a basic program to have in your tool belt. It is not cutting edge nor works well with curvilinear based design like parametrics.. but if you are in the design and architecture field, this is a basic that is a must to know.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I am solving everyday design problems with AutoCad -- whether it is designing a custom built in accurately or creating a building plan. AutoCad has the benefits of designing down to the nitty gritty and helps solve plan problems before they arise on site.

"AutoCAD on Mac "

What do you like best?

Does not take up as much memory as the regular version. It's a friendly version for students who do not need the more powerful version.

What do you dislike?

Doesn't have toolbars typically found on the regular AutoCad. Sketching is more difficult because the toolbars are not accessible. Mac AutoCAD very would be difficult to use on a professional setting for more advanced sketches.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Mac version is good for students but not professionals.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Sketching floor plans, tools, home exteriors, and furniture.

"Uno de los programas mas extendidos para dibujar en CAD. Es el que siempre he utilizado"

What do you like best?

What do you dislike?

Si no se cuenta con un computador con buenas caracteristicas, puede llegar a resultar un poco pesado, sobretodo cuando se desea hacer pequeñas correcciones a algunos planos

Recommendations to others considering the product

Les recomiendo este software porque es uno de los mas extendido para el diseño de instalaciones, para dibujar planos y modelar en CAD piezas y diferentes componentes mecanicos

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

"A software that construction engineers can't do without"

What do you like best?

Simple to use, very easy to learn, has a lot of capabilities that combines many other software features into just one software and makes designing, editing or/and listing of quantities easy as ever. the shortcuts and commands bar has really made working with it much faster. It allows you to sketch up the best and most accurate architectural and construction drawings.

What do you dislike?

The options for editing dimensions needs to be more handy and quicker as its interference gets a little confusing and complicated sometimes.

It takes a lot of memory esp. in the 3D mode and requires a powerful computer to avoid slowing down the process.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you're a civil or an architectural engineer this is a software is a MUST-use.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

As a civil Engineering student and when working for my construction projects either in college or in training in a consultancy office, it's our default to draw and design the dimensions and reinforcement of our buildings. it's basically the main software we - Civil and Architecture Engineers - use in our work on daily basis.

"AutoCad - Mac and Windows"

What do you like best?

Without a doubt my favorite thing about AutoCAD is its versatility. I can draft everything from houses to individual sections and details in the same program and I know I can trust its accuracy.

What do you dislike?

AutoCAD comes with a very particular learning curve that makes it a little difficult to learn.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Consider getting formal training and attending a tech school or online program to obtain AutoCAD certification.

"It's okay. I prefer Inventor."

What do you like best?

You can't really compare inventor and auto ad because they are for different purposes, but the overall layout on here vs the layout on inventor are different and I prefer inventor's. AutoCAD is better in some things, like functionality when designing blueprints.

What do you dislike?

The program is a little hard to use every once in a while. The default white background and model wireframe mesh makes it difficult to use, but those settings can thankfully be changed. It's not very good when it comes to just making 3D printable objects for fun, it's more meant for industrial designs where everything is already planned out.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you can get a free trial, I suggest you try it just to see if you like it. It really depends on your personal preference.

"Decent Product"

What do you like best?

It has a lot of useful features and has a user friendly interface.

The sketch tools are easy to learn and use. Visualizing Solid models is pretty decent too.

What do you dislike?

It does not have all the features when compared to SOLIDWORKS and does lag behind.

Comparing it to Solidworks, it does not have all the functionality especially when it comes io simulations and animations.

Solidworks when compared to this is a more all in one solution.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I would recommend using Solidworks.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Have used AutoCAD as my first CAD learning software because of the ease of use.

"An everyday program in the office"

What do you like best?

While AutoCAD may seem intimidating at first, it is actually a very logically set up and self explanatory program that you can gain a basic understanding of in a day. My personal favorite is the ability to reference external AutoCAD drawings, or "XRef" which allows you to work on smaller parts of a whole design rather then one massive file that runs slowly. The ability to create "blocks" is also highly useful, as it allows you to create a standard symbol such as a logo/arrow/detail/etc that you can bring into any drawing you create without having to redraw the item over, which also allows for consistency throughout designs. Also, the different colors of lines correspond to different line weights when printed, allowing for the creation of clear and easy to read documents and good line hierarchy.

What do you dislike?

Troubleshooting problems on AutoCAD can be quite difficult, with even the most experienced users in the office being stumped. Also, this program has a habit of crashing quite regularly. The hatch tool in particular has some issues, and has great difficulty creating a hatch once there is deviation from a standard shape.

Recommendations to others considering the product

This program is a well established industry standard and allows for consistent information throughout a singular office or spread over many offices and locations. The program is easy enough for a new user to learn the basics quickly but also allows for users to become more advanced in creating custom work in the program, both 2D and 3D.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

AutoCAD provides a great, technical program for creating exact drafting design and construction documents. It provides a concise and legible way to display surveying information, utilities, existing conditions, etc., in a digital and printable format. AutoCAD documents can also be exported as PDFs and then rendered in programs such as Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop and allowing for the creation of clear graphics and documents for display or presentation.

"Not sure what you are looking for in this box"

What do you like best?

AutoCad is used as a necessity out of traditional experience- I am not sure what I like best, because I cannot compare it to another program such as Vectorworks.

Things I do like: sheetset manager and smart labeling in Civil3D (such as contours)

What do you dislike?

1. At least the way we are using it now - our details are not talking to each other. I would really like to see that when I make one change in one place, if that condition exists in another then it will also get updated.

2. The lack of compatibility with other non-autodesk programs, such as rhino and GIS. (sure there is some compatibility, but it could be better)

3. Glitches- the 'fatal error'; my wipeoutframe variable is defaulting to 1 instead of staying at 2 every time i close a drawing.

4. I can't Osnap to any point in a hatch, only to an end point. It would be really helpful to snap to the middle of a hatch pattern at times.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Again, it feels more like a necessity. We will slowly be moving in the direction of Revit. But that will take time (and $), until then we are dependent on traditional Cad.

"AutoCAD 2016"

What do you like best?

The ease to use and the updates make you more efficient and faster. It can be linked to any other Autodesk software as well as sketchup and all adobe suites. Easy to manipulate and make changes. Using Exref enables multiple users to work simultaneously and increase productivity. Over all the product is really efficient and enables you do manipulate design with ease

What do you dislike?

PDF to auto cad conversion is still in infancy stage would like to develop further and recognize different colors and line weights. The 3d format in AutoCAD could be improved to provide better material library. Also the inclusion of natural light intensity and other aspects with reference to geo positioning would help design better. This would help understand the site better and give better design solutions. Designs are being done globally so this inclusion could help an designer sit anywhere in the world and understand his/her site.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If autocad could introduce better setting for 3d that would be better.

More importantly i would prefer if the transition of useage to Revit from Autocad was bit easier as I am a user of Auto for over 10 Yrs and a beginner in Revit. It is really difficult for transition as the short keys are completely different and confusing.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I am a consultant and a designer so my practice at present requires me to solve urban planning related problems and with the combination of ArcGIS and Autocad it gives me easy access to site details and lot sizes etc.

"Good Drafting tool for Engineers and Planners"

What do you like best?

I mostly use Auto Cad to draw plans of cities and detailing of transport infrastructure. The following features I found the most useful:

1) Ease of Use

2) Ability to create large and different shaped sheets

Its best to begin the house drawings and utility drawings. I started using AutoCAd as a student for City plans. Using Google maps, we used to trace the maps on AutoCad during college. It is almost accurate and helped a lot in class projects. During work, AutoCad was clubbed with GIS to create maps for city plans.

What do you dislike?

While working on big sheets, the window gets hung. Also Cad does not have good design features. Have to use Photoshop to make the sheets look better.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Use:Great for drafting building designs and road plans. Flexible with editing and ease of use. Basic design features available. Overall Good.

Tools:It offers wide tools for hatching, coloring, texting and other uses. Learn all the tools to maximize use.

How: I learnt it all on my own. Easy to learn on your own. Will be able to master in a weak or two.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I use it to draft plans for Masterplans and Tourism Plans. Also for infrastructure road projects and utility projects.

What do you like best?

AutoCAD has really met my needs for experimental design and is simple to learn how to use. I create Si wafers for microfluidic devices using this software. I also use it for macro devices for laser cutting. It's very easy to use AutoCAD for precise designs.

What do you dislike?

There's nothing much to dislike about AutoCAD other than that on some laser cutters I have to convert files to an old dxf file type in order to print.

Recommendations to others considering the product

"Autocad plant layout"

What do you like best?

Easy to show designs and make plant layouts.

What do you dislike?

Changes frequently and have to relearn icons

Recommendations to others considering the product

AutoCAD is easy to use and I recommend taking a training course online or in the classroom. It is better than most viewers and easier to get the information you need. Each year a new version comes out so you have to stay on top of the latest versions. Using AutoCAD vs. AutoCAD Mechanical is easier for a beginner. You need a workstation to use the software or it may crash frequently. The newer versions seem to use more memory. Depending on how many users you have you may want to buy a few licenses and then the users can share the license. Only 1 person per license at a time. This way you do not need to buy a license for each person.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Plant layouts, getting dimensions from parts, getting angles for inclines on paintlines.

"Simple tool to design in 2D and 3D"

What do you like best?

Autocad was the first Autodesk software that I have learned. It is also the most popular CAD software between students and Architecture professionals in my country and in the world. As an Architecture student I use many Autodesk softwares together for design phases of my projects but, I still use it to design fast plans or construction details. I like to start my plans and primary design studies using Autocad as a drafting tool. I also use it when I need to design plans in a short time. The interface is easy to use and it save paper.

What do you dislike?

I would prefer BIM technology instead of CAD because I can aggregate more information in the model and easily make modifications on the file (saving more time than using Autocad). I only use Autocad as complement never as a main tool.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you need a draft tool with easy interface to use, Autocad software is a good choice. You can use it do design plans, sections and you can do it really fast when you get familiarized with the commands. There is also a lot of sources and blocks available to download online to help you with your design, making you save time. It is the most popular CAD tool in the world and you can use it to design your plans with easy accuracy.

"AutoCAD from a Microstation point of view"

What do you like best?

I like the ease and quickness of the keyboard shortcuts, and how I can remap them to any keystroke I desire. I think annotative text and dimensions have been implemented properly, with the ability to place text/dimensions in a different location per scale. This makes this tool useful for drawing production. The best part about AutoCAD are the dynamic blocks. The ability of these blocks to redraw themselves on the fly through entered dimensions or from a drop down menu selection are major time savers.

What do you dislike?

The loading time on the software is terribly slow, especially in comparison to Microstation. Files with a large amount of linework also function extremely slowly compared to Microstation. My largest dislike however, is how limited AutoCAD is when working with Xrefs. Microstation allows the user to treat Xrefs like elements inside the active file allowing for very quick and easy manipulation of drawings. Ncopy is a terribly slow and limited way of bringing information into a drawing from Xrefs.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Reduce loading times and operation of large DWG files.

Look at the functionality in Microstation's Reference Manager, bring that into Xref Manager.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

This is a very standard piece of software for creating engineering drawings. The biggest benefit to using AutoCAD is that the majority of students are taught AutoCAD and there is a large amount of information out there through blogs, forums, and youtube.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It would be so helpful If autocad can be integrated with BIM technology in the future. Or Autocad can be developed into a system as the way Revit did, but continue to use the same logic of commands controlling.

"AutoCAD: Alive & kicking....."

What do you like best?

AutoCAD is a classic program that many professionals use across many disciplines. It is essentially digital hand-drafting. Although in my opinion, it's phasing out, many firms still use it regularly enough that as an instructor and a professional I feel justified teaching it to my students.

What do you dislike?

There is so much effort put into learning and using AutoCAD that would be better spent using BIM software. Again, simply put, it's digital hand-drafting.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I would strongly recommend leaning BIM modelling if your primary use for CAD is building & construction documents. However, if purposes of vector graphics and laser cutting, it's wonderful.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Many design firms have their entire office standard set-up on AutoCAD, it is hard to break from tradition. If a project is simple, out of the box, it's almost easier to use a standard boiler plate in CAD than to model the entire project.

What do you like best?

Autodesk AutoCAD is a very well designed and useful software package for professionals in the engineering community. It has features that allow it to be used in many industries and is relatively easily used after working with it for some time.

What do you dislike?

The learning curve is steep and seems to be getting more challenging as additional features are added (the previous releases were more user friendly), but I suppose that is to be expected.

"Past user"

What do you like best?

It's easy to create quick plans and iterations.

What do you dislike?

In a Revit world it's hard to go back to a tool that doesn't automatically generate elevation and 3d views, or work well with collaborative teams. X-refs and layer styles can be tricky.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Layers are important, even when linking or importing CAD into Revit- make sure you're aware of layer styles and whether layers are turned off/ on. Check out some Autodesk Forums for help.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We still work with CAD from different consultants and vendors and it's fairly easy to import and incorporate drawings into Revit. The relative compatibility between the two programs is a benefit.

"Classic architecture tool"

What do you like best?

The key strokes make using CAD more intuitive and reliant on searching for tools - if you want to be able to do something but you don't know the command, you might be able to just type it in and find it is indeed a tool. Even though Revit is becoming the dominant tool, CAD is still necessary for many firms (landscape especially) that do not need that 3d capability.

What do you dislike?

The transition from paperspace to modelspace can be confusing and cumbersome. The upgrades happen too frequently and are too expensive. The load times of large files makes managing them (Civil, especially) very difficult. It should be made easier to filter layers by type.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Be sure you are comfortable with key strokes as commands over buttons - this is great for those used to it but can be a pain if you're accustomed to clicking.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Most consultants use CAD rather than other BIM softwares such as Revit. It is used for referencing their plans, and it imports into Revit senselessly since they are the same parent company.

"Powerful and Easy to use"

What do you like best?

I have been an AUTOCAD user for about 12 years now.Seen it evolve over the years, to a very user friendly tool .The layout is like Microsoft Word, excel which I like very much. The more keyboard short cuts you know the faster you get your work done.It takes time ,but certainly worth it to learn the shortcuts. There are lot of free training material, active forums which makes learning easier. The customer support is excellent.

What do you dislike?

I'm quite happy. It takes time to learn this software.Need to be patient. You get better over time.I feel AUTOCAD is more inclined towards architectural drawings.Need to add more tools for electrical engineering. AUTOCAD is resource heavy and slows down your machine. But that's expected. AUTOCAD is expensive.

"Best computer drafting product"

What do you like best?

Works for everyone... architect, designers, engineers, etc. I have found that it is universally used across the design front, making it easy for anyone coordinating on the project to use the same program. Also, I have worked for different companies who have all used different versions, but all of the commands remain consistent in every version.

What do you dislike?

if you purchased autocad prior to 2013, the platform cannot be used on both a PC and a Mac. I have a mac laptop and a PC desktop... and do not wish to purchase another version to have it on both. It is probably time to update to the newest version anyway, but its just another expense!

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you have never used autocad before, it does take some time to learn commands, but everything you need to learn autocad can pretty much be found on the internet these days. I took a quick class that helped me become more efficient at autocad (also taught specifics toward my design field). If you are interested in autocad for design purposes, check who you would normally work with to see if they use it as well. So many different disciplines of design use it, which is what I like the most. I definitely think it is 100% worth the price.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

"AutoCad has come a long way "

What do you like best?

I have been using AutoCad for quite awhile now. The version my company uses is AutoCad 2013 and the amount of detail and care that they have put into using the program since the beginning is incredible.

What do you dislike?

I have reviewed this before, but i still believe there is not enough 3rd party support for add-ons that AutoCad could use. Sometimes it just isn't enough to use the built in features, i have purchased a third party 3D mouse for the software and it was the best decision i could have made.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Start with 2013, it has the best features to get use to without the hassle

"Utilized AutoCAD for design and drafting purposes as a civil engineering. "

What do you like best?

Precise measurements for to scale drawings. Made designing things easier. If you had to redraw something or duplicate something allowed for quick turnaround. The ability to print directly to DWFs also is a huge plus - as this speeds up review time. The ability to customize user profiles for different uses (i.e. survey, drafting, design) also aids in user function. If you company has a strong design template standard than that also simplifies things immensely. Creating custom commands or changing the appearance is also a great feature so that the interface is best suited to your likes.

What do you dislike?

When files are too data heavy there is large amounts of freezing.

I would get frustrated while trying to produce final documents because often amount of layers and line types would lead to a cluttered look, and would make changing the line type or scale difficult depending on how the line was set in the x-ref. Having to open files to just change the appearance of a line was very time consuming. Command clarity is also frustrating at times - because you think you typed on things and it ends up executing a different command - unless you take the time to hover over the text and read the commands function. Also the program will often freeze when you try to hatch or take the area of something that you believe to be a closed feature - but when its not ends up crashing the program. There should be a way to escape out of the command.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Great program, definitely take the time to use your company's tutorials or AutoCADs tutorials to ensure that you aren't fumbling around trying to teach yourself how to use this program.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

In designing water and sewer lines it is beneficial to have up-to-date line work (thru x-refs) if existing utilities as well as other proposed utilities.

The ability to draft things to scale was a huge help for designing stormwater management facilities where volumes and areas played a huge role in the design. And then having to fit this "shape" with in a predetermined area - CAD allows for quick re-draw or multiple design attempts.

"AutoCAD for architectural work is a dream"

What do you like best?

AutoCAD's ease of use makes it stand out amongst other software. It's many features are made easy to access given their customizable palette and typable commands. I like its myriad of options to do the same task best of all.

What do you dislike?

I have run into few problems with CAD, but sometimes troubleshooting a problem can be quite difficult. The other day, it took me nearly an hour to figure out layering options.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Drawing anything with CAD is a dream because of its many options and customization. I have saved loads of time with the availability of these features.

"Useful on Daily Basis"

What do you like best?

CAD is a program that I learned over 10 years ago, but they continually update the software to make it better, but many users who have learned the program still understand it. It frequently meets all of my drafting needs for the interior design work that I do.

What do you dislike?

I dislike that sometimes I cannot easily change a setting or preference in AutoCAD without having to troll through a bunch of online forums to figure out the issue.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I am able to do standard drafting, and more advanced drafting, I have been able to set up templates for our department to use to standardize our drawings, and I have even found ways to use AutoCAD for some basic graphics needs.

"Best basic drafting tool for architects & designers"

What do you like best?

I like how easy it is to use, pretty self explanatory and it does not make you insert coordinates, addresses, time of day or anything else. It's as if you're drafting on paper, but you have the luxury to undo and save every minute if you'd like. It is the first drafting program I learned how to use and it is my go to if I want to quickly draft anything. One of the best basic tools to an architect or designer.

What do you dislike?

It is very poor in the 3D section. Understandable since Autodesk has come out with Revit and Rhino, but it would be nice to have a 3D section in the same program to rely on once you're working on a project.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Please do learn Autocad before jumping into other programs that offer sheets and drawing presentations. Its one of the greatest drafting tools.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It has helped me go from a quick sketch to providing construction documents. It really good for creating and printing drawing sheets.

"Great product but still glitches"

What do you like best?

Once you start to use AutoCAD every day it is a very useful project.

What do you dislike?

Sometimes there are things you don't know how to fix in the program and even searching online you can't find the answers.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I am only familiar with AutoCAD. I believe it is a great product and gets the job accomplished. It still has issues like most programs of this capacity but it is completley functional and with the right training you can be an expert in using the program. I would recommend it to anyone that needs to produce drawings or 3D models.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Able to produce quality drawings for clients.

"Industry Standard"

What do you like best?

AutoCAD is great, as it is the industry standard for 2D drawings. It's easy to coordinate drawings with other AutoCAD using consultants. It's easy to overlay multiple disciplines using XREFs within different projects to make it easy to coordinate multiple disciplines or multiple drawings (such as floor plan and reflected ceiling plna)

What do you dislike?

It seems the industry is slowly transitioning to BIM and Revit, so AutoCAD may be turning obsolete. AutoCAD just uses lines vs. smart objects.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It's the industry standard - if you only need 2D drafting, it is the perfect tool. You'll just need to gauge whether or not you want to implement BIM and 3D modeling or if 2D is right for your office.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Using XREFs is an ideal way to manage complex plans to allow multiple people to work on the same project. It's easy to allow multiple people to work on a project by having the drawings set up and all XREF into one drawing sheet. It's easy to manage the workflow.

"Traditionally an awesome product"

What do you like best?

tool bars, ability to type commands, and evolving product.

What do you dislike?

Some tools are just not easy to use. Takes some training time and sometimes support. But getting a support supplement to the program is very helpful for large companies.

Recommendations to others considering the product

AutoCAD is traditionally an awesome CADD product. I learned CADD in high school using Autodesk AutoCAD and still use it in current work. We have recently pushed more towards other products due to our clients preferences, but the program works just fine for what it does. The product is always evolving and speaks well with InfraWorks, which is a cool innovated program for showing concepts.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Concept development and alternatives comparisons.

"I use it to keep my facilties drawings up to date"

What do you like best?

Ease of use, I have been using AutoCAD since 1987.

What do you dislike?

Change from buying product to leasing, they are trying to lock you in.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I always have up to date drawing files for electrical, plumbing, mechanical and architectural. When in house changes are made I update my drawings in AutoCAD it makes for a safer environment when a tradesman needs to look at something to know what circuit feeding equipment or being feed from emergency panels.

"I like specific parts of AutoCAD"

What do you like best?

I love the key in option for commands it makes it super simple to get the tools you need by just typing a shortcut instead of hunting for a tool in the toolbar

What do you dislike?

The circle tool, it doesn't stay active nor does it have simple options for creating circles.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Personally if you are deciding between one or the other go with microstation, but if you have to go with AutoCAD it's not a terrible program and the key in is tops!!

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I was contracted to a company that only used AutoCAD so now I am proficient in both autocad and microstation.

"AutoCAD - A great generic design solution"

What do you like best?

The extensive ability to customize the program from end-to-end make it a very capable product. It has developed a long ways since I started using it about 15 years ago.

What do you dislike?

For some reason, it has become slow to navigate around and when multiple external references are used AutoCAD will be slow to refresh between various layouts.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Since there is so many options, buttons and commands it would be best to find a good introductory course at a training center or community college. Luckily, since it is command-line based it's mostly what your see is what you get.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We utilize AutoCAD for 2D clash detection by collecting drawings from various MEPF trades, and exporting them as PDFs to overlay and find issues.

"Great and Consistent"

What do you like best?

The interface is very customizable and the software is consistent year after year. There are not many differences between newer versions and older ones. I like how precise drawings can be and the shortcuts help you work much faster.

What do you dislike?

Sometimes when converting newer drawings to older versions, there are some weird lines across drawings, but overall, an easy fix. Other than that, here is not much I dislike. It is pretty straightforward.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We are a mill-work company and our ability to be very detailed helps immensely. The consistency helps with any outsourced drawings we get and revisions are a breeze.

"AutoCAD - Great for engineering and landscaping designs"

What do you like best?

Coming from someone that mainly works with Microstation, I love the user commands implemented into AutoCAD. It makes working on a project easier and quicker to type in commands for CAD functions instead of relying on constantly clicking on tool keys.

AutoCAD also makes it very simple to work on separate drawing files at the same time by having the files open at the same time and just tabbing to the file you want to work in. This makes time efficient when you are working in multiple sheets and reference drawings.

What do you dislike?

While this is not directly specifc to AutoCAD, I sometimes have trouble converting AutoCAD .dwg files and Microstation .dgn files. Both have easy functions to convert files to and from one another, but sometimes the unit dimensions can be lost. This makes it hard when trying to be accurate as possible when working with survey files. Another issue between converting between the to is hatching patterns. Patterns can be lost during conversion or be broken up, which makes it hard if you need to calculate any shapes.

Recommendations to others considering the product

When switching over from another CAD software, learning how to type commands for functions makes it easier to use, especially when you have a command cheat sheet that you can find anywhere online.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I have been using AutoCAD for parking lot designs. AutoCAD makes it simple to create geometric shapes and designs in both 2D and 3D models.

"the best program to create plans in 2d or 3d models"

What do you like best?

its very easy to use, it makes perfect sense when you use it, and its very easy to learn how to use it

What do you dislike?

sometimes you have to search for some shortcuts and its tricky to use when you are learning

Recommendations to others considering the product

Its a complee software to make plans or 3d modeling, but its not like a bim software where you can start with a simple floor and then it makes a 3d model for you, autocad is a complete program but for some very specific areas.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

a lot of construction plans, and 3d models to present to my clients.

"AutoCAD user for over 13 years"

What do you like best?

I love AutoCAD. There is so much you can do with the program, and I know that with what I do with it I am barely scratching the surface on all of the functions. I use AutoCAD LT 2016 for landscape design and I love the flexibility with revisions and making adjustments. With using my template I've created over the years, I can get a design out in record time.

What do you dislike?

When I have AutoCAD open with other programs (Photoshop, Google Earth Pro), it seems that a few minutes after both are open, AutoCAD will act up and the ESC button doesn't function along with some mouse clicks act differently. I sometimes need to have both programs open at the same time and the glitch can be super frustrating. I have an issue with scaling OLE objects depending on what file source they are and I still haven't been able to solve that mystery.

Recommendations to others considering the product

AutoCAD provides a lot in terms of drafting. As a landscape designer, I have found the LT version provides me with more that what I need and use for creating my planting, lighting, and irrigation plans.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I create to-scale landscape designs and AutoCAD serves my needs for drafting plans and providing quick revisions and edits. I enjoy drafting by hand but I make the most of my time when I draft with AutoCAD.

"Comfortable software for Freshers and Experienced People"

What do you like best?

Auto CAD is a good software for 2D and 3D Drawings, It is easy to learn for freshers or experienced people, Its good software for small company's which are working GIS and Auto CAD projects, It is flexible software for Data conversation and calculation. and it has easy commands to work fast. It is amazing software to create our own UI shortcuts.

What do you dislike?

The installation of this Auto CAD software become difficulty and it is time consuming more, and it deletes the Auto save files when Auto CAD closed. And it is decrease the performance of software when working on 3D design. And it does not allows to work multiple users on a single file at a time.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Go with this Auto CAD. It provides great service for developing, construction and Designing fields.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We used Auto CAD in some land base projects to create shape files, achieve good quality and efficiency in our projects
