Great for keeping track of project quality and snags

What do you like best?

easy to recall checklists, issues (snags clean up notices etc.) and using barcodes for relating those issues and checklists to a specific area keeps everything a lot more relevant. We have over 7000 rooms on our project and using the QR codes has let us relate issues very accurately so that anyone can follow up on issues. Being able to compartmentalise the information by using the user profiles is also very useful as it means our subcontractors can focus on their own issues and it eally helps decltter the information that is presented to them while we can still keep track of the bigger picture.

What do you dislike?

the larger the project the setup seems to exponentially increase (allocating locations, equipment, checklists and qr codes) the use of the excel spreadsheets to import information definitely reduces this somewhat but adding locations for a larger construction project will take a lot of time (on the project I am working on there are over 7700 individual rooms) and then associating those locations with a piece of equipment in order to create a scannable QR code doubles the time with something that is largely replicated work but you have to do so in order to assign a relevant checksheet template to a loation.

Recommendations to others considering the product

whe settig up locations for construction project, ask your architect for a extract of their drawings for the room numbers and copy that into the excel spreadsheet for the locations or equipment when importing, this will save you a lot of time.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

recalling closed or in progress issue resolution is very easy, especially compaired to trawling through paper docments

We love it!

What do you like best?

The ability to collaborate locally and remotely is fantastic. It's made our workflow much more efficient that I have a hard tome imagining working without it now.

What do you dislike?

The price!!! The cost per seat has been tough to swallow. It would be great if it could be reduced somehow.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It's worth the jump!

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We're a small group and bring on remote consultants from time to time. Collaboration for Revit and BIM360 provides the capability to work anywhere at anytime as if we are all in the some office in a workshare environment. We're also able to join in on projects from our customers and support them on large projects that needs extra horsepower. It's a game changer all the way around.

What Construction Management solution do you use?

Thanks for letting us know!

BIM 360? More like a Tony Hawk 900!

What do you like best?

The ability to post multiple models based around whatever scopes my in field staff need.

I can shape how we communicate to clients by views, markups and dimensions. Helps us stay brief and to the point. Being direct and concise leads to less miscommunication and less bristly interactions when lots of money is at stake for our clients.

What do you dislike?

The Inability to toggle a possible change and save as right there. Maybe a lock/unlock feature would be awesome!

Recommendations to others considering the product

Add additional features that were presented in the beta test presentation for the next gen it cant come soon enough!

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

RFI, Change Orders. Quantities, installation options, Directives refresh.

Last year we saved on just one project over 250k!

BIM 360 keeps the job going

What do you like best?

I like using BIM 360 Field for keeping track of issues in the field and to communicate various issues to subcontractors, architects and engineers.

What do you dislike?

I would like to see more Status categories for subcontractors to choose when they are reviewing issues. At present they can only choose to mark issues as "Work Completed" or to leave the item "Open". An option for them to report if the issues does not pertain to them without just adding a comment and marking the issue completed. Perhaps an option such as "Reviewed" and then sub-options such as "Not in contract", "Assigned to Incorrect Company", "Further Direction Needed", and so forth.

Recommendations to others considering the product

There are many components to BIM 360. Integrating as many of the components and modules as possible in your business environment to meet your needs will be a process of trial and success!!

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

In my current role as a Quality Control Manager for construction, the biggest problem is getting subcontractors to perform their own quality checks. I remind them to use the issues tracking as a guide for what they should be checking in other similar areas and not to strictly adhere to the list as being the final word for meeting their contractual requirements. I also remind them that we are not blaming them for various issues but rather that we are showing the architects/engineers/owners (who also see the issues) that we are identifying non-conforming work which we expect will develop a level of trust to obtain future work.

Solid Collaboration tools, Lackluster 3D Coordination utility

What do you like best?

BIM 360 works very well as a Cross-Company collaboration tool making it very easy for the entire project team to stay connected with the very latest 3D modelling information on the project.

What do you dislike?

As a 3D Coordination tool I find BIM 360 to be extremely lackluster. Especially when compared to the other Autodesk Coordination software on the market. All of the same tools are there, they just aren't as powerful/useful as I would like to see them. Also with the latest versions the ability to merge BIM 360 Data with Local files has been taken away leaving you with no ability to have a truly "Live" model that can be updated on the fly. This leaves you with only the somewhat lengthy Gluing process or downloading every Project file you need to your personal machine, which destroys the value of such a powerful file sharing solution.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I would make sure to utilize any trial period you can and make sure that this software will meet your needs in it's current form

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We have coordinated several large commercial construction projects with BIM 360 Glue, and have thus far found that we were going back to Navisworks, just because coordination is so much easier.

Mechanical Contracting Perspective

What do you like best?

Navisworks integration; Online collaboration tools; real time updating of model; multiple projects managed at your fingertips in a shared online portal; file history readily accessible; support from AutoDesk personnel on all issues; design team is responsive to requests for added and improved functionality;

What do you dislike?

Consistency in movement options and clash detection; visual display options; for some reason when my company changed email addresses, it took me several weeks to get my Glue jobs transferred over to my new AutoDesk login email address. I wish that process would have been more streamlined and straight forward. It took way too many emails and phone calls to get that problem resolved. Throughout the process, techs people were responsive to my requests - it was the software that took forever to get fixed.

But at the end of the day, that's a small complaint compared to all the wonderful things that the platform provides.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Stick with it. The value is there if you use it as often as possible and enforce all trade partners to participate fully. The NavisWorks Manage integration piece alone can almost completely replace normal in-house document control practices if used to its fullest potential.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Bringing trade partners together who do not own Manage is a major benefit in this industry. We talk to contractors almost every week that use Glue as their main collaboration and clash detection tool because it is provided by the GC and they don't have to purchase their own software suite.
