What do you like best?
AutoTag allows developing templates against a local database or XML file before installing on a production server to generate reports via Windward Engine. The selection is powerful enough that nearly any combination of output is possible - it really helps to "never say no" to a customer.
Implementation as an add-in for MS Office applications means it is easy to see what the reports you develop will look like. And there's quirky graphics in the UI that are updated seasonally - Summer, Fall, Halloween and even Christmas!
What do you dislike?
It can be difficult to determine the applicable syntax from the documentation since AutoTag supports so many different data sources. Fortunately the XPath Tag Wizard turns graphical selection logic into select tag syntax for many common situations.
Occasional UI oddities, particularly around focus and mouse pointer selection. There is so much functionality in AutoTag one of the hardest things can be navigating the documentation to find what applies to the template you are building.
Recommendations to others considering the product
If you use the Windward Engine for reporting, AutoTag is a great part of the package. Implementation as a plug-in for MS Office applications makes it convenient to use.

Exporting to MS Office documents is an incredible feature for our product and our customers as we enable digital transformation from document-based to fully online processes. With the Windward Engine built into Blueprint, our requirements management product, AutoTag enables customers and consultants to build templates that export requirements into the exact document formats our customers currently use. Customers are able to adopt Blueprint while maintaining stable procedures and continuing to meet contract and compliance requirements for MS Office documents.
