Azure...To be or Not to be...That is the question

What do you like best?

For starters, the fact that AKS only has the need for one primary OS (host), and the engine for the container, makes managing the Apps much simpler and more efficient, as there are less factors at play. Because of this, the size of our containers are also much smaller than the average size of our VMs we were using to host the same apps.

Likewise, spinning up a new container so quickly has increased our application availability. We are able to bring up new containers when needed such as during our quarterly conferences, or during our once a year congress where we have 4-8x the amount of people accessing resources.

What do you dislike?

The usage of the registry is limited and when we are utilizing our docker client, it requires a temporary token which has caused some issues along the way in terms of authentication.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

One of our business problems being solved is the availability of other network resources that are not being utilized strictly by these applications. Its also great because by utilizing azure active directory along with our containers, we are able to sync our AD with Azure and control access to our containers and apps.

Much faster than deploying in a VM

What do you like best?

Integration with Docker. This makes the service usable for our developers working cross-platform.

What do you dislike?

The application management portal could be better. Sometimes it's laggy or the status is out of date. Also, there are so many animations in the portal that it makes the web browser super sluggish.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Try out similar AWS offerings too, since the admin portals are somewhat different, and one of the two services may suit your needs better.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We wanted to develop our Ruby on Rails services cross-platform. The container service enables us to use Docker and do that very thing, since Docker can run on Windows and Mac.
