"Very Basic Features of Azure HDInsight"

What do you like best?

What I like most is that the Hadoop Cluster in the cloud, composed of head and worker nodes with the resource manager YARN, has HDFS storage. The processing is composed of head and worker nodes with the resource manager YARN, also has storage in Windows Azure Storage Blob (WASB), Azure Data Lake Store (WebHDFS, ADL), uses the Hortonworks distribution and includes Hive, Pig, Storm, Spark among others.

What do you dislike?

What I dislike is that there is no suspension of the HDInsight cluster.

deploy the cluster, the solution is, do the work and then eliminate it to avoid unnecessary charges.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I highly recommend it, it has the peculiarity that it can be deployed from the Azure portal, it is easy to create and eliminate, excellent.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Among the benefits is the automatic cluster layout and configuration, it has cluster scaling, it also changes the number of nodes without deleting to eliminate or recreate the cluster, it has high availability and reliability, it has a managed solution, HDInsight includes a secondary head node

"Azure makes bigdata engineer life easier"

What do you like best?

Azure platform is a place where almost we can find everything that are required for a typical data engineer work. And the most amazing part of azure is having HDInsight (HDP cluster) and Databricks at one place with various eco system noteobooks like Jupyter, Zeppelin etc which makes the Data Scientist job easier.

Also, another amazing part with Azure is storing data in a blob storage and exploring the metadata of various sources using data catalog.

What do you dislike?

There is nothing much to say, but still the way to interact with various components can be made easier to the end user.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Teams who want to have a cost effective quick solution and for building data pipelines or ingestion platforms can go with azure with very less resources.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Building data ingestion platform and data pipelines using spark and doing ETL as per the business requirements

What Big Data Processing and Distribution solution do you use?

Thanks for letting us know!

"Hadoop Hive on Azure!"

What do you like best?

Azure has a tremendous selection of built-in deployment tool for virtual machines and servers in the cloud. The marketplace is divided into Compute, Networking, Storage, Web+Mobile, Databases, Intelligence/Analytics, IoE, Security, etc. For the sake of my project, Hadoop Hortonworks came standardized. Little setup and configuration is needed on the user side, other than choosing the amount of cpu/nodes you required and what the purposes of the VM will be. Customization can be done during the initial setup or after it's completed (for instance specifying an static IP address).

What do you dislike?

There were times that terminating (shutting down) a virtual machines did not succeed properly. In which case, the VM would still run in the background and you will continuously billed for the time that your server is running. I learned this the hard way and I would wait on the browser screen until the termination of the server is complete and then shut off the browser window.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I used an academic version of Microsoft Azure in conjunction with Hadoop Hortonworks to run an ETL Datawarehouse with an Tableau desktop application to visualize the data inputs for NYC high school graduation rates and SAT test scores. Ease of usage, relatively low maintenance cost and the ability to share the work space in a collaborative setting were excellent benefits.

"The best platform to deploy our clusters"

What do you like best?

Its variety of applications, freedom to choose the best cluster caapcity for company needs and of course their programming tools attached like Azure Databricks or Zeppelin

It has a lot of settings about cluster configuration giving us the best of both worlds

What do you dislike?

I would integrate the pipelines with new Azure DevOps

I would integrate azure data lake store with better API's to access data

I would improve the tutorials about using it

I would include a native integration with IntelliJ

Recommendations to others considering the product

Consider including Zeppelin and Kafka clusters for better deployments

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We are deploying a HDInsight cloud to store and compute all public transport data for a smart cities project. The benefit of having all configured and Microsoft support

"Easy to use but has some flaws"

What do you like best?

Azure is a fantastic platform for monitoring performance. Everything is right at your fingertips, and is easy to access.

What do you dislike?

It's a little training intensive. It usually took so long to teach clients how to use it that it was easier to simply control it for them.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Be ready for some intensive training for your admins. Otherwise this is a great product!
