"I am a Barracuda partner and we manage multiple Barracuda Backup devices."

What do you like best?

Barracuda makes some great products, including their backup devices. We manage many of them for our clients and the replication from device to device works great for off-site storage. Their tech support is also top notch and fixes and issues in a very timely manner.

What do you dislike?

The replication from device to device is great but you can only replicate to a Barracuda Backup 490 and higher. We have some smaller clients that use the 190 and 390 models and it would be nice to be able to replicate from a 190 to a 390 but you can't.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It is expensive but worth it in the long run.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Using the Barracuda Backup boxes solves the backup problem for most of our clients and allows for a good retention time that you can customize. The replication between boxes benefits our clients so their critical data is stored on-site and off-site.

"Admin and user of Barracuda backup"

What do you like best?

Easy to setup and install. The agent software can be pushed through command line to multiple servers. Replication can be controlled well and backup schedules are really simple. The restore options are great and they are always pushing new firmware. Comes with support for Kroll OnTrack so you can do file level Exchange restores. It does offer de-duplication, which can save on space. The agent is exchange aware and SQL aware so it can truncate logs for you

What do you dislike?

Can be slow to replicate even with fast internet. Backups, when they fail, often provides vague errors. Support is helpful though as they can see logs behind the scenes. Retention policy is often hard to understand and can lead to data not being available for restore. Restoring data is also slow, baremetal restores are very slow and almost not worth it. Restoring files from the cloud is also not fast.

They are not easy to upgrade hard drive space so buy a bigger model then what you need

"Backup Solutions that work!"

What do you like best?

Ease of use and setup. GUI is very intuitive. Restore browser allows you options for restores.

What do you dislike?

Website can be slow at times, but for the most part there is nothing I do not like

Recommendations to others considering the product

Make sure you size the appliance correctly the first time, we went too small initially and had to purchase the next size up, barracuda did give us a trade-in on the smaller device.

Saves us money on tapes and decreases the time we need for restores.

I dislike some of the vague errors reported by the console, but support can help you through it.

"Excellent customer support "

What do you like best?

Barracuda backup has provided us an easy method to back up file for DR as well as daily backups. The graphical interface is easy to use and manage. I like have all my clients at the click of a mouse. I like being able to check status reports. Barracuda support is reliable and they are efficient in telling me what the problem is.

What do you dislike?

The thing I dislike the most is how some of the setups require a lot more extensive work and they promise to sync everything for you. I've had to refer to their FAQ website a handful of times. I wish it had a link or help option right on the user interface.

We are providing distaster recovery for our clients as well as weekly backup for our servers.

"Very reliable and simple to use backup"

What do you like best?

Once you set up your backups and schedules you only need to work on when you are notified of a failure. Typically when there is a failure it has to do with what you are backing up rather than the backup process itself. Upgrades are streamlined, update as desired and all of your client will be automatically updated. Also no software specific agents are needed.

What do you dislike?

Catching up to features on Exchange take a while. They just released message level backup for Exchange 2016 which was quite a wait.So if you are always on the edge of new features, you may want to verify that what you use is currently available to be backed up with all the features you want.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Backups were a huge issue for us. Not reliable and very time consuming to manage. Now it is substantially more efficient.

"Appliance Based Backup - Solid Performer"

What do you like best?

Backup configuration is decently easy, although it is a little convoluted, but once setup, it is set it and forget it.

What do you dislike?

Sizing. I wish I was better educated at how to size. Doubling your data really doesn't cut it. Double the whole machine you're backing up since it creates VMs. That way you'll have some room to grow. What's more, it would be better to TRIPLE your current utilization.

Just be careful of the sizing.

"Simple and Reliable"

What do you like best?

The simplicity of this interface and the outstanding customer service!

I cannot think of anything I honestly dislike.

We live in an area with natural disasters. The peace of mind we have through Barracuda back-ups and ease of getting back up and running are amazing!

"Barracuda Backup is a great reliable service"

What do you like best?

Anytime I needed support, they were very responsive and helpful. The service is reliable and affordable, offers great reporting tools and notifications, and was easy to use.

What do you dislike?

Occasional lags getting current on new product updates could be annoying.

If you are still using backup tapes or another software, consider Barracuda Backup to improve your efficiency.

"Barracuda Backup"

What do you like best?

The Barracuda backup is easy to set up and use for Windows devices. The interface is clean and easy to navigate. Restores are easy and straightforward.

What do you dislike?

I dislike that there is not a native client for Mac machines. This leaves you having to configure the system manually.

"Low maintenance backup solution"

What do you like best?

File restores are now much faster than using a legacy tape system

What do you dislike?

There is not much not to like about this product. For a small business with only a couple of terabytes to back-up this works great, but not sure how well it would scale for customers with larger data needs.

We replaced a legacy tape back-up system. We no longer need to remember to take tapes off-site.

"Barracuda Backup Rocks!"

What do you like best?

Very reliable and easy to setup. Restoring files and previous file versions is a snap!

What do you dislike?

I have nothing negative to say about this product we are extremely pleased with this backup solution.

Safe and secure backup and restore utility. Takes the guess work out of wondering if your backups are really working. In the past with other vendors our backups were always in question as to their reliability.

"Barracuda Backup System 690"

What do you like best?

The product is great for file system backups. It restores a file structure very quickly compared to others.

What do you dislike?

We have had issue when running backups on SQL servers. For the amount of time it was running users would receive timeouts when running queries on our website. We found that removing Barracuda from those servers and going with a different solution for those.
