"Blackberry Blend"

What do you like best?

The ability to easily access your email accounts, text messages and calendar on your workstation and tablet allows for increased productivity and ease of input (e.g. keyboard and mouse, larger touchscreen) without needing to setup your accounts on each individual device. Without needing to shift focus from your current desktop and workspace, you can continue work that you may have started from you phone, continuing working as you're in transit, and then pick up your work from another device. It also allows for charging your phone while continuing to make use of your accounts almost seamlessly. It also allows for easier management of file storage and transfer both onto and from the phone's internal storage without requiring the use of microSD cards and other cables, as well as between devices that have blend installed.

What do you dislike?

There is a shortage of Blend enabled third party apps which mostly restricts blend to being used with the default Blackberry apps (Hub email, text, etc.) and calendar. It appears the intention was to allow expansion of Blend to additional apps but unfortunately this never materialized and so the capabilities are not as great in scope as they potentially could have been. Further, there is a significant delay when sending text messages through blend instead of directly through the phone, presumably because it is sent from the computer/laptop back to the phone, before it is then sent from the phone onwards. This limits the ability to send consecutive text messages, as any text, regardless of length or type of content (text or image), will take upwards of 10 seconds to send. Further, the connection tends to drop between the computer/tablet often, requiring the user to login again semi-frequently. The connection through USB and mobile network both seem to suffer from the disconnections. It is also unable to auto-detect whether to connect through USB when it is plugged in, vs. over mobile connection when it is not.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Be aware that Blend appears to be considered mature by Blackberry, in that there are no regular updates to add additional features anymore or even to fix bugs. It essentially comes as-is, and you should assess if that meets your needs in its current form.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Essentially the ability to access and use the phone's contacts, accounts and calendar without interrupting my workflow on a larger workstation and tablet are the key benefits. The ability to put the contents from my phone on-screen and side by side with other documents makes simply improves the ease of use. It also solves more limited input methods that are available on the phone or tablet, by allowing access to the phone on a larger screen and full-sized mechanical keyboard.

"it's okay - but only if the local policy allows it"

What do you like best?

Personally, I like the fact that you can have your blackberry in your jacket pocket, and respond to email from your laptop without having to interrupt the flow of what you're doing.

What do you dislike?

on occasion, blackberry blend can be disallowed by local policy - not a huge fan of the fact it's just a complimentary service and not something which could - in effect - be considered blackberry for desktop

Recommendations to others considering the product

Honestly, it's a genuinely handy tool, but i'm not totally sure if the security around the email is sufficient in this day and age

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

it makes troubleshooting sync issues on BES 10 devices easier if you do have access to this, as you can (in effect) have them side by side on the same screen; which makes remote support a doddle.

"Get your Blackberry out of your Blackberry"

What do you like best?

Being able to access almost every important data you keep in your smartphone from a computer or table is just awesome. It gives you an enhanced user experience with the security we all know Blackberry provides

What do you dislike?

There are few contras about this peace of software. Sometimes it gives you a hard time installing but mostly due drivers or .NET Framework. Nothing out of the ordinary.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you are a Blackberry smartphone user don´t be afraid to adopt this wonderful software. It is worth to take your time to install it and use it.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Having the possibility to do work in a bigger screen and keyboard (computer instead of Smartphone) saves anyone plenty time. We all know this equation: time = money

"The Best Idea in Smartphone history......Bombed "

What do you like best?

What's not to like about an application on your desktop that not a sync tool but a complete replica of activity on your phone coming to your desktop. Ability to send text and emails from the comfort of a large screen and full size keyboard while in the office. This is a Dream app, with potential to be endlessly useful! Every function it does it a great idea and then some.

What do you dislike?

This is where reality sets in. On Macintosh systems the blend app is buggy, unstable and unpredictable. Hangs, crashes and disconnections for no reason plague this app at every curve. Both the wireless connection and USB connection. Due to this apparently known flaws you can not rely on this application as a notification app as you will loose messages or not know you are not connected anymore as it will just loop. WIth such an idea and game changer WHY this is not on the top of the list to fix for current BB users is not known to me and is sad.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Do not jump on it yet if you are still using Blackberry devices. It will only sadden you to realize what you are missing out on.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Speed answering to texts and calendar updates being entered in sooner. IF the reliability of the app was higher these solutions would be bigger and maybe would find more. But with uncertainty it's hard to put trust in it. I have realized many benifits, merging 3 open apps into 1 would be great and is possible if the above issues are seen and fixed.

"Great for when you forget your phone, otherwise limited use cases"

What do you like best?

BB Blend allows for messaging through the hub as a native Windows/OSX/Linux application. You can even attach files from the phone to messages.

What do you dislike?

There isn't much of a need to use it unless I don't have my phone with me, which is unlikely. Blend also does not support messaging through apps that aren't email or text - meaning Whatsapp and other messages simply don't show up making it somewhat meaningless.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Not exactly sure why you would need to use it.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I don't think we have any advantage of using it vs not using it. Most cases, a different mail client accessing the same accounts is already on the computer so the utility is rather confusing.

"Great if you actively use the blackberry ecosystem"

What do you like best?

I like how it allows you to use essentially use your blackberry on a tablet, which is great.

What do you dislike?

I dislike how it is limited to blackberry. I switched to iPhone, and would love to have this feature now.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It's great only if you use blackberry already, not worth switching to for though.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Having a more comfortable, and bigger screen to communicate in the ways I wanted to using my old blackberry device.

"At Some Point, You Have to Let Go"

What do you like best?

It serves a purpose for integrating different technologies. However, BlackBerry is not my choice for business.

What do you dislike?

Apple makes everything so easy that you can become spoiled. When using Blackberey devices, I feel as if I’m using outdated technology.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Again, it’s easy to integrate different technologies. However, o don’t see it as a benefit.
