What do you like best?
The ability to easily access your email accounts, text messages and calendar on your workstation and tablet allows for increased productivity and ease of input (e.g. keyboard and mouse, larger touchscreen) without needing to setup your accounts on each individual device. Without needing to shift focus from your current desktop and workspace, you can continue work that you may have started from you phone, continuing working as you're in transit, and then pick up your work from another device. It also allows for charging your phone while continuing to make use of your accounts almost seamlessly. It also allows for easier management of file storage and transfer both onto and from the phone's internal storage without requiring the use of microSD cards and other cables, as well as between devices that have blend installed.
What do you dislike?
There is a shortage of Blend enabled third party apps which mostly restricts blend to being used with the default Blackberry apps (Hub email, text, etc.) and calendar. It appears the intention was to allow expansion of Blend to additional apps but unfortunately this never materialized and so the capabilities are not as great in scope as they potentially could have been. Further, there is a significant delay when sending text messages through blend instead of directly through the phone, presumably because it is sent from the computer/laptop back to the phone, before it is then sent from the phone onwards. This limits the ability to send consecutive text messages, as any text, regardless of length or type of content (text or image), will take upwards of 10 seconds to send. Further, the connection tends to drop between the computer/tablet often, requiring the user to login again semi-frequently. The connection through USB and mobile network both seem to suffer from the disconnections. It is also unable to auto-detect whether to connect through USB when it is plugged in, vs. over mobile connection when it is not.
Recommendations to others considering the product
Be aware that Blend appears to be considered mature by Blackberry, in that there are no regular updates to add additional features anymore or even to fix bugs. It essentially comes as-is, and you should assess if that meets your needs in its current form.
What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
Essentially the ability to access and use the phone's contacts, accounts and calendar without interrupting my workflow on a larger workstation and tablet are the key benefits. The ability to put the contents from my phone on-screen and side by side with other documents makes simply improves the ease of use. It also solves more limited input methods that are available on the phone or tablet, by allowing access to the phone on a larger screen and full-sized mechanical keyboard.
