What do you like best?
It is very easy to get into and so it allows a great self service BI. Users can just jump in. Most of it is self explaining. That's quite the exception when it comes to BI tools.
More complexity is still possible and allows for a differentiation of reports. This is always important as people will, in time, want to have some standard reports that provide more/better displayed data than what can be achieved with basic knowledge. And here is where the great community comes in; support on the board pages by board users is excellent.
It is also very easy to set up data input. This could solve many cases where otherwise Excel reports are sent accross the organisation just to fill in data with the difficulty that the format needs to be maintained.
What do you dislike?
It seems that many of the newer features are developed as islands. Sometimes they lack integration with the rest of the system. What comes to mind is the for computations of data there are "column algorithm", "nexel formulas", "rules", "analytical functions" just for the data display. One needs to be knowledgeable when to use what and they have sometimes unexpected interactions.
Recommendations to others considering the product
Ensure you know the needs of the users. Do you have many users that would like to get off Excel? Is there a need to standardise current Excel reports? Then Board is a perfect choice keeping costs and necessary knowledge low.
If you expect your users to analyse data themselves and adapt existing reports to current needs then also Board is a very good choice.
Board would be the wrong choice when it comes to pixel perfect reports. If your users don't need to modify the report layout or quickly drill down into deeper levels, then maybe Board is not necessary.
What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
At this stage we mostly review sales data. Board allows for much easier drill down functionality than what would be possible with Excel based reports. In comparison to bigger suites such as from IBM Cognos or Microsoft (SSAS, SSRS, SSIS) development is much quicker to get first results to the screen and the decision makers.
