"CA Agile Central - For scaling agile implementation in an Enterprise"

What do you like best?

Tool is intuitive for real world impediments in agile implementation. It is very simple to configure portfolio kind of large enterprise solution and track the deliverables with little effort.

Minimizes time spent on pulling data and generating reports. User manuals and video tutorials are of top quality and ease to pick the tool. Ease of maintaining admin tasks. Scrum ceremonies, artifacts are simulated very well to get real feel of agile implementation by accessing the tool

What do you dislike?

Pricing seems to be revisited. Though lot of manual content is available but to get support from the team is little long process. Lack of chat support.

"Robust but unpolished"

What do you like best?

There are a lot of things to like about the tool. It's fairly easy to represent large scale projects that break down across a variety of teams and roles. It handles defects, dependencies, and tasks very well.

What do you dislike?

Sometimes info gets lost between the Notes and the Discussion areas. Rules for generation notifications are hugely cumbersome. Auto-saved changes can generate an avalanche of notifications if someone is putzing through a lot of little details. It doesn't offer any tools for sanity checking (for example, it would be nice if it highlighted 0-hour tasks after a spring has started, or let me see all US with fully-completed tasks)

Recommendations to others considering the product

A good, comprehensive solution, but the rough edges will make it less than ideal if you have teams resistant to Agile/Scrum.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Org-wide sprint planning and coordination. It's helped keep multiple separate teams on track and in communication.

What Product Management solution do you use?

Thanks for letting us know!

"Team Space"

What do you like best?

I like how requirements are managed. For example, there are User Stories that translate into our product requirements and Test Cases, which become our Software specifications at a more detailed level. Our team uses Rally as a comprehensive team space to track progress during sprint testing, log and track informal defects and write requirements.

What do you dislike?

I did not like the half screen for Test Case view but after many complaints, Rally did switch back to full page view. There should be an easier way to customize fields and make some mandatory and not but there are too many hoops to jump through to do so without the help of an admin.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Our team utilizes Rally for requirements and informal defect tracking. This is a great way to track progress and keep tabs on requirements management.

"CA Agile Central - Rally for sprint management "

What do you like best?

Have been using it since 1 year its easy to use for basic requirement collection and task based discussions. Drag and drop feature for priority management. Sumple UI elements for changing filters, right hand side panels for making quick updates on the user story and tasks. New team board is a good start but more is expected.

What do you dislike?

No popup windows, single frame UI that makes it very difficult for managers or leads to open different tasks/stories. On the smaller screens there is so mach scrolling required. Dashboard experience is not the best as it just loads the standard views. Column customisation and filters for grid are missing. While viewing a long list its not possible to search user story or task by name is really frustrating. Default reports are just too basic. UI can be improved a lot.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It is best for managing small/medium project having limited number of tasks. UI has some limitations which is ideal in case of Pure Agile - one task at a time, but that is not always the case for team leads and project managers.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It provides a platform to collect all requirements and discussion place to nurture requirements, provides status update and track Sprint releases. By adding Business Owners and Task Owners to Watch list it keeps them updated about progress on the status without sending emails manually.

Discussion thread is not positioned correctly but it still provides necessary features to do the forum discussion on the same.

"Everything is updated inside your team"

What do you like best?

I have been using this web app since i became a working student here in ACT Cebu. My likes of this application is you can create stories for yourself or for your team mate to know what to are your to do's. And you can determine or monitor your progress in making the projects of a company. There are many features that you can do using this application.

What do you dislike?

It needs internet connection and the UI is not easy to adopt easily. It takes time to learn and familiarize the use and the functionalities of every feature.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I recommend this application because it is very useful in any company. This can solve your management system of your employees. Monitor your improvement with your team. Track sales and any transactions or any projects you will make. And it will be organized and in the right track or steps in making those projects using this application.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It can be used in software developing or any business that needs progress monitoring and employee teamwork capability.

"The road to Agile with CA agile central as your companion"

What do you like best?

The way everything is organised in CA agile central. The scrum team in which I am a part of, had our lives made easier by CA Agile central tool. It is so convenient to track user stories and estimate from product backlogs and keep track of our team's activities. The user story creation, ownership and maintenance all comes with easy with Agile. It helps a lot in kick starting a sprint with clear and documented goals and helps achieve them completely by the end of the sprint. In the summary pages, the action items are designed perfectly with easy way to raise and track and defects.

What do you dislike?

The tool has some timely bugs with it. Sometimes, it takes too much time to load. The rest of the time it works fine. Also, we users are not in loop for the announcement of continued updates and hence when a new update arrives we will be having a hard time getting used to it. It also helps in effective communication. Now, we have a better understanding of the market and can recognize good and bad products and deliver well.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Would be nice if the speed of the application is increased with less access time.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I am working in an Agile team with DevOps framework incorporated. With CA Agile central, there were blowing past commitments, no issues on transparency and we were able to get products into market faster.

"Excellent Agile Tracking/Documenation tool"

What do you like best?

How easy it is to create stories and tasks.

Also documenting Acceptance Criteria and task details such as test processes and results.

The multiple views of stories is great too:

Iteration Status, team status, Team Board, Swim lanes organizing related stories.

We started using colors and swim lanes as soon as they were available. There great.

What do you dislike?

The Swim Lane view of stories does not include the points for each story in the bottom right corner

as is shown for stories in the Iteration Status view.

We would use the Swim Lane view more if the points were shown there too.

Especially in PI planning meetings.

We assign colors to related stories and the swim lane view groups them by color but

then we can't see how big each story is or set the number of points to each story there.

We have to go to the Iteration Status for that, causing lots of flipping back and forth.

All story info should be displayed any where a story shows up.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Better abilities to fully document stories and tasks with large documentation fields such as descriptions, acceptance criteria, test results, notes, etc. that other tools I've used.

Also lots of ways to organize and group stories:

By Release, iteration, expedite, milestone, story type, colors, swim lane priority, etc

We don't always use all of them but the are nice to have if we need them.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Creating typical agile stories and tasks, documenting Acceptance Criteria.

Also sometimes test processes and results for future reference.

"Helps our project team to track the progress and efforts accurately!"

What do you like best?

Design of the platform is very user friendly. Easy to track the efforts of team. Burn-down chart is really awesome to track daily effort. Really helpful for the project management who rely on agile or scaled agile. Able to get the reports accurately. Our team is much impressed with the product and they are starting their daily work with scrum call in morning and end up updating their work in evening call. For this, CA Agile is a very useful tool.

What do you dislike?

System gets hang sometimes and search functionality needs to be enhanced even more. Need to enhance the features of reporting and the home screen. UI screen can be made responsive and need to experience the features of this product in mobile as well. It is much appreciated if the product is made much user friendly, because at times we find it difficult to find the features within the screen. The system performance also need to be optimized.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I would recommend to my peers for using this platform. My organisation is widely using this platform in various projects recently for the project tracking and management purpose.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Able to use the platform for the strategic planning of Project works. Business is satisfied by the work and documentation done. We are also using the reports generated out of this CA agile for the weekly meeting and to present before our leadership meeting. Project team is able to mark their capacity and efforts. They can able to schedule and preplan their work needs to be done.

"Complete tool for Agile projects"

What do you like best?

The complete requirement of Agile process and workflows all in one tool. The tool has capability of running project on Kanban, Scrum, etc. Well structured and has different view/dashboards and customizable settings that helps each team member as well the Scrum master to view the project user stories easily. Reports can be pulled with various criteria and filters based on the team's need. Reports for technology team, business team, audit team can all be generated based on the need using the customize option. The custom tags are very helpful in segregating the user stories based on the project needs. The drag and drop of the user stories across various phases makes life easier.

What do you dislike?

Some of the options/buttons are not available when the user story is viewed in the short view at the right pane. Most of the options/buttons are visible in the detailed view only.

Recommendations to others considering the product

One stop tool for running agile projects.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The discussion board which is the option available for each user story eliminates the need to send out emails to business team rather the notification from the discussion board can be sent as automated email. Also any team user can obtain the status and progress from the discussion board.

"CA Agile Central makes it easier to track and measure EVERYTHING during iterative development."

What do you like best?

The customization of CA Agile Central means that each person can set up personalized dashboards according to their role and the metrics they are interested in.

What do you dislike?

The Split User Story feature could be easier to use--my new employees have a hard time figuring out how to split them without having to go back and re-structure the relationship of US/F/G/etc. A visual guide for deciding on the structure and a better drag-and-drop re-organization feature in certain views would be helpful.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you are using Agile/Scrum methodology or even iterative development that doesn't follow it directly, CA Agile Central is a great solution for tracking at every level--employee-level feature work and individual tasks, efficiency, and capacity; manager-level feature progress rolled up from all employees, release timeline estimations, and data to support planning and execution.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We have improved our accuracy in estimating release capacity and timelines and tracking team efficiency. We also better maintain our backlog and integrate more seamlessly into our software developers releases, iterations, and features. Documentation relies heavily on the software development and the tag feature has allowed us to align our features without being included in SW manager views and metrics.

"Absolutely the best way to do agile product ownership"

What do you like best?

I like the way you can set the stories to always be in edit mode, so you dont have to do anything to change a story

What do you dislike?

The implementation seems pretty slow no matter how many servers its running on

Recommendations to others considering the product

Put it on the fastest servers you can, with as much bandwidth as possible, as the updating of tasks can be quite slow.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We use it as the central hub for all of our agile development work, which means most teams doing development in our entire organization use it. It has certainly provided a strong basis for our move to agile.

"CA Agile Central has a lot of useful features"

What do you like best?

Organizing sprints, making user stories, linking stories, adding details, prioritization, easy to update, easy to use. It is good to easily share the links and user story numbers too.

What do you dislike?

Dependencies on stories are not well reflected. Even though I can make a predecessor or successor user story, it is not easy to see the respective dependencies and it is easy to make them get lost. Also, sometimes ranking does not reflect easily, especially because you cannot multi-select stories and bulk edit their ranking/prioritization. It is also hard to search for user story numbers and defect numbers.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It is useful for agile and scrum teams.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Business problems solved with Rally: organizing sprints and user stories. Also, it is easy to add prioritization for visibility to leadership, product management, and engineering teams. The history feature is also very good.

"CA Agile Review"

What do you like best?

I like the intuitive use of the US and Task creation, this is very useful for developing a work flow for the sprints, this makes a good match with the Agile methodology.

What do you dislike?

I don't like that the tool constantly freezes or doesn't update after a change is made that affects the sprinting or the user, sometimes keeps showing this when the changes was already applied. Also after a change is done instead of returning to the last page, it moves to home page, this stops the dynamics of the work and provokes frustration.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It's a great tool for planning and check across teams.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

"CA Agile is a great tool from planning to delivery. "

What do you like best?

I like that the different default features and pages are intuitively linked. The relationship between stories, iterations, defects etc are implicit and come together easily thanks to the default fields within each page. Automatically generated charts, particularly the burn down, are very useful to have available without expending any extra effort.

What do you dislike?

It would be great to have better ways to organize the backlog. When working with clients or remote teams, priority visualization is essential. We make fake stories and use HTML to create visible divisions in the backlog as a work around.

Tiered admin access would be helpful. Admin access, needed to make various customizations, is tied to the top level. This can be a challenge if there are multiple sub-teams that would like unique customizations within the same project.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I recommend CA Agile to others primarily based on its ease of use. Most importantly, it is fairly easy to spin up a new project and have all the major building block already in place. Customizations can come later, as the product does not require any of them to work.

There is a downside to the readiness. Creating new Kanban or Schedule states, and attempting to map them correctly, can require action in multiple different pages to make happen.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Keeping teams organized. Having ongoing documentation available for our clients. Centralized information repository. Test plan organization and Test Run execution. Organizational continuity among different teams, while still allowing for user case specific customization.

"Amazing product and a perfect example of Agile "

What do you like best?

I love it's Simplicity and usability. And more importantly, browser compatibility. All of it's features are well designed. Being a product owner, I am able to manage the stories, features, initiatives with ease.

The reporting is fantastic. Reports along with the dashboards help me in my day-to-day work.

I work across multiple projects and using the menus, I can navigate to various aspects of each project without any glitches.

For any help that I need, the rally videos are extremely helpful. They are so short and so easy to understand - their strength lies in their simplicity that's really difficult to achieve in today's world.

What do you dislike?

I love all of it's features. So I would answer this question as NONE :)

Recommendations to others considering the product

It's an amazing product and perfect for Agile developments and implementations.

"CA Agile Central (Rally) Really helps to do thing better and gives best outcome with in the time."

What do you like best?

Our client is large organization and it's pretty hard to manage all the teams and track the progress. We went through hard times before we started using Rally. CA Agile Central (Rally) helped us organize all the work done by the respective teams in their sprints and to connect it to features. It was amazing in tracking the individual and team progress. I was pretty much impressed with story tracking, hours allocation etc. It made our job much easier and Even our scrum master was very effective in handling the Rally. I would certainly recommend CA Agile Central (Rally) for all the organizations irrespective their size and teams.

What do you dislike?

I haven't any major cons with Rally. Its pretty much good and I feel their should be some improvements in handling user interface.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We are very much effective in tracking all the stories for every sprint like backlog stories, committed stories etc.., We solved the main issue what we are able to get rid of our sprints is our progress tracking. Rally made us very easy to track all the individual and teams progress along with the stories.

"Average tool for agile with really bad UX"

What do you like best?

The new interface allows quick editing and I like that it allows to create user stories with relative ease and like the linking of defects to user stories and epics, backlog item creation is easy

What do you dislike?

Cannot set up templates that are shared standards across the whole team for bug submission, story submission and acceptance criteria

The test database and management of test cases is messy and not intuitive and is lacky of many features, need to re-engineer this aspect of the product as it is below par.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Make sure you track your test cases using a different solution, probably look for alternative sw unless you are obliged to use it I wouldn’t recommend

What do you dislike?

Not many (I like it a lot)

- interfase some how hard and complex to navigate (to expect from such a large set of tools though)

- slow iteration planning process

- limited regression test management. In CA

"CA Agile Central (Rally) provides a great way to manage Agile projects"

What do you like best?

I like how easy this tool is to manage epics, features, stories and tasks. There are dashboards that provide friendly and useful metrics at the team, program and portfolio levels that help get an easy and quick visual representation of what's going on. I like the integration with quality section where teams can enter test plans and link them to the sprint stories and tasks. And I also like the way dependencies are represented among stories.

What do you dislike?

If you're used to other commercial test management tools (such as HP ALM), CA Agile Central (Rally) is not as powerful. If you're used to tools like Jira, CA Agile Central is not as flexible to manage your projects, boards and dashboards.

Recommendations to others considering the product

You may want to consider other test tools for test management. You may want to learn or to have people that know how to write gadgets for this tool.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

CA Agile Central (Rally) helps organize all the work done by sprint teams and to connect it to features and epics at the program and portfolio levels. It provides quick and easy visual representation of progress and dependencies, and is an easy tool to facilitate Agile ceremonies and to provide valuable metrics.

"Best project management tool."

What do you like best?

Rally is very useful, well organized project management tool. This is the foundation for agility. Improve cycle time and it significantly impact your bottom line.It sets priority levels on task so individual can organize their work. It has many features like cost tracking, resource management etc which are very useful. It alerts users about due date, workflow and if there is any change in project.

What do you dislike?

it takes time for beginners to use the software. The UI is not so good they should improve UI. And it don't have mobile app or solution. This makes it very hard to keep up with. So every time we need to open laptop.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you want to accelerate the pace of innovation, improve productivity and more effectively then use rally.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

keeping the track of work progress, due dates and resource management was difficult , cause of it we couldn't concentrate on the project. After using Rally software we could complete the projects in-time, and it helped in time ,resource management.

"Next level project management tool"

What do you like best?

Although it has a tone of views, options, configs, it manages to keep it all under a great looking UI. It's easy for project managers to add new user stories, tasks, it's also easy for developers and qa's to track their work and see what's in progress, which tasks haven't been picked up yet.

What do you dislike?

Not being able to predefine or set a default set of tasks per new user story created with predefined owners set. A bit of slowness in different screens, nothing major but it could be improved in my opinion.

Recommendations to others considering the product

They have a trial version also so give that a spin before making the switch. Be willing to give it a try before returning to what you're using now, it takes some time to get used to if you've only been using another tool all your life.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Managing a big software project for a software company with a lot of teams, each with it's pm's, devs, qa. Reporting is easy, checking if the other teams are on track is easy, completing work, choosing tasks to work on, all that is easy as it should be.

"We use CA Agile Central (Rally) to track work for a team of process analysts on a large project"

What do you like best?

One of the features that I really like is the ability to define your own views. You can create any number of views and each one can be setup to show a particular set of data, with customized columns, sorting, and grouping.

CA Agile Central is very flexible and easy to configure.

What do you dislike?

Some processes are a little cumbersome. We created a hierarchy of user stories. Each user story ultimately has a set of tasks associated with it. When you need to update a large number of tasks for these user stories, it takes quite a bit of cumbersome navigation to get it done. Perhaps there is a better way to do this in the system, but if so, it was not obvious/intuitive.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Our organization uses the product to track user stories for many large projects, keep track of estimates, tasks, and time remaining. I belong to a group of process analysts and we have created our own project to track the process-related work that we need to complete. It allows each of the team members to keep track of the work that they need to finish, and provides our managers with the ability to easily report on our progress.

"Agile Planning Made Easy"

What do you like best?

Attractive, feature-rich web interface allows for easy planning and collaboration between and amongst teams, even when distributed across multiple locations. Easy to generate reports and charts to track the status of projects as well as performance of teams and individual team members.

What do you dislike?

Being an external service, you are subject to outages which happen a little too frequently. There is so much information and so many features that it can be difficult to find what you are looking for.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It works really well for our (fairly large) organization. You will definitely need something to collaborate across any sizable workforce and CA Agile Central gets the job done (most of the time). I don't know of any comparable alternative.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

What do you dislike?

well the speed of reloading of page is sometimes slow, I see some bugs well they have regular maintenance on it.

Lately, I've been facilitating a project with our Kanban board - it's been quite helpful to visible communicate status updates and address tasks. "Missing a few key features but overall a good product"

What do you like best?

It is a very good product and we use to to manage all our features. Good user interface made it very easy to navigate and use on a daily basis.

What do you dislike?

Coming from Target Process I really miss being able to view attachments without having to first download them. But, otherwise was very happy. Also, the roadmap feature was not very flexible so we were not able to use it and continued to do it in Powerpoint.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you're looking for a solution that will be around for a while, this is a good one. If you're more flexible and don't mind moving data, there are other less expensive solutions.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Prioritizing all the features we want to do and maintaining a living roadmap. We have consolidated all information into Rally and now even use it during demos to show iteration metrics.

"Great Product + New Innovations "

What do you like best?

I like the customization of CA Agile Central. I've used it in various different capacities, and I enjoy the simplicity and effectiveness of the main features. There are also many potential areas our organization could be using the product, and I look forward to exploring those more in depth in the future.

What do you dislike?

I wish their alerts were a little more intuitive. Also, custom fields still do not always allow full customization desired (ex. setting defaults, etc.).

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

This is allowing our company to proactively plan and execute our product upgrades. Our team has been made much more efficient and effective using the product, and the continued upgrades to customization have been appreciated.

"Reasonable for project management and agile development management"

What do you like best?

The ability to create user stories and attach them to specific release cycles, and then prioritize them.

What do you dislike?

The overall organization system is confusing, even after using the program for months on a daily basis. It's just not intuitive.

Additionally, it would be helpful to be able to create specific requirements for user story entries. Instead, we had to ask our team to put certain information in the free-form text box and then hope they followed the rules.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It takes time to spin up. I would recommend you have at least 1 person familiar with using CA Agile Central in order to make it easier to move quickly in the beginning.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We are solving the need to appropriately manage our agile development lifecycle. The ability to communicate has allowed us to work across timezones and countries in a way that would have required more calls and more time otherwise. So, in short, it has helped with efficiency.

Additionally, we were able to use this to manage our UX Design team and their lifecycle in the same manner. So it allowed us to put some process and organization around a team that previously had none.

"Difficult To Trust CA Agile Central, Which Makes Work Much More Manual"

What do you like best?

The system is quite flexible and customizable.

What do you dislike?

The system doesn't seem to work very well with the way we manage features with user stories, then iOS- and Android-specific child stories underneath that. I wish the team developing this tool had a better understanding of this and gave us ways to manage and track that-- that many user stories (with the same requirements) will need to be developed across a number of platforms (which will be tracked in separate user stories).

Recommendations to others considering the product

Work with CA Agile Central to make sure your exact use case / needs are configurable within their system.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I try to minimize friction and loss of details when requirements are communicated across teams: from business, to developers, to testers.

"Works well and going in the right direction!"

What do you like best?

Best thing about Rally is that it works well and its very very flexible. Flexible in the sense that it can fit into any structure you need to. It is the best way to do agile as of now. It gives a very easy and clean way to handle your project management work. Plus its also flexible enough that you can add whatever you think is missing. In one word its quite robust!

What do you dislike?

Well, it can be a nightmare for someone who has just started using it. It takes time to figure out how it works and things are categorized. Plus its not very user friendly to start with. And recently their servers have takes a toll, and we had instances of loss of data. Plus, they don't have mobile app or solution. This makes it very hard to keep up with. Every time you need to check something, you need a device with a big screen

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We have a big team, distributed all over the world. And we work on Agile strategy. So its very important for us to keep track of work that is done by each individual at a granular level. Specially because we have lot of 3rd party consultants who get paid based on hours they spend. So it essential to keep track

"Clunky UI discourages use of its features"

What do you like best?

It's quite feature-rich: most everything you need to prioritize, add details to a feature description or bug, plan sprints/releases, and track progress of work on a regular basis is in Rally. As a product/project management tool, it's pretty much fine and hits all the nails that you need to keep a well-oiled, process-rich engineering team going.

What do you dislike?

The UI looks like it was built in the Windows '95 era, and everything takes three times as many clicks as it should. Things are slow to load, and notifications and integrations with other products is *extremely* limited, so everything that happens in Rally pretty much stays in Rally. But few product/engineering teams these days use only 1 tool, so not having those integrations and more robust notifications to facilitate collaboration is actually a huge cost to our team. When engineering works on a task and has a clarification question (e.g. for product, design, etc), adding it to the "discussion" on that story/bug is no guarantee that anyone else will notice it and respond. This has created a lot of friction and slowed progress.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Do your diligence and test out other project/product management tools thoroughly! Really throw yourself into each trial and see if it'll work for your team and its unique workflow and set of processes.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Organization, consolidation and cohesion across engineering and product workflows, facilitation of planning.

"CA Agile Central"

What do you like best?

Ability to build releases and support agile

What do you dislike?

Cannot prevent completed releases from appearing, cannot put a release on parent tasks. I do not like the way the parent work items i general are handled. FOr longer lived products there is no way to limit the 'clutter or noise'

Recommendations to others considering the product

make sure you test with complete and in progress projects

Also pay attention to how parent work items are handled if you tend to have tasks that may not be completed in a single iteration

What do you dislike?

Dependency reporting lacking. Recycle function not showing the details of the user story (unless undeleted). Recycle function should not be allowed but should just be a STATUS. Test Case reporting across user stories and defects hard to figure out

Recommendations to others considering the product

"Rally helped realize the promise of Agile"

What do you like best?

Rally is very easy to use and to customize. This has aided in the acceptance of the product in our development and business teams. Besides using it for managing our Agile teams performance we use it for managing the project approval process and our project portfolio.

Most teams, over time, have gravitated to using Kanban boards their standup meetings for a quick view of their progress. A Rally User Story hierarchy application is also useful for overall progress and being able to drill down to individual stories and tasks.

What do you dislike?

Rally's customer service has dropped somewhat as they have created a community portal to solve problems or request support. The portal isn't intuitive for many colleagues and as subscription administrator I get a lot of requests for help. However once to do request support from Rally it is very good.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Rally uses a monthly license model. There is no concept of a viewer license. It is a full license or nothing.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Before we selected an ALM tool we had different groups managing their projects with a verity of tools. Trying to roll up project information to get a enterprise view was essentially impossible. Managing IT and business projects in one tool has given us the visibility we needed for resource and capacity planning. We has realized not only a 7% increase in project throughput but almost 70% of our projects are completed on time because of the increased visibility.

"My view of Rally software"

What do you like best?

It has most of the features you need from a software that is used to manage an Agile software development cycle.

What do you dislike?

Some of the reports are not as useful or provide expected information. I am not a great fan of their new UI with the iteration and find myself keep going back to the old version. For instance filtering option on the Iteration page where it used to be one click now needs 2 or 3 and also some filtering options are no longer available.

Recommendations to others considering the product

As an admin, setup a test account where new users could play around and learn the software without worrying about messing things up.

As an admin provide a quick overview of the modules of the software to ease the introduction to the software which allows user to get a head start.

As a user view as many of the training lessons and videos available.

For Rally, I think it would be nice if there were a curriculum that user could follow and be sure that s/he has covered all related topics.

For Rally, sample of various queries that user can add to their custom views, in particular where there master/child record data such as searching change logs.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We use Rally to manage all aspects of software development cycle. After becoming familiar with concept of Agile development you can use this software well. We could benefit from additional reporting options or ways to export data from other views.

"I have used Rally Tools on and off since 2008 in many differing capacities."

What do you like best?

Rally flat out does what it is supposed to do. Tracks and gives it's users a visual representation to what is happening in your Agile Projects/Releases if you are using Scrum or Kanban. Without any custom coding you have access to all of the data and charts needed to improve your teams performance (Sprint Charts, Release Charts, Story Charts, and many more caned reports). It also offers a robust notification system say if a Story is ready to be accepted the PO can be automatically emailed. They go a step further to providing custom reporting by way of 1) IF-ELSE conditional and 2) reports done with JavaScript that can do just about anything you want. Between all of that, their Administration system and their recent inclusion of Insight and Flowdock tools it is a highly functional tool for both the beginner and advanced Agile Team and Agile Organization.

What do you dislike?

While the Community Edition for beginners is easy to set up and use the nature of any top notch highly robust software that solves complicated problems can have a steep learning curve. You really learn Rally in steps. Beginning, Intermediate, Advanced and even beyond that. For instance you need to a very adept developer who has a good handle on Agile Development, how it is represented in the Rally Tool and have great software skills to code the right JavaScript if you want great custom reports, If you are a fairly large organization you may need to dedicate one person to being the admin for your system (closing projects, adding people, removing people, being a liaison with Rally, etc.) I don't necessarily think these are negatives as much as outflows of a robust system.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Successful Agile software projects in many different industries (travel, telecommunications and medical). Rally has helped track and respond to empirical data trends and enable better decision making based on what is happening "on the ground".

"Fantastic software for project management"

What do you like best?

Love the flexibility for different project types, and the visualization tools make it fairly easy to know who is working on what. Once that is done it is fairly easy to go to more granular views of the tasks, their state, tasks, and so on. Overall the software is easy to use with a pretty minimal learning curve.

What do you dislike?

The previous UI for Rally was much better at color-coding (the new one has everything as blue which, while pretty enough, is not as quick at relying info)

The pie chart view has not been very useful to our particular needs

Rally works on the idea of one-person one-task, but we frequently do team-programming on tasks. This makes it harder to go back and figure out what each person was working on (unless specifically listed in the story description, but that info doesn't belong there).

Stories carrying over into new sprints is currently a bit nebulous in regard to how they affect burn-downs and such. Eg. if a 3 point story has 2.5 points completed, when we carry it over it still seems like a 3 point story and we have to do mental mathematics to figure out how much work there is left / how much we can take on. Not difficult, but leads to inconsistencies between how teams use the tool and is messy.

Kanban still feels a bit uncomfortable to me personally.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Great software, absolutely give it a try!

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Coordinating teams in a variety of scrum-lite projects. The current project is playing out more kanbansince there are a lot of user-requests interrupting a standard scrum plan. We tried using the iteration status method but we will likely be switching to the Kanban view shortly. The project before this one was a more traditional development project and knowing our velocity for each sprint was more critical, rally's iteration status worked great for that.

"Great visualization, missing a key detail for day-to-day usability"

What do you like best?

Great visualization tools and lots of customization on how to see work progressing throughout the sprint. Gives you lots of options to change the what you see and how you see it, way beyond the other tools I've used.

What do you dislike?

The biggest thing it's missing is an important one in my mind and that's the ability to tag a person in a specific ticket. In other words, I'd like to be able to use "@johnsmith" and have it notify that person via email (or within the system) that there is something that needs their attention. Right now there is no way to do that and it makes it very challenging to know when there is something that needs your attention unless you are constantly monitoring the sprint boards. It's something that exists on other platforms that I've found really lacking here and it's a tough one to manage.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We needed a development tracking tool that gives us the ability to monitor our weekly development progress and be able to easily report on how we've done over time. In that sense, this tool has hit the mark.

"Versatile and useful"

What do you like best?

I like the ability to see the the initiatives (epics, features, stories, etc.) in multiple lenses. It is easy to navigate between the initiatives. The kanbans are helpful.

What do you dislike?

I dislike that everyone can make changes (like creating epics). As someone who tracks changes in Rally, I often manually have to see what changes have been made.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We are using Rally for web and app planning and development using Agile methodologies. Easy to move epics to other releases. Easy to edit epics.

"Great to organize test cases and track issues all in the same place."

What do you like best?

What I liked best was that it was really easy to organize test cases and track issues all in the same place and they were all linked to a specific story or task.

What do you dislike?

It's been a few years since I've used the software, and I really can't remember anything I disliked about it. I've done QA and UAT testing at a few companies, and I've liked Rally software the best.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It is very easy to use and understand. It is the best software I have used so far for test cases and issue tracking. I would definitely recommend it to anyone in my field, and I even recommended it at my current company.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We were using the Rally software for test case / task organization and issue tracking while testing the HR software that our company produced.

"Tracking Milestones in CA Agile Central"

What do you like best?

The ability to Plan --> Timeboxes --> Milestones is a easy way to ensure communication between R&D and Business Users. Each side can track when a user story will be finished and what to expect from its feature/functionality.

What do you dislike?

Exporting to different formats (csv) for working sessions does not provide all levels of detail.

Recommendations to others considering the product

More export options and level of detail to capture.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Keeping business users up to date on user story readiness. The use of milestones provides a level of self sufficiency.

"User Friendly"

What do you like best?

The layout of the software is such that I can navigate it quite easily, or, for very few times when I cannot, support is readily available.

What do you dislike?

Sometimes I find the speed to be lacking, however, I'm not sure if that would be CA's fault, or my organization's.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We're looking to CA for organizing the governance of projects, and it is allowing us to have more control and organization over our outcomes.

"Generic entry for agile and scrum teams"

What do you like best?

At it's heart the service is a bare bones, easy to conceptualize project management suite.

What do you dislike?

Lack of features or customization, in a crowded market this makes the product hard to recommend.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Look around, there are many other options in this space that provide similar offerings with more flexibility.

"Powerful yet Awkward"

What do you like best?

Capacity to share unlimited files across the organization

What do you dislike?

Not intuitive at all. The one size fits all requires nonsensical entry and very complex procedures for simple record entry.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Consider the level of c complexity and carefully think out naming conventions for controls where they can be modified. This product takes a very long time to familiarize yourself with. We are past one year and it's constantly causing frustration and bickering.

"My first experience with Agile"

What do you like best?

We used it as a hosted solution, which meant all we needed to worry about was using the product. It provided all the key features we wanted in an agile project management software.

What do you dislike?

While it did have all the key features we wanted, it did lack some customization.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Make sure to confirm your workflow. Rally is not as extensible as some other solutions on the market, but it does work right out of the box.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It allowed us to better manage our projects, and it gave all the developers and operations people better visibility. Our project manager organized all of our work in the product which was way easier than using physical cards.

"Rally for Business Analysts in Agile Software Development"

What do you like best?

I like the portfolio items the best, as it gives a quick view of the requirements the team is working on.

Also the fact we can have our customized views.

What do you dislike?

The new version of Rally does not show the 'Notes' section in Portfolio Items as before. I heavily used it to indicate the status such as TBD items indicating feedback is being awaited from Business user using 5 words at max.

I also do not like the new version's display for features, stories, etc as it is too spreadout.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

My team has multiple product owners as a result prioritization is a bit tricky process and also maintaining a record of follow-up items, the requirements gathered until the latest meeting were all managed and consolidated using Rally.

The business users also could view their requirements' priority in comparison to other requirements and get a view of the workload handled by the team and thus estimate a rough timeline for delivery of the requirements.

I love the history tab of a story.

What do you dislike?

I find the UI clumsy and not elegant. I don't like the font size and font family.
