"Implementation And Upkeep Is A Breeze, But The Feature Set Is Limited"

What do you like best?

Relatively easy to use after implementation. 'Single pane of glass' type interface. Rollout methodology was fairly painless (URL enrollment or remote package install). While our use-case is fairly basic, it tends to 'just work.'

What do you dislike?

Feels a little old. Competitors have slicker and more intuitive interfaces. The mobile apps, for example, are almost useless.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Compare feature-sets from the other leading MDM solutions (there are a lot more now than when we implemented). Further, several other vendors have gotten much more competitive in pricing (even though we are grandfathered into the Meraki legacy pricing model). Basically, there is a lot more competition in this space and Meraki no longer wins the price/feature set battle. That being said, the feature-set works for our equipment setup (99% Mac + iOS) and we do not necessarily need to pay more for other systems' unnnecessary features. We contemplated a switch to VMWare AirWatch last year but the headache of the transition was enough to dissuade management. AirWatch offers much more fine tuned granual control over things like App whitelisting and URL restrictions etc. which would be nice, but are not necessarily mission critical.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

ON premises and remote device management, security enforcement, geofencing and remote analytics. We can route particular devices to specific VLANS and VPN groups, as well as manage client level access/software/permissions on a fairly granular level. Basic things like password rotations, app whitelisting, etc is a breeze

"Cisco Meraki"

What do you like best?

Meraki offers a cost effective network solution for the access layer. The product offers a user friendly interface that allow the solution to be management by a junior engineer with a basic understanding of networking.

What do you dislike?

Because the solution is cloud based, your ability to troubleshoot and configure devices is dependent on the cloud being available. There's no way to console to devices to make changes if required.

Recommendations to others considering the product

This is a great option if you're a smaller to medium sized organization with a small IT staff. The system is reliable but it's important to understand that there's a trade off with it being a cloud solution. There's no way to console into devices if the cloud is down for some reason. Overall it provides a great one stop shop for you access layer as they offer switches, access points, VPN solutions and decent security features.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The biggest benefit is the low cost of the solution in comparison to traditional catalyst solutions. Meraki also provides high visibility into what's being connected to your network. This solution is great for small to medium sized organizations that aren't doing a lot of intense configuration on the access side of the house. The dashboard provides a single pane view into your network.

What SD-WAN solution do you use?

"Meraki is very easy for the novice - A Pain for the Pro"

What do you like best?

Meraki makes creating networks very easy and intuitive. The Web GUI is very pleasant and support is one of the best I've seen to a degree.

What do you dislike?

If you are fairly advanced in IT, you'll begin to see the limitations of it since it doesn't use CLI. Some options aren't available, some options have been broken for a while and somethings support doesn't even know to to fix.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you're looking to use client VPN or non meraki peer VPN - Don't get this. Other than that, this is a very good product and I would recommend this to most IT companies.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We use Meraki to connect all our remote sites using their site to site VPN. Which is one of the best I've used. You can configure an entire site from the dashboard without ever lugging in the equipment first. Soon as it gets turned on, it'll pull its config down from the cloud and just work

"Great for Smaller Installations"

What do you like best?

As a large Cisco shop we utilize controller based AP's for our main campus, but for smaller offices (typically less than 10 AP's we utilize Meraki. Meraki provides a an easy method of installing these offices, and simplified maintenance. The maintenance is scheduled off hours (you define the time) and does not require any intervention, you just receive an email stating that it occurred successfully. The could portal provides great insight into the environment, and allows you to make adjustments or create reports.

What do you dislike?

It is licensed by device so in addition to purchasing the devices you need to purchase a license for x amount of years so even though you purchased the hardware you have to continue to purchase licenses to use it. This is a fair trade off for using the portal but could get expensive. There is also some difficulty in making fine grained adjustments to radio power. Also it would be nice to include 802.1x support using the portal w/o requiring a radius infrastructure.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Cisco/Meraki makes it easy to trial. You can usually obtain a free AP by watching a webinar. From there you can learn how to use the portal and configure any specific options you desire. Also take advantage of community resources (user groups, industry specific listservs, etc. ) to learn how others have had successes or challenges in their implementations.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We have been able to quickly provide wireless and wired service to small installation throughout the country. Also maintenance is simplified so fewer technical resources are required to maintain.

"Simplify your network"

What do you like best?

There are many things that I like about Meraki products period. The bandwidth throttling and easy to configure interfaces are top notch. Meraki allows you to optimize the network and focus on eliminating unnecessary complexity. You can quickly learn how to implement a robust platform that basically maintains itself.

What do you dislike?

I have been using Meraki for years with my clients. I was concerned when Cisco purhased them but I have to say that nothing seemed to change except for more products and services being offered.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you want an easy to deploy environment that you can fully manage through a single instance, Meraki is the way to go.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The ROI is very competitive and there isn't an environment so far that I haven't been able to address with Meraki. I love the ability as an MSP to fully manage a multi-tenant portal.

"Cisco meraki a good product "

What do you like best?

The thing I like the best would have to be the accessibility of the software. Something else I liked about the system is how simple the functions can be, although I only manage to use the basics of the software rather than dig deep into the many other functions of the Cisco meraki

What do you dislike?

The thing I dislike the most is the complex layout of the system, it makes navigating the software very difficult. Another thing I disliked was the color scheme of the software, it made everything very difficult to concentrate on. I found that it was best to just use the most common features rather than explore the other possibilities in function.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The business problems I usually solve with Cisco Meraki are to find improvements in our current business and work model. The thing I like the best would have to be the accessibility of the software.

"Reliable but customer service stinks when you do have issues"

What do you like best?

The Cisco name is always my first choice. As always this product has been pretty reliable.

What do you dislike?

Customer service - we have had issues with our network and Meraki said they were overnighting us a part and sending someone.. three techs came before the part did weeks later and some of my guests were without internet access in the meantime.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Our property has had Meraki equipment installed since I began working for them. When we have issues they tend to take a while to solve but for the most part this system provides reliable internet access to all 170 units on my property.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We finally got the parts installed and have internet access throughout our peopery.
