"Excellent Experienced Based Learning"

What do you like best?

I love that as you work through the courses there are min-tests. You need to past the test to move on. If you do not pass the test after 2 attempts you need to re do the modules. I also like that throughout the course there are sims where you actually do the work. It is not just Nuggets where you watch and move on. You actually need to work your way through the courses. I also love the team dashboard so that if you have a work account you can challenge each other and hold each other accountable.

What do you dislike?

I really wish they had some PowerShell Courses or Power CLI for VMWare. The offerings they have are great but I really wish it was more extensive, especially being on the Systems side of Sysops.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Code School in and of itself is great, but they were bought by Pluralsight. With a pluralsight account you get Code School for free and have access to far more courses across both libraries.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It gives greats hand on learning platform. It helps me explore new technologies we are looking at implementing. Or growing my skills on those already in use. I love that it is a whole library of courses, and learning paths. I can do a specific course, or the whole path depending on how much I need to learn. I also appreciate the gamification of the badges you can earn and compare. It is an amazing platform. And if you have full access to Pluralsight you get this for free.

"Great place to keep up to date with software development skills."

What do you like best?

Code School has a wide variety of courses to learn coding skills, mostly web development skills. From Javascript basics, to cutting edge tech & tools like React, Angular, and many others.

The platform offered to go through these courses is awesome, with well-explained lectures followed by coding challenges that can be solved within the app. The experience is really pleasant.

What do you dislike?

I would like them to put some courses for free for a limited period of time, for example a weekend, so people that are not paying to use the product, could at least take advantage of these offers if they're interested.

They could also offer more variety of paid plans, they just have two choices: "free", and "paid". Maybe they could organize this in a better way, so people could pay a bit less to access less content, something like that, this is just a brief idea.

It would be great to make challenges a bit more "challenging", so course evaluations have more value.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you're passionate about software development, and would like to keep up building your skills, this is definitely the place to go.

Even if you're a beginner in software development, there are lots of courses for you, and believe me when I say it's fun to learn here.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I use Code School to keep me up to date with the latest tech & tools to build software apps. This is essential for every software developer, and Code School makes it fun as well.

"An awesome and fun way to learn new technologies for web developers"

What do you like best?

Code School is regularly updating their content so they are constantly relevant for the most part. In addition, their courses are in bite-sized chunks making them easy to digest as well as to do some and come back to them. Each course has a theme song which are often catchy and amusing too. Their course content is very high quality all the way around.

What do you dislike?

While mostly relevant, they are occasionally slow to get some of their courses out there. The React one was just released in late April, 2016, for example. Their library is growing but could be larger. I suspect this will happen now that Pluralsight owns them; and given the quality of the content, it's understandable that they are not just churning it out. My only real complain is the cost; while $29/month is worth it, there's so many options/alternatives to them these days that it seems like they could bring that down.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you are in the web development industry already, or just getting started, and looking for a website to learn from, Code School provides high quality content and great teaching style. Their courses are also fun and once you get started it becomes almost addictive. It's very easy to complete most of their courses within a few hours if not quicker. I highly recommend Code School.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I've used Code School on and off for over 5 years to learn new technologies and better understand some I already know. The way they approach teaching is both fun and effective.

"Attractive, rich and engaging way to learn even advanced concepts"

What do you like best?

Best thing in Code School is that it presents learning materials in very attractive way. Videos are great and often have their own songs for teaching programming concepts. Videos and slides are very good introduction to topic and learning source, but then you have to write code in environment that is very similar to actual programming job. Code School gives you advice if you did good in real-time and sometimes you have also steps on how to achieve somewhat more complicated task. Everything in a mix with lots of quality content gives great experience to any developer who is eager to learn.

What do you dislike?

To me some courses very far too easy and didn't have more professional, advanced alternative (I'm talking about Ember.js specifically). Also I had issues in my browser on 1366x768 resolution. Sometimes certain elements of page were displayed so I couldn't interact with them and had to restart whole part of course to be able to complete lesson and move forward.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Code School is great way to learn. Seems like Pluralsight wants to integrate it to its courses so I guess whole platform for learning will have lots of quality content in 1 big platform.

If someone is looking for attractive way to learn programming there are also other things to consider like learning by "playing game" (writing logic for characters to complete quests etc.), but Code School gives very professional experience and seems like it's best platform out there for interactive programming learning while writing code in practical cases.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

You have to learn to be better programmer. Every programmer probably has his/hers weak sides and I've used Code School to, for example, have better understanding of how Regular Expressions work. By the way, course on Regular Expressions - Breaking Ice is amazing.

"Codeschool has gotten me a job!"

What do you like best?

The videos! They make the explanation as easy as it can get. The editing and the animation effects are very cool, the video is very well produced. Also, the fact that they aren't too long, so it helps a lot for learning, because it keeps us really focused.

Another thing is the gamification, it's a very good feeling when you complete a course and get a badge. I love to share them on my twitter.

What do you dislike?

It depends on the course, but most of the times, I feel like they don't go very deep into a subject. So Code School is very good for beginners, but when you want to go to the next level and learn more advanced stuff, I usually have to look for other resources. Also, even though the videos are very good, I feel like their video player doesn't follow the same quality. I often have problems with it reloading the content, or getting stuck at some part. (My connection is good!)

Recommendations to others considering the product

The money you invest, will sure return to you! :) It's a great product, and I really recommend!

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Just trying to learn the latest web technologies, and improve my skills. Over the years, It has helped me a lot! I even got a new job because of a skill I learned there (it was not the only reason, but it did help). It its the place I start when I want to learn something new.

"Amazing place to learn!"

What do you like best?

Code School is an amazing place to learn about technologies, in my case web technologies, The way that they use to teach is really interactive, they show you the path and guide you through it step by step, you can also watch some courses for free. The platform gives you certificates so if you care about it and want your profile on linked to look a little bit better it's a +1 for then. Another thing I like about it is the fact that it's a pluralsight company and I've been using pluralsight for a while now and they have some pretty good courses and even better teachers.

What do you dislike?

I don't really have any complaints for now, the platform has been solid, the UI has been great, also the videos are really fast so the server should be good. In the other hand I do have something to say about the UI of the video player, it could be better and more attractive for the users because the actual player is a common design and there is something users appreciate a lot, well ended design.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Take a chance and watch some clases, you could be interested in one of the courses they offer, you can see the intro class for free normaly so go ahead, it's really interactive.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Learning node js with real time applications, one of the major benefits is the online emulators taht allows you to practice your tasks.

"Useful for learning many programming languages and best practices"

What do you like best?

The best thing is exams on every chapters end, they are interactive and force you to write code, I learned the javascript best practices from it and I got my certificate. Lessons are fluent in English and self explanatory examples are quite good for people who are just getting started to programming. It also shows you off that how much progress you made in the team.

What do you dislike?

Need many more languages, firstly they should finish the Python course and upload it. There should be lessons of new era programming languages like Go.

Recommendations to others considering the product

After acquisition from Microsoft it gets better. Use it for learning best practices and new scriptinh programming languages.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We are using CodeSchool in learning management programme whole company benefits from it. We are also seeing what other people is studying and what they did so far.

"HIghly Recommended "

What do you like best?

I've been using code school for a year now - first as a beginner Javascript developer and now intermediate. Their courses are very thorough and always a great use of your time. They now also have a section with great screencasts about different topics in web development - and follow up projects to the courses which i especially liked. They are also always adding content and keeping things up to date.

What do you dislike?

The challenges part of the courses sometimes gets stuck/ runs very slow. Its very distracting at times. Membership is not very cheap. I would really like it if they offered student discounts!

Recommendations to others considering the product

Go for it. WIll definitely learn a lot and they are always updating their content.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

"Amazing, easy to learn and oriented from beginners to pros!"

What do you like best?

The content is amazing and the method to learn is easy to get. The themes, approaches and lectures are made for technicals and non-technicals - this makes the plataform ideal to beginners and people who whants improve their skills.

What do you dislike?

The price is bitter to brazilian students. Another problem is that I cant pay for paths, only to time oriented signup. I'd like to bought some paths and learn them when I have some extra time - but the signup made this impossible.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Code School is the best online source to learn. If you have some bucks to spent, time to use and discipline this is your choice - for sure! :)

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I want use the product to improve my skills and share to work colleagues some experience - and teach them about some things about front-end and Javascript.

"Quick, efficient and easy way to learn some code!!"

What do you like best?

It's multi-leveled learning. Are you best at learning listening to a lecture? This is for you. Are you best a learning watching examples being solved? This is for you! Are you best at learning by doing? This is still for you! Every lesson builds upon the lessons before it, and it continues to challenge the thinking of the user, while providing real-world examples and practical problem-solving scenarios.

What do you dislike?

At times it can get repetitive between lessons, but I think it's for a reason. It'd also be nice if it could be free forever, but it's totally worth it!

Recommendations to others considering the product

There are frequently trials, free weekends, and you can try most modules (at least the basics) for free! So, if you're on the fence, I'd recommend it! Some of the modules recommend certain textbooks and references, and I'd suggest that they would be very helpful if you're planning on using what you learn in Code School for daily tasks.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Learning new skills to solve software-related problems and automate chronic tasks that otherwise take time and effort.

"Covers a variety of topics, quizzes are easy and its based on the video tutorials you watch."

What do you like best?

The courses are structured into 5 units. The courses are part of front end and backend paths. Apart from these two tracks they have electives for learning git and chrome development tool. After learning from a particular topic they have quizzes as well as some challenges. The challenges are relatively easy and they also provide some hints if you are stuck in between, which you can redeem for the points you have earned. You earn points for completing challenges which makes it interesting and helps to focus on the important topics covered in the tutorials.

What do you dislike?

The challenges are based on the actual tutorial videos which are easier to solve. They matches exactly with the description in the video tutorials. They should increase the difficulty of the challenges.

Recommendations to others considering the product

They recently got acquired by Pluralsight, so I recently discontinued my subscription to codeschool and bought a pluralsight subscription.

"Cool product, but a bit pricey."

What do you like best?

I love the variety of tasks and the interface looks very cool. It is appealing, especially to teens and young adults.

What do you dislike?

The big downside is you have to pay for it, which makes it less of an option for my classroom use than I'd like. You can have a free account but it is very limited.

Recommendations to others considering the product

See what you can get with the free trial. Talk to the people who work there, they are very helpful.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It is a nice alternative for students who don't necessarily like the programs we use in class or who want to explore further independently.

"Learn by Doing"

What do you like best?

CodeSchool is an incredible platform to learn to code in a very interactive and fun way. The dynamics and the system of gamification is incredible, their teachers are very professional, the user interface is simple and intuitive, its courses are ordered by path, have free courses and some screencasts. The content they offer is high quality, much feedback is received by the instructures, the tests are set to material and classes given.

What do you dislike?

Should add more courses about javascript, classes and content are only in English.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Great for people who are starting or want to learn to code from scratch pro. It is also possible to enter the totally free courses.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

"Amazing Resource if you can Afford the Membership"

What do you like best?

First, I love the free month long trial. With other 'schools' or resources they just show you the titles of the premium content with a lock icon over it, you don't really even know what you're getting. With Codeschool, you get a full access premium membership to try out everything they have to offer. I also really like the slides that are available for download for the course. Not only is it great to not have be in your browser or have an internet connection all the time to learn, but you also now have the slides permanently on your machine.

What do you dislike?

The price, holy moly! This is by far the most expensive online resource that I've found. With other sites like lynda, etc. they have far more than a couple of programming languages, they have seo, photoshop, and much more - with those resources, I can justify the monthly membership.

I might be alone on this second part, but i'm not the biggest fan of the format. The videos are really long (which is fine) but it's hard to recall everything mentioned without referencing the slides

Recommendations to others considering the product

I would recommend the trial of this product to anyone but would only recommend the full paid service to a select number of people. For the monthly price point that Code School brings, you can't afford to just explore this product. I would highly recommend utilizing free services like codecademy first - once you've completed all that they have to offer and you're still 'itching' to learn more - you should either enroll here, or consider an in person immersive program.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I'm primarily using this tool for personal growth which easily reflects to being able to solve business problems. I chose to explore Code School to benefit from the variety of resources at my own pace; I just found that the product wasn't worth the price.

"Takes the guess work out of getting started"

What do you like best?

I love pluralsight but at times it was hard to know what materials were worthwhile and good for beginners, this takes all of the best materials for getting started and lays it all out in a friendly easy to navigate environment. the materials are all simple yet challenging. this is really the best way to learn.

What do you dislike?

It's a little barebones at the moment, with only a few courses offered. in a way I do hope they take their time to make sure that the lessons here are of a high quality and approachable. I have only gone through a few lessons but some of the basics get a little repetitive.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you have access to Pluralsight and have been looking for a friendlier way to get your feet wet in the world of coding this is far and away the best option for you.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

With this new addition to pluralsight I am learning more things at a much faster pace, and I find myself getting lost a lot less.

"Excellent Tool for IT Professionals! "

What do you like best?

Code School offers specific learning paths in their courses (and it's great to follow a specific topic path). The prices are usually offered monthly/annually (and most of them are reasonable), and the ability to try the beginner level course for free (as well as creating a free account) is great!

What do you dislike?

Code School should offer more professional IT courses, but there are links where you can suggest a course as well as a few surveys that were offered.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Try a specific beginner-level course (and if you don't like it, you can skip a certain path and try another one).

"Great videos for a start to end coding course"

What do you like best?

I like the easy to follow videos and the interactive code windows provided. It's easy to follow along without needing to have the actual software installed. The course walks through very beginner to advanced making it easy to follow along at your own pace.

What do you dislike?

I am looking forward to having more courses offered. There aren't very many currently, but the ones that I've used have been good.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Code school is a great tool for learning a code language from basic to advanced. It's easy to follow and great for all skill levels.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
