My experience using CompensationXL has been very satisfactory.

What do you like best?

CompensationXL is extremely user friendly and easy to explain to our managers. I also really love the support team at HCR software, they make understanding the CompensationXL tool very easy, since I am new to this role.

What do you dislike?

There's not anything that I really "dislike" about CompensationXL. However, since I am relatively new to my role as a Comp Analyst, I would really like to take a deeper dive into the new features that we now have since we upgraded to version 6.3.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I would highly recommend CompensationXL to any company that wants to make their merit cycles a breeze!

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

CompensationXL has provided us with an easy to use merit tool for our managers. With our recent upgrade to version 6.3, I am a huge fan of the reporting tools that I can easily create and review myself.

CompensationXL - Excellent Product Supported by First Class Service

What do you like best?

The software is extremely flexible in accommodating complex configuration requirements, yet the user interface is still very intuitive for our global employee population. We actually have two separate instances of CompensationXL, because we determined that the technology could meet multiple business needs in the areas of compensation planning and governance. The support we receive from Cindy Peterson is above and beyond anything I could have expected. She is a true partner to us and often feels like an extension of our team. We are notorious for making last minute changes and setting unreasonable deadlines, but Cindy (along with Rich and Mark) is always ready to accept a challenge and offer smart solutions. I cannot say enough good things about this product and these people.

What do you dislike?

I would like to see a regular update of records in CompensationXL versus the current situation which is a one-time data import at year end. The technology can and should do more for us throughout the year. This is not a criticism of HCR, but rather requires that we dedicate some internal resources to creating a scheduled data feed or integration.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

CompensationXL helped us eliminate manual manipulation of multiple Excel files throughout our organization. We have a clearly defined compensation planning and governance process spanning 20+ countries (and currencies) that is centralized and automated through the use of this software.

CompXL: An Intuitive Tool to Enhance Merit Planning

What do you like best?

It's an intuitive tool for HR Managers and Business Leaders to use. The tool required little training for HR Managers and Managers; thereby, it allowed all parties to focus more on the strategic aspects of compensation and less on administrative aspects. This has been a very useful tool in helping us evolve our compensation practices and drive to be a pay for performance company.

What do you dislike?

I would like to see more automation concerning how merit letters are generated from the system. Not all leaders log-in to print comp statement, so if the system was able to generate zip-files that are automatically sent to the HRBP or supervisor of record that would reduce the administrative burden.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We were able to transform our merit process from an administratively burdensome process to a more strategic exercise to drive a pay for performance culture.

Low cost, Big Results!

What do you like best?

The software has flexibility that allows each company to customize based on their specific needs. You can add HR Business Partners (or others as per business requirements) as proxy users so they may assist in the process when working with managers. We implemented single sign on (SSO) to ensure access to the tool is specific to internal IT security. As an administrative user, changes to the tool and/or formulas can be made in-house quickly and timely, without having to request it through the assigned technical representative at HCR (although this is always an option and they are very responsive). Once published, any new downloads from the site reflect the latest changes. Managers are able to work offline, and upload at a later time.

What do you dislike?

The initial training documents provided were not very robust and our company ended up having to create new customized documents that met our specific needs and communication style for our managers. Additionally, managers with multiple layers of lower level managers need to establish a timeline to ensure files do not overwrite lower level manager recommendations inadvertently. Ideally, the audit feature could be more robust as it is simple showing the last user to access the file, that being said, it still meets basic needs of who last uploaded a file.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I would recommend this software to meet the needs of salary planning, bonus, long term incentive awards, and employee total reward statement activities. In my experience, the level of support received to complete these activities in a timely manner has exceeded my expectations. The investment in this inexpensive solution has proved to be a valuable resource and has saved us time and money over using alternative vendors and in house teams, reducing manual manipulation of multiple spreadsheets and reducing human error. We have employees in 13 countries and the tool allows for multiple currencies and FX rates for ease of currency conversion for rollup reporting.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We were using spreadsheets for our annual salary and variable bonus pay programs. By using Excel to collect manager recommendations, we had to consolidate 40+ spreadsheets in a short timeframe in order to ensure executive management overview and input. We began looking for a software solution that could assist in streamlining this manual process and allowing more visibility to management at all levels in 'real time'. We've been using this tool for two years now and have added our LTI process last year with positive results. This year, we have kicked off a new project using the tool to produce Employee Total Reward Statements. Managers have found the tool to be user friendly and although it is a new platform for them, the look and feel of our internal spreadsheets remained intact, so the adoptability was seamless.

First implemented in March of 2015, we have used Compxl for 2 very successful compensation cycles.

What do you like best?

If you know excel, you will be very comfortable with CXL. Implementation is smooth user adoption quick and positive.

What do you dislike?

The user timeout is too short. System kicks you out even if you are active. Timeout needs to be adjusted.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Determine if you want cloud or on promise. If on premise, engage your IT and ensure that the installation and configuration of the application and database can be done by CXL engineers remotely within an hour. Once setup, use LDAP or single sign-on for authentication. Have solid requirements with and implementation plan. Plan to include the target participants early for UAT and document the process.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We needed a solution that was better than using excel but lighter than Workbench. We found that with CXL.

The system is very intuitive and user friendly. Technical support is amazing!

What do you like best?

The software is very intuitive and flexible to make changes/adjustments. Implementation was easy and uneventful. The reporting analytics are great. The team we work with at CXL is awesome.... they are always available and always turn things around quickly.

What do you dislike?

The process of updating employee demographics is a bit cumbersome, but not horrible.

Recommendations to others considering the product

The implementation team does a great job with listening to your needs. Don't be afraid to ask what the software can and can't do. You'd be surprised at the capabilities.

We have move to a focal merit process and utilizing the software has made it easy for us to track our merits in one centralized location and also track progress from our managers without having to share Excel spreadsheets back and forth and not having to track spreadsheet revisions. We can generate data analytics easily, which is helpful for our CFO.
