"The system is very intuitive and user friendly. Technical support is amazing!"

What do you like best?

The software is very intuitive and flexible to make changes/adjustments. Implementation was easy and uneventful. The reporting analytics are great. The team we work with at CXL is awesome.... they are always available and always turn things around quickly.

What do you dislike?

The process of updating employee demographics is a bit cumbersome, but not horrible.

Recommendations to others considering the product

The implementation team does a great job with listening to your needs. Don't be afraid to ask what the software can and can't do. You'd be surprised at the capabilities.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We have move to a focal merit process and utilizing the software has made it easy for us to track our merits in one centralized location and also track progress from our managers without having to share Excel spreadsheets back and forth and not having to track spreadsheet revisions. We can generate data analytics easily, which is helpful for our CFO.

"My experience using CompensationXL has been very satisfactory."

What do you like best?

CompensationXL is extremely user friendly and easy to explain to our managers. I also really love the support team at HCR software, they make understanding the CompensationXL tool very easy, since I am new to this role.

What do you dislike?

There's not anything that I really "dislike" about CompensationXL. However, since I am relatively new to my role as a Comp Analyst, I would really like to take a deeper dive into the new features that we now have since we upgraded to version 6.3.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I would highly recommend CompensationXL to any company that wants to make their merit cycles a breeze!

CompensationXL has provided us with an easy to use merit tool for our managers. With our recent upgrade to version 6.3, I am a huge fan of the reporting tools that I can easily create and review myself.

"CompensationXL - Excellent Product Supported by First Class Service"

What do you like best?

The software is extremely flexible in accommodating complex configuration requirements, yet the user interface is still very intuitive for our global employee population. We actually have two separate instances of CompensationXL, because we determined that the technology could meet multiple business needs in the areas of compensation planning and governance. The support we receive from Cindy Peterson is above and beyond anything I could have expected. She is a true partner to us and often feels like an extension of our team. We are notorious for making last minute changes and setting unreasonable deadlines, but Cindy (along with Rich and Mark) is always ready to accept a challenge and offer smart solutions. I cannot say enough good things about this product and these people.

What do you dislike?

I would like to see a regular update of records in CompensationXL versus the current situation which is a one-time data import at year end. The technology can and should do more for us throughout the year. This is not a criticism of HCR, but rather requires that we dedicate some internal resources to creating a scheduled data feed or integration.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

CompensationXL helped us eliminate manual manipulation of multiple Excel files throughout our organization. We have a clearly defined compensation planning and governance process spanning 20+ countries (and currencies) that is centralized and automated through the use of this software.

"CompXL: An Intuitive Tool to Enhance Merit Planning"

What do you like best?

It's an intuitive tool for HR Managers and Business Leaders to use. The tool required little training for HR Managers and Managers; thereby, it allowed all parties to focus more on the strategic aspects of compensation and less on administrative aspects. This has been a very useful tool in helping us evolve our compensation practices and drive to be a pay for performance company.

What do you dislike?

I would like to see more automation concerning how merit letters are generated from the system. Not all leaders log-in to print comp statement, so if the system was able to generate zip-files that are automatically sent to the HRBP or supervisor of record that would reduce the administrative burden.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We were able to transform our merit process from an administratively burdensome process to a more strategic exercise to drive a pay for performance culture.

"Low cost, Big Results!"

What do you like best?

The software has flexibility that allows each company to customize based on their specific needs. You can add HR Business Partners (or others as per business requirements) as proxy users so they may assist in the process when working with managers. We implemented single sign on (SSO) to ensure access to the tool is specific to internal IT security. As an administrative user, changes to the tool and/or formulas can be made in-house quickly and timely, without having to request it through the assigned technical representative at HCR (although this is always an option and they are very responsive). Once published, any new downloads from the site reflect the latest changes. Managers are able to work offline, and upload at a later time.

What do you dislike?

The initial training documents provided were not very robust and our company ended up having to create new customized documents that met our specific needs and communication style for our managers. Additionally, managers with multiple layers of lower level managers need to establish a timeline to ensure files do not overwrite lower level manager recommendations inadvertently. Ideally, the audit feature could be more robust as it is simple showing the last user to access the file, that being said, it still meets basic needs of who last uploaded a file.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I would recommend this software to meet the needs of salary planning, bonus, long term incentive awards, and employee total reward statement activities. In my experience, the level of support received to complete these activities in a timely manner has exceeded my expectations. The investment in this inexpensive solution has proved to be a valuable resource and has saved us time and money over using alternative vendors and in house teams, reducing manual manipulation of multiple spreadsheets and reducing human error. We have employees in 13 countries and the tool allows for multiple currencies and FX rates for ease of currency conversion for rollup reporting.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We were using spreadsheets for our annual salary and variable bonus pay programs. By using Excel to collect manager recommendations, we had to consolidate 40+ spreadsheets in a short timeframe in order to ensure executive management overview and input. We began looking for a software solution that could assist in streamlining this manual process and allowing more visibility to management at all levels in 'real time'. We've been using this tool for two years now and have added our LTI process last year with positive results. This year, we have kicked off a new project using the tool to produce Employee Total Reward Statements. Managers have found the tool to be user friendly and although it is a new platform for them, the look and feel of our internal spreadsheets remained intact, so the adoptability was seamless.

"First implemented in March of 2015, we have used Compxl for 2 very successful compensation cycles."

What do you like best?

If you know excel, you will be very comfortable with CXL. Implementation is smooth user adoption quick and positive.

What do you dislike?

The user timeout is too short. System kicks you out even if you are active. Timeout needs to be adjusted.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Determine if you want cloud or on promise. If on premise, engage your IT and ensure that the installation and configuration of the application and database can be done by CXL engineers remotely within an hour. Once setup, use LDAP or single sign-on for authentication. Have solid requirements with and implementation plan. Plan to include the target participants early for UAT and document the process.

We needed a solution that was better than using excel but lighter than Workbench. We found that with CXL.

"Highly recommended!"

What do you like best?

The software is highly flexible. Implementation was a breeze. Roll-out to management staff, including front-line managers who had never before participated in the STI process, consisted of an email and 4-minute video, and there were no questions asked. It was so smooth that I was actually on vacation when roll-out occurred. Our implementation contact, Cindy, addressed every question and change request quickly. She remained accessible throughout the process and was highly competent, making last minute changes on the fly and running up against "surprise"/tight deadlines (client fault). Her attitude was fantastic and despite many challenges, she never implied any frustration or complaint. I highly recommend this company.

What do you dislike?

Importing changes to our data was a little challenging. It would've been easier with canned templates because some fields needed to grouped. For example, when loading a change to appraisal score I had to include a custom field for default adjustment value. But, really, it's difficult to categorize this as a "dislike" since I chose to import myself, and enjoyed the challenge of it. Once I figured out a few things it was very easy. Also, our implementation team would've managed data changes if I had requested it.

Using Excel spreadsheets for STI has been a nightmare for the rest of our global organization because it is challenging to break apart the data and then consolidate it back again. Trusting users not to mis-sort rows, mess up formulas, and drop employees has been challenging. Auditing is time-consuming. Next year, all SBM affiliates will be using Compensation XL because it provides the power of a database (for approval workflows, data protection and reporting), with the ease of using spreadsheets. Cost was very reasonable.

The look and feel could be enhanced to improve user experience. Hierarchy changes can be a bit confusing.

We used to send out and receive hundreds of spreadsheets to collect our salary increase, incentive and equity recommendations. CompensationXL has allowed us to collect the data in a streamlined fashion which has saved time and cut down on data errors.

"Highly Recommend!"

What do you like best?

This software has endless opportunities. The program was customized to meet our company's needs. We have sites in both the US and EU and we were not limited in any such way. The software is also very intuitive. This was my first year to implement our comp planning, and I had little time for training. I was able to catch on very quickly. I was also pleased that our manager's have the ability to download their worksheets, and complete and upload their feedback at any time. The flexibility worked great with our population. I also found that being able to track where manager's were in their review process to be extremely helpful in the administration of our comp planning this year.

What do you dislike?

After manager's submit their feedback, I found it challenging to go back and make changes.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We moved to an online system that alleviated a lot of the manual administration. Little training had to be provided to our managers since the system is so intuitive, and manager's had the flexibility to complete their reviews on their own time.

"Compensation XL User Review"

What do you like best?

The system is easy to use and very intuitive. It has great reporting and analytics so HR can assess the process along the way and monitor managers progress. It has flexibility in what your organization needs to perform the Salary Planning activities. The team we worked with at CXL was great... always available and turned things around quickly

What do you dislike?

Wish it would allow a feed of employee data more frequently than just at the opening of the cycle.

It is a reasonable priced solution to your salary planning needs. You can keep the product as is or you can make custom changes for your specific process.

We perform our Global Salary Planning process through CXL. It is great because we are able to set business rules with the system and run reports. We allow access to managers and the regional HR folk to do their planning and it all rolls up to the top. We have an approval process that is set up for Sr. Level and Regional HR review. This has prevented us from sharing excel spreadsheets back and forth. It has allowed us to reduce the Salary Planning Cycle time.

"CompXL for Global Employers"

What do you like best?

The system is very easy to use. Our managers received very little training and were able to use the system with little to no support. The generated comp statements were very well received by the organization.

What do you dislike?

Can be challenging to set up security. We have a global workforce with multiple HR representatives. To limit security, we were required to set up employee groupings, which were visible to managers. While we received no complaints from our managers regarding this, it made it cumbersome for managers with large teams in multiple countries. Also, the system times out after 20 minutes without no prompt to save.

Discontinuing multiple spreadsheets. Having one source of data for compensation recommendations.

"Custom Configuration Made Easy"

What do you like best?

The client support team had the knowledge and understanding of compensation to configure exactly what we needed. The end result was a user friendly solution that met our compensation planning needs for merit and bonuses. They continued to develop enhancements and automations to keep up with our technical and compensation needs in a creative, time sensitive manner.

What do you dislike?

The product was stand alone and not integrated with our other solutions.

A good tool for a mid-sized company that is ready to take their planning to the next level.

We needed a solution that would be close to the excel spreadsheets we had used in the past but automated to keep up with our growth and rollup ability. We also needed a way to capture our bonus plan in a more organized and formula driven way.

"Wonderful Customer Service"

What do you like best?

The Account Representative/Systems Specialist assigned to our account is amazing. So responsive and quick to help us during our most busy time of the year!

What do you dislike?

I do wish there was a little more functionality on the reporting side when it comes to what you would use for Executive Reviews.

CompXL has allowed us to consolidate our communication documents when it comes to Salary Increases, PA Ratings, and Annual Incentive Payouts.

"confusing - new with little support"

What do you like best?

not sure yet - it was our first year and for us to continue with this product we would need to make some modifications.

What do you dislike?

Customer service from Cindy Peterson - she was short and rude most times. We were new employees to the software and in a short window we needed to pick it up and complete our comp cycle.

"Great product with outstanding support! "

What do you like best?

Program met my needs exactly -- took our Excel based process and automated it. It also gave us the opportunity to provide reports to all managers that have historically only been available to executives due to the amount of time it took to manually create them.

What do you dislike?

There is nothing with this product that I do not like. It's great!

What do you like best?

It reduces the manual error of multiple spreadsheets and increases data integrity

What do you dislike?

Would like to have a better ability to make changes in the system without downloading a new excel file. Ideally, would like to have our ADP payroll system feed directly to the system to avoid manual loads.

Utilizing it for our merit process. if there was functionality for our payroll system to feed directly to the system (and vice versa) could utilize as an approval process tool for salary changes outside of the merit process time frame.

What do you like best?

The flexibility to meet the changing demands of our organization and the automated approval management to keep our team in line.

While the site is well organized, it may be beneficial to have a more simple home page (i.e. less clutter) so it is immediately clear to the user where to go or what to access.

What do you like best?

The ability to define the approval hierarchy for decisions and the generation of automated custom letters

What do you dislike?

Managers/HR didn't like the inflexibility of the downloaded version of the employee workbook and didn't feel the online version of the workbook was making decisions for large populations

The testing process was helpful, but it seemed that some changes made in testing did not migrate to live site.
