"Conversant for Non-Converter Remarketing"

What do you like best?

Easy to set up. Easy integration. Responsive reps.

What do you dislike?

The reporting feature lacks the depth of understanding you would want for analyzing your strategies. The customization is minimal, and you can't segment certain things such as view vs. click conversions. Additionally, we were only able to utilize a single conversion goal to track against, even though it would be great to understand the effect on secondary objectives.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Good out of the box option for a smaller organization who are only looking for tracking singular goals.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It allowed us to reach identified prospects in locations not available through FB or Googled at efficient CPMs.

"Great software!"

What do you like best?

Very organized and easy to use with great tech support, etc. I had zero problems from set up til now.

What do you dislike?

Nothing, I think it is a great product that has alot of potential and alot of people will end up using and loving it.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The business side of things is alot more organized and easier to run. Really brings alot of awareness to your brand and you will see a big difference.

"Conversant left me disappointed"

What do you like best?

The only positive I can see from Conversant is that it's an additional revenue source for advertising. It typically has delivered a higher eCPM for me than AdSense, but its integration was exhausting. We can only use Conversant on about half of our webpages because of a security issue.

What do you dislike?

I spent hours working with our webdev team to put ads on a new registration page (SSL-enabled). Even with emails going back and forth with Conversant's support team, sending them screenshots of our source coding, and trying everything in book, a Conversant member finally got back to me and said they don't have any third party creative code for secured webpages yet. After hours of communication.

In 2015, who doesn't enable creatives for secured pages? A business day was wasted for my team.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If your webpage starts with "https://" then just walk away. Conversant will not enable third party creatives for your site.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We aren't necessarily solving any problems, but just adding to our revenue stream. Conversant does deliver a few quality advertisements, but as with AdSense, you need to be generating at least 10 million impressions a month to see anything other than droll ads.

"Great Ad Serving"

What do you like best?

The ability to quickly change and A/B test ads and creatives. We also have been using Conversant for rich media XML driven HTML5 ads, we were able to quickly do A/B testing on the ads, and find out which of our segments liked what type of ads. From that we have been able to increase conversions, but also bring down the cost of our ads.

What do you dislike?

Out of the box, it was a little hard to get up to speed on all that it offered

"My advertising agency ran an OLA campaign with Conversant to reach in-market shoppers"

What do you like best?

Conversant was able to reach a wide audience and we reached the desired scale of our campaign. Conversant also is able to add on audience qualifiers such as behavioral and demographic attributes and this helped us target in-market shoppers. Conversant allowed us to provide considerable detail as to what we were looking for out of their audience targeting capabilities.

What do you dislike?

While Conversant was able to target a broad scale, the audience they reached wasn't the most qualified in-market shoppers.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Running a test with Conversant to determine whether they are able to hit the audience you are looking to target would be my recommended approach. I think their performance will vary from brand to brand, depending on your campaign goals

We utilized Conversant as a partner to target in-market shoppers and Conversant allowed us to give them a very personalized audience that we wanted to reach.

"CPA partner"

What do you like best?

The ability to purchase on a CPA, retail data, depth of data. Insight reports, quick reply to emails. Works well on both last touch and attribution conversions

What do you dislike?

Lots of product offerings that can get confusing. Does not perform as well on CPM and CPC bases. Sometimes hard to clear budget due to the fact that we only spend on a CPA

"Read your contract, every word of it, then go somewhere else."

What do you like best?

Conversant has a good share of the higher end brand affiliate market (Verizon, etc) many of which are exclusive to their CJ platform.

What do you dislike?

A lawyer I used to work with once described them as "cunning", which is an accurate description of how they do business. Most of the time, people act in good faith and present themselves that way during negotiations - not Conversant. They're ruthless, smart and not always honest about their intentions.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Unless there's no other choice (meaning your client is exclusive) run far, far away. If there is no other choice, negotiate very carefully and DO NOT sign their stock terms without redlining them. They'll say they don't negotiate terms, but they do.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Monetization of publisher email lists and other affiliate channels. The benefit was having a good offer to send (Verizon)

"The better part of CRM delivery"

What do you like best?

They assist clients with building one-to-one marketing results, with the correct audiences across all platforms. Not just a cookie cutter machine like most agencies. They work with you to customize your needs to your exact audiences.

What do you dislike?

A massive amount and an overwhelming amount of information to obtain from the beginning. Their website is very overwhelming and endless. You also don't know where to start or how to get connected in the right way with them.

"Gets the job done but takes the long way around"

What do you like best?

The resulting advertiser tags work once they are created. However, getting accurate working tags created can be difficult with granular targeting added. This is because of having to add Creative Sets and Rules before trafficking can be completed.

What do you dislike?

In order to target within this agency ad server, you have to create both a Creative Set and a Rule. Also, you have to create these every time you add a new creative. They are very time-consuming to create and not obvious within the ad server. I had to get on the phone with second-level tech-support to get the answers I needed; our in-house staff did not have this expertise.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Make sure your staff completely understand how to both traffic and bulk edit in this ad server, since it is a lengthy process.

The business problem is having 3rd-party tags to traffic to external publishers and programmatic platforms. These are robust tags once trafficked, but it takes a while to get there.

"Cheap, Dated Ad Server"

What do you like best?

The price for the legacy "MediaPlex" ad server can't be beat by nearly anyone on the market.

What do you dislike?

MediaPlex lacks some of the basic features you would expect and is still very fragile and buggy for a legacy ad server. It lacks many of the newer features you might expect.

As part of Epislon, there may be more advanced versions available - you should ask.

Low cost, reliable ad delivery - it's a bare bones value proposition.

"Uninspired and Outdated"

What do you like best?

The reporting wasn't too bad but honestly there is not much good to say about Conversant.

What do you dislike?

Counterintuitive platform that struggles with the basics such as uploading and previewing creative. Constantly having to clear cache just to see if ads were attached and displaying properly. Also a struggle to navigate and the bulk upload leaves something to be desired.

With conversant we really didn't solve any business problems, most our problems were solved by changing ad servers.

"Best for cross screen campaigns"

What do you like best?

Better than average mobile and tablet campaigns, however work still needs to be done to integrate their various offerings (Set TV, etc)
