What do you like best?
Tells you traffic counts, nearby properties of interest (including retail and hospitality) and so many other statistics that are necessary in the performance of due dilligence and marketing for any property. Additionally, it often tells you the owner and info, although not always accurately.
What do you dislike?
Not always so accurate with owners, filtering is a little wonky, and sometimes with certain stats it's all or nothing reports. While very cosmetically pretty, it misses the mark on some iimportant featiures which a developer would want. Working on NYC properties, there are definitely better softwares out there, but having worked on retails in other, more rural towns, it was very helpful and definitely crucial.
Recommendations to others considering the product
Do not rely entirely on Costar. It is a great tool, but some things need further verification. Utilize customer support. They are extremely helpful and will often provide you with tools not available on the site.
What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
As a brokerage and investment company, it is important to know all relevant info for a property. This includes rent rolls, size of properties, owner info, traffic counts, and nearby retail establishments of note. Costar helps with all of this and more. While less valuable in urban areas, when we were buying / brokering properties in rural areas, CoStar was totally necessary as an initial step into due diligence. Everything did need followup verification, though.
