"perfect app"

What do you like best?

the monitoring that Datadog poses about the apop in the cloud and the database servers of the company is something spectacular and very reliable because I can work on my pc computer with the peace of mind that the whole system is working well and that if something is for being damaged or eating a lot of resources Datadog is going to make it known to close programs or visualize the app that is presenting problems and solve them before it is too late and it is a more serious damage

analyzes the app and shows me a detailed report of how they are working and the performance that each one is having to know if the performance that is presenting is normal or is failing something

What do you dislike?

is a difficult platform to learn to use has a lot of concept that is not familiar and requires time at the beginning of the configuration to do everything right and that is a well configured system but it is worth learning because it provides more intelligence and is very useful

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

With Datadog I can be aware of all the servers to know the current operation and be able to know if any is affecting me that the system is slow to be able to close or that one is due to failures, is a good monitoring platform

"monitoring"

What do you like best?

through datadog you can have the tracking of errors that can be caused in the app and be able to solve them so that the performance of the app is still normal

is an excellent platform that analyzes and gives solution to the problems that can be caused in the computer so that it can be navigated to perfection and if there is any program that could be damaging datadog, it is alert about this possible problem

Not only alerts on a single computer but also alerts on performance problems to several users in the location where they are

I receive critical question alerts by email to be more informed of the system that may be causing unwanted damages to the company.

What do you dislike?

I do not see anything that I dislike about this monitoring platform I find the work it provides excellent to be calm that the computer or the app are good and will not lose information that is stored on the device

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The alerts that are sent are of considerable benefit because they warn of possible damages that may be caused and that can be fixed in time avoiding permanent damage or fatal damage

Analyze very well the performance of each app and the performance of the computer if it is consuming many resources

"It is a modern and different app"

What do you like best?

you can track a customer

Optimize resources

Detects usage patterns

you can set an alert notification message

It has more than 200 integrations and I see that more and more

What do you dislike?

It is a pretty platform but quite complicated to understand and to manage because of my position in the company it helps me to understand a little more but even so I feel that there are parts of this platform that I do not understand

I feel that this platform is designed more for professional people in the area with extensive knowledge in the system because if there are people who execute this platform without having a wide knowledge it can fail in the attempt of the execution and programming

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

you can maintain a more stable and safe monitoring when you learn to manage the platform well, each time you are finding a benefit that contributes more to the company

"help to obtain high income"

What do you like best?

The system events are pretty good. Datadog is very well designed to give visibility among the teams so that I can discuss issues in context of production data, write down the changes and notify my team, see who responded to that alert before, remember what was done to correct it and add their data together.

you only have to install agent and cloud integrations to bring metrics and events from your cloud and services in one place.

What do you dislike?

The configuration of this platform is just opened is very complicated I could not understand it I had to ask for help of engineering and support so that they could explain each of the categories I had already afterwards, it has made it easy to use it, but the first ones months I get headaches this app

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

is a platform that serves a lot to monitor the company's app little by little you learn to use it well you have to have patience and have availability to learn and that Datadog surprises us with its production ability

"cloud supervision"

What do you like best?

The free version offered to know it well before starting to pay I had a good idea of Datadog, I had my doubts if I was going to like it or not, that if it was good or not and I did not want to start paying for something that was not I knew how I was going to get out so I tried the free version and started using it and until now I have it, I liked it.

The attention to the client that they have from the beginning so it is free version and already later when it is bought it is equally good it does not change in anything and it is very fast

What do you dislike?

It is a great monitoring tool but to work properly, it is important to read a lot and see tutorials before starting to handle it. Everything is very complex, I have to ask for help from the engineers to understand words that said and did not understand what the icon was for or menu

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The supervision you have in the cloud helps improve agility and efficiency, I like to have this tool in the company

"Software that detects problems"

What do you like best?

With this software I can see the problems that I and my team have also the information of the system and infrastructure of the site, it works in different operating systems and this facilitates the work, you can create notifications when the cpu reaches a high level of use or when some system is inactive

What do you dislike?

the configuration process can take and be too complicated is not easy to learn to manage the platform from one moment to another, it requires a lot of time and knowledge to be able to achieve the correct way to use it so that everything is fine

Recommendations to others considering the product

if you know about systems and have extensive knowledge to be able to do the Datadog configuration or have someone who can configure it, it is very useful for the monitoring of the system

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It provides good monitoring at a general level of the company and is very useful when it notifies the high use of the cpu because if it did not warn it could be damaged or some files would be lost

"Datadog - Complete tool for all types of application monitoring."

What do you like best?

Datadog is a tool that can not be absent in any company, of whatever type, where different applications of different types are used, with its powerful tool, you can carry out a continuous monitoring of many programs and applications that are used daily, in a Same place, I must say that the first time I used this wonderful application surprised me, it has an optimal integration and in our university we can monitor almost 90% of the applications that we use from Datadog.

What do you dislike?

Sometimes, due to the number of applications that we have integrated to Datadog, there may be certain bugs, or delays in the delivery of information, I have noticed in some cases, delays of up to 20 seconds, I do not understand why this is due When everything is connected to it, there should not be this type of delay in the delivery of information.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

By integrating the majority of applications to Datadoog, we can have an optimal monitoring of the different applications that we use in our university, of that we provide the best possible service to all our students, teachers, and all the personnel that make use of our applications, providing them, always the best quality of service, since since before them, they realize a possible problem, thanks to our monitoring tools, we are always one step ahead.

"Quick and it does not prevent you from doing several tasks at once"

What do you like best?

It does not hinder other tools that I'm working with, when I work in datadog it does not slow down the computer or I block it and that seems great to me compared to other platforms that when I open them slow down the computer and I can not work well

What do you dislike?

To put a profile picture in the datadog account, I have to register in another page to create an avatar and be able to put it in datadog I think it takes a long time to put a simple image should be upload a photo and go and not have to be registering in another page that takes me longer, choose not to put a photo that is not necessary and that I do not have time to be creating avatar

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

being able to monitor all the infrastructure of the cloud allows us to be aware of everything that happens, whether good or bad

"monitor app performance"

What do you like best?

You can track the performance of each app you have

Quickly analyze the solution to the problems that may arise in the app and platforms

warning of possible damages that may be caused before the damage is greater and causes irreparable damage

calculate the rates, ratios, or averages and see the graphs in real time

you can receive the alerts by email if at the moment I am not in the workplace

I can silence all alerts with a single click

What do you dislike?

Basically this platform is aimed at professional engineers because the programming language it has is very complex that is only understood by engineers

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

it benefits at the moment that it warns about the possible damages that can be caused before the damages are greater and can damage the app or the computer, showing the graphs of the ones that are performing the most in the system

"datadog marketplace 100% leaders"

What do you like best?

System stats, software stats, API endpoints, events, dashboards, alerts, mobile apps, all in one. Datadog has a lot of pre-built solutions that you can implement in your infrastructure and if you will not find suitable solution you can build your own, great for AWS monitoring. Good customer support and documentation.

What do you dislike?

Lack of Azure monitoring tools, Datadog is very complex in building your own solutions. A bit too expensive for it`s functionality,Not very good for Azure if you are going to use marketplace solutions. Most of these are made for AWS and you will have to make something similar by yourself.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Mostly AWS monitoring, it can done something in Azure, but choise of solutions is very limited

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Contact helpdesk prior to build your own solutions, maybe you just didn`t find the same on marketplace,Monitoring of systems and services for production SaaS applications. It helps us discover issues both before and after they happen, and we use the dashboards both for system status and for business level dashboarding.

"Excellent tool for monitoring everything in your infrastructure"

What do you like best?

Datadog is a monitoring service that gives you a great overview of the state of your infrastructure at any given time. I like how it works almost out of the box with many popular frameworks such as nginx, celery and django. The documentation and tutorials provided on the official website are quite good, and since Datadog widely adopted, it's easy to get one's questions answered.

What do you dislike?

It is sometimes hard to characterize log messages to the desired severity. There's lots of widely used applications which log by default to stderr, and this causes Datadog to classify everything they log as an error, when it is not the case.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you have even slightly complex infrastructure (ie, more than three types of microservices running) then it's likely you can benefit from using Datadog to monitor that everything is running smoothly.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We have set monitors so that we're alerted whenever our services are behaving in a way that could signify a problem (ie, database having high latency, high error rates in website etc)

We also have set up dashboards to have an overview of all our services and we use the Live Tail feature of the logs to see and share logs without needing to log-in to remote machines.

"Analyze valuable data"

What do you like best?

It is incredible all the information that collects from a system or infrastructure can analyze valuable data for the company, works in any operating system.

It is good because it monitors the problems that occur or could occur in the system when there is a high percentage of computer use

What do you dislike?

The process to configure is really complicated if you do not have a base of knowledge about this tool, there are tutorials that exfoliate very well as it should be the initial configuration but still play and read very careful videos or files that explain why you have too many things to configure and for something that is wrong at the beginning everything will be wrong after

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The intelligent analysis that brings knowledge to face the mistakes that are I like to learn every day more of this work tool that monitors the system very well

"My Experience with Datadog Cloud Based Monitoring Tool"

What do you like best?

Instant online chat support rather than waiting days for a return call. I also like that it is a java free web based program and that navigating the monitors via notification links is easy. Integration with an internal slack support channel helps organize monitoring into one channel rather than being mixed with email.

What do you dislike?

For IP monitoring the IP has to be live to do the setup, would prefer if the setup could be done without the monitor being online yet but there is also an advantage to making sure it is up as part of the setup so that feature is both a like and dislike. We have had issues with monitors getting stuck and having to be restarted to clear.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Their support is great, do not hesitate to pop up a chat any time you have a question. I was not involved in the actual pricing so I cannot speak to cost but I know the evaluation team would have taken it being affordable.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Notification of devices that need network connectivity being offline, disk space, and memory usage. Not having to deal with java and being able to edit my own monitors rather than having a system administrator exclusively responsible to manage monitors results in more timely monitoring and less missed setups.

"easy to monitor applications in the cloud"

What do you like best?

It is easy to manage to monitor the database in the cloud or servers, also integrates several cloud software tools, company and developer ready to use, maybe my profession is easy to use and is handled very well, from the principle I liked the technology that handled the platform so good

What do you dislike?

having to enter a platform to create an avatar to put in the profile picture auqnue is a different way of putting a photo should have the option of placing the normal photo that you want and not be mandatory to have to put the avatar created there are more important things to do to make an avatar to place it in the profile

"One of the best monitoring tool"

What do you like best?

- It's written now in Go.

- Allows integration with many tools and applications

- Dashboards are just amazing

- You can write your own scripts to parse logs and integrate them

- You can monitor all your infrastructure on site or in the cloud

- Agent installation can be automated.

- Advanced graph functionality.

- High level of customization.

- Alert notifications via e-mail and PagerDuty

- Full API access

- Sampling intervals of 10 seconds

- Mute all alerts with 1 click during upgrades and maintenance

- Supports Windows, Linux, and Mac

- Datadog’s overall robustness

- Easy to create custom graphs and metrics on the fly

- Monitors resource metrics well

What do you dislike?

- Price. It's not cheap

- Heavy learning curve to several key features.

- Not very good for Azure

- The datadog agent eats a bit too much memory

- No significant cons, though I'd like to be able to monitor RDS health without integrating to the entire AWS.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Use the trial version, install some agents in your servers, enjoy

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We used Graphite as a monitoring tool. We had constant performance problems and system crashes. We started using Datadog and managed to obtain more detailed graphics, better dashboards, and a more reliable monitoring system.

"Datadog Works almost Like Magic"

What do you like best?

Although I'm not involved in the Deployment of Datadog, I use it's service often to review alerts, logs, and Server Statuses. Recently I was tasked with building a Dashboard in React/Node. When it came time to figure out how to import Datadog without API access I found it was extremely easy to just pull an iframe from whatever charts/graphs I wanted.

What do you dislike?

Although I don't have exact figures it's my understanding that Datadog is rather costly. All of the features are worth it though!

Recommendations to others considering the product

Datadog is a great tool. Invest in the training for building dashboards and setting up proper tags/monitoring as it's well worth it.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Monitoring MANY (100s of Servers) all in one place and getting alerts anytime an alert threshold is met.

"Data collection at scale"

What do you like best?

Data Dog is really great at collecting data and give real-time perfomance metrics.

It is super flexible and work for all the technologies that we are using.

Also it is super easy too configure an alerting system like Pagerduty to notify us if something is odd.

What do you dislike?

Within Data Dog, the dashboarding is quite hard to figure out.

There is time were too much information is just disturbing. Data Dog could fall in this pattern if you don't design properly your dashboard.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Datadog is really great and simple to use. The are also adding new support for a lot of technology and programming language so doing hook is pretty easy.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Data Dog helped us to get realtime metric on basic object within our infrastructure.

It give what happened in what order. So debugging is much easier.

"Datadog as Perfect monitoring tool."

What do you like best?

Perfect monitoring tool.

You can monitor your infrastructure as on premise as in the cloud by monitoring performance counters of different applications and collecting information from logs.

You can monitor your infrastructure as in real time mode or just receiving alerts for example to email.

It allows you to use different ready solutions with predefined logic for to monitor even different software such as: SQL Server, MySQL and so on.

It can be integrated with different products such as slack, where you can receive different alerts and where slacks bot can perform setuped actions.

You can create different dashboards for your convenience.

What do you dislike?

No suitable for all cloud services, for example if you're going to monitor your infrastructure in Azure it would be better to use Azure's Log Analytics.

This solution is not for non-experienced users and required time to learn it . Features used in free price tiers very limited for example no alert capabilities.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Not suitable for all cases but can be used in some ones. If you are using Azure you can use it's native tools, but if you're going to monitor AWS or on premise infrastructure it is good choice, plus it has several pricing tiers to test and decide if it is suable for your company.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Monitoring premise and AWS infrastructure.

This monitoring tool can be accessed from any device from anywhere by using app or just browser thats very convenient.

"Flexible monitoring for your solutions "

What do you like best?

Datadog allows monitoring of everything you need without deploying additional hardware or utilizing storage in your datacenter. Most of your possible needs are covered by API marketplace, where you can find lots of solutions for different use cases. You have access to both current state of resources and history of this state, so you can analyze your issues in retrospective manner to find out what was going on that time. Monitoring of both availability and performance of your services by utilizing performance counters, log analytics and alerting on specific events. Great email and communications tools integration for notification purposes, allows to monitor your systems proactively and find possible issues before actual impact for your resources.

What do you dislike?

Complex APIs settings to get desired result. No off-line solutions and tools, cloud residence is cool and modern approach, but some systems can not be exposed to public internet because of security concerns, and local proxies can affect the speed of data transfer

Recommendations to others considering the product

"Monitoring is one of most important parts in DevOps process"

What do you like best?

Datadog is cloud based solution, perfectly working with monitoring of your cloud deployments, wide range of different solutions on marketplace, good set of APIs, log analytics. You can not only see current state of your resources, but have a historical data for the same, so you can find the bottlenecks in your systems and get rid of these. If you will not find what you need on marketplace you can always develop your own solution and use it. Somebody told that it is very hard for new users, but it is not true, you just need to have some patience, when exploring the documentation. And you can always contact helpdesk, team if very responsible and will be able to help you finding appropriate solution for your needs

What do you dislike?

Not very good for Azure if you are going to use marketplace solutions. Most of these are made for AWS and you will have to make something similar by yourself.

"Great SaaS monitoring"

What do you like best?

System stats, software stats, API endpoints, events, dashboards, alerts, mobile apps, all in one. Also basic APM and logging. Cloud integration plus agents, and extensible checks. Beats using something like nagios hollow.

What do you dislike?

Expensive at scale, very little discounting.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Monitoring's complicated. If you just take the defaults on graphs and alerts you're not necessarily going to be seeing what you want to see - you have to understand the sampling and available analytics and stuff, it's simple to set up but can be complicated to get a visualization or alert that really gives you what you want. Support can help a lot, though.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Monitoring of systems and services for production SaaS applications. It helps us discover issues both before and after they happen, and we use the dashboards both for system status and for business level dashboarding.

"Great monitoring tool for your solutions. "

What do you like best?

Datadog permits observing of all that you need without conveying extra equipment or using stockpiling in your datacenter. The greater part of your conceivable needs are secured by API commercial center, where you can discover bunches of answers for various use cases. You approach both current condition of assets and history of this state, so you can dissect your issues in review way to discover what was happening that time. Observing of both accessibility and execution of your administrations by using execution counters, log investigation and cautioning on explicit occasions. Incredible email and specialized instruments joining for warning purposes, permits to screen your frameworks proactively and discover conceivable issues previously genuine effect for your assets.

What do you dislike?

Complex APIs settings to get wanted outcome. No disconnected arrangements and apparatuses, cloud living arrangement is cool and current methodology, however a few frameworks can not be presented to open web due to security concerns, and neighborhood intermediaries can influence the speed of information exchange

Recommendations to others considering the product

Agonizing in setup, yet unfathomable after go-live.

Try not to dither to include numerous reconciliations, look through the coordination screens and include "everything" you have. regardless of whether you don't have explicit esteem now in a particular mix you may have a particular corralation of history required later on. ""Fast and it doesn't keep you from completing a few undertakings on the double""

What do you like best?

Framework details, programming details, API endpoints, occasions, dashboards, alarms, versatile applications, across the board. Datadog has a ton of pre-manufactured arrangements that you can actualize in your foundation and in the event that you won't discover reasonable arrangement you can assemble your own, incredible for AWS checking. Great client support and documentation. It does not prevent different instruments that I'm working with, when I work in datadog it doesn't back off the PC or I square it and that appears to be extraordinary to me contrasted with different stages that when I open them back off the PC and I can not function admirably

What do you dislike?

Absence of Azure observing apparatuses, Datadog is unpredictable in building your own answers. A bit unreasonably costly for it's usefulness There's loads of broadly utilized applications which log naturally to stderr, and this causes Datadog to arrange all that they log as a blunder, when it isn't the situation.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Generally AWS checking, it can accomplished something in Azure, however choise of arrangements is very limited,If you have even marginally complex foundation (ie, multiple kinds of microservices running) at that point it's probable you can profit by utilizing Datadog to screen that everything is running easily.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We have set screens so we're alarmed at whatever point our administrations are acting in a way that could connote an issue (ie, database having high idleness, high mistake rates in site etc)being ready to screen all the framework of the cloud enables us to know about everything that occurs, regardless of whether great or awful

"Great easy to use service "

What do you like best?

Easy to set up custom metric collection and dashboards. You get a lot of metrics collected automatically when you integrate with cloud providers like GCP. You get a lot of insight out of the data you collect.

What do you dislike?

High price. Charged per. We're migrating off of it at work because we can't prevent it from charging us for every new ephemeral host we start with Dataflow on GCP etc. Usage based billing would make more sense.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Be mindful of cost. May not be compatible with serverless styles.

"Functional monitoring"

What do you like best?

A lot of features that are able to work out of a box, you just need to install agents and you are in. You can find much more special APIs on marketplace to extend basic functionality. Good analytics platform allows to find bottlenecks in your infrastructure and fix at proactive basis instead of reaction on incident. Does not requires additional resources on your infrastructure as Datadog is provided as a service. The only really working Docker container monitoring solution we were able to find

What do you dislike?

Installation and configuration can be painful for non-experienced users. Not very clear reporting capabilities. Most solution requires additional customization to be suitable for your needs. Not very straightforward pricing policy often makes users confusing about budget planning for Datadog

"Datadog has proven invaluable"

What do you like best?

The Datadog team keeps building new features that we need before we even know we need them! They are so quick to add features and fix bugs that we report.

What do you dislike?

Not really a dislike but their APM and logging still lag behind some of the more mature products out there. They are rapidly improving both though and they're very much usable.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Definitely do a POC with Datadog. You'll be surprised at how easy it is to on-board employees and get them building monitors and dashboards. It's better than what you're using for monitoring and is rapidly becoming a great logging and APM solution.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Building monitors and alerting on what matters rather than just alerting on any issues that arise. It's allowed our NOC to be more efficient in responding to critical events by filtering out the noise. It also provides a detailed yet simple view for non-engineer folks to see what's going on throughout our network.

"Monitoring for your cloud solutions"

What do you like best?

Datadog is very flexible monitoring tool, perfectly fits the requirements of cloud solutions monitoring. It has a great set of embedded solutions as well as great API marketplace, where you can find almost everithing you need to set up for your environment. It also allows building you custom solutions for fine tuning according to your needs. Datadog can collect logs and performance counters information, for alerting and analysis. You can move any dashboard back in time to see the condition of your infrastructure and dynamics of changes.

What do you dislike?

Starting your work with Datadog in a pain. It`s has a complex query language and too much different settings, so you will have to contact helpdesk and read a tons of documentation to get it doing what you need

Recommendations to others considering the product

Try built in solutions prior to making your own

"A very powerful APM"

What do you like best?

Datadog is used by multiple teams in our company to constantly monitor the infrastructure and make sure that the systems are working smoothly.

Datadog offers a simple and very easy to use interface which makes it easy for us to train the new team members on the tool.

Datadog also offers a vast variety of integration with third party tool which makes it easy for us to build custom reports and alerts.

What do you dislike?

1. The initial deployment of the tool can be a little challenging especially if you have not used the tool before.

2. The delays in the monitoring agents can be reduced as sometimes it is very critical to receive the alerts in real time and delays can lead to system failures.

3. The pricing of the tool is also a bit high as compared to other APM's.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Datadog can be really helpful if you want to build a alerting and monitoring system for your resources.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Datadog is used to constantly monitor all the system resources and raise alarm if any resource is not working as expected

"Amazingly easy to setup"

What do you like best?

Its super easy to setup and start monitoring your system/clusters. The Infrastructure Host map and dashboards are impressive and give a quick overview of your "Health Dashboard" to be able to diagnose the issue with a server/cluster and quickly fix it. The "Events" tab gives a quick overview of all the "state" changes that occurred during the given time - period so that we have a time series trend to look at. Also the priority of an event can be changed/raised to be able to quickly take an action.

What do you dislike?

Setting up Monitoring/Alerts is a bit non - intuitive to begin with. It takes a bit of understanding to be able to configure the alerts.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It is definitely good value for money. It is a cheap alternative to start on a month-to-month basis to evaluate the product before being able to make an annual commitment.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Monitoring custom Dashboards with multiple integrations and API access make it easy to quickly visualize the cluster health and operations. The Integrated Dashboards which come pre-populated with critical metrics are a great feature to quickly start monitoring your cluster.

"Data Dog is A Good Boi"

What do you like best?

We used Data Dog for our Saas and Paas alerting and incident monitoring. It integrated very nicely with our other systems, we integrated with Hipchat for instance to monitor some of our critical services. Our team could then keep an eye on issues as they develop and see trending problems very easily. The visualizations are very cool, while we tenedd to not get too much use out of them.

What do you dislike?

I mostly have nothing negative to say, the pricing is very reasonable, the integrations are great. I suppose if I had to come up with something it would be that there can be a somewhat overwhelming amount of information being presented sometimes but once you get past the learning curve it is not bad at all.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I would highly recommend data dog, its a great product at a great price and it integrates nicely just as you would expect into other systems.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We were using data dog to expose our SAAS and PAAS alerting to our entire team (we have this integrated through Hipchat). We could see issues nearly live as they develop and get that information in front of the appropriate groups all at once.We have since moved to Pulseway.

"Amazing for the money"

What do you like best?

It lets me know when my servers are having issues when they happen, instead of when an end user on the server contacts us. This has been critical for our operations, as occasionally there are some rogue processes that hog all of the server resources.

What do you dislike?

It doesn't have a great solution for PHP.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We have had instances prior to using DataDog when a server's resources were full and we did not know about this until someone said a website was not working. Now we can stay on top of performance issues before they impact end users.

"Good Monitoring and timeseries aggerator and viewer tool"

What do you like best?

Monitoring based on thresholds, moving averages, anomalies detection. Also basic server integration works "from the box". Also product moves forward all the time with new integrations, and features.

What do you dislike?

Disk space integration isn't working completely as expected. also per process monitor needs more love. Didn't try APM yet since my current stack isn't supported

Recommendations to others considering the product

Don't hesitate to add multiple integrations, search the integration screens and add "everything" you have. even if you don't have specific value now in a specific integration you might have a specific corralation of history needed in the future. Also use the API to add your specific metrics and KPI

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

No need to setup multiple monitoring => graphing + monitoring => alerting pipelines and integrations with various tools, everything works from the box

"Outstanding metrics, logs, and alert aggregator"

What do you like best?

Everything is easily and cost effectively aggregated into a single repository. Support staff is quite helpful.

What do you dislike?

Version upgrades on all clients should be manageable from a central console. Instead, they rely on integration with Puppet and Chef. In my opinion, while using something like Puppet should certainly be an option, an enterprise product should include the ability to centrally manage endpoint agents.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Initial installation is super quick and easy.

You will likely hit a steep learning curve / wall when you start moving into more advanced tasks such as alerts based on multiple aggregated metrics, custom dashboards, and log consolidation. The support team is very helpful when you get to this point.

You may want to also ramp up on your skills with Puppet and/or Chef as this is needed for automating the client upgrades.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Log aggregation and publishing to our application development teams, correlation between time stamps on logs and related device metrics.

"Clound monitoring for ckoud solutions."

What do you like best?

Log analytics work perfectly, great APIs, performance management tools, informative dashboards and customization options. Datadog has a lot of pre-built solutions that you can implement in your infrastructure and if you will not find suitable solution you can build your own, great for AWS monitoring. Good customer support and documentation

What do you dislike?

Lack of Azure monitoring tools, Datadog is very complex in building your own solutions. A bit too expensive for it`s functionality

Recommendations to others considering the product

Will not recommend this tool for Azure monitoring, set of solutions is too limited. You will need to have experienced developers to build custom solutions

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Mostly AWS monitoring, it can done something in Azure, but choise of solutions is very limited

"Monitor All The Things"

What do you like best?

Datadog's myriad integrations make it useful for monitoring just about any web stack you can imagine.

What do you dislike?

The permissions model for dashboards make it a free-for-all. You have two choices, admin or unprotected. If the dashboards are unprotected, anyone can edit them. In larger team environments where users have varying levels of skill and a different view of which metrics are important, this can create a mess.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I really do like this product. If you have a large number of servers, it can get expensive compared to an open source solution. However, managing an OSS solution that provides all of what Datadog can will be time-intensive. Datadog just works.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Datadog provides visibility into our system performance by allowing us to visualize and monitor telemetry and metrics.

"Intuitive, useful software at a reasonable price"

What do you like best?

I most like the fact that I have nearly complete control of what and how I monitor my infrastructure, but am not tasked with maintaining the monitoring infrastructure.

What do you dislike?

Some parts of the featureset are robust yet not intuitive. I would ideally like some cycles to be spent polishing those up.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you're thinking about using it, contact Datadog customer relations. They will set you up with a free trial, and answer any questions you might have!

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The largest benefit we reap is having a powerful suite of monitoring tools without having to maintain additional servers or troubleshoot connectivity.

"Versatile tool, would love better wallboard support"

What do you like best?

* VERY flexible, you can track pretty much any metric

* Sources data from the standard statsd

* Dashboard functionality

* Easy sharing of dashboards

* Great integration with many services like AWS, Chef, Couchbase, JVM, HAProxy, MySQL etc.

What do you dislike?

* The datadog agent eats a bit too much memory

* The front-end lets you create graphs of virtually any kind, but it's a challenge to make a TV-friendly dashboard that would be readable from distance.

* There are also issues like the user being periodically logged out or the dashboard URL being lost when datadog is down -- every now and then I have to manually come over to the computer connected to a wall TV and fix issues

* It's also annoying that I can't just convert a dashboard between a TimeBoard and a ScreenBoard - it seems like the difference is mostly in the representation, but I have to re-do the whole board if I want to display it on a big screen.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I haven't used many alternatives, but Datadog seems like a great versatile tool. Adding new metrics and creating new dashboards is fairly easy, Datadog will do all the hard work.

I hope they implement better support for the use case of putting dashboards on a wall TV, which means:

* I want to set it and forget it. No log outs, no redirects to error or downtime pages that need manual intervention when things get back to work

* Better support for large graphs that are visible from a distance, with no application chrome visible

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We needed a robust, versatile solution to track a variety of metrics like number of errors, load and response times, job execution stats, db connection usage, track runs of scheduled tasks etc. Datadog allowed us to implement all of that with one tool, and in a way that we don't have to change the code to change the representation of data. It's a great tool to track the health and performance of your services.

"DatDog's ease of setup has helped us get quick insight"

What do you like best?

Setting up alerting for Windows servers and Linux containers was very easy. We had this plugged into our Dev systems all the way up to production systems within days.

What do you dislike?

Having to adjust our tagging strategy/naming conventions in AWS to make dashboards for some instances. We have same server setups in dev environments through production and don't want individual dashboards. having them tagged correctly allows us to be in one view and just change environment through drop down menu

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Getting a clear understanding of what happens in the environments either through simulated user behavior or actual user behavior was problematic. We have been able to find some clear bugs in our system along with obtaining data for right sizing servers.
