What do you like best?

Easy to use, security features, continual development of product, and they like taking suggestion from their user base on how to make the product better. I like easy of getting the data and being able to change how I look at it with different visuals. It helps me find the best way to answer the questions I am wanting to answer already and find new questions that I didn't have but see now I should be answering.

What do you dislike?

Their customer service needs to have a small upgrade. They are helpful a lot of the time. For not unusual situation they are are to help out easily with no issue. On unusual support issues that are technical it takes a few email back and forth then a GoTo Meeting to get things rolling towards a solution.

Recommendations to others considering the product

They have a free trail and a support site that has a lot of things to help you get going. Try it out for free and see what you think for yourself.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I make Dashboards from our data that do a variate of things from answer how many people did we hire that did not stay 90 days and what area did most of them work, a lot of financial reporting and some project tracking. I just gotten started and there a lot more we are going to be doing with Dundas BI.

What do you like best?

Offers a lot of possibilities to implement data visualization. An open API that could define any kind of navigation within the visualization.

What do you dislike?

Not-so-stable project migration/copy/move process; lack batch process for some minor things; and not enough scripting examples or materials.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Spend more time playing around with Dundas and familiarizing yourself with it. Don't be scared by its uniqueness (i.e. relative longer time to dive into it) - after passing the initial learning curve it will become nature and easy to use.

Also consider working with Dundas BI vendor on the first few dashboard projects (as a proof of concept). That way you could get a real sense regarding whether it would serve your needs or not. If yes, this would be a perfect opportunity to establish a standardized development process and record all best practices. This part would definitely make Dundas development and maintenance much easier down the road.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The organization needed user-friendly dashboards that could promote BI to front-line health providers, and also drive process and data improvement through the KPIs on the dashboards. Dundas served as a very powerful tool to achieve that. Usage rate of the dashboards and data quality in the front-end application have been improved.

What do you like best?

We were very impressed by the ease of set up, how quickly we were able to produce great visualizations, and the pricing is very flexible and reasonable. The initial setup support was great and getting up and running took just a few hours, including exposing to external connections.

What do you dislike?

Although the dashboard development process is a breeze, the text reporting development tools require a large time investment. We were hoping to stop using SSRS by the end of next year, but that may not be feasible.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Our number one need is for executive dashboards. Leaders need to see business results anytime, anywhere and tend to stress the BI team with ad hoc report requests. By giving them drillable dashboards they can get a lot more of what they need with a few clicks. When they need something new, we can spin up a specialized dashboard within a few hours. With the flexible licensing model, we will also be rolling this out to operations-level supervisors and managers in the near future. We also have begun to embed the visualizations into customer-facing dashboards within our museum. Another great feature that we will implement at the operations level is conditional alerts. In the future we will also give access to administrative assistants to create visualizations directly from Excel data.

What do you like best?

Everything is configurable. I like the versatility of the visualizations.

What do you dislike?

This is hard to answer. The software is doing everything our company needs it to do. I know it sounds like I'm a fanboy, but I guess I'm a fanboy for a reason.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Our company uses Microsoft products including SQL Server. The setup is a breeze. Get the free trial, learn what hierarchies and measures are and build something. When you get lost, Dundas has the best support I have ever encountered.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

In the financial industry people like to know how their money is invested and how it is performing. As a boutique financial firm, we have some of the best looking and functionally sound presentations in the business due to Dundas BI.

What do you like best?

Dundas BI allows us to combine data from numerous different data sources (SQL Server, Oracle, SAP BW, Excel, etc.) into combined data cubes allowing the data to be presented in cohesive dashboards and reports that are not broken up by where the data is stored. Our staff can store their data wherever makes the most sense for them based on their systems and we can bring it all together in simple, effective manner.

What do you dislike?

The key areas that we have run into issues have mainly been around small user interface and formatting areas. For example our organization uses a two year format when reporting fiscal years (ie. FY 2016-2017) but the Dundas BI system only allows for single year representation; therefore FY 2016-2017 has to be reported as FY 2016 or FY 2017 which can be confusing to some users.

The issue we have on user interface is that some of the screens we can get ourselves into do not have an option to get out of them without finishing the configuration. This often happens when we are building a data cube and we open up a join to define the details and realize that one side of the data in the join is missing the field required to make the join. We currently have to define a join before we can close the interface, then come back in and fix the join once the correct fields are being returned. Minor issue that we can get around easily.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Reach out to their tech support any time you are stuck on something. They have a great team of support staff who provide top notch support; even to those who are only using the trial version.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Where the data for our programs are stored in numerous different data systems it was not possible for staff to see the complete picture about the programs they are leading and managing; it was also hard to report on the effectiveness of programs and pilots in a consistent, quick manner. Using Dundas BI we have managed to create a suite of dashboards and reports that bring this data together in an easy to understand manner; allowing decisions to be made quicker; based on facts.

Getting the data into the hands of people who need it in a manner that is useful to them has allowed us to make budget and program related decisions in a more timely manner.

What do you like best?

It's fairly easy for non-technical folks to build amazing dashboards. The folks in support are great, I've never had an unanswered call, and they're patient. As a new user, I feel they go beyond answering the question and really try to add value by using better methods of getting to the final goal. Hugely flexible in what you can transform and visualize, Dundas brings my tired old IBM DB2 data alive.

What do you dislike?

There's a struggle with getting the ETL components just right, not so much an indictment of Dundas, but the developer should have a strong grasp of the data they're dealing with. Changing a data cube can be difficult unless you have a great memory. I would like to have field context sensitive help which is missing on some very important elements. You can sometimes edit a development to death.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Great product, great company, unlimited potential for the future. I chose this product from the best of the best (Tableau, Sisense, Qlik - the Gartner magic quadrant featured vendors)

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We have a complex business model with lots of moving parts. In classic reporting, the users could have thousands of pages to thumb through, or forced to dump to Excel to compile and analyse. One of our early wins was relieving a human of a 2-1/2 hour daily task just analyzing contract types, customers, and values that is warehoused now in Dundas with an almost instant response time. We are able to effectively share information on a dashboard that was historically available just once per month.
