"Omnify review"

What do you like best?

I work in Quality so I mainly use the CAPA module. I like that you can link other Omnify objects to CAPAs.

What do you dislike?

I don't like that the reporter doesn't allow for certain fields to not appear (like the Signoff status) and also that the parameters are different for certain fields. For example the Release Date doesn't have the Is NULL or is not NULL options.

I don't like that you can't prioritize your inbox to approve the items that are urgent. Sometimes there are dozens and dozens of items to approve so being able to sort or prioritize would be helpful.

I would be helpful if when you Escalate a CAPA object that "like" information could be populated, Description for example.

I don't like that the export to Word can't be customized (at least not to my knowledge). SCARs for example are sent to Vendors outside of our company. The export of a SCAR isn't suitable to be sent to a Vendor as there is not Company logo or information on it.

I also don't like when you perform a search and click on an item to open it and then when you slick back, you have to start your search all over again.

Consider the effort it would take to enter all of your current data into PLM. Many man hours are required.

Scalability and reusing designs is helpful in PLM. Before our company did not have visibility to our CARs. We now have the ability for users to view and input into the CAPA module.

"Aerospace Company takes flight with Omnify PLM"

What do you like best?

The support from the team is Superlative. Questions are answered timely and many times suggesting methods beyond what we had originally conceived. The system allows for unlimited creativity of solutions. Many times looking a an issue and attempting to solve it via omnify allowed us to come up with a very slick solution that was unlike what we had originally envisioned.

What do you dislike?

The engineering group is very rigid in how they will modify the system. We have asked for what seem like minor tweaks only to be flatly rejected.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Look at the function of the product without being confined by the labels displayed. This is an object based solution that has the potential to allow for problem solving on a whole new scale.

Integrating CAD and ERP systems.

We have been able to integrate CAD and ERP systems through Omnify thus allowing a more scalable solution and decreasing human errors.

What do you like best?

Easy to Use PLM System, queries are extremely fast

Quick help with questions from the support team

Great On-Board Training

Entering new parts is extremely easy, especially with the Octo-Part Integration.

The plugin w/ Altium works great (Would be nice if the Solidworks plugin was as comprehensive)

ECO system is extremely straightforward and functions well.

Overall we are extremely happy with our choice in Omnify

The "help / User Manual" is lacking

"From Rags to Riches 4.5 to 7!!!"

What do you like best?

I love it all, the speed, the organization. I find it very intuitive and easy to learn and use. Training others has been very easy for me. The help files are very helpful and easy to follow!

What do you dislike?

I dislike that information moves when refreshed, pages jump back to the top, it would be nice if they stayed put! I think developers would understand more if they had to use it on the regular. Not having to constantly save is helpful however there are times when saving is needed or at least a question of wanting to remove large pieces information would be nice.

Also dislike that required checks are only done at release so part numbers with bad descriptions and attributes don't get stopped at the requester but come thru to the admin at release and i do not know the answers. Every stage should have checks before allowing it to move on. In other words we have a 40 character limit, yet parts come to me at the end to release and cannot release. I have no idea where to make description changes but the requester does. This check should be done in the requester stage not signoff.

Clean your data before loading! Make it a habit to keep descriptions and data consistent. Don't use smart numbers. They become dumb pretty fast!

no lost files. People who are familiar with searching the web have no difficulty getting around Omnify. Training has been a breeze! we are utilizing reports more to gather data for management to review and adjust.

"Surprisingly complete and comprehensive support"

What do you like best?

Ability to talk to a live expert about problems that arise without going through several tiers of bureaucracy and helpdesk.

Omnify enables us to have a light weight application that we can host in house. We store all BOMs straight into Omnify. Also, Solidworks, and Altium are able to utilize Omnify directly via a database upload. All in all, i like the integration that Omnify provides for all of our users.

Mostly, since i am in the IT support role, i like the support it offers. Basically, i'm not alone. Which bodes well for us since we are a start up.

This review comes specifically after a support call I just had with Chuck M. We had a catastrophic failure on our virtual servers, and Chuck was able to spend approx two hours on the phone with me and brought the entire production and sandbox environment back up.

I was holding my breath the majority of the time, but in the end, everything came back up as it was before. No loss in data at all. Fantastic.

What do you dislike?

None so far. I've been involved with each phase of the setup, as well as the daily usage of Omnify. So far, everything has been pretty easy to use.

Some items require several clicks to get to where you want to go, but i believe it's necessary for this type of software.

I would highly consider this software for the support alone. I think it is very feature rich and light weight, but in all, the software allows us to perform all tasks that we need to do.

We are using Omnify as a full PLM. As a start up company, it served our purposes really well and we've been able to use this platform from the ground up. Being in med devices, regulatory is always a huge concern. This has been a boon for us since we know we are able to have everything right in Omnify.

"Very flexible and configurable PLM tool"

What do you like best?

The fact that almost everything is configurable (attributes, process flows etc.) is a huge pro compared to other PLM tools I have seen.

What do you dislike?

It is not about the tool itself, but more the way changes are communicated (or better : not communicated). We went from Omnify5 to Omnify6 a couple of months ago and we found that some functionality changed dramatically. The reason for the change is due to the fact that other users are not using the tool correctly. as a result of this we are facing a lot of extra work when doing changes.

Get clear what you want and also what you don't want. And look beyond the current solution that you are using and look at the possible benefits of Omnify.

During the exploration phase (about 6 years ago) we wanted to get rid of the physical paper work that was done when new components were requested or when an ECO was started, and we also wanted to open our PLM system for our partners. We managed to do all three.

"High value out of the box solution"

What do you like best?

The system has good integration across the modules providing a full story of the various changes made to a complex product. We are making tremendous gains across functions in the management of change.I find the tool to be largely intuitive and has resulted in fairly quick adoption. The routing tool is a great check for BOM accuracy and cuts down on implementation time.

What do you dislike?

Inability to allow suppliers into the system with appropriate security hampers the speed of change. The documentation while descriptive of how to perform a task does not provide context for what a feature does.

Spend the time upfront to ensure the quality of your data is good.

"I am one of the administrators of Omnify in our company."

What do you like best?

The system is easy to understand and use. It is easy for administrator to customize the work modes as required.

What do you dislike?

The system can not recognize Chinese and have no Chinese version. Since my company is a global company, there about half of our employees locate in China, most of them can't read or speak English.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We use Omnify to control our documentation and our new product introduction process. And also our quality modules (CAR,SCAR, etc.,).

It is good for keeping records for the purpose of trace ability. It is good for project management.

"Does a poor job of handling CAD documents"

What do you like best?

Reasonable control over document workflow. ECOs and deviation processing is acceptable.

What do you dislike?

There is no interaction between omnify and SW epdm vault. The vault is essentially uncontrolled. In addition, Omnify cannot managed DFM, or pre release document by adding a "UNRELEASED, FOR REVIEW ONLY" watermark. Lastly, Documents that are uploaded for in Omnify prior to approval, can be downloaded BEFORE THEY ARE APPROVED AND RELEASED. IE - there is NO indication on the pdf that the ECO is not approved, and the document is not released. It is therefore possible to have multiple documents "in the wild" that are all different, but have identical revisions and have no distinguishing features that indicate which one is actually released.

Consider a system package that manages your vault AND manages workflow

"Great in-House solution for Electronics Manufacturing"

What do you like best?

Easy to implement from the Admin side, very easy to build parts and products, configurable process flows allow for immediate tracking and status, project documentation all in one, easily-accessible place, configurable reporting.

What do you dislike?

Some exported excel reports need a lot of manipulation in order to get useful KPI and status information.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We have wrapped up our entire AS9100 build and change processes into the PLM. No longer do we have to chase lost or delayed paperwork. The PLM is fully integrated with our ERP and we have eliminated the need for manual configuration management. Also, the consistency that we are achieving with document requirements and vendor/product description has improved by over 60%, because we have the ability to set those requirements.

"Excellent, Engaging, and Empowering Conference with Omnify PLM"

What do you like best?

The Omnify Empower PLM conference was able to deliver key educational elements that I was looking for. They are (1) Comprehensive data on the next release version of their PLM platform, (2) Networking opportunities with their customers to share PLM experience, (3) Opportunities to engage directly with technical PLM software experts from their own team, (4) Learning experiences from a customer perspective on their uses of the PLM system, and (5) Fun and friendly activities to further strengthen networking relationship among all the attendees.

What do you dislike?

The only area I see that may need improvement is in terms of presentation equipment. The factors to consider are (1) Size of the Projection screen and the Number of Screens so that all audience can adequately and clearly see the presentation materials, (2) Microphone and Slide clickers in each of the workshop presentation rooms, and (3) Set up of the workshop room so that everyone can clearly view the presenter and the materials. Overall the set up was adequate, but would still like the organizers to consider these logistics.

Recommendations to others considering the product

For each interested customer, find out who their change order business process owner is and meet with them. Find out how you can tailor your technical sales demonstration to show how your software can resolve their issues.

Also, because your conferences are 18 months apart, consider having regional or city tours on a yearly basis among industry-specific customers so that you can ask potential customers to attend and engage with them.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The Omnify organizers were able to capture user feedback after each workshop and I have provided my own take for the ones that I attended. Overall, our company has been using this system for two years and are satisfied that it met our implementation objectives and requirements. We are continuing to explore the features and tools of the system.

"Omnify 5 was great. Omnify 6 could be great but it has at least one major bugs to be fixed."

What do you like best?

I like the ease of use and customizability. This is key to changing the interface to meet the needs of our growing company.

What do you dislike?

There was a major bug in Omnify 6 that caused a formatting issue, but with my input and others in the Omnify user community they were able to fix this problem. Something that I would like to see changed: even though Omnify is a good value for dollars spent, they have changed their policy towards creating customized interface to their product. In the past two years I have asked for two simple customizations that we were willing to pay for, but have not heard back as to whether they were even considered or not. This to me is a passive way of saying that my requests are not heard or regarded as being invalid. These two requests would have delighted other customers as well, but I guess these fell on deaf ears.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Consider the implementation with your ERP system. Put in all the possible data transfer you can fully utilize between the two systems. Work this out with Omnify and your current ERP provider. In our case this worked out very well with both Omnify and ESI.

Omnify is used throughout our company by all of our departments. It's primary use is for Engineering Documentation, Manufacturing Documentation, and it is linked to our ERP system for quick and seemless integration. It is also instrumental to our Quality Training, Quality Management System, and Service Record Recording.

"Omnify for Configuration Management"

What do you like best?

Omnify has excellent document management. It is able to store many documents of various types that are associated to a part number. Its hierarchical levels allow the document to be correctly associated with the part number's hierarchy. This is one of the most important features, among several, that distinguish Omnify from other PLM systems.

What do you dislike?

Because of its web interface, there are too many clicks to get to where you want to be. Some of the information should be stored in one screen instead of multiple windows.

If you're looking for a reasonably priced PLM system that requires no client installation (web interface), easy to administer, easy to use, flexible, great document control, then Omnify is the system for you. It also has other modules (Quality, Helpdesk, Projects, Training) that further integrate everything in one system.

Omnify has helped us track revisions and history of part numbers, along with document management. The tool serves as a central location for information that are shared with the ERP and CRM systems. With Omnify, configuration management is extremely easy to manage.

"Easy Launch of Omnify"

What do you like best?

Omnify's PLM solution is our first formal PLM tool implementation. The training, support and guidance provided by Omnify experts greatly lowered the time required to define the processes and implement our processes in the tool.

What do you dislike?

There is not much to dislike. The tool is exceptionally flexible. The only complaint I have is that the online help could be more complete in certain areas. I usually try to understand how do to something by looking first into Help files. There are times that I can't get the specific answer and then have to call Omnify support. Omnify support is never stumped by my questions.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Onmify is a good solution for organizations. The value vs. cost is very good and the outstanding support means that solutions to problems are quickly resolved. Most of our problems were do with our internal process development, not the implementation of the tool.

We currenty have our PLM data in a variety of forms and tools, including Excel files. Using a formal PLM system like Omnify allows us to have structured information about how our products are designed with approval and history information.

"Complete and cost effective PLM solution!"

What do you like best?

No need for customization (out-of-the-box functionality), easy configuration, very versatile, web-client based., ease of use and fast training of users (intuitive).

What do you dislike?

Nothing comes to my mind that is worth tagging as a specific "dislike". Like any software, it's not perfect, but no major usability problem is in this product in my opinion.

Look well before choosing another solution... many are promising "out-of-the-box" but are disappointing or misleading on that front!

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Hardware engineering data control (BOMs, parts database, etc.) and formal product release/change workflow to manufacturing and procurement. Replaced error-prone "manual" processes (spreadsheet based) and increased the efficiency of concerned teams and streamlined the inter-team communication, including with external contractors.

"Simple and easy to learn and use."

What do you like best?

We use PADS Logic for our schematic design tool, and I like the integration it has with Omnify using their tool called CADKit.

It helps our Designers automate their schematic into a BOM quickly and easily without having to do manual steps.

What do you dislike?

In Omnify 4, we used to be able to create a new part and add new vendor items very easily as the steps would flow together.

However, Omnify 6 now requires that we create a new item, and adding and creating new vendor items separately.

Even when writing an ECO, if you wanted to add a new vendor item to a new part, you would have to create that first.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We are managing our BOMs in a system that promotes data consistency and help in improving data quality.

We can load many different parameters in Omnify and create various reports supporting our many requirements we have as a business.

"13 Years using a great product"

What do you like best?

Our organization has been utilizing Omnify for 13 years and each release offers more user functionality. The team at Omnify really listen to their customers when they create a new release with better functionality and features organizations really need for their everyday operations. Omnify is very easy to use and very intuitive for end users so minimal training is required.

What do you dislike?

There is little to dislike, but the main critique of the tool comes from power users who must create items, change processes, etc. Often the wizards are cumbersome and do not provide the ability to complete all tasks, such as BOM changes on ECOs.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I would definitely recommend any organization consider Omnify Empower PLM for their business, it is easy to use and quick to set up. The support from Omnify takes all the hassles out of upgrading.

"Great PLM Software"

What do you like best?

I really like how intuitive the software is for me. Even after not using if for a few years and then stepping back into using it I did not have many issues to figure out. I also like how it is configurable to make it easier to fit into our way of doing things. The CADKit is another good advantage to interface with the PADS Logic software we use for design making BOM's quickly and with very few issues. The help files and support net are also easy to use and I get quick responses back from Chuck McGinley when I have posed a question or issue to him.

What do you dislike?

I really liked the older versions that used floating licenses that could be tied to many users as opposed to the one license per user. With our company on a tight budget it limits the number of users who can do tasks in the system causing some delays that I felt were avoided with the previous versions.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I have only personally used Omnify but according to others that have used different PLM software they claim this is one of the better ones they have used.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We are getting better and more efficient with ECO creation and tracking using this system instead of the manual paper trail that was previously used. It is much more efficient now to make changes to multiple designs at once. It also makes tracking down the stage in the process that each of our designs are in as we many times have multiple designs going through the process and previously you would have to ask around where now with a simple search we can quickly get an answer.

"Excellent Technical Support Paired with a Fantastic Software Package"

What do you like best?

Technical support throughout the software installation and customization was top notch. Prior to Omnify I have little to no ERP systems engineering background. Our process of creating new parts along with supporting documents used to take 1-2 weeks, Omnify allows us to get these changes completed in 1-2 hours.

What do you dislike?

Creating workflows can be somewhat of a hassle, it takes a while to get in the mind-frame of how the software works. Coming from creating a work flow in SharePoint where you can create "if-and-or" branches it seems like the workflow portion could be ramped up. I would like for the workflow to know what type the user is (engineer/CAD/manager) based on the user rights I gave the system rather than make the user have to pick from a drop down box in item creation for the workflow to properly identify the next stage to take.

Recommendations to others considering the product

They offer a live WebEx demo of the software which does a fantastic job of going over all of the Omnify modules. Made2Manage is our main ERP system, Omnify works well with Made2Manage. My Omnify integration expert was on call for me every step of the way and still responds within minutes despite us going live with Omnify for a month now. Their technical support has responded within minutes of me sending in a support ticket, always knowledgeable and able to step me through any admin changes I need to make.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I was asked to eliminate all paper processes in the engineering department. The only papers the engineers get now is design requests from other departments or prints that need to hit production floor. Engineers have told me that Omnify has freed up on average 2 hours a day of their old paperwork and paper-chasing duties. It has been such a success that other departments in the company are looking into the benefits of Omnify and what they can do to speed up their process. It has made my engineers very happy.

"Change Analyst using Omnify for almost 10 years"

What do you like best?

The support from Omnify Software is extraordinary! The account service is fantastic, any question, any time, they are extremely responsive to any concerns. The tools are flexible, and can easily be adapted and upgraded. The tools are easy to install, build, and roll-out. Users can be up and running in no time.

What do you dislike?

Can't think of any downside, except to say i wish we could have installed sooner!

Usual problems of doc & BOM mgt, gaining consistency, having everything in 1 place. The tools allow multiple disciplines to see and share information, and they can see what it takes to get something from a napkin sketch to a factory build. Users see correct up-to-date info going to Vendors. They can easily check and verify that the Vendors and CMs are building what they dreamed of!

"Great product and great support from Omnify staff! Great tool to streamline business processes."

What do you like best?

Integrated change control and quality modules. Easy to use and navigate. Support staff goes above and beyond responding to issues and requests for features. They listen to customers and implement improvements.

What do you dislike?

Creation of manufacturing job/work instructions in the BOM Routing module. Process is too cumbersome relative to having to setup images/pictures as items in the software and as a result we use alternate tools for creation which is less than ideal. Would also be better to be able to create custom reports without having to involve Omnify personnel. Despite these two issues, it is a GREAT product complemented by GREAT customer service and support. They are passionate about their product.

Definitely worth considering! Give it a look. Application/integration folks are very helpful and responsive to needs. Class act!

Omnify PLM has helped us comply with ISO requirements, but more importantly it has been the single biggest business process improvement tool implemented into the business. Through integration with our ERP system, it has added controls and efficiency's beyond our initial requirements. Really like the association between change control and quality records.

"Nothing but Positive Results"

What do you like best?

The thing I like best about Omnify PLM is it's adaptability. We were able to configure the software until it fit our needs. When an administrative change needs to be made, it is easy to make. The other thing I like about this product is the people that are behind it. When we have questions or requests, their team is always willing to help.

What do you dislike?

We are still currently using 5.0, so this may no longer be and issue, but I have a hard time with the search functions. It is a little hard to understand at first, and not entirely that user friendly.

I would recommend that you take a close look at your needs company wide and ask the Omnify staff how their software can solve issues or fill specific needs of the company. They have multiple modules that you can add that may be helpful to other parts of your business other than the area you represent.

Before Omnify, we tracked out revisions via paper prints, and stored them in cabinets. As we grew into a larger company, this was no longer working, so finding a good PLM system was a high priority.

"Implemented Document Control/Training modules for Omnify"

What do you like best?

Document Change Control Process is easy to use and there are an unlimited amount of workflows that can be created in the system. The Change control process doesn't need to be used only for documents or Engineering Change Orders, but for anything that needs to undergo a structured approval process. The visibility of the workflow is also a great feature.

What do you dislike?

Any custom report (even to just re-format a report) must be requested through the Application Engineer instead of being able to configure it as the administrator. There is a 2 week minimum turn around time, but often times we have to wait much longer than 2 weeks. The training module isn't as advanced as expected (i.e. reoccurring training events aren't automated, but instead requires some manual intervention), the e-mail notifications are limited as well (i.e. for vendor releases, there is no email notification to the users in the workflow).

Understand your processes and expectations out of Omnify before going forward with Omnify, this way it will be clear whether or not this solution is right for your company.

"Great software, a bit expensive because you have to pay per user"

What do you like best?

Omnify is web based so it is really clean to implement across platforms. It has been a huge benefit to our company in enforcing the processes and procedures that we value. It also just works, we haven't had any problems with it crashing or locking up. It just works and has been great.

What do you dislike?

The latest version of Omnify requires that you pay per user, which is quite costly. We are paying for about 12 or so users and we wish we had about double that, but in order to save money we have limited it to that number which is a bummer. It would be much better as a floating license which could allow unlimited users, but only so many logged on at a time (it used to be like that but they changed it, obviously to gouge companies for more money). If it went back to a floating license model it would be just ideal.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Highly recommend it. Ask them for a floating license (even through they will say no) because paying per user is very expensive.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Using Omnify we enforce our release processes and have much more control over product development, changes and revisions. Doing that has led to many problems being improved and the software has certainly been worth the money.

"Great Flexible PLM Software"

What do you like best?

Omnify Software is fairly self-intuitive. It’s easy to set PN structure & the business requirements needed. You can define restrictive parameters, especially needed for ITAR or Customer/Vendor access. Home Page/Dashboard provides immediate access to your user-created items, along with you Review/Approval. The customizable Dashboard allows users to set their preferences & easily find parts or changes. The Omnify Quality Module (CAPA) interfaces nicely with the database, along with the ability associate the information to an item at a specific Revision Level. You can easily track all the changes in the system. One of the best things is the software development team are open to listening to customer feedback!!! Omnify values their customers & really listen to suggestions/concerns…they have implemented some of my requested features (a rarity with other PLM companies). Fast response with the Application Engineers once tickets are submitted, and you can easily track your case tickets online. System & User requirements are easily defined under the Administrative module.

What do you dislike?

After working with other PLM software systems, there is nothing I dislike about the software.

ITAR restrictive access was the biggest problem that was solved. Biggest benefit is the quick turn-a-round on part or change release.

"Omnify saved us"

What do you like best?

The responsiveness of the tech support and the application engineers is second to none. If I have a problem they help me fix it ASAP. When we ask for more features they show up in the next upgrade.

What do you dislike?

The new branching signoff has made it so I can't add users to existing signoff without starting over.

"Great transition from Access data base to PLM program"

What do you like best?

The short answer is easy of use. I can quickly import / export a BOM, compare revisions of the same design or compare different designs, determine which designs use a certain component, and update supplier information. When I have questions or need something tweaked a bit, they are very willing to listen and help. Data sheets for each of our suppliers can be stored with the supplier part number for quick access by designers. Instant updates are available to all users both in Omnify and OrCAD when a new part is added.

What do you dislike?

My use is somewhat more specialized and not as in depth as others. The biggest thing that I can think of is the part descriptions got out of sync when our layout team used "create new like" for part set up. But, Omnify support created a utility that fixed it. The other item is something on our "wish list". I have yet been able to figure out how to customize a report to extract the "where used" for a series of parts. This could be "user error" and not a deficiency on the part of Omnify.

Don't be afraid to ask questions. If you have special needs, out of the normal use, show them examples and give them time to look at it. Watch the web demos more than once. Thinking about the program days later I had more questions that were answered the next time I watched.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The division that uses this doesn't roll a PCA out to production. We are primarily R&D and silicon chip development/verification. We build PCA that is used in the development/verification process and for customer demos. We needed the ability to quickly extract a BOM with multiple suppliers for our CM to build to. If one of the suppliers we use has a part revision roll, we need the ability to look back at where used to determine if one of our chips needs validated with the new revision. Using the old Access data base, a lot of our BOMs were hand edited and it was easy to have errors. Our BOMs are now a trusted part of our process.

"Powerful and Convenient"

What do you like best?

Web based so it works with multiple sites from around the world. Multiple modules to handle all we need from documentation, production, quality, to all ISO modules.

Initial setup might take a bit longer time but Omnify is more than happy to help us.

"Omnify power user"

What do you like best?

I like that it's a web app, and that I can open multiple instances under various users.

What do you dislike?

Haven't really figured out how to ask for multiple BOM exports in one sitting. I have to go into each individual BOM and generate export from there. I'd really like to say "Omnify give me BOMS A,B,C,X,Y, and Z, then have each BOM exported without getting into each individual P/N.

"Seamless integration of ECAD tools with PLM system "

What do you like best?

Omnify provides database views that the Mentor Expedition tools can use for placing components into a schematic, and then allows BoM generation to be passed from the schematic into Omnify with no manual intervention. This gives excellent control of the BoM which can then be put under revision control alongside snapshot copies of the schematic (in pdf format).

The tools ability to very easily create complex component assemblies along with the required drawings and documents, all under revision control provides excellent support for purchasing as well as engineering.

The online and telephone support has always been first class, with highly motivated and very knowledgeable application engineers always available to help with any questions,

What do you dislike?

The early versions of the tools were server / client based which had some added functionality such as drag and drop while creating assemblies or doing searches which was lost when it went browser based. However, the benefits of no longer needing to do client installation / updates was a big bonus.

The changes to the way the licenses were allocated also created a few issues, as previously they were all floating among the user pool, but then it was changed so each user had to be allocated a license, Again, there was also an upside to the change, in that there were never any cases where a license was not available to the users.

The PLM tools market is changing all the time with product releases "leap frogging" the competition, but Omnify has consistently changed to reflect users requirements while keeping the core functionality that made us choose it originally.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Preventing BoM material errors on PCB assemblies by having the ECAD tools communicating directly with the parts database held in Omnify has saved board iteration and debug time.

Always being able to find the latest released version of any component or assembly along with any datasheet, drawing or document allows engineering and purchasing to use or build known good products. Also it allows engineering and support to be able to trace previous released versions and see what changes were made between them, by whom, when, and see the sign off path of any ECO that was used to drive the change.

"Omnify"

What do you like best?

We've had Omnify PLM since 2008 and love it. Easy to use, very flexible. We use Omnify to track things other than ECOs or CAPA, one of which are DFM issues with printed circuit boards. We have a workflow that we route in drafting and design to capture the problems and route thru to a resolution. We track customer issues in the CAPA module and our Sales & Marketing team uses the information listed in the custom CAR attributes for their metrics. We use custom attributes for items to track our ROHs/REACH/regulatory progress... We have specific ECOs to track part number maintenance issues and associated tasks. For example, manage inventory/change the cost standards in our ERP/etc before making a part inactive/obsolete.

What do you dislike?

Right now the biggest problem are these:

1. Sort the vendors on the Vendor tab-we have many and it would help to sort by the vendor or the manufacturer's part number

2. Sort names in the stages of any given workflow - we have a lot of names in some stages and to be able to sort alphabetically would make it easier to check if any name(s) is missing

3. The limit of 2000 lines in a search display

The integration between our ERP and Omnify is pretty seamless, we rely on that process to update our ERP with any ECO changes. Prior to getting Omnify, making BoM/Vendor/Item changes in our ERP and transferring the data to our overseas factory was entirely manual and there were a lot of discrepancies. With Omnify controlling the inputs, this nightmare went away. Everything is controlled and accurate. We can rely on the BoM and Vendor data to be correct in our ERP now.

Being able to capture all the approvals required for review of any drawing or document change in a central location has eliminated the question of who has the latest file and what file should be reviewed. Everyone sees the same thing in only one location. And the History tab for any ECO or CAPA flow is wonderful, especially when someone insists they did not see a change or a CAR, it's easy to prove that they did or didn't, based on what the History shows!

What do you like best?

The system is inclusive of all possibilities that can occur in documenting manufacturing and materials. The logic of the software is easy to understand and therefore once familiar with the system, easy to navigate.

"Omnify Empower PLM review"

What do you like best?

I like the cross-functionality of Omnify Empower PLM. From Item and BOM creation through the Change Order release process of those items and BOMS. Then the ability to quickly associate an item to a corresponding Quality/CAPA item is very easy.

What do you dislike?

We are currently running Omnify 5.0.4, I would like the ability to change an items Image URL from within a change order. I can only edit that image if an item is unreleased or with the Gold license.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Product change control is our basic function in using Omnify Empower. BOM accuracy is paramount.

What do you like best?

Simplicity and ease of use. We have found things that are clear and easy to use get used. Omnify fits this bill, but can also handle complex processes as required

Very few things. There are times when the rules that we have put in place prevent us from some quick change but these are intentional road blocks which we control.

"Omnify has been a handy tool for controlling documents and changes."

What do you like best?

I like how easy it is to maintain Rev. control of documents. I also like the ability to link associations between changes.

What do you dislike?

There is one annoying feature that comes to mind: When performing a "database search", you have to change the "Search for" field to the correct search type BEFORE typing your search into the "Search value" field. If you type your search into the "Search value" field and then change the "Search for" field, your "Search value" field will be cleared, requiring you to re-type it.

The latest BOM revision always shows active. I wish there was a way to force a BOM to become "Inactive" in Omnify. Sometimes products go obsolete or part numbers become abandoned. It would be nice to clean these unused "active" BOMs out of the system. Maybe there is a way, and I just don' know.

Omnify has been a handy tool for tracking BOM changes and for maintaining Rev. control of engineering documents.

We are tracking engineering changes and engineering document revisions. We use the software to sign off new documents for release as well as changes to existing documents. "Omnify review"

What do you like best?

The user interface is simple. I can easily search products with various parameters, such as vendor PN, description, etc. This system can help us maintain thousands of vendors and parts we are using with adding most information into it, including product status, datasheets, other documents. It's easily to find different categories. The webpage version is very helpful I can add and delete colleagues in sign off list easily. This is better than the one I used before. The history shows all records that is helpful to track and check if there is something wrong. Plus, some functions can be activated quickly if I click one button. By the way, system response is good, I can switch among different pages very quickly. It's really convenient!

What do you dislike?

The very thing I dislike about this system is that creating bill of materials in 5.0 version is really time-wasted, it's said the next version will be better. I wish it would be better. Another thing that I would like to mention is that silver license need to issue ECO to check out and check in files when updating files. That will take more time.

It will be very helpful if you tell your requirements to the Omnify staffs. Try to let them get your requirements and they might give you a surprise.

"Great Customer Service"

What do you like best?

It's a good program but more importantly their service is great.

Wish the reporting was more flexible and you didn't have a 40 character or less minimum.

We are currently updating from V3 to V7. it's a long slow road due to resources on our end. All at Omnify have been very patient with us and extremely helpful. While updating, we have ran into issues with 3, for example we needed a very specialized report and time was critical. Chuck McGinley worked with us until we were able to extract what we needed, he stayed with us until all our questions were answered, and then checked in after to insure we were successful in supplying what corporate needed. You do not see that type of service often in the industry.

What do you like best?

- Omnify's ease of use for Administrators

- System set up (adding Users, setting up Workflows, creating Form, Rules) is very simple. You don't need

OS/IT experience. Administrators can be trained and get up and running quickly.

- Omnify support

The technical support. They are quick to respond and truly care.

1. That I cannot see affected items and redlines in a split view. Time consuming switching tabs.

"Overall excellent tool but problem with recent upgrade"

What do you like best?

Ability to create documented ECO's. We still have work to do to make the disposition of material portion work for us but for the most part the tool is easy to use and controls documentation with visibility for all interested parties.

What do you dislike?

The only problem I have experienced is a serious one. After a recent upgrade many descriptions became duplicated. That is, different part numbers appear on the BOM with the same description. Very confusing, especially when you are searching for something by description!

"Omnify - a complete paperless system !"

What do you like best?

Flexibility w/ the attributes & custom fields. This allows us to add any field for an item, BOM, ECO, NCMR, etc.,

It's a very intuitive program, I've had to do little training for users.

What do you dislike?

An improvement area might be in the workflows (more options). I believe version 6.0 offers that. We are now using 5.0.3.

Omnify is very easy to set up, implement, and maintain. The Omnify support team has done an excellent job supporting the product for over 7 years.

One of the biggest problems that I would recognize as being solved is getting the necessary/critical information to all parties ASAP. All documentation is in the Omnify system, everyone has access !

Omnify's simplicity of layout, very easy to navigate user interface, and flexibility.

Some menus and commands are incompletely structured and detailed in the UI.

Ease of installation (premise-based, we have Omnify hosted locally), and ease of use are Omnify's two biggest business benefits. Cost comparisons put Omnify ahead for feature set, and application stability and scalability.

Business Issues:

Organizing and implementing a corporate-wide Engineering Change process, having a centralized respository for data files. Establishing a world-class means and methodology of generating part numbers, BOM's, and having that data easily within reach.

Benefits:

At least a 50% increase in workflow (design to manufacturing), coupled with a 50% cost benefit (everyone using the same application, standardized to perform the same tasks), as well as an overall net efficiency corporate-wide of approximately 70%.

Omnify offers a great balance of customization and ease of use, and It provides all of the core PLM functions needed for most sized organizations. I love the quick response time from Omnify Engineers when questions come up.

"Great for the basics"

What do you like best?

Good basic functionality. Adaptable to many quality system functions (complaints, CAPA, ECOs, etc). Easy to create new workflows.

What do you dislike?

Many functions are not well thought out. Comprehension tests in Training are great idea. But the test results are not linked to training completion. And there's no easy way to manage a failed comprehension exam and a re-take of the exam. There are pre-close tasks in Quality/CAPA module, but unlike the EC module, the pre-close tasks do not require completion prior to signoff.

Omnify has good basic functionality. It's much easier to use than to administer.

"Great integration with CAD tools"

What do you like best?

I like its adaptability the most - how the tool can be tweaked and modified to suit your organization's needs. The Omnify applications engineers provide excellent support for customization of the tool.

What do you dislike?

My biggest complaint is the speed - or lack thereof. As our organization has grown and our database has grown with it, I've noticed a significant decrease in speed. What used to take seconds takes minutes, and that adds up.

Relatively intuitive for new users to learn. Also reasonably well thought out for admins. Covers most of the general needs of an engineering based company.
