"Most used system with easy interface with a few opportunities for improvement"

What do you like best?

I think the best part is the universal nature of epic. In my experience, it is the most used EMR system across the country. This makes medical record transfer easier and lessened chance of needing to learn how to use a new system.

What do you dislike?

The interface is bland and sometimes complicated to find things. The software can be improved to better organize patient lists and find relevant items. For example, there seems to not be an option to do a general "search" field for the entire software. Additionally, the inability to obtain records outside of epic EHR is frustrating. Finding ways to improve compatibility with softwares that are not epic would be helpful

Recommendations to others considering the product

One of the best EHR systems available but has room for improvement

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Taking care of patients, obtaining medical records for patients, writing in the EHR system to update patient health information. We also use this to track patients for surgeries, emergency departments, and medical histories for outpatient visits.

"Epic"

What do you like best?

all patient's info found in one place (data merges from dr's offices & other departments), user-friendly, multiple ways to access or chart the same info based on preference

What do you dislike?

screen has a lot of information (busy) & it takes time to learn to navigate everything. the multiple ways to chart the same thing can be confusing to someone just learning the program. I'm not convinced that healthcare professionals were involved in designing this program. takes a long time to boot up the program. can't switch between users, have to log out & other user log in (which takes a bit of time)

Recommendations to others considering the product

we only had 1 month of support with the roll-out, & that was because we asked for it. it was a tough, somewhat painful roll-out compared to some others I've experienced over the years, & some Epic representatives were more knowledgeable/helpful than others. the first week without back-up was a hard one! thank goodness we still have 1 or 2 people we can call for questions & the super-users.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I'm on the clinical side (user of program), not the business side

What Medical Practice Management solution do you use?

Thanks for letting us know!

"Great for viewing patient records "

What do you like best?

The tabs are easy to use and can be customized per the user. The program does not lag and saves everything automatically. Epic is really easy for new users to learn and is intuitive. We has many older doctors change from using paper charts to Epic on their computers and they did not have an issue with the change. The tech support from the Epic team was amazing during the transition. They stayed for two weeks to help work out any problems and helped individual users to customize their Epic workspace.

What do you dislike?

It is somewhat difficult to use on a touch screen tablet with the pen. This takes up valuable time, usually hindering one on one time with a patient and may seem impersonal. Although on a normal desktop it is relatively easy to use, the tablet/ipad version seems to need some more work to make the interface more seamless to use.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It is an amazing program and easier to use than most other EMR systems

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It is easy to send messages, view the schedule, and patient history at the same time. It is also able to be customized to the professional level of the person using the program. For example interns can use a modified version of epic which limits their access to certain areas which may include confidential information, but they are still able to easily access their tabs. It has also solved the problem of communicating with doctors in different parts of the hospital.

"Medical Practice Administrator Use"

What do you like best?

Overall the most widely accepted to to easy of use and customization to your own portal. Both clinicians and administrators love the ease of use, templates, and remote access ability for both providers and more. Patients or families can easily access their own medical records.

World renowned medical records software that is both attractive to current employees and perspective employees. The confidence in knowing our electronic medical records are secure from modern threats, and is available to be upgraded with the every change healthcare system.

What do you dislike?

Sometimes organization choose to heavily customize their systems that may cause a downstream inability to receive new updates from EPIC. For my current hospital there are some desirable features and advancements that we are prevented from pursuing without going through a total system upgrade. Sometimes the system is so secure that employees have trouble accessing what they need without lengthy security authorization and role assignments.

Coders and IT professionals are limited in EPIC. Once the system is implemented an organization will struggle to appropriately staff and IT support team of analysts and developers.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Epic is the most advanced system. While costly to the organization there will be an immediate level in satisfaction among employees due to Epic's name and quality.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Patient safety, quality of care, and employee satisfaction all key accomplishments from a problem solving standpoint. As a widely used system this has allowed easier on-boarding and training for clinical staff familiar with Epic - decrease training time upfront. Streamline process to train and get access for all those that need it.

"Patient Care Rep User"

What do you like best?

It flows easier with the new update. You can easily add in new insurance and verify coverage for the patients. Fairly easy to input information for new patients to the system.

Love how easy it is to find patients in the system.

What do you dislike?

There seems to always be an error when adding in a work comp and doesn't seem to catch that we have filled out the information correctly. Always flags and says you haven't filled it out correctly.

Also when scanning in documents while checking in patients there doesn't appear to be away to delete old insurance cards out of the system which makes there chart appear congested.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Takes several days to figure out but once you remember all the functions and paths of how to get where you want to go it flows easy!

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Easily transfers from one doctors office to another allowing patients a faster check in time.

"Epic works well"

What do you like best?

Having online access to my health provider is extremely helpful. Epic runs the sites for both of my hospitals' electronic records and it works flawlessly. Not only can you communicate in a number of ways with your provider, there are also additional resources for more information, opportunities to volunteer for research, and more.

What do you dislike?

To be honest I don't think there is anything I would change.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I can't think of anything I would change.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It is incredibly useful to be able to access records electronically, instead of only via mail or in person contact. There are a number of services: you can access your medical records/vaccination list and results of tests, can contact your doctor's office (or specific care providers) with general or emergency questions, can exchange pictures, view past or upcoming appointments, and more.

"The best EMR I've used. "

What do you like best?

Epic is intuitive, loads fairly quickly, is easy to learn and easy to use. After becoming proficient in this software, you will continue finding new features that speed your work flow and make you more and more efficient.

What do you dislike?

The newest update changed the default colors and fonts, things are a bit more difficult to read now, but personalizing your settings can remedy this.

Recommendations to others considering the product

learn the software - it doesn't take long. Then you will keep learning about ways to be more efficient for literally YEARS!

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I work at a busy ER and we use Epic from the moment patients check in, to nursing triage notes, ER care including labs and imaging, inpatient notes/procedures, and outpatient care. Having everything in one place increases our efficiency - I can easily look up notes from a patient's previous visits to the ER or clinic, see their surgeries, read procedure notes and see old labs.

"Well organized EMR"

What do you like best?

Although no EMR is perfect, after having used several systems I have found EPIC to be the easiest and most intuitive. As a surgeon, EPIC makes it easy to navigate between inpatient wards, outpatient clinic and the status boards for the ORs. Searching for orders within the navigation panel is as easy as using google and searching for patients is simple using either the patient information, room number, provider etc.

What do you dislike?

Some of the hard stops within EPIC (areas you must fill out in order to complete an action) are cumbersome and do not align clinically with what we as physicians actually do. At my organization, we also have mobile access to EPIC however, we cannot write notes or place orders within the mobile framework which is challenging when on call.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We have had several downtimes to test our ability to function within Epic's offline module which has worked quite well and prepared us for the inevitable times when Epic will be offline

"Excellent EMR Program"

What do you like best?

Epic is a fast program - pages load under one second and are easy to switch between. Easy to navigate - everything is appropriately labeled. Generally user friendly - tasks are laid out in an intuitive manner. Appearance of the system is very up-to-date and refreshing. Charting is continually saved. Able to switch easily between tasks without losing any data.

What do you dislike?

Redudency in the system - a lot of the same information in different places; interface can be very busy and distracting. Certain tasks can be hard to find initially, but after several days learning the system, it becomes easier to navigate.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Highly recommend Epic as an EHR.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Using EPIC as an EMR. Primarly responsible for charting and reviewing hospital patients. EPIC is excellent for charting and contains all the patient's information on one system and is easily accessed quickly.

"It's a good change"

What do you like best?

Ability to access records across modules, and via CareEverywhere, you can access records from outside facilities instantly

What do you dislike?

There are a lot of customization and would need quite a bit of collaboration with front line user so the final product is useable. It is definitely a bit tougher for in-patient side of things.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I would say if your facility is considering EPIC, you do have to plan to have a good internal team to handle the implementation as well as ongoing support It is not a system that you purchase and expect the vendor handle your needs. Its more like Train the Trainer. So your IT team will pretty much handle all aspects unless it is something bigger.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Improve ability to drop charges. So far, users were able to do it with more ease compared to our previous system.

"Easy to learn and easy to use"

What do you like best?

I like that there are several different ways to do certain things. I also like the customization aspect that was included in this last update. This allowed me to move buttons around and utilize the buttons I use more often.

I also like the ability to pin frequently used sections under the Epic drop down menu.

What do you dislike?

I dislike that when scheduling patients for appointments in Epic we run into the problem of two patients being scheduled the exact same minute. This ends up double booking the provider, thus causing problems all around.

On the other hand, it does come in handy to be able to schedule in someone's chart while someone else is scheduling a different appointment.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Scheduling patients for appointments as well as checking them in and out for appointments. It's quick and easy to access.

"Easy program to learn"

What do you like best?

Easy buttons and editable text. Makes entering information easier with buttons and shortcuts such as Right click + M to make the text editable. Also love the F2 for the wildcards feature (***).

What do you dislike?

There's many options I don't use and I see sometimes it sets up my options per usage but I change from patient to patient chart so it automatically changes back to the "default" settings like I never changed them at all. No big deal as I've basically memorized where my mouse should be when the chart opens and what I need to access but it's just small seconds to be saved.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Training is provided and it is fairly simple to use. The training only lasted 2 of the scheduled 4 hours and everyone got a hold of the concept.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Only allows me to have 2 patient charts open which sounds like a downfall but I've entered a whole history on someone else's chart before realizing and it would definitely screw me up if I did that with more than 2 charts at the same time.

"An Efficient Way to Document and Track Patient Care "

What do you like best?

Epic is easy to navigate and learn, well organized, and efficient. The system makes it possible to track daily patient care from a variety of providers and allows clinicians to stay on top of orders, precautions, and other important information. I have never had an issue with the system.

What do you dislike?

The interface of Epic could be a little more user friendly. Overall, functions are easy to be found by experienced and intermediate users, but for a beginner it could be a little challenging. The tables across the database could be a little more readable.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Epic is a common system used by clinicians. It is relatively easy to use and is an excellent tool for maintaining productivity in the clinical setting, It is beneficial to take some time navigating the system prior to using it on the job.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I use Epic during my physical therapy clinical rotations. It helps me keep track of my patients' progress, as well as to share that information with my colleagues and supervisors.

"My Experience with Epic"

What do you like best?

The amount of customization options within Epic is impressive. I like having more control over a product within our own business entity rather than requiring support from the vendor to make simple changes and apply fixes.

What do you dislike?

There is quite a learning curve to wrap your head around all the different systems and controls that make Epic work. The needed training classes provided by them is proof of this.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Great company to work with and it's a good EMR to utilize in a large healthcare organization.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Epic allows us to provide as needed, up to date reporting and analytics for countless healthcare metrics. I am able to report on numerous data points that can be extracted in several different formats, even the ability to extract to third party software for further analysis.

"Epic"

What do you like best?

How concise the charting is for nurses. It takes way less time, and it is very easy to review notes, labs and previous nurse's charting.

The spreadsheet is a very clear format. It is easy to learn, and easy to communicate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team on it. I can communicate with doctors and pharmacy easily with Epic.

I have used other EHR and they pale in comparison with Epic. Epic has a clean layout and is very easy to read and customize.

What do you dislike?

I dislike that Epic is often just used as an auditing tool for healthcare providers. We are trying to help people.

I don't like that companies often try to customize Epic too much and then it can become confusing for new users to learn it.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The benefits of Epic are that I spend less time charting, but my documentation is still good. This gives me more time to spend with my patients.

"Probably the gold standard for electronic medical records"

What do you like best?

Full integration with ability to customize. I think the most important thing is the Care Everywhere feature that allows communication and sharing of information between organizations. It is very common these days for people to have healthcare needs across multiple healthcare systems and Epic helps bring that all together in one place.

What do you dislike?

There was a bit of a learning curve using EPIC. Some features were very intuitive while other were not as intuitive and took some time to learn. But I would assume most EMRs require some learning curve as things are unfamiliar and need to find how to get to certain information. The only negative I have found so far is the inability to create a spreadsheet selecting only the information you want all in one Summary tab. But from what I hear, this is an organization issue applying limits to its interface rather than EPIC itself.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Seems to be the gold standard across most hospital systems. I've also had the opportunity to use other EMRs which show amazing potential and intuitive interfaces but its like the Apple iPhone and how many people stick with it because of the ecosystem and everyone else has one...

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Everything in healthcare is heading towards EMR. It has helped to streamline a lot of documentation. Somethings are still easier on paper but that seems to be an area where we will need to adapt.

"EPIC Systems"

What do you like best?

It can be used between all services within the healthcare sector-- billing, clinicians, scheduling. Our scheduling department can easily see what the clinic is doing and billing for. Our labs can work easily with us and review orders, along with radiology. Our nurses and physicians can easily communicate with eachother and patients and it helps to ensure that all patient's questions are answered and nobody gets left behind.

What do you dislike?

There are several steps to achieve even the smallest actions. Often takes five clicks to accomplish a sign off or a close out and at times can seem inefficient. Additionally, it would be helpful is the side bars and other customizable items would stay and be consistent aross all patient charts instead of having to reconfigure often. There are several different places to find the same thing and this can be beneficial or add a layer of complication that isn't necessary.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We are able to screen patients and group them which is helpful, especially within clinical trials and being able to determine which patients were seen. Additionally, it helps with communication between departments (i.e. surgery and oncology).

"Epic is a great tool to use for a hospital system"

What do you like best?

I like that there are a wide variety of functionalities you can use on Epic.

What do you dislike?

There are some functionalities that you are unable to use, such as creating certain queries that would benefit the department. It is sometimes hard to figure out how to use epic. It should me more user friendly.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Get any type of training you can at your organization so you can use all of the functions Epic has to offer.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

"A lot of problems and no help"

What do you like best?

The whole system integrates scheduling, charting, and a lot of other tracking into one. We are able to communicate with any other provider that uses epic in any state.

What do you dislike?

Little to no support, training was limited and did not explain the system at all. It was slow and did not have everything up and running ready to go.. not on the first day.. not even the first month. It has taken 3 months to be semi functional. And the fact that it is not a web browser type and is a program makes it more difficult to swap back and forth through other programs

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you are able to withstand a lot of backlash from employee when switching and having a LOT of issues when it rolls out with little support, then maybe this will work for you. It really does help put everything in one place, and makes charting so much easier.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

"The best system for EMR"

What do you like best?

Easy to navigate thru the screens. VERY user friendly. Charting is fast and easy. You will not spend a lot of time doing your assessment which leaves more patient time.

What do you dislike?

When I had a NAS baby, I had to search for the Finnegan Scoring each time. I couldn't figure out how to have it populate on my regular charting. The system only lets you have 3 charts open at a time. I would like to have more open at once.

Recommendations to others considering the product

The easiest EMR to use. Many hospitals are using or going to use this product. Even the non computer physicians told me Epic was much better than the previous system.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Epic lets me, as a nurse, spend less time on the computer and more time with my patient. I can actually talk to my parents and educate them like I want to, not when I've caught up on my charting.

"Epic is a great way to coordinate patient care!"

What do you like best?

I love the ability to share patient information across health care systems. It's pertinent to be able to share patient information and coordinate care across multiple providers. Epic is a way to centrally locate all patient health information: registration, scheduling, clinical documentation, lab results, etc. Epic has multiple modules for every area of health care: inpatient, ambulatory, billing, etc.

What do you dislike?

The documentation on Epic's website isn't always complete. From an analyst standpoint, the documentation isn't always step by step.

Recommendations to others considering the product

When implementing Epic, make sure you have a large enough team with a solid understanding of Epic to complete the work. It's not worth it to have a lean team. Invest in your teams.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I am certified in the EpicCare Ambulatory, Healthy Planet, Security, and Resolute Hospital Billing for Single Billing Office. I have solved multiple problems from population health management to implementing new providers on Epic to improve their workflows and documentation.

"Better than other EMRs I have used."

What do you like best?

Charting is fairly self-explanatory and navigation is intuitive. Medication reconciliation is quick.

What do you dislike?

Sometimes takes multiple clicks to get to a freetext area. Doctors notes automatically draw in a lot of unneeded info. Inputting surgical history is confusing as many basic procedures are not there. No ability to free text nursing surgical or medical hx without putting it under 'other.' Going through scanned outside documents is awful.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Using this in an ambulatory pre-surgical clinic within a large hospital. It's easier and safer to have everything at the click of a few buttons with easy to read text -- don't have to decipher handwriting or go through fifty pages to find the lab results I want.

"A big step but worth the outcome"

What do you like best?

The interface, I absolutely love the ease of use and how, after a short training, I feel confident in finding necessary data within the EHR. I like knowing that my patient's data exists in every clinic they are seen in. I can see other important visits when they see me.

What do you dislike?

The cost. It is very expensive to switch and the costs continue. Every time a new practice or hospital is acquired, every new employee, every advanced training in Verona. Regular users don't have many options to customize and change their things. It requires expensive analysts and specially trained people to make necessary customizations.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It will take time to recover from the costs but it is worth the ease of use, support, and patient safety improvements.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

"EPIC for RNs"

What do you like best?

There have been many changes made since I have started using epic some I have liked and some I have not but one of my favorite things that changed was it allows you to customize the way you organize things. You are able to pick tabs that you use most frequently which makes charting more convenient for you. I also like the fact that it is set up so it is easy to chart the normals on patients & you don't need to chart with an excessive amount of detail but you are able to add details where you need to. I also like that when our epic system has downtime they have a read only option available to double check patients medications and armbands with the chart so that we are safely able to give the medications even though we have to wait to chart it. The medications also are connected between epic & pyxis so that you are reminded what time you gave the medications during downtime when you need to chart it when the system comes back.

What do you dislike?

The only thing I do not like is not really even an epic software issue. Our PACU does paper charting but medications that are ordered still show up on the MAR as due and when the patients arrive at the floor the medications are showing up as overdue for us even though they weren't our medications to give. I think this is more of a hospital issue though than a software issue.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We have an awesome new system set up through epic which is able to tell us when our patients might be at a dangerous level of infection due to their vital signs and other things that are charted. This means we basically have an extra set of eyes to catch anything that we might have missed and prevent patients from getting sicker than they need to get! It also keeps reminding you until something is done about the issue to make sure the patient gets the care that they need & in a timely manner.

"Epic as EMR"

What do you like best?

I am a medical student and I use EPIC as the electronic medical record system at NYU Langone medical center. I find it it to be pretty intuitive to use, including to input notes and too look up information, lab values, and test results. I don't have experience inputting orders so I can't speak to that. I especially like the Haiku app that accompanies EPIC. I can access Epic on my phone or tablet, which is very convenient.

What do you dislike?

I dislike that you can't enter notes and can't see all notes when using the Epic Haiku app. I love the idea of bringing the EMR with me wherever I go, but I wish that there were more of the normal features. As it stands, the Haiku version of epic is a rather limited version of the Epic app.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I would recommend taking time to do tutorials as you start using the app. It takes some time getting used to. The support from epic is good, but takes time to learn about the features while you are getting used to it.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

One of my favorite aspects of Epic is the OneCare, where personal health information recorded in Epic at other hospitals can be shared across hospitals. This makes it much easier to share electronic records between hospitals. For example, when information needs to be collected from hospitals that don't use Epic, often the records needs to be faxed which adds time and is quite inconvenient.

"The best electronic medical record for hospital-based practice"

What do you like best?

Fairly intuitive software with multiple ways to view results, documentation, and enter orders. Being able to pull old notes and visit diagnoses forward and amend is useful. I also like being able to create "favorites" for medications and orders. The search feature works well. I also appreciate that it is customizable and has features unique to specialty. Within ophthalmology, the exam features (previous vision, intraocular pressures, etc) are very helpful.

What do you dislike?

There are many individual clicks and checkboxes to close a single encounter, which can be tedious when repeated dozens of times per day. There are some built-in shorcuts like "mark all as reviewed", but these function in only certain instances and could be modified to save time in other fashions.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Fully mastering the software requires a great deal of time using the product. EPIC training courses can be helpful but are not extremely useful in navigating day-to-day tasks. These are best learned by having multiple patient scenarios and someone assist you in finding features that can execute these more efficiently. I am still learning new things to speed up workflow, so having someone routinely evaluate how to improve use would be helpful.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Allows better sharing of healthcare records, improving accuracy of coding & diagnosis.

"Works very good aboce all, but several steps are needed"

What do you like best?

Safety of patient's information.

Very good vital signs integration over long periods time.

Quick access to patients information in a not-so-cramped screen.

Ease of communication with other providers

Accessible to input information for clinical studies

Works good with pharmacology warnings

Accessible from almost everywhere, even home in a very secure environment. Great tool when you're always on the move, as doctors are.

Great integration with diagnostic and imaging software. Although I think that the other vendors play a huge role in this, but Epic seems to accept them well.

What do you dislike?

Takes lots of steps to get precise information from any given patient.

Difficult to find specific information about any given patient or condition when you're looking at a disease great picture.

The most accurate information you need the more steps Epic will take, although this might not be a Epic per se problem, but I think this could be greatly improved and appreciated.

Recommendations to others considering the product

You'll get a lot of time to get used to it. When you do, its very useful for some things such as reviewing large patient's charts, and also long term input.

Great for communication with other doctors outside your campus about their patient's information if you're a consultant-

Great tools for entering information, such as completing words and templates.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

this is a huge platform that can be accessed from almost anywhere in the world and from any device, therefore is a great tool for gathering, entering, accessing patient's information.

I like that Epic is easy to navigate. Some healthcare information systems are not user friendly and not intuitive to use. Epic is easily navigable. I also really like to ability to use dot phrases in Epic. This makes my charting and work life so much easier and faster to be able to utilize pre-written information in my assessments/re-assessments.

What do you dislike?

At times it can be confusing how to exit out of a certain part of the chart. Also, it sometimes takes many clicks to get to a certain component--I think certain sections could be a little easier and a little more user friendly

Recommendations to others considering the product

I think Epic is a very easy program to use and is easy to navigate. I have used other healthcare information systems in the past and Epic is by far my favorite to use. It does require some training on, given there are some aspect that you would not know unless someone trained you on it. But, once training is done it is very easy to use.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I utilize epic as a dietitian and it is beneficial that Epic has an easy to read flow sheet option to look at weights, vitals, labs etc. It is also very beneficial in looking at patients previous medical history--because the chart review aspect is very easy to navigate and with the option to filter certain things, it is very easy to find what I am looking for.

"Epic is Epic!"

What do you like best?

Epic provides a very robust system to track patient information as well as prioritizing data security. I like the notes features in there, and as a Medical scribe I was able to track more about a patient. I also like the Patient Engagement as it allowed patients to view their info online in myCharts.

What do you dislike?

Sometimes the system has way to many features that I am not aware of. I wish there was an easier place to find documentation. Sometimes I get stuck figuring out what a status in the system means when I have a patient.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Epic is a great software for all healthcare facility. They provide a good system to track all patients information.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We use Epic for patient engagement and clinicals. Our practice used this system to record patient info as well as well as for scribe purposes.

"Epic software "

What do you like best?

Epic is very useful for workers who deal with appointments. What I like best about epic is the level of professionalism we can offer our patients with this program. The way that appointments are being scheduled makes it easy for both the worker and the patient. You can access the name of a doctor in no time as well as patient information. It is very helpful to precisely see time and dates that one will be scheduled for. What I also like best is that you are able to send automatic calls and text reminding your patients of appointments or text they have coming up.

What do you dislike?

What I truly dislike about epic is that there are many functions that sometimes can be a bit confusing to navigate through. When first learning about epic I thought I wouldn't understand it at all. Many functions are rarely used which makes it most difficult to use when trying to learn and understand epic. Looking for patients and knowing what we can and cannot schedule can be also confusing at first. But really there isn't much to dislike.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I would definitely recommend this software for other clinics and hospital looking to find a way to make it easier for their patients wanting to see their doctors. It gives them times that are both good for them and the doctor and keeps all their files and information safe an secure. It also has the option to send automatic calls and text to patients to remind them of their appointment. Truly great soft to use for any company in the medical field.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Well I don't know about problem solving for business but what I have realized that it makes working much easier on everyone. Patients want to learn more about doctors or locations for clinics and they want precise time and dates. Simply asking for their names and addresses makes it really easy to schedule their next visit with their with their doctor, and happy patient is a happy business. More benefits epic has that it's less time consuming when scheduling appointments it gives us more time to fit in all of our patients for an appointment. Other benefits I have realized is the amount of security we have using this software knowing that our patient information and files will always be safe.

"Excellent Customizable Product for Small to Medium Sized Community Hospitals "

What do you like best?

Epic allows for a lot of customized write ins as well as multiple drop down or multi select options when using it for documentation. It can be used for inpatient, outpatient, and home health documentation. Documents can be read from multiple disciplines and easily accessible.

What do you dislike?

Sometimes, it is difficult to print items. It also can get difficult to update items, especially seperate items such as G-codes. It will clock in every update on a separate line. Thus, if you put in the score and title and hit save, then add in goals and hit save, they are on separate columns, making it difficult to read.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Be sure to get acquainted with this product by having another colleague run through where everything is located at. It is a bit tricky to navigate initially but then it becomes easier to go through each screen and document appropriately.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Offering a better patient experience by providing a safe place to store and retrieve files from the patient during their entire medical case.

"Epic"

What do you like best?

I used Epic for my health care notes documenting. I really like the smart phrases, where you can create dot phrases of commonly used notes. Instead of typing the long note, you can now type the short dot phrase. The pre populated templates save a lot of time when charting. I like the toolbox function as well bc it allows easy ability to upload patient surveys.

What do you dislike?

There thing I dislike is that it doesn’t organize patient demographics in a consistent area. Sometimes the chart would note the height in different navigation screens. I don’t like that you can’t attach surveys directly in the patient’s encounter but you have to exit out and send attachments using inbasket function.

Recommendations to others considering the product

This is by far a better database compared to the ones with the county. It is customizable, which is important in catering epic to your needs

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It is a great tool for charting and documentation. It is very easy to use and customizable.

"Epic--Best EMR System Period"

What do you like best?

I love's Epics interface. It is extremely user-friendly, easy to navigate, you can search for anything you're looking for, it's fast, and it simply gets the job done. It is so much better than other systems I've used in the past. It makes documenting so much quicker, too. And, you can even personalize the color and fonts on your own log in!

What do you dislike?

I don't know if this varies from health system to health system, but the main thing I miss (from previous EMR systems I've used) is the prompting of certain documenting to be completed by a certain time. For example, if a pain reassessment is due, there is no prompting in Epic for me to complete it by a required time.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I think Epic is really the best EMR system out there. I've used around 3 so far, and really nothing comes close to my experiences with Epic.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I am using this system in the hospital in which I am currently working to document all procedures, assessments, and medications I have administered as a registered nurse.

"Epic-A great future for your company"

What do you like best?

Epic has implemented the future with patient data with outstanding organization and support. It is easy to use and has allowed us to grow in providing the best care possible with patients

What do you dislike?

This software is 1 year old with our company so I understand troubleshooting with new software, however, EPIC has occasionally gone into unplanned downtime which leaves the work environment at high stress levels and makes our quality of patient care go down.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

With epic we chart on patients, their demographics, health history, medications, basically anything and everything that has to deal with the patients care, as well as scheduling.

"EPIC Experience"

What do you like best?

The interface is really great, easy to organize medical information. The charts are all live so multiple healthcare providers can edit the same chart. This software encourages integrated teamwork and collaboration. Customer support is great, with real IT techs here to answer questions.

What do you dislike?

You must log in, and then sign in. If you forget to sign out, your name is still on the board as present at work. Some users are not allowed to edit certain parts of the chart, which may be an easily fixed setting in the software.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We are streamlining the patient care flow in the hospital using EPIC. The charts of our patients are now live and accessible to other specialists and healthcare providers who wish to view the charts from an another facility who also uses EPIC

"Put up with some bad for a lot of good"

What do you like best?

Epic is a fully integrated medical records software. It is obvious that they have put a lot of thought into the different components so that each is accessible in other areas. I appreciate the uniformity in use that allows actions to be completed quickly and efficiently. It is well thought out out such that all information is available with minimal distractions and without requiring a lot of clicking. One of the most useful features is care everywhere which integrates inpatient and outpatient information from other medical centers using Epic. I believe this feature will make them extremely competitive to dominate the market.

What do you dislike?

At times, accessing information can be tedious and the steps required to complete a series of tasks can be complex and not intuitive.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Check to make sure your health care system would benefit from the care everywhere feature. It may be more useful to go with a product used more frequently in your area.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Epic allows me to streamline care of patient's by fulling integrating patient data from the outpatient and inpatient setting.

"not the most intuitive but extremely functional"

What do you like best?

EPIC isn't the most intuitive software to use, and it's a lot of work to learn how to use it. However, once you're used to this software, it's the most functional thing in the world. I love how customizable it is. I also love how I can quickly generate charts/graphs from a variety of datasets, without a lot of hassle. The screen can be a bit overwhelming to look at, but once you learn how to access the parts of the software you need, it's a breeze!

What do you dislike?

EPIC is overwhelming at first, and it's tough to learn. Some things aren't very intuitive. However, I wouldn't say this is a criticism of the software, because it's an EMR, so naturally there is a TON of information to deal with, and it would be impossible to design a UI that is intuitive to use right off the bat. I think some of the older employees I work with have a tough time getting used to it, because they use easy, simple technology like apple products, but for us younger employees, it's not so difficult.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I really like this software, but one of the problems that our hospital had was data going missing during the transition from paper records to EMR. So, if you are transitioning, it is important to make sure that you don't lose any patient data, to make sure everything is scanned appropriately, and ensure that all of your old data get submitted to the system.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I use EPIC to collect research data for patients that I put on studies. This is much better than our old system in which everything was on paper. with epic, a doctor can upload an order, note, etc. and I can read it from anywhere in the hospital.

"User friendly and dynamic"

What do you like best?

I love the sticky note feature that allows you to communicate more urgent updates about a patient that will show as soon as the physician opens the patient chart. I also love how user friendly it is and allows you to customize what information you want to see about a patient right on your schedule vs having to click on each chart to get quick info (eg. DOB, MRN, PCP) I

What do you dislike?

Switching schedules between departments is not as smooth because although there are much of the same features, it's not consistence between inpatient and outpatient departments

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Having a more systematic electronic health record to monitor patients and make it easier to approach patients health in an interdisciplinary manner. I've realized that communication through this EMR is a lot easier than other EMRs I've used

"EpicCare EMR"

What do you like best?

Epic has many features and shortcuts that help you work efficiently.

What do you dislike?

The layout/organization can be confusing, and for my role (social work), there are many features that are not necessary. However, they are necessary for other medical roles.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It is very helpful to have training on using this program- it is not necessarily intuitive at first, but once I was trained I can find my way around easily.

"Efficient but sometimes frustrating"

What do you like best?

I really love that Epic is user friendly. They've incorporated colors, themes, larger prints and other customized options for each user to see what they need to quickly.

What do you dislike?

I dislike how often they do upgrades and how significant the changes are! They're not minor and there isn't an email sent out with the types of changes made. You just get to find out as you're working and can't figure out what to do.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Be patient and ask for help before getting too frustrated. What you're looking for is likely just in a place you're not expecting it to be,

"A gold star for medical record data management"

What do you like best?

The ability to view an entire hospital's patients in one place, to be able to check order status and order history, to be able to check the reasons for order cancellations. The ability to integrate multiple hospitals into one system for seamless data transfer.

What do you dislike?

Steep learning curve, every level of access has extremely different interface so it's difficult to tell users with more/less privileges how to access some features. Can be difficult to track patient movements from one unit to another.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Can have a steep learning curve so takes time to implement in new areas. Patience is definitely required.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Being able to integrate multiple providers across multiple areas of the state into one system, seamless transfer of information between providers. Being able to lock more sensitive records to prove patients are not getting accessed without viable reasons.

"Epic user"

What do you like best?

You can edit your chart to look like how you want to see it, organize patients, what about patients you want to view. It's easy to navigate and everything is very straight froward. It autosaves the stuff you enter. So if for some reason you forget to file the info you type, it's okay because the system auto-saves. This has saved me many times!

What do you dislike?

I think it's a steep learning curve to really get the ins and outs of all Epic can do. It's almost necessary to train users how to navigate through it, it's tough to figure out if you don't have someone train you how to use it (my company provided this training thankfully). I also think Epic could be organized a little better. There are so many different tabs and preferences to consider, which is overbearing for something that could be made easier. However, my current Epic experience is limited so I might think otherwise in a few years! By all means, these "dislikes" are no reason not to use Epic.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It is worthwhile to spend time training your employees on how to use Epic. It is not something you can learn just by playing with, at least not well. It will help users immensely to be provided with quality training from someone who has a lot of experience!

"Wound Care Nurse in Academic Inpatient Hospital"

What do you like best?

I can keep a list of patients that I follow regularly, assign myself to patients, and have new consults automatically drop onto my "new consults" list when another healthcare practitioner initiates a consult. I find that the format is fairly intuitive for inpatient charting, order entry is relatively easy as well. I enjoy being able to run daily reports for pressure injuries currently in the hospital, filtered by stage. Epic seems to flow well between different buildings, both on and off campus, through the health system I work for. I have experienced this both as an employee and as a patient.

What do you dislike?

Customizing features on LDAs has been a very slow process. Up until recently, ostomies were included under LDAs when they should have been under the GI section all along; fortunately, this has been corrected recently.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Recruit Epic training staff with healthcare backgrounds so they can really understand staff's wants and needs re: customization, and implement as many of these customizations prior to launch so that staff do not experience unncessary complications and frustrations upon launch. Continue to respond promptly to hospital and clinic staff concerns/wants along the way.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Continuity of care; integration of patient records throughout the health system; ability to upload photos from the Haiku app into the patient notes; ease of writing orders and notes.

"best charting tool i have used"

What do you like best?

Epic is user friendly, consistent and visually easy on the eyes. I would consider not accepting jobs in the future if they did not use Epic.

What do you dislike?

I think there are unnecessary upgrades at times (Why fix it if it ain't broke) and then everyone has to get used to the new Epic.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Epic saves nurse's time by having all the necessary charting in mostly one place. There is no double charting required. It also makes care for patients safer and more efficient because all of the doctor's orders are on the PER or MAR. Those are literally the only places to find doctor's orders as opposed to other charting programs where there are so many different places to look that things can easily be missed.

"Epic healthcare software"

What do you like best?

I enjoy the organization of the charting system, allows for quick pull up of specific areas as well as organized head to toe examination charting. I also like that epic is universal and used in many hospitals, allowing transitions from one hospital to another to be easier.

What do you dislike?

I dislike some of the repetitiveness that some areas of charting have, as well as the options that are provided at times. For example, provider notification does not include a nurse practitioner but does include a physicians assistant.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Epic allows for quick charting of important information without the tediousness of paper charting, it allows for quick reflection from the entire stay of the patient as well as previous encounters with patients allowing care givers to get a more thorough background.

"Epic takes training to learn how to use the software efficiently."

What do you like best?

I like being able to easily access other healthcare professionals' notes regarding a shared patient. It is also extremely useful to be able to filter through the documentation based on discipline to easily access notes. I like being able to see when my patient has been checked-in by the front desk. I like being able to use pre-set options to select from when documenting a treatment session.

What do you dislike?

I dislike having to delete a note to correct a time change if I forget to change the time prior to starting my note.

I also dislike how we have to "file" our documentation after completing the spreadsheet.

It becomes easier over time to get used to documentation system after practice and experience, however, I think the program can be simplified and easier to understand.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Be sure to take the training and to take notes while in the training course!

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Epic is used as our main electric health records and documentation program. It is useful to improve communication and collaborative care between healthcare professionals. I have realized how important it is to be able to navigate the program to read orders, notes, and see imaging in order to provide efficient care for our patients.

I use epic in the context of my work in IT. It only took about 2 hours of formal training to figure out the necessary aspects required for my job, mostly in Beaker. It’s customizable so I can set it up with the tabs I use most. The dashboard is a great “home screen” where I can get to my favreports and find patient specimens quickly.

What do you dislike?

What do you like best?

Labeled tabs across the top and side make it easy to find notes and referrals from other providers. The calendar on the main page is also very helpful, lines up patient appointment times very nicely and show when they have arrived. Shows all appointments within the same facility, easy communication between health care providers.

What do you dislike?

Each epic program seems to be formatted differently based on different companies, I have used epic at 3 different locations and all had many variations that I had to re learn. It also takes a very long time to open when the computer first turns on, not sure if this is an epic issue or with the wifi/ computer system.

What do you like best?

I enjoy the ease of use with Epic as opposed to the Soarian system our hospital used to utilize. It’s much more user friendly, the formatting isn’t intimidating and anyone with a basic knowledge of computer software can manage to use the system effectively.

What do you dislike?

I can honestly say there is nothing about this program that I can think of that I dislike. It’s made a huge difference in how we treat our patients.

Recommendations to others considering the product

"Epic "

What do you like best?

I am able to easily access any physicians notes regarding the patients visit for additional information for further patient care. I also like being able to directly send links to patients via email for My Chart. I am a huge advocate for using My Chart. Also, any medications that the patient may be on we also can access for any procedures where meds may conflict.

What do you dislike?

Alongside being able to see the patients chart and physician notes sometimes I feel that we see information that is not pertinent to the patients exam. Too much information can be seen and I feel that even though its not apart of their patient care I shouldn't have certain access.

Recommendations to others considering the product

"Reliable and Effective"

What do you like best?

Epic does a great job of being easily navigable and has the necessary functions needed to maintain EHR.

What do you dislike?

As someone who is part of the digital era, I value a great user interface and contemporary look to programs. The epic program I had used a few years ago reminded me of the 90s (windows 99 look) and I think approaching the 2020s we should be able to find a way to make the interface easier on the eyes and navigable.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I highly recommend EpicCare EMR. It's something that is widely used among large hospitals and is effective in the maintenance and organization of records. I'm not too certain how it is used to access patient data for treatment purposes as I was only using it for screening purposes. But for how I used it, it was definitely easy to use.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

EpicCare EMR helps with maintaining a secure electronic medical record for patients. It maintains the files orderly and allows you to have lab test results and diagnostic reports all in one place. I used it mainly for research purposes, specifically screening patients for different research studies. It helps with sorting through patients to find ones that are applicable for screening.

"Epic"

What do you like best?

Epic is easy to navigate and has several tabs that can be customized to what you want to view. There is also a search feature, which makes searching for keywords more efficient. Otherwise, I would have to search through each individual note of other practitioners to see if they had commented or made note of whatever I’m looking for in the patient chart. They have a system that can notify you of new results for a patient, which is also convenient, especially if you’re waiting for lab result or imaging read to return. I have also worked with the EMRs for the VA system and AFB, and Epic is superior.

What do you dislike?

For the search feature, it must be an exact match and does not show results that are similar. This can be an issue if there are misspellings or unpopular acronyms are used.

Efficiency and having a more complete patient history.

"EPIC User Review"

What do you like best?

Epic is easy to navigate and triggers a user to rearrange tabs that are frequently used to make it easier to find. The interface looks a little outdated, but a user can change their primary colors, which is a nice personal touch. This may be a hospital specific feature, but only one chart is allowed open at a time, which lowers the risk of errors in charting. You are also able to link and send other staff notifications of a note entered if it requires their attention.

What do you dislike?

As stated above, the interface of Epic is a little outdated. The buttons for each function just look old. It also locks you out after minutes of inactivity, which can be frustrating if I am still at my work station but get interrupted by a phone call. There are so many options and possibilities, but some of them don't seem necessary.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Epic is easy to learn and use. There are options for separate hospitals to share notes of common patients, increasing the quality and continuity of care.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I have never used any other hospital charting system other than EPIC. It allows me to easily chart in a patient's record, send and receive notifications of other notes when added to my patient files. We also use a voice to text system with EPIC, which has decreased my documentation time.

"Best EHR software available"

What do you like best?

This software is highly efficient for workflow and enables better patient care. Further, this software is great to have all information in one place and interoperable with other systems using Epic software. The software is fairly easy to navigate and intuitive to use, though the software takes time to implement fully into practice. Compared to paper-based record systems and other electronic health record softwares, Epic is the best software currently available.

What do you dislike?

The software is very expensive with hidden costs (e.g. advanced features that require individual implementation fees). Further, it is difficult to find the best workflow when using this software within a hospital system (i.e. there are many ways to do one task, thus creating a barrier to optimization). Finally, the software is currently not as flexible or customizable as would be desired. With each upgrade, the system is more fully usable and takes into account many requests for features. However, the system still lacks some basic editor processes (e.g. attachments or images in patient messaging).

Recommendations to others considering the product

Requires buy-in from clinical staff - allocate appropriate time and resources to training, implementation, and go-live support.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Epic software enables better patient care, hospital data analytics, and efficiency for patient tracking, scheduling, and prescribing. The software also helps reduce human error. The sotware has leading-edge capabilities that facilitate the best patient care and reflect the highest advancements in health care.

"Industry standard."

What do you like best?

I love how easy it can be to chart in Epic. The flow of patient information from one hospital to the next is so important to patient safety. I’ve used it at a small community hospital and at a large trauma center. It’s diverse enough to be customized to many environments.

What do you dislike?

There can be many different ways to do a task. Sometimes too many options can cause confusion.

Recommendations to others considering the product

No regrets.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Definitely the sharing of pertinent information. I can say that Epic has helped me save lives. When I have a patient who can communicate, I can find everything I need in their Electronic medical record.

"Epic from a build consultant "

What do you like best?

It’s very powerful from every Healthcare perspective. Whether you’re tracking reporting or counting from every angle in a hospital or clinic Setting there is a way to get your best most accurate numbers from this system.

What do you dislike?

Sometimes change is that healthcare finds that it needs changes with circumstances that developers do not see coming from the customers. Coding sometimes takes time but epic is very good and workarounds. So sometimes a workaround may take a Little extra time but there’s always a solution available .

Recommendations to others considering the product

It’s the best and worth the money and time to acquire. Your not just purchasing software you are partnering with a unique company for the best build of yours and your community’s healthcare needs and outcome.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Modernizing the healthcare experience for the best outcome for a patient whether it be tracking referrals and obtaining order authorization before a patient calls the schedule has been one benefit we have solved and realized with epic.

"Better than most EMR software"

What do you like best?

The customization was excellent. I worked on a very specialized care team, which required charting that was unique to our reporting and compliance needs. Epic was far more easy to

What do you dislike?

I was involved in training users on this software. The complexity of the user interface could use some work. If you're a seasoned EMR user and/or generally good with computers, it's not hard to learn, but for doctors and other healthcare staff who are set in their ways, it made for time-consuming training.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Begin training early and put together visual documentation (e.g. pictures). The fact that it's feature-rich also means that it's easy for software newbies to get confused and resistant to using it -- there's just so much there on the screen!

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Because Epic saves notes in real time, clinicians don't lose documentation if they accidentally close the software. This saves a lot of time on slower computers. It's also much easier to open and read notes efficiently than it was on the software we were previously using, which saves a lot of time in daily rounds.

"Too cluttery, but intuitive"

What do you like best?

Even though the interface was very cluttered, once you got the hang of it, it wasn't difficult to get from one place to another. I was able to find the relevant patient information I needed with ease.

What do you dislike?

There were too many tabs I had to sift through to get to where I needed to be, and the screen was often too busy so it was hard to find what exactly I needed. Viewing patient appointment times required a few too many clicks than it should have. Additionally, finding specific photographs and documents that had been scanned in within a patient's profile was difficult. The iPad app was also slow and crashed often, and would sometimes not accept login information that was correct.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I was using this to access patient information in the context of clinical research. It was beneficial in pulling previous patients visits.

"Epic is Epic!"

What do you like best?

I really liked how I could customize the categories for my lists. This way It would be easier for me to single out small pockets of patients, either based on their room numbers so I could get to them in an orderly fashion, or off of their diet orders.

What do you dislike?

At least with my experience, every time there was an update to epic, their was a slight learning curve to using the software, while the displays changed I never noticed significant improvements that I would write home about, however their were always slight fixes and adjustments that made the ease of use slightly less complicated.

Disliked the down time procedures the most!

Recommendations to others considering the product

Every user needs to customize the categories based on their own needs in order to determine which layout is best tailored to how they plan on using the software.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Personally, now that I have moved to a position that does not directly interact with epic, I realize just how much more sophisticated it is for nurses and doctors as opposed to me using it in my former position as a nutrition representative. The biggest benefit seems to be just how interconnected every patients healthcare information is. For example, vitals and dietary notes can be entered by the techs, and they are instantly updated to nurses, who can order labs or prescribe meds for the patients from there.

"Best we've got, still room to go though on an industry-wide basis"

What do you like best?

Care Everywhere linking outside records is a big plus. The interface is nicer and more user friendly than other EMRs, and the smart phrases, dot phrases, customizability for doctors is nice. The scheduling tools can be useful as well.

What do you dislike?

With these systems there is always the complaint of "too many clicks" and sometimes too many redundant flags to uncheck etc. Physicians still see EPIC as focused more on optimizing billing and reimbursement than actual patient care. There unfortunately is not a better platform so far, which explains EPICs enormous hold on this market.

Recommendations to others considering the product

EMR choice is not easy but I'd say EPIC is the leader right now in terms of functionality. However, keep in mind that sometimes it feels more like a billing software masquerading as patient care than it is an actual EMR for patient care first.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

optimizing EMR for physicians, reducing burnout, fatigue associated with EMR. Streamlining patient care of patients who receive care in multiple systems with multiple EMRs who need consolidation of care.

"Facilitates clinical research "

What do you like best?

The more you use it, the more familiar you become with the software. It's pretty simple to navigate the interface and find any information that you need. I like that I can easily self-audit my research by checking the on/off-study notes. Screening for patients and creating reports is also very convenient and makes the process move more smoothly.

What do you dislike?

I don't have any dislikes. I know that the software doesn't quite work on iPads, which can be difficult if a study relies heavily on the iPad. I use a SurfacePro and it works just fine. I do not like how if you log in/out of too many computers within a specific time frame, it will not let you log in until you call the helpline to get them cleared out.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Very user-friendly, only needs a few improvements. I'd say it's a superior way of managing patient records and entering pertinent information related to clinical visits, research studies, and so forth.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Screening is very quick when using Epic. I am working on three studies right now which depend on timely screening and coordinating with three clinics to enroll patients onto my studies.

"Review of Epic - Painless transition to online medical records"

What do you like best?

EPIC has made the transition to an online medical charting system as painless as it could be. It's ability to include everything in the chart in one place is unparalleled. By clicking on different tabs, you can navigate through the record to see what you need quickly. The search tool is my favorite; I can search for a word or phrase and be taken there, even if it's on a scanned piece of paper.

What do you dislike?

As with anything, EPIC takes some getting used to and you must learn how to navigate the chart. It would be useful for EPIC to have a tutorial that would take a new user thoroughly through the medical record chart. In this way, new users would know where to find information quickly and efficiently, without having to click on everything to learn.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Have someone train you in how to navigate the online chart. It would be most useful if the trainer is in a similar role to you - so they can show you how to access everything that is relevant to your job.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

EPIC has made the transition to an online charting system as painless as it could be. All information in the medical record is now neatly in one place, and multiple caregivers can login and see patient outcomes to be better informed and thus give a better quality of patient care.

"Epic"

What do you like best?

The ability to personalize and create tools to make your work efficient is endless (smart phrases, dot phrases, etc.). There is multiple ways you can add favorites, build things, and make it work for you; however, you have to be saavy enough to do so. A lot of bigger builds require IT help as well, or Epic to change things which the latter will basically never happen.

What do you dislike?

The user interface is absolutely insane. A button that does the same exact thing will be located in different spots, and sometimes called different names on various screens. It is wild that a product could have such little user interface testing. Talk to apple! Sometimes it seems like people built each module in different buildings across the country from each other without ever talking to each other or viewing the various other modules. I also wish Care Everywhere was less like a junk drawer, and that there was more interface with other health records, but that's a much bigger problem. I also wish there was more ability to build reports by the semi-savvy lay user instead of relying on IT.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Patient care/records. Has allowed us to meet meaningful use.

"Epic is the do all of medical information systems"

What do you like best?

There are multiple ways to create shortcuts which save a significant amount of time. Notes can be pulled forward from previous notes with automatic updates providing the most recent vital signs and lab results.

What do you dislike?

Sometimes you spend a lot of time trying to discover the "quick way" to do something and there isn't always a quick way to pull in that information.

Also the software sometimes. crashes. When it crashes, there is no guarantee how long it will take. This results in a requirement to perform all of the work by hand on paper. There is no easy way to scan into the system what has been done on paper for orders or other things and therefore after down time it takes a significant amount of time to re-input everything that was previously already accomplished. That aspect can be very irritating.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Give it a try. Smart phrases are fantastic. Really be sure to put in the time at the start to create templates and links that will pull in information and you will have more well rounded info with little effort.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Epic is an amazing medical record software. It is user friendly and syncs information and data across so many platforms. I have used Meditech in the past and seen other very simple programs and Epic by far beats out anyone! It's great.

What do you like best?

I enjoy the many options that epic allows. It also has many different user options allowing specific people to only access what is needed. AS a research coordinator it comes in handy for sponsored studies. We can request a limited view of epic for our site managers/sponsor. This allows them to view only the medical information that is needed for the particular subjects. This saves us from having to keep paper copies of all of the records.

What do you dislike?

This may just be an issue with the company that I work for but we are having a difficult time figuring out how to use it for research purposes and visits. It was been an ongoing issue that researchers are unable to enter visits solely associated with research.

What do you dislike?

While I find Epic easy to use (as an analyst), I know some medical professionals have a difficult time adjusting to it. "Epic, easy to use and user friendly "

What do you like best?

I think that this is one of the easiest medical records systems to use. Everything is very clear with layout and buttons and the ability to find help when you need it. There are so many great things like being able to customize your experience and changing things so that the items you use the most pop-up automatically.

What do you dislike?

The only thing I don't like is that sometimes I'm unable to respond directly to In Basket messages that I receive and have to open up a completely new one.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Complete some training classes from people that have used the software for a while. I found that to be really beneficial.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Efficiency and also quickness of using the software. It is very fast to use and work with for patient medical records. Everything is always in one spot and easy to find. I am able to open up the software and enter many different notes for different tasks at the same time.

"Inpatient Acute Care Hospital Use of EPIC"

What do you like best?

1. Access to both inpatient and outpatient records as well as other hospitals in the network

2. Summary screens for antibiotic and anticoagulant use/monitoring

3. Ability to send messages to other inpatient/outpatient providers

4. Ability to keyword search the entire chart

5. Electronic medication administration record

6. Access to records from other EPIC institutions

What do you dislike?

1. When we would like to make changes/optimizations if often requires a significant amount of build time from the IT department. We have seen how other institutions use EPIC but each site configures it differently so it may be difficult to implement something another site is doing

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Gradually building tools in EPIC to help monitor medication use/areas of optimization of care related to pharmacy. EPIC can shorten the amount of time to evaluate a patient by use of reports/summary screens

"Go to for Medical Records"

What do you like best?

I like the ease of the interface and that most of the items are easy to find on the home screen of each patient's chart

What do you dislike?

I don't like how difficult it is to search through information in patient's charts

Recommendations to others considering the product

Likely going to be the standard for patient care -- can't imagine a hospital not using digital medical records.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Ultimately it's nice to have digital medical records, it's a lot easier to find and trend old lab values and see the notes that other doctors have written (if they are on the same medical record system)

"Well-rounded and reliable, enterprise EMR "

What do you like best?

The end-to-end Epic System (access-clinical-revenue cycle) is likely the strongest EMR on the market. While this is no secret to decision-makers it is cost prohibitive and Epic truly dictates the relationship it has with clients.

What do you dislike?

Working with Epic isn't only cost prohibitive, but implementation with Epic services is considerably stressful given the company's changing policies, culture, and aggressive turnover.

Recommendations to others considering the product

While I have been aquatinted with other EMRs, including AllScripts and Cerner, it is worth investing a significant amount of time and establishing a sweeping team of stakeholders to truly evaluate whether or not Epic will meet your organization's needs.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Improving health care from the point of access through the clinical exchange patients have with the provider and down to streamline the revenue cycle. Installing the full system, while costly, has led to notable improvements in large and regional health systems, academics, and pediatrics.

"EMR for a multi hospital system"

What do you like best?

Intraoperability across multiple facilities.

What do you dislike?

The company dictates the training process.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Be cautious about how much customization you want to implement at first. If part of a multi hospital system, agreeing to flowsheet changes can be challenging since they will be shared across all hospitals. Changes are slow to happen. Upgrades seem to happen monthly where there is a downtime impact. Make sure that ALL stakeholders are at the table when making decisions especially important to have bedside nurses as part of the initial planning and continuous.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Tracking of core metrics for hospital reimbursement purposes. Can run customized reports.

"Very good for patient records"

What do you like best?

Its interface is quite easy to use. Much better than the previous one we were using since this is very straightforward and user-friendly.

What do you dislike?

There really is not anything that is so inhibiting to the user. One issue I might suggest to correct is when I try to get a large record of data, it often takes a long time.

Recommendations to others considering the product

The price is a bit expensive, but if you are working for a large health system, it shouldn't be an issue.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We work in a healthcare environment so it is crucial for us to have a software we can use to access patent records. The benefits are straightforward: we get to use it and it is updated often enough to fic little issues we may have.

"Senior Medical Secretary: surgical scheduling, charge entry, patient tracking, appointments, phones,"

What do you like best?

I like EMR's. I think identifiers are key to providing good care. It is also good that so many sources merge together to provide the best possible care. Excellent for surgical scheduling.

What do you dislike?

There are entirely too many clicks to maneuver quickly. Our Epic system is designed primarily for inpatient hospital, emergency rooms and doctor use. As an admin, I found ECW much better for scheduling outpatient appointments. At times, it takes so long to get to the point of scheduling an appointment that the patient will ask if I am still there.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Roll out this product slowly. Not all at once. Specific task work flow requires training to attain the best possible way to work smart. Training is essential.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The bigger picture of the patients health history which will enable providers to provide better care.

"Outpatient Pharmacy System"

What do you like best?

That's a hard one. We have been "live" for 6 months and we are only scratching the surface. By far the most difficult pharmacy system out there.

It's a fantastic concept that a doctor would be able to see a patient profile in it's entirety with what meds a patient is on, and ease of ordering medications.

Perpetual inventory sounded great.

What do you dislike?

We are the first hospital based retail outpatient pharmacy to use this system I'm sure. EPIC has very little knowledge about retail pharmacy. They were overwhelmed with the amount of PBM's and different levels of coverage within those PBM's.

PB, the billing and reconciliation part is a disaster. We were 2+ months before we could post any payments. More problems everyday with fewer and fewer answers.

Bottom line, this system is way too expensive for a business with a razor thin margin to use and stay in business.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Demand to see product live and in use at another location.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Nothing solved only more complex and feel we are the guinea pigs and are teaching EPIC outpatient pharmacy.
