"Excellent use for Community Foundations"

What do you like best?

I like that all operations are easily integrated and that staff can access information from various departments rather seemlessly.

What do you dislike?

If I had to say anything negative, it would be related to functionality. Microedge can become easily bogged down in excessive information, it's a double-edge sword.

Recommendations to others considering the product

A thorough training for new staff will save time over the long run. MicroEdge has a multitude of uses but it can be daunting for a first timer.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We are solving problems related to coordination of reports. Microedge makes it easy for us to run cross-department reports. We have seen benefits related to speed and more efficient allocation of staff time and resources.

"Feels old school, but works for nonprofit use"

What do you like best?

It's easy to learn, and simple to teach others how to use. The "how-to" descriptions are very thorough and well-explained.

What do you dislike?

It's this ancient module with a MS-DOS kind of feeling to it.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Ask questions about the new versions that are coming out, and how it fits with where your organization is going. It's tough to purchase software for today, and tomorrow everything changes.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It allows us to tie together and track all facets of our organization, from donor engagement to financials to end-user reporting.

"FIMS is useful, but clunky."

What do you like best?

It is the industry recognized leader in Foundation management systems so finding other organizations who use it is relatively easy.

What do you dislike?

The upgrades, without fail, cause the program to lose some level of functionality that our organization found useful. It is not particularly user friendly, for instance the Inter-Fund module is clunky and seems like an afterthought.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Discuss with other Foundations how they are using the program and what they like/dislike. It is fine for simple, straightforward grantmaking but becomes difficult to use when you begin to look at interfund or special grantmaking.

FIMS allows us to house our grants, scholarships, donors, and accounting.

"Useful, but could be better"

What do you like best?

The ease of use in terms of searching through the profiles for history.

What do you dislike?

While it isn't difficult to run a report, it is difficult to obtain the information needed. One must go through several steps in order to reach the data. This could be simplified.

"Multi level data management "

What do you like best?

Multiple different areas can be used. Grant, funds, etc with tons of report options

What do you dislike?

Sometimes reports are tricky to run or don't run properly
