"Have been loving using Bluemix and will continue using it."

What do you like best?

IBM Bluemix offers an innovative environment and platform, support many programming languages such as PHP, Python, and Java. IBM Bluemix also provides easy-to-use Support, either email or build-in message platform can reach the Support team.

What do you dislike?

It gives me less control compares to the other products used to work on. Occasionally it took forever to load the pages and it can be quite frustrating.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It is wonderful that IBM offers 256 MB of Cloud Foundry memory, but when we are ready to move on and upgrade it can be pricey. For most start-ups, the pricing for IBM Bluemix can be very high.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Data and Analytics. Apps that can track employees training performance and development. The new projects are created much faster and easier.

"Terrible. The Clown Computing Service for the 20th Century."

What do you like best?

Attempted to utilize the IBM Bluemix Weather service to get pinpoint weather forecasts. The data is accurate and the web API is straightforward to use.

What do you dislike?

Incredibly poor SLA, incompetent customer service and glacially slow response time to multiple issues. Their service routinely return 401/Unauthorized errors, crippling my app at times. They finally acknowledged the issue was on their side the first time it happened - after 20 days.

It occurred again 3 months later, again crippling my service. No response from support until I kept pestering and escalating. No response on root cause after another 18 days. They either don't care, are incompetent, or both.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Run away. The internal management and support portals are a mess. They don't have reliable SLA's for their service and they're trying to find their way ten years too late.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Utilizing the service to provide pinpoint outdoor weather forecasts for the outdoor industry...when the BlueMix service is working. The service is so unreliable and the support is so poor I'm actively looking for alternatives.

What Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) solution do you use?

Thanks for letting us know!

"Testing IBM Cloud without full access to IBM resources."

What do you like best?

Powerfull compute services (until I wasn't able to create more even when I had enough credit).

Clear segmentation of a huge catalog of available apps.

What do you dislike?

Administrative locks blocked our testing efforts.

We were unable to create more than one compute product and unable to administer the first one created.

We had no more help from support, excep "contact our accounting dept". Neve had a written statement of what happened.

Not quite clear that 3rd party services are not included with the $200 initial credit.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It seems that the evaluation indeed requires some degree of purchasing.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Defining cloud services platform for our customers.

"BlueMix has a really good angle on cloud computing"

What do you like best?

Bluemix uses a PaaS (Platform as a Service) model rather than the typical IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) model like Amazon Web Services. The big difference here is that with other IaaS providers, you are configuring the infrastructure with virtual hardware specifications, such as processor type, memory, hard drive, and network connects, where PaaS has you setup the platform that you will run on your software, such as programming environments, Databases used, Clustering, and so forth, meaning that you are ready to develop or operate your software out of the box

What do you dislike?

The reliability is 99% and not 100%, and is heavily geared for developers, which means that I wouldn't use BlueMix as my only production environment. It can also get a little overwhelming, especially when you get into Watson and the Beta services.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you are looking for a solid production environment, then this might not be the best option for you, and also make sure that any devops running off of bluemix takes into account the potential for vendor lock-in if they utilize too many BlueMix services.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I am able to deploy a a ready to use development platform with literally a few clicks, and literally, quicker than writing this review. This saves a lot of money and time, rather than building out a virtual machine, installing an OS, then setting up an environment, and having to track down any errors I get that could be at any level of my server, Bluemix is just ready to go and work for you.

"Has some unique cloud services"

What do you like best?

It has the normal everyday could services one would expect (i.e. virtual machines, mysql, mongodb) but there are some truly unique ones centered around cognitive computing such as Personality Insights or Dialog.

What do you dislike?

Their documentation is good, not GREAT, but what makes things a little confusing is their demo apps. Their demo apps are really all over the place, using java, nodejs, and a bunch of different frameworks. If you are a java developer you'll have to make sense of a nodejs example because there isn't a java one, for example.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you are looking for simple cloud services, consider cheaper alternatives. If you want some unique cognitive computing services, IBM is likely the only one to have them.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

created a prototype around some of the cognitive services.

"They cancel your account without much warning."

What do you like best?

The product is new. Cloud Foundry is a brilliant new solution to new things, IBM of course, doesn't make these things. It just implements them.

What do you dislike?

IBM cancelled my account without telling me why. Their service sucks. It has all the same reasons why people hate IBM. If I can't get good service on my free account, that doesn't bode well for the paid account being better.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Use something else. Bluemix is, at best, unreliable and at worst actively tries to cause downtime. It deactivated my account, without explanation or warning, and took down a good number of apps that we were using with it. This is actively causing harm. It's not bad support, it's actively causing harm.

If you use bluemix, you shouldn't use it for anything you need to ensure works. Unless IBM is basically running it all for you, don't use it.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I use it for non mission critical applications. I do not think the service and support is reliable enough to use it long term.

The frontend also takes forever to load. Heroku is much better, faster and easier.

Also they did not delete my personal account from Heroku, which bluemix did because... I am not entirely certain why.

They also deactivated my business account, even though I was using it for business applications. When I realized that happened, it became clear that this is not a service anyone should use for anything that you need to ensure works.

"Awesome Cloud based Services"

What do you like best?

Its Cloud based.

So many services are provided, all at one place.

But the best part is there is something for everyone.

What do you dislike?

Can be somewhat confusing sometimes if you are new to it.

Since its new getting help can be challenging.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Currently i am just using the tool for learning purposes, but i think it will be widely used in near future primarily because its cloud based.

"Great PaaS based on OpenSource Could Foundering mixed with IBM Stack products"

What do you like best?

IBM Bluemix is based on Cloud Foundry, an open PaaS (platform as a service) to provide customers a choice of clouds. A PaaS model allows developers to focus on writing code since all infrastructure including the application servers are provided. This enables developers to build applications rapidly in local IDEs and push the applications to the cloud. This ease of use however comes at the expense of having less control over the infrastructure which is needed in certain scenarios or environments. IBM created a Marketplace where you can sell your app or make it available for free. Some of the most impressive IBM stack technologies are available for use like Websphere Liberty, DB2, MQ Light, SMS services and so on, you can pick and choose. To some extend the usage is for free. (Up to 2GB RAM for Liberty App Servers etc.)

What do you dislike?

The connection config between some of the containers is better written than for others. Some do generate a complete config set, for some others you need to deep dive into the documentation to understand the connection mechanism.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

This shift of technology will benefit mainly small and medium companies wanting to rapidly start development without investing a lot of money in to hardware, administration and man hours. From and Architecture perspective it's an evolution of SOA. Although I don't see this kind of technology in any Finance/Banking, Insurance or Government sector project. The privacy of the data is more important so a Cloud Solution is just not an option. I also don't see the use of BPM , ESB products to be integrated into cloud solutions because of the privacy constrains of the messages.

"Bluemix is great to test FaaS and big data analytics tools"

What do you like best?

Bluemix uses a PaaS. Among their newer additions of various services, it is great to test their FaaS and some big data analytics tools.

What do you dislike?

The URLs are too bigger. The reliability is towards 99% and not 100%,

Recommendations to others considering the product

Users and developers who needs to test newer things of cloud like FaaS or Big Data tools, certainly can test Bluemix.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

To test free tier of FaaS, analytics tools usually others ask for credit card. Signing up with Bluemix is easy for trial. Also I noticed a lot of tools in their catalogue.

"IBM Cloud Provides Flexibility that can't be matched on premise"

What do you like best?

The variety of products and services available.

What do you dislike?

Pricing is not as competitive as AWS and GCP.

Recommendations to others considering the product

You might have to build some of your own reporting to monitor and audit usage.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The ability to provide elasticity with my applications quickly and efficiently.

"Bluemix Review"

What do you like best?

Based on the open source architecture of Cloud Foundry, Bluemix provides the flexibility to integrate development frameworks, languages and services that suit our needs.

We can develop applications using Web IDE and Eclipse – while storing our code directly on Bluemix.

It supports several programming languages and services[

What do you dislike?

The one thing I dislike about Cloud foundry is that I can’t test an app easily without constantly pushing it to the cloud if it uses a lot of services. I’d love to see a future where I could pull down all of these services in a micro cloud on my laptop and then push to the cloud and bind to scalable services there.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

In practical terms, we are building cloud applications thatl:

Reduce time for application/infrastructure provisioning

Allow for flexible capacity

Help to address any lack of internal tech resources

Reduce Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)

Accelerate exploration of new workloads – social, mobile, big data

"The Platform is very robust"

What do you like best?

The user interface is very impressive and it helps developers to develop applications and deploy without worrying about infrastructure such as servers and Operating systems

What do you dislike?

There is very little support for PHP application, the boilerplate for PHP application is next to nothing, that discourages me as a PHP developer

Recommendations to others considering the product

When you are looking at a platform to develop and deploy your applications on the fly, go for this application

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

"IBM CLoud"

What do you like best?

Anywhere, anytime, we use it for our lotus notes email system which is also an IBM product but in spite of that there has been multiple downtime and that has caused lost productivitiy, both internally and external communications with our key cusotmers / vendors etc.

What do you dislike?

99% uptime.. still not good, if imy business is on the cloud 99% is not good. I would want a 100% especially for emails
