"For my use, it works just fine"

What do you like best?

When I look up orders, it shows everything I need in good detail. I do like the interface, but it does take a while to learn how to navigate through all the different options to find what you need when looking at orders.

What do you dislike?

I'm not sure if this is more the IBM or it is our side, but whenever we need to make modifications, it seems to take a while.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

IBM Order Management is our order management system. It and some other back-end software help sync the order information (like prices, taxes, shipping, promos) to our Epicor software, Our old management system would not did not sync tax, but with IBM, it has decreased our workload due to that issue.

"Product for large business organization which includes complex business logic"

What do you like best?

One product for whole enterprise management includes Inventory,Order management,Catalog Management,Returns everything we can thing of with respect to a business.Well suited for large enterprises who has to deal with complex business logic. Multi store fronts or multiple buyer and seller organization.

I like how it controls very complex logic just by creating one simple rule or by checking or adding some attributes in the existing pipeline.

What do you dislike?

I dislike the fact of Sterling commerce being very heavy product.Installing this requires large memory and maintenance of the product is also difficult.

Comes with a rich client platform which again consume large space and not really very fast responsive.

Sterling commerce is complex solution involves lot of complex rules and installation cycles.

Costing for the product is real high.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I will recommend this product for organization with good budget and very complex business model to follow. You should have a good number of business logic involved in your business process like multiple shipment , order with large number of items of different categories, Product+ service orders,up selling and cross selling etc.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Solving almost all kind of retail business problems like optimization of cost, transportation. Order management life cycle from adding an item to the cart till payment process there are lot many backend business logic that needs to be validated can be performed through sterling product suite.Return management is also another part of the product which can be implemented for an organization.

"Not User Friendly or Intuitive"

What do you like best?

Nothing. It is not intuitive or easy to use. I suppose the only strength is that it automatically logs you out after a period of inactivity.

What do you dislike?

SOM is not user friendly or intuitive to use. It is especially difficult for new users, and there are no effective checks. SOM will allow someone to go through the many steps of placing an order, and will often say it cannot complete an order placed because it does not recognize the city (despite the city being entered correctly), and will not be able to proceed. It also will often not accept codes that are legitimate. Alternatively, it will never pop with with a legitimate check, and never creates any sort of "are you sure you want to do this?" It's exceptionally unfriendly for new users.
