"A good resource for text analytics"

What do you like best?

IBM SPSS Text Analytics for Surveys provides users with the opportunity to review and assess text analytics, which could be done separately by users yet would require more time and thought. This tool can complement your use of the main SPSS product. which predominately handles your quantitative analysis. Overall, the software is user friendly and intuitive.

What do you dislike?

The tool would be useful if it were easier to search for tests run and edit data. The coding can be challenging and cumbersome, depending on the complexity of your survey design, number of open ended questions, and number and length of open ended responses. Initially, this was not something that I considered but became aware of once I used this tool a few times.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

With over 1,300 respondents to a particular survey that had a few open ended items, I was struggling to find an effective and efficient way to distill meaning from the open ended responses. This tool provided me with the opportunity to do this.

"Text Analytics for Survey Project"

What do you like best?

Ability to concept models with the different resource templates. It is fairly easy to see the different concepts, but the extracted type lists aren't always as clear. Ability to filter words in the resource templates provides opportunity to try different analyses of the same set of surveys/text.

What do you dislike?

Concept outputs can be a little confusing and vague. I like having the ability to compare outputs from different templates to determine which is the best fit. Also, it is interesting to compare the underlying terms for each template.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Practice manipulating the resource templates for different terms/variables. Also, practice creating categories. Text link analysis also provides good insight into the text data.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Trying to analyze student surveys. Also attempting to analyze and decipher student emails that are received in the Customer Service inbox.

What Natural Language Processing (NLP) solution do you use?

"Excellent analytic tool for analyzing survey results "

What do you like best?

IBM SPSS text analytics enables users to evaluate survey results in a way other survey providers do not. Although the ability to administer surveys is a common tool of different services, SPSS, which is a well known and user friendly analytics software, empowers analysis, enabling users to gain a deeper understanding of surveys they administer. Great customer service as well.

What do you dislike?

Utilizing the analytical software using statistical programming may be more difficult for those unfamiliar with SPSS or similar statistical software/language.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Although there is a learning curve, the software may enable companies to better understand how their customers perceive their products and services.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

This software has helped our organization quantify customers opinions and sentiment about out products, services, and support.

"Helpful Assistive Tool"

What do you like best?

The software is fairly easy to use if not entirely intuitive. Great for helping code open-ends into more than one category. You'd get the most use out of it for creating a coding structure that you will use multiple times.

What do you dislike?

The user-interface leaves something to be desired. Helping with coding, but doesn't really save time and definitely isn't an automated process.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It's a helpful tool, but I only end up using it rarely since it's not automated and I just about never have to use the same coding structure twice. I get the most use out of it when I am coding open-ends into multiple categories. It's a cool function that you can easily pass your coding back into your SPSS dataset.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I use this for when I have open-ends that will likely fall in more than one category (multiple response) as opposed to a single coding. It doesn't really save time, but is helpful for creating buckets for those bigger jobs.

"Promising, 10 years ago"

What do you like best?

That output can be used with IBM SPSS. Industry dictionaries seems nice in theory.

What do you dislike?

Like a lot of older text analytics software, not very transparent, very rules based, difficult to undertstand, difficult to make changes to, leaves you frustrated. Also, support is very bad.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Look for another solution even if it means paying more. The tie in to SPSS is of relatively little value.

Ease of creating surveys and publishing them.Drop down menu GUI is fairly easy to understand and use for a new user too, These features create a good experience
