Free HTML Editor—You Get What You Pay For

What do you like best?

KompoZer is a no-frills, fairly powerful HTML editor, and it's 100% free/open-source. The interface is reminiscent of Dreamweaver, and it's a decent quick substitute if you're unable or unwilling to pay for an Adobe license.

What do you dislike?

If you're used to the features of a commercial editor, you're going to sorely miss them when you work in KompoZer. Most of the core features you're looking for are going to be there, but KompoZer is still very much rough around the edges.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Weigh the benefits of going free/open-source against the long-term benefits of working in a closed, but supported environment. Personally, I found it more valuable to continue using Dreamweaver—but everyone has different needs.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I've used KompoZer in a pinch to work on simple website edits and email campaign files.

Kompozer gets the job done.

What do you like best?

What I liked best about Kompozer was the ease of use. It has a WYSIWYG based editor for laying out websites, so everything was pretty much drag and drop. It also had a built in code editor that you could use to change any elements of your website using HTML, CSS, or any other web based language you needed to.

What do you dislike?

It wasn't a terrible program, but it did have some issues. The html that was generated by it was very bloated, and could sometimes be a pain to get through. However, that's also the inherent nature of any WYSIWYG based web authoring software.

Kompozer is an open source program, which means it's free, but that also means that support may be inconsistent and there may be some discrepancies. It had a tendency to be somewhat unstable at times, so make sure you save often. Finally, the interface was definitely functional, but it wasn't particularly pleasing to the eye. That being said, the aesthetics never detracted from the experience.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It's free, so give it a chance. Kompozer is a really powerful program that can help you out, but there is a slight learning curve like with most new programs you will use. Plan for hiccups in work flow, and don't forget to save often. I would recommend this product as a good tool to have in the startup designer's kit.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

My main problem to solve was that I needed web authoring software and couldn't afford the Adobe Creative Suite at the time. I was able to accomplish every task that was needed, and with software that allowed my small start-up to use that wasn't bootlegged and served its purpose very well.

KompoZer | A tool for designing websites

What do you like best?

It's open source, meaning you don't have to pay anything to use it and also you can modify it according to your own personal needs.

What do you dislike?

It doesn't have much features or isn't feature-rich like other IDEs available in the market which are commercial. If you are looking for only simple websites, then Kompozer is for you!

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Using Kompozer for simple website edits and small website development purpose which doesn't have much commercial content.

Using KompoZer for Webpage editing

What do you like best?

It is free and can be used in the classroom. The software is distribution in a zip format, which can be unzipped and use directly in Windows. There is no need to worry about the administrative permission on a public computer used for editing pages.

What do you dislike?

Compared to other modern Webpage editors, the KompoZer is relatively simple and lack of professional touch. Sometimes the software is not reliable, making one of the editing page frozen or not editable. A workaround tip is to close this weird page and reopen it. It works all the time.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you can't afford the cost of licensing and need an editor to make some simple changes, this is the right product for you. Although it's not fancy, it does what it supposed to do.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Use KompoZer to edit personal pages and use it to lead someone who would like to learn basic Web Design. The best part of it is FREE.

If you have advanced HTML (ex: made by Mailchimp, Flexmail...) they might not well interpreted and it will be very hard to use the visual éditor... and so you have to use the HTML editor (lile in notepad !!)
