Poor Man's Microsoft. That's a Good Thing

What do you like best?

Affordability, first and foremost. Additionally, much like Google Docs, you retain MS Office-like integrity, and you have a file at the end of the day that can be saved into a Windows Explorer folder without any comparative fuss or muss.

What do you dislike?

The LibreOffice version of PowerPoint is a bit less unwieldy. You feel like you're jumping through a few loopholes to do comparatively basic things. Moreover, your fonts and formats are going to get royally screwed up if you do open a document in Microsoft, or vice versa.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you like saving things in traditional Windows folders but aren't wanting to shell out for MS Office, this is the best alternative in the market. Google's document options are an equally sound, useful set of tools in comparison, but the requirement that you switch your document saving infrastructure completely to Google Drive in order to maximise the effectiveness and preservation of the integrity of those documents will require an internal sea change. It may be worth it for the more agile organisations looking to collaborate with clients in an effective manner; it may alienate them as well. To avoid that, LibreOffice is the undoubtedly the best way for businesses on the go to go forward. Best of all: free download. You read that right - free.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Work with opensource clients in an opensource manner. We've managed to meet client expectations without compromising on our expectations or work quality.

a good open source MS office alternative

What do you like best?

A very good alternative to expensive Microsoft office packages. Shares most of the good points to the parent software "open office" that is more familiar. Runs very well on older machines compared to new MS office - which can be a boon to non-profits / small-business that often run older machines.

There is now a Impress (powerpoint) remote for phone app available - which is nice. However it only runs well if your wifi is good.

I like that it has both a x32 & x64 bit versions available. This allows it to run the best with which hardware it is implemented on.

What do you dislike?

Like many open source alternatives, web searching will be your technical support (if needed). Now, to be fair, very rarely is there a need for technical support - it's word processing, spreadsheets, etc.

It might sound a little silly, but it's a large file for installation - (smaller than MS office though) so be aware if you're over a slow connection.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Be ready to spend a bit more time researching problems (if you have any). The only thing I ever had to look up was macros in the spreadsheets. So if you're just looking for word processing you will likely be golden.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We needed a solution to update 20 computers at a non-profit running Microsoft office '97. Individual licences would have been very expensive. Group license was also very high (for a non-profit). This fit the bill wonderfully for the use we needed it for.

Gets the job done

What do you like best?

I like the price, I like the full package and that it opens multiple file types. I haven't had any problem with bugs either, which I would expect from a free software package. The document editor is particularly good. It is very nice to be able to access my old files from when I had Microsoft products.

What do you dislike?

When I try to do things that are a little fancier I run into trouble -- formatting tables (which I'm very particular about), formatting presentations -- the presentation mode is probably my least favorite, I'm considering going back to google for that now. It is not very intuitive.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Takes a little getting used to, but is an excellent product

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I use it mostly in a classroom setting -- creating presentations and assignments. I do not have access to MIcrosoft Office and wasn't willing to pay for it, and it is very nice when people send me files to be able to open and edit with no problems.

Free alternative office package with great power

What do you like best?

The fact that Librecalc can handle data files with literally millions of datasets very good. It stays stable and runs smoothly even with many operations with the data. Other programs like this are using way more CPU power and are often crashing when working with such huge databases.

What do you dislike?

As we all know, there are other office packages that do nearly the same. The compatibility when switching the file format could there for a little bit better.

Recommendations to others considering the product

A good alternative for all people who are looking for a solid office package with multiple programs for the daily office work. The whole package is freeware, you can’t do anything wrong if you make a test run with it.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Like slightly mentioned above I use the program to work with our statistics and company data. This is extraordinarily working well. The benefits clearly are the quickness when calculating formulas and that I experienced not a single crash. And of course, that the whole software package is completely free forever.

Software de oficina para salir de apuro

What do you like best?

What do you dislike?

Recommendations to others considering the product

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Necesitaba un software de oficina libre, y este tenia todas las formulas que necesito en la aplicación de hojas de calculo.
