"Manage your photos easily!"

What do you like best?

I love how easy they make it to search your photos. This helps tremendously with organization and for people that have a large amount of photos. One thing that most other photo applications do not have is not only the ability to share photos, but to password protect them if you choose to do so. I have never felt more in control of all of my photos!

What do you dislike?

I do wish that it had the ability to integrate seamlessly with other applications and also with browsers like Chrome. I'd love to see integration with Gmail and Chrome.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I am able to keep track of everything in once place, instead of over a dozen different applicatons!

"Great Photo Management Product!"

What do you like best?

Lychee is a free photo-management tool, which runs on your server or web-space. That's usually the best option, as hosting your images in a remote service leaves you at the expense of the owner of that service. Lychee fills that gap in the market beautifully, using a snappy and beautiful interface and very little resources. I find really interesting the concept of "smart albums", that organize your pictures in special albums (apart from your regular albums) depending on specific criteria, like the amount the stars received.

There's another really good thing about Lychee, and that's how easy it is to install it. It uses PHP, so you don't need a high-end server to run it, so that's great.

What do you dislike?

Lychee's elegancy and simplicity is also its weaker point. It lacks a user management system, it would be great to be able to share albums with other people. Also, the development process and release cycles seem a little bit slow.

Recommendations to others considering the product

You need some technical knowledge to install Lychee but you can get the needed assistance from support.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

A major benefit that I have realized is that I am able to keep track of everything in once place, instead of over a dozen different applications. Before, my business was having issues keeping everything organized. We had files in so many different places. Lychee has streamlined everything.

"A perfect and beautiful online photo browser that could be self hosted"

What do you like best?

I installed Lychee on my Raspberry Pi (old model B) and the result is amazing !

The install was really easy with Nginx and performances excellent. You can then create your own server or host to not share your picture with already existing Cloud companies.

Another good point is the design and UX of the interface. It's all in simplicity but with a modern dark theme.

Last point, the plugin system that can help you to have additional functionalities. One that i use is the plugin that help to synchronise your pictures from an external host (in my case Dropbox). I take a picture from my phone that is synchronized on Dropbox and then my self hosted Lychee get it automatically.

What do you dislike?

To improve performances to next level, the lazy loading of albums should be implemented

Also a theming interface could be great but only if performances are not impacted !

Recommendations to others considering the product

You need some technical knowledge to install Lychee but you can get help from support and the Git repository

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

"A nice alternative to manage your pictures online"

It lacks (as far as I know) a user management system, it would be great to be able to share albums with other people. Also, the development process and release cycles seem a little bit slow. According to the official github, the next release is to be expected soon enough, the last being from January 2016.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Those interested in Lychee will surely find interesting another piece of software that is as elegant and more feature-filled. It's called "koken", and you can find it at http://koken.me/. The good thing about Koken is that it does not only manage the pictures you upload, but you can also create posts and pages, an entire website in fact, featuring different themes, a plugin framework and integration with Lightroom.

"User Friendly, easy to navigate"

What do you like best?

Lychee is fairly easy to use. Uploading images and sharing images had never been easier! The self housing platform is the cherry on top!

What do you dislike?

Learning how to install and what all of the technical terms that the software uses is a bit tedious but those are the only downfalls.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The program mages all of you photos way to see and organize in one spot. Makes navigating through photos much simpler.

"Very good photo management tool with great speed"

What do you like best?

The performance of the photoviewing. Even though its a browser based tool, showing images is near native speed, as long as you have a good connection to the server its hosted on.

Furthermore I like that the interface has a dark tone, this is both great for not burning your eyes out, as well as bringing attention to the images, which is most likely what you want.

Its also extremely simple to install, and has very few dependencies, none of which can't be installed through the ordinary package repos.

What do you dislike?

The sharability. Currently this application is a strictly single-user tool, with some options to share photos, but no options for guest accounts.

Also there is no support at all for videos, which I can agree is maybe not required for a professional photographer, but for hobby photographers it would be nice to support video too. Fortunately I'm a programmer so I've implemented this feature.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Keep an eye on the issues on github, Tobias has mentioned there is a roadmap, but there is nothing in print, which means that he can change it anytime he feels like it.

"Great software and easy workflow"

What do you like best?

Simple to use, open source digital asset management application. I enjoy being able to set it and forget it OR go into the code and tinker with the logic of the application.

What do you dislike?

The only bad thing as of right now is that there is not remote image storage support or multi-user support which would make it a perfect platform.

"An easy to use opensource photo management tool"

What do you like best?

Its easy to setup and you can easily make modifications. The code base is not complex and you are only limited by your creativity.

What do you dislike?

There should be lazy loading of pictures. Sometimes the browser freezes when you try to load or upload lots of photos.
