"Be pro with MapInfo Pro"

What do you like best?

It is good to work as the interface is user friendly and it can be integrated with infoworks ICM so that it helps a lot when we are running out of infoworks icm license. The best is the user friendly interface of the MicroDrainage and its ability to integrate with the CAD software's helping the designers to design with their own standards. one of the best is the automatically size drainage networks as well as designing of the stormwater and foul water systems graphically. It is the best software which i like the most.

What do you dislike?

There is nothing in the software to be dislike but if it takes time to load big files but we can wait resolve it. its not big issue. The software is good one.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The easy import of CAD and GIS data which will reduce the time of the project. When we are in short of Infoworks ICM license we can use the MicroDrainage to understand how much volume of water is required for a pond with this much incoming water from a particular return period rain and apply that volume and level to our solutions instead of waiting for the license. The friendly user interface which will even help the beginners to work with an ease without feeling this is something new. MapInfo is the best software.

"One stop solution for spatial analysis and mapping"

What do you like best?

I like MapInfo's unique format of saving all vector type data in a single file, which comes handy while working on typical water resource projects.

The raster analysis capabilities within the Vertical Mapper is very powerful and quite useful for projects involving flood mapping.

Also, I liked the Universal Translator which quickly converts the data into required format.

What do you dislike?

As an user of legacy MapInfo versions, it takes a while in the new ribbon based GUI to find the required tool/option. Suggest to add a "Search" button which would save a lot of time.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It's a very good tool for anyone working on water resource projects.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I've been using MapInfo in flood risk assessment studies for creating model files, analyzing the results and to create maps.

Using MapInfo, it has saved lot of time and budget in the projects as it is quick for editing files and is able to handle big files of multiple formats.

What GIS solution do you use?

Thanks for letting us know!

"Powerful GIS application which will make your life easy"

What do you like best?

The faster speed of the application for heavy files which take much more time in some other GIS application such as QGIS or ArcGIS makes MapInfo Pro clear choice of users. Some of newly introduced tools and commands are also very helpful. The conversion from MapInfo Pro files to other GIS application files is good but need little bit improvement.

What do you dislike?

The zooming in of some GIS files to maximum level creates some problems and which makes very difficult to work on that GIS file. The data interpolation and analysis needs improvement. For example the kind of commands and tools are there in ArcGIS if can be implemented in MapInfo Pro then it will be an advantage. Similarly, QGIS also have some very great functionalities and tools which should be adopted by MapInfo Pro.

Recommendations to others considering the product

MapInfo is a powerful GIS software for anyone who is working with GIS datasets and do a lot of analysis. I recommend it to everyone from the GIS domain also to people who are working in GIS intelligence domain which is a very emerging field.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I am part of Flood modelling team and we works extensively on GIS data and layers. Our daily day-to-day tasks that are required for Flood modelling are done using MapInfo Pro right from data creation, analysis, mapping, etc. Without MapInfo pro, it will become very difficult. So while doing various tasks related to modelling such as data creation to final results viewing are done using MapInfo.

"Model Build made easy"

What do you like best?

Building model in this makes the rework less. Very interactive platform. The mapping is very good and accepted by clients. The clarity of maps is very good. Supports the TUFLOW model build very well. The universal translator tool is like a blessing. The autocad files and others can be translated very easily. The workspace looks very interactive and colourful. The options of digitizing is best. The cosmetic layer helps as this forms a scratch layer to base other model build layers. Supports multiple format files. The vector functionality is also good. Recently I used the combine option to create a rf polygon layer which will be difficult in other GIS software platforms.

What do you dislike?

It hangs sometimes while loading large files. But this can be managed. there should have been multiple undo option this would have made editing more easier.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Go for it. It is very handy and robust and very user friendly. Model builds are quicker. The snap and auto trace are very easy to use

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I am building flood alleviation models in this. The multiple features like the points line and the polygon in a single layer makes the task easy of creation of layers. This is very useful while reviewing the layers. The rater analysis is also very handy. This makes the work very easy. The client require the format in mif and mapinfo forms a normal ground to submit these layers.

"Attention hydraulic modellers be pro with MapInfo !"

What do you like best?

The best I like about is its integration with the Infoworks ICM which helps us to optimize the need of costly Infoworks ICM licenses, the tools which are really useful for example The Universal Translator. The adaptability of MapInfo towards the mbx files which can help us to run our own tool is great.

What do you dislike?

The worst thing is the undo button. you can only go back just one step back. another thing which I felt is that while copying a table only the data in the order is copied but the fields of that won’t be copied so it’s difficult when you have a large number of fields to play with.

Recommendations to others considering the product

MapInfo is having one of the good interface which can be understood by a person who has a basic knowledge of GIS such adaptability of MapInfo such that it can be utilized perfectly from a starter to a pro is what make MapInfo superior from others. Yes if you are looking for a good GIS software then there is no need to think twice MapInfo is what you required dear fellows!!! .

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The Basic problem we were facing was the less license issue for the Infoworks ICM which got sorted out by MapInfo as its integration with the ICM is perfect. so we were able save time and utilize more time rather than waiting. Thanks MapInfo for such a good interface adaptability towards Infoworks.

"Good, user friendly and organized. All solution in a box"

What do you like best?

I liked the tools available with mapinfo pro and the layer control toolbar. Sql select is a very good option. Conversion tool is also very useful. I can view the total layer information in one window. Map cad is also very useful tools.

What do you dislike?

Layout are too slow to work. Need improvement as too slow to work when multiple layer is open. Bing map quality is not good. High resolution map required. There is no option to set the view of layer depending on zoom. This is going to be useful for multiple layer. There is no 3d feature available. taking printout is not user friendly. The

Recommendations to others considering the product

Best software for GIS in a box. Mapinfo pro is a software where you don't need any server. All data can be processed locally. Map Cad tool can used to draw precise vector. Sql select is a very good tool to query your data in a simple term. There are many inbuilt tool to work like converting data from one format to another format.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Processing of geocoded data is now easier and faster. Earlier we use to work on excel and process the data individually. Now coordinate can be processed once in a shot. We use mapinfo to calculate nearest distance. Use it to get point data within a circle. We calculate rout distance of one area in one shot, earlier we used to log the distance one by one and then calculate the total.

"excellent geographic information system. intuitive, stable and easy to use"

What do you like best?

It is simple to use and very intuitive, the search system by layers and names is great and comfortable to use, it allows you to modify the polygons quickly and easily, it is perfectly compatible with databases in Excel, it has a great variety of tools for perform studies of spatial analysis, the module to import layers is very stable and makes the transformation perfect

What do you dislike?

the module for georeferencing is uncomfortable to use, it is necessary to change and improve this module in future versions. it is necessary to improve the layout module, that is, to incorporate graphic tools that improve the aesthetics of the final map before printing. Another important element to improve is the font of the toponyms, it would be great if these were adjusted automatically according to the selected print scale

Recommendations to others considering the product

is an excellent geographic information system, stable and compatible with the main databases, it is easy to use and learn, it is one of the essential software for all professionals in the geography field

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I have used this system of geographic information in its different versions for 8 years to make thematic maps of population distribution, maps for studies of electoral behavior and the results have been excellent

"A good software for model building"

What do you like best?

1. Universal Translator; very robust.

2. All the features in a single layer. This is just awesome.

3. Interface is good.

What do you dislike?

1. No save button for the workspace. You have to replace the file everytime which is bit annoying sometimes.

2. Lack of keyboard shortcut keys for various tools.

3. Lack of projections. There are few projections in Gulf which are missing.

4. Copying and pasting from one file to another takes too much time when the features are more.

5. Region Inspection in Grid Manager doesn't give the correct values. I used it for extracting average elevations from the raster for the buildings.

6. You cannot build your own symbology.

7. Geo-referencing interface is not user-friendly.

8. While importing rasters in newer versions i.e. 15.2.4, you have to tick everytime for each and every raster to give the projection.

9. Direct button should be present in the layer to save as a new layer rather than searching for the layer in Save Table.

10. Topology cleaning tool should be present, if dealing with complex features.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

"Go Pro with MapInfo Pro"

What do you like best?

It is very handy and user friendly. We can visualise TIN and DTM in a better way in MapInfo. We can easily digitize, modify the vector layers in MapInfo. Rasters can be visualized in a very good way here. It is better in many ways like copying the data from one layer to other layer. We can also simply change the classes of raster data for our ease. It is easy and can be learnt very quickly.

What do you dislike?

I feel like, the newer version is bit slow. The earlier versions were faster but 15.2 is slower than others. All other features are good to go. Rasters can be visualized in a very good way here. It is better in many ways like copying the data from one layer to other layer. We can also simply change the classes of raster data for our ease. It is easy and can be learnt very quickly.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Mapinfo is very easy and handy software.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I have been using MapInfo for my projects mainly including Flood Replacement Areas, Coastal risk management and river flood modelling. MapInfo gives a better platform to edit and view gis layers.Rasters can be visualized in a very good way here. It is better in many ways like copying the data from one layer to other layer. "Good platform for hydraulic model build; however latest version is not user friendly"

What do you like best?

Ability to handle and edit large sets of data without the fear of data getting corrupt

MI tools to support TUFLOW model build

The platform is relatively stable and does not crash very often as opposed to other GIS platforms

Ability to handle lines, regions and points within a single file; thereby saving time and space

What do you dislike?

Latest version 16.0 is not user friendly especially editing and digitisation. The user needs to click atleast 2-3 buttons just for reshaping of nodes.

Because of multiple file types supported within a single file (Lines, polygon and point), snapping to the right type becomes an issue especially for TUFLOW GIS files.

MIF format not compatible with other platforms

Recommendations to others considering the product

For raster images, the ability to work with ASC format should be added in Vertical Mapper. Everytime, the asc is imported to grd format and then has to be exported to txt format to supply client with ASC outputs. Considering the UK water industry, the softwares proves to be a pain at times.

Digitisation and editing options should be straightforward.

Ability to view only selected data within the 'browse Table' should be included

Different types of files (line, polygon and point) within a single layer file should have different colour for nodes so that TUFLOW users can snap to the right node

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Flood Risk Alleviation Schemes, Flood Risk Mapping, For legacy models, MapInfo Pro for MIF format files are the first choice

"MapInfo - GIS tool for UK water business"

What do you like best?

Ease of mapping, datastore for all asset data and excellent symbology options to create the best maps. I have been using MapInfo instead of ArcGIS and is very easy to create flooding maps for UK water company. The excellent user interface has made MapInfo most used mapping. This offers wide range of tools and templates creating option which makes work easier. The transportable files and size is much lesser than other GIS tools.

What do you dislike?

handling of heavy files (files more than 1GB) is not possible and crashes few times. Recent changes in pro version of categorizing the tools into sub sections makes it difficult to get started in the beginning. The standard layout of MapInfo should have been retained.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Create Flood mapping, survey plans, Handling asset data and creating inventory. The best tool for all UK water business needs, can create excellent maps for flooding, growth needs, catchment representation etc. have also used MapInfo for training purposes. This helped me to teach graduates and also senior engineers who were reluctant to use MapInof when compared to ArcGIS. This is definitely the best alternative for expensive GIS softwares. MapInfo is undoubtedly the best GIS software to use for all mapping needs and this is why is widely used by all UK Water companies.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Flood mapping, survey plans, Handling asset data and creating inventory. Data analyis of huge data is made easy and helps to resolve the duplicate data removal. Wide range of attributes and compuattions can be done

"MapInfo - GIS needs of UK Water"

What do you like best?

The interface is user friendly. Tools are easily accessible

The symbols are well defined which are globally recognized.

When the map has been created clarity is very good in all zoom level. Geo-coding is good.

Universal translater helps in converting the different file type to mapinfo tabs and vise versa which is one of the best part as we can convert any file we recive to tab files and work on MapInfo.

Creating point from CSV helps in visulising the data what we have. Editing the data is easy. Help file in MapInfo helps to understand all the tolls uses which are in MapInfo. Stepwise description is provide in help tool.

What do you dislike?

When creating workspace the mapinfo gets slow or hanged and then crashes because of which we lose all the data that has not been saved. When too many tables are opened the mapinfo become bit slow.

Recommendations to others considering the product

MapInfo is user friendly compared to QGIS and ARC GIS. All the work that a Arc GIs can do can be done in MapInfo to some extend the Auto CAD work can also be replaced by using MapInfo for simple plans like Location plan or any 1D plans that can be created using it.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Working for Manhole and Ancilaary survey plans, Solution plans and extracting GIS data from clients database. Creating some manhole from X Y coordinate data which are in CSV format. Some calculation using the SQL queries. Creating thematic plans as and when required to represent some data.

"If you're into hydraulic modelling, this is your GIS software."

What do you like best?

Mapinfo has many features which help me in creating the best GIS data for my updates to hydraulic model. Most of the times, I use the spatial and Table tools for majority of my work. In Spatial, mostly erase, disaggregate, combine, polyline to polygon, buffer for various tasks throughout the project lifecycle. Also we create Layout plans for survey scoping (flow survey, manhole survey) and using raster data we create accurate maps. Many tools are also present which make life better and you can also create your own tool because of mapbasic integration. Overall satisfied with project.

What do you dislike?

Since the new Mapinfo layout, the Table sorting has slowed down a bit. Can make an improvement there. Also, when zooming in and out, sometimes if you're in middle of editing or drawing new objects, it visually creates some problems, but gets sorted after you zoom in and out. So thats one. Overall I would say they have made pretty good with new update. So cheers for that.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Ease of use, customisation of ribbon/toolbar, strong SQL and MApbasic for Automation.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Updating GIS files from using data from each other, like populaton updates, trade updates, sewer analysis, survey scoping etc. Most useful when we want interlayer data extraction. Also buffer is useful in many situations like whenever I have to rule out set of assets from survey for say being near watercourse or railway tracks, that is very useful there. Also if you use Mapinfo with some of the tools (eg. Stylist), you can easily manipulate data however way you want.

"It's okay, but I feel it's lacking"

What do you like best?

I like that it's something familiar and works with our exisiting structure.

What do you dislike?

I feel that it's lacking in it's ability to do more complex things like web GIS and mobile application development. I understand that there's spatial ware, but it would be nice if it was like ArcGIS where it's all the same software.

I also don't like MapBasic. As someone who works in Private industry, it severely limits my ability to build skills relevant to other companies. Why not utilize Python which is widely applied through multiple industries and skills sets.

I don't like that MapInfo is not nearly as widely used in the United States as Arc, it severely limits me in my professional development. It's even hard to find any kind of mentors out there because it's used by such a small amount of people...

Recommendations to others considering the product

Get Arc. It's worth it, MapInfo is barely scraping by and is playing catchup. It may look slightly less expensive then Arc on the surface, but it's cost is more in annoyance and a severe lack of ability to really do much compared to how comprehensive ESRI's offerings are.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

In all honestly, there is nothing that MapInfo solves that can't be solved at the same cost and more efficently then other GIS softwares. Our department is already talking about switching within the next 5 years to ESRI because in all honesty we find MapInfo to be a rather limited software.

We use MapInfo the same way we have been using it for over a decade, except we have to use other softwares to compensate for MapInfo's lack of ability. We use QGIS quite a bit as well as a desktop version of ArcGIS 10.2 to handle certain analysis and conversions not supported by MapInfo.

"Maps are good too"

What do you like best?

This package is very good and can create tables from data, data from tables, reports, maps with all kinds of data on them - however I just use it for quite simple maps. It finds addresses in a flash from text or postcode and I can populate the map with our specific data and produce block plans and location plans for information reports easily.

What do you dislike?

There's a quirk when in the layout tab the placing a shape in the map, I struggle to get out of the shape command.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The clean lines to the OS maps show the property lines are of great benefit when creating a location map for the insurers or solicitors.

"I produce thematic maps for OMP-GIS using MapInfo Pro for decision making in the plantations. "

What do you like best?

I like its UI which is more like MS office. Easy to manoeuvre around.

What do you dislike?

Not that I think of any. I pretty much like my experience with the software. However I still have a lot to learn and uncover with the MapInfo Pro.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Like any other software, the upgrades to mapinfo today will help you accomplish most likely any GIS related task that uncovers the impossibilities and gives you end result you deserve. MapInfo has built-ins as well. for example our OMP-GIS uses MapInfo as the primary host. It's fantastic I would say. Even more interesting its user interface has been transformed and is more or less similar to Ms Office.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Here's a few issues we had to address with the product [Pest & Diseases, Crop Yield & Production, Soil and Leaf Samples, (Nutrient Deficiency), rainfall, LULC and even the Terrain Analysis].

The company benefited through the Company Certified RSPO audit program done annually because we have evidence to prove we are complying with their P&C in the OMP GIS Database. The host (Mapinfo Pro) has been a Decision support tool for managers and agronomists in the industry.

"Good Experience with MapInfo"

What do you like best?

MapInfo is user friendly, easy to work with. The best part is visualization of terrain and results. It has good interface and its files are easily accessible and can be opened in other software. It has good conversion tools and processing tools which comes handy when we have to make edits to given data or change format of the data.

What do you dislike?

I have worked in TUFLOW where MapInfo is used for digitizing, the thing I don't like is MapInfo is .tab format cannot be used directly in TUFLOW and every time there is change in .tab format, it needs to be exported to .mif format before running.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Being a flood modeller, MapInfo is used for digitizing river reach and layers for the model built. It is also used for visualizing results, conversion of raster file formats, processing vector file format, etc.

"20+ year love/hate relationship"

What do you like best?

The software is easier to use than most other GIS software, lower priced, great tech support and the developers and management are very accessible and open to feedback.

What do you dislike?

When you use the software as heavily as I do, you find any faults or shortcomings. Sometimes these do not get fixed as rapidly as I would like, because the majority of casual users do not report on the same problems.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

In the insurance industry there are many geography-based codes that must be assigned (wind speeds for building codes, tax districts, fire districts, rating territories, flood zones, etc). Also developing where lines should be drawn for grouping similar exposures for ratemaking or determining where sales offices should go for optimal growth and minimal cannibalization. All this ensures greater data quality and effective use of resources and capital.

"Flood modelling "

What do you like best?

Raster analysis is pretty good and easy using the MapInfo. Converting the raster format to shape files (i.e using the MapInfo to convert flood Rasters to shape files) is very easy compared to other platforms like QGIS. Also, merging the Rasters with different resolutions is very nice using MapInfo.

What do you dislike?

Two different formats when working with the MapInfo i.e tab and mif. Vector processing is somewhat tedious when compared to QGIS vector processing. Projection difference when mif file is converted into shapefile and tried to use in QGIS. there was issue in projection of the same layer while editing.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Recommended to use Mapinfo Pro while processing Rasters.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

As stated earlier, I used Mapinfo Pro to process the results of flood rasters and convert these into shapefiles. Processing is very reliable and smooth.

"MapInfo Pro Review"

What do you like best?

The best thing about MapInfo Pro is that you can create maps that work completely offline and distribute them through the free MapInfo Proviewer software. The cost is a lot lower than other GIS software.

What do you dislike?

I dislike that the editing options and cartographic options are not as customizable as in other desktop GIS software such as ArcGIS Pro. Offline basemap options are severely limited and you have to pay extra for a lot of services that come free with other software. While the cost is a lot lower than other software, I think it's only worth it if you need low-cost offline maps. It is unclear whether the free viewer will still be supported in the future as well. I have heard mixed stories from their associates and companies representing them.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Only use this if you need cheap maps that work offline on a PC.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We use MapInfo Pro because it works offline and there is a free viewer. There is a lot of cost savings in areas where there is no Internet access.

Bing roads and images are awesome and help us make quick desisions and turn around quality work faster then before we had them. Updated and more advanced tools are really nice. "Used a Few Versions Up Till 12.5 and Moved On"

What do you like best?

Wide range of GIS capabilities. Good for one off modeling.

What do you dislike?

I've used multiple versions of this software extensively at my current job, up till version 12.5. Haven't purchased a newer version, since we use mostly in house software now. Biggest problem is it's very slow at rendering maps and aggregating data. The method it uses for proportion sums, for instance, appears to rerun the proportion calculation even when running the same proportion across multiple data columns.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you're interested in MapInfo Pro, do a trial and see if the latest version is improved. We pretty much gave up on them after 12.5. It seemed Pitney Bowes bought them and forgot about them, although I can't speak to version 16.

What do you dislike?

still not a huge fan of the ribbon interface. I feel like finding commands I want is still not intuitive, even with customizing my menus and shortcuts, I feel like I have to click more to do some simple tasks

Recommendations to others considering the product

Ease of use, great looking maps, very functional.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

solving location questions using heat maps that I create. I use MapInfo for dozens of different tasks for people in many branches of my company. I have realized that if you can map it, you can solve it.

"Mapinfo Pro My Choice"

What do you like best?

It can handle lot of layers at the same time without getting hanged. option like mapping, append tables, SQL Queries, Region Stats etc, i like the most. it is so handy and simple to understand. I prefer MapInfo over other software while handling any projects.

What do you dislike?

User interface can be make more presentable. As earlier i was using 15.0 and now 15.2, i can see a lot of changes in that. I am sure the next version would be more user friendly.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It is very simple to understand. i guess every company should switch to mapinfo Pro

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

i am currently working on Northumbrian Water Group UK, in which i have to extract the info from the background layer, which can be solved by setting up the target. i have been using this from last 1.5 years. i have used many extended tools too, to deliver the projects.

"MapInfo is used extensively, mainly in UK, Europe and Australia. It is very robust in editing vector"

What do you like best?

In Flood modelling project,MapInfo is used extensively, mainly in UK, Europe and Australia. It is very robust in loading and editing vector and raster layer.

The editing the mif layer is easy as it has very good snapping and trace option. The tools are user friendly, which makes the software easily understandable for a first time users. It can do the complex editing of data seamlessly. Workspace opens fast.

What do you dislike?

Whenever the vector file is edited it has to be saved and also should exported as mif layer. This increase the task to a user. To enter the data in the browser or attribute table is complex as it has to be used Info command.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It is used to flood modelling. It is benefited highly, it is used to built the layer. These layers are used for inputting to the model.

"mapping information ,, GIS ,, "

What do you like best?

how to map the database to the cordinate system and demonstraeing them on the map ,,, actully there is a lot of programs doing that , but there is a lot of features in here let us draw , edit and customize things ,

database and metadata which connected to the objects which located on map is very nice in this program .

What do you dislike?

well , its a long list ,, inspite of a lot of flexebeilty with Mapbasic ,, there is a limitation when u use a network lecince ,, for example , hot keys , shortcust is suck in here , so i wrote a script which is good in my home ,, but i cant use it in my work because of the server thing , so if i put that in server it would affect all useres ,,

more important is navigationnnnnnnnn in this program which is very very very bad ,,

selcet , zoom , deselect , pan , every basic tool , need 3 or 4 clicks with mouse to do it , which can be sooo easy ,, i think its really not hard for the developer in there to develope the navigation system , they could just do it right , give more hot keys ,, like adobe photoshop or autocad ,,,i think they have a lot to deal with in this field .

symbole , legende ,, maßstab ,, :(

Recommendations to others considering the product

try the demo ,, or beta version first ,,,

navigation are suck ,, illestrating the symbols and layout ,,, legende ,, alot of small things annouying me because its simple to fix or develop , and they just keep ignoring it ,

u should learn something in mapbasic which is a scripting language and can help a lot ,

the program can be customized , new tools that meet ur requierment ,, developing "plugins" can be done with mapbasic,,

plotting and printg system need a lot of work too ,, test all these , if u satesfy ,, go for it ;) ,

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

we doing a lot of stuff , mapinfo have a lot of realations and workspaces that we created to locate every things on a map ,

so if its empty houses and we want a plan for it , we will just add this information to the object , locate where are they and they we have it ,

"Awesome - Day - today using Mapinfo for Waste Water Modelling work "

What do you like best?

1. I like the best using of LIDAR data import and visualize with is helpful for modelling lidar for ICM,

2. Awesome tool - exporting raster to .asc file...

3. Easy to plot the plans in pdf

4. More option to use raster tools - like picking pixel coordinate

What do you dislike?

1. I don't like MapInfo .Tab file support only 2GB,

2. Separate license for aerial image incorporation like Bing Maps.

3. if we open large data more than 4 GB .shp its start to hang some time.

4. There is no data driven pages for mapinfo pro - its big drawback to use. needed to depend ArcGIS for this..

Recommendations to others considering the product

Its very easy to use and handle

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We use for waste water hydraulic modelling process the GIS data, easy to handle with Innovyze - InfoWorks ICM

"Mapinfo user"

What do you like best?

I use Mapinfo pro for Flood modelling purpose. In Mapinfo it is easy to split lines and polygons and edit them. Also it shows points, lines and polygon in same layer which is easy for working with. Also labelling is very easy.

What do you dislike?

Once we edit a layer in mapinfo we have to save and export it as tab again.

So I feel its tedious. Also when you reshape each time you have go and press the reshape button while editing a layer.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I would recommend to make the user interface more user friendly

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

"Not the latest and greatest, but can be sufficient for basic needs"

What do you like best?

Modals do a good job of walking users through the querying process, but the MapBasic code can be a huge time saver once you see how it is used.

What do you dislike?

UI can be a bit slow and clunky. Also, the learning curve is fairly steep (but that goes with any GIS tool).

Recommendations to others considering the product

It is definitely not the market leader in the GIS space. It seemed to be really strong in the 90s, but has fallen behind many alternatives now. It is sufficient for basic operations, but it isn't very flashy or especially easy or nice to use.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We have tackled GIS modeling problems with MapInfo Pro. There is no substitute for a GIS program.

"MapInfo for Infoworks ICM"

What do you like best?

The provision for SQL queries and easy handling of tabular data is really helpful

What do you dislike?

With larger tab files, the software lacks the agility and becomes slow. Also, support for SHP files is not excellent

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I use MapInfo mostly to prepare input layers for InfoWorks ICM. MapInfo works excellent for Infowroks ICM

"Do It Yourself GIS"

What do you like best?

I've found MapInfo incredibly easy and straightforward to learn. The interface is easy to navigate around and Pitney Bowes provide a wealth of free online resources to help you self learn. So far, I've not had to get in touch direct with any support questions as a quick google brings up the answer.

What do you dislike?

Coming from a design background, I often wish more creative and publishing features were included in the program.

Recommendations to others considering the product

A really cost effective yet powerful GIS tool that is easy to learn and straightforward to use.

"Used extensively during mineral exploration"

What do you like best?

Great piece of software overall. Relatively easy to use with a simple interface and a good array of features. Made my analysis of soil assay result interpretation a lot easier and quicker than if they had had to be drawn out by hand (always did a random review as a verification test of the software though).

Importing of data in various formats was not too arduous (although I only ever stuck with csv to limit potential problems).

What do you dislike?

Outputting of files to pdf (particularly gridded soil analysis or assay results) was never a quick process, regardless of which machine I had the software installed on.

Scales were always off - I'm sure this can be solved but I have yet to find out how to do it.

The 3D plugin is of limited use - there are pieces of software out there that do it much better.

Handling of very large data sets is not fantastic and could be improved. Can be got around slightly by utilising only CSV files but this can be tiresome.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Not as polished and the output isn't as aesthetic as those produced with Arch, but overall much more simple to use and with the majority of the same functionality.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Used to predominantly assess and interpret the concentrations of various minerals and metals in soil samples. Saved a lot of time over plotting the results by hand. Had limited functionality in being able to drape said results and grids of terrain models but the ability of placing other pertinent geospatial data was very useful.

"Ok. But still needs work"

What do you like best?

Editable layouts, Handles small workspaces quite well, tool search bar is useful

What do you dislike?

Lost batch surface utilities, slower than old version when using large workspaces, the ribbon interface is ok for some aspects but when constantly having to change insert object types and style types becomes tedious. Takes a while to find tools in the ribbon interface

Recommendations to others considering the product

Consider what software other clients or data suppliers are using in regards to data formats and suitability for mapinfo.
