"Good solution for real big data and real time analytics use cases"

What do you like best?

Enterprise ready solution for big data use cases. It is by far the best solution from performance and feature set perspective comparing to its competitors. MapR streams and spyglass is something I like the most along with proprietary formula around MapR FS and Spark integration. Support is fantastic and have not introduced managed service option which works for many of the companies to avoid the complexities.

What do you dislike?

Pricing complexities, Complexities around architecture and no well defined use cases along with POC results and performance results and comparison against competitors.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Please qualify your use case before initiating any work in the direction of identifying, trying, engaging with this big data players. It is open source world but cost of the HW is also a big factor along with data center cost from the power use, rack and stack, cabling, leasing cost and resource cost from operations, professional service and devops. Not all the use cases are meant for Hadoop ecosystem. It is a very complex system so look for easy alternates if you are not dealing with ingesting billions of records into the system.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Ingesting 10s billions of weblogs to produce business related actionable insights in real time and batch.

"Extremely powerful Hadoop distribution"

What do you like best?

Ability to run Map-Reduce jobs on data when it's being ingested in Hadoop is one of the most important reasons to go with MapR. In addition to that, MapR requires very minimal administration

What do you dislike?

Cost could be one of the most important factors not to go with MAPR. Although, free editions are available but given the amount of Administration it will require, it will cost the user/customer almost the same if not more. MAPR recommends physical hard drive and performance can be severely impacted if used with a virtual hard drive.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We are data integration company and we have numerous applications requiring a source to target enterprise data mapping. We certify our products against all Hadoop distributions so that customer can be enabled for any product they may please.

What Big Data Processing and Distribution solution do you use?

"MapR For Financial Companies"

What do you like best?

Mounting the local file system to HDFS and MapR streams is the best part that I like about.

What do you dislike?

Performance of the applications on MapR cluster and the support from MapR team.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It completely depends on the requirement of the company to decide which Hadoop distribution to use

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I worked for a financial company and MapR helped the company in building a large cluster with an ease. For most of the data analysis and it is very easily to run the applications just by pointing to local files instead of moving the files every time to HDFS. MapR streams also helped a lot in our use cases in building the data pipelines.

"Data Aggregation for performing analytics. "

What do you like best?

Need to write standard Java code. , no additional frameworks like spring are needed.

What do you dislike?

It takes a high processing time and slower.

Recommendations to others considering the product

With the new technologies available there are better technologies to go without using MAPR.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The problem we use to get the raw data and perform aggregation and show data stats with rollups and stats.
