"Microfocus Quality Center - A decent test management tool"

What do you like best?

An easy to use software to track software bugs and requirements.

Ease of organizing requirements, test cases and issues by projects.

Ability to upload data from Microsoft XL.

Intuitive and good status reports

What do you dislike?

Not very intuitive, needs some learning curve.

Prompts on actions being successful is not very clear, at times does not save!

If you are idol for a while, you get timed out and all changes will be lost.

License cost is very high.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Pretty decent test management tool that could use some UI updates, as well as reduction in licensing costs

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We were using manual methods to document and track requirements, bugs, test status. This tool was intended to have more efficiency and reduce time spent on manual tasks.

What Test Automation solution do you use?

Thanks for letting us know!

"Good software for defect tracking and requirements"

What do you like best?

Seems to be the best software we have used to track defects and implement requirements. Has a long list of features and enables a "one stop shop" for testing, defects, requirements and analytics.

What do you dislike?

Licensing is strict and the software can be glitchy at times. We have had issues with our changes not properly saving when updating an item. Once you get to know the software it can be worked around easily with the proper workflow.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Make sure your organization will need and use all the features it offers. There may be a cheaper alternative if you don't plan on using all the offered features.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Tracking our defects from start to finish. Implementing new features with requirements and creating test plans to QA the software.

"HP QC is a great tool to manage testing process. it needs improvements"

What do you like best?

the tool offers great organization, document sharing, test scripting features. I use it to write test cases, and it can be shared with my colleagues. they review and update it. Once we start testing, we can update the test cases with the status. It's a great tool if you are just using these features.

What do you dislike?

Though the tool offers a way to organize your test scripts and documents, the UI is very old and there are frequent freezes. This needs to be updated as there are important documents saved in this tool and it would suck to lose those from freezes.

Recommendations to others considering the product

This is a great tool for software development.

It offers easy to use features to manage your scripts and documents.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We are building test scripts and plans for new software updates. This tool is the main platform the entire team (300+) use to manage scripts.

"Solid bug tracking application with bad work flows and it is not user friendly at all."

What do you like best?

HP ALM or HP Quality Center is a solid bug tracking software which has been around for a while. There are plenty of tutorials and help resources online when you need help.

What do you dislike?

- It doesn't have Kanban agile board. HP Quality Center works more like a water fall model.

- The user interface is not very user friendly. It requires many steps to file defect. The work flows is very bad.

- If you write test plans or create defects then it gets timeout, all of yours works will be gone. We had to re-do the works many time because HP Quality Center sometimes doesn't save our works when it gets timeout.

- HP Quality Center's performance is very bad. Sometimes it just hang and crash. QA would have to wait when loading test plans or linking test cases to test labs.

- HP Quality Center's license is very...very expensive.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Support is very good. The forum is very active in case you need help. However, there are lot of better and cheaper bug tracking tools on the market.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We use software to connect truckers and shippers. HP Quality Center help us to keep track of our software defects. The tool has been around for a while and we're confident that it won't go away anytime in the near future.

"Best Project Life cycle Management software"

What do you like best?

You can keep your business requirements, test cases & defects in QC separated by projects. You can upload data to QC straight from excel. You can pull out report of all the test cases executed along with their latest status with nice graphs and charts. You can do manual as well as automatic testing. Multiple test runs can be performed for the same test case by multiple user at the same time.

What do you dislike?

Initial learning curve is a bit steep. Defects are not linked to test cases and becomes difficult to track.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Its a very nice tool that can hold every thing you need for project work. Excel add in helps in easy upload of data to QC. It gives accurate status for project management owned by HP so the support is also excellent. Most of the big companies uses it.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

IT Project Life cycle Management. Benefits realized were in terms of cost saving by reduced effort of manual tracking. Consolidated place for everything related to the project. Accurate reporting of defects during testing and status of test cases executed leading to effective project management.

"Quality Center:A Web-based test management tool"

What do you like best?

Quality Center is a Web-based test management tool, you can organize and manage all phases of the application testing process, including the development of testing requirements, plan tests, execute tests and tracking defects. In addition, you can also create reports and graphs via Quality Center to monitor the testing process.Quality Center is a powerful test management tools, reasonable use Quality Center testing can improve the efficiency, save time, play a multiplier effect.

Since the deployment of QC server is not entirely dependent on IIS, making its server operating system is more flexible (win, Linux, Solaris, etc.). But the DB support range is also reduced to only support Server Oracle and MS-SQL, and TD is still the same as the background does not support the open source database connection, the use of a lot of cost increases.

What do you dislike?

QC's ability to represent the information is weak.Test task time extended if you want to user QC to make the test perfect.

Recommendations to others considering the product

QC can organize and manage all phases of the application testing process, including the development of test requirements, plan testing, implementation of test and tracking defects.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I use QC to manage and analysis the bugs. There are two ways of submitting a defect: a Bug submission based on the test execution process (which is useful for analyzing the defect detection case) and can also be implemented independently (i.e., the tester can access the system at any time). In addition, BUG also provides a QC and test plan Association, the function of the defect tracking configuration

"HP Quality Center"

What do you like best?

The HP Quality lends itself well to users of computers of the HP brand.

What do you dislike?

The quality center's usefulness is dependent primarily on the system itself, whether a computer or a laptop. Often, the price of the computer will tell you how much the quality center will approve or disapprove of the laptop/computer's functionality

Recommendations to others considering the product

The quality center's usefulness is derived from how much HP itself values your system. As seen by me, it only compliments what the company has deemed expensive enough to satisfy its own monetary needs, and as such will slowly try to push any consumers or users to spend more money on more expensive parts or another computer period. The usefulness of the actual program itself is limited. I cannot think of a time where something I was informed of by this program was not something I could tell just by being on my computer.

I use the quality center with my printing software, as it is the software that is automatically used with printing. However, it is frustrating to deal with as a printing software, which is not a software you should ever really struggle with. All I really want is something that prints the papers I want to print when I click the print button, but somehow this process is complicated with this software.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The HP quality center helps your computer and system run and keeps checks on the system as a whole, allowing you in a small sense to detect problems from within the computer.

"Quality Center review"

What do you like best?

Quality Center is very good ERP solution for business. I have used it for managing tickets of projects and it was very useful and helpful in tracking all my data.

What do you dislike?

Its home page can be more interactive. It takes very long to load. It should be fast and easily interacting between various features.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It is good product for managing and logging defects but there are many new open source product available for free which are better than QC.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I used Quality Center for logging defects and accessing tickets to fix those. It is very organized but few features are very repetitive and not needed.

"Ideal test management tool for any size of QA Teams"

What do you like best?

Highly customizable to implement almost all the possible industry leading Software Development and Testing Life cycles. Quality Center helps in planning, execution and monitoring of the Testing Cycle. The reports are very detailed and accurate.

What do you dislike?

Installation and setup are too difficult. It is high time to upgrade the technology that is being used to implement the Quality center. Many a times, existing versions of VC++ and similar softwares interfere with the installation and create a lot of chaos.

Recommendations to others considering the product

This is a great enterprise tool for a established organization.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We were a startup and in need of a solid QA process to improve the quality of our SaaS products. Quality Center helped us to organize the requirements, test cases, test results, team members, test plans and releases. After few months of switching to Quality Center, we were is a position to analyze the QA progress with a glance into the Reports. Team members were very relaxed as it gave a clear road map on where we are heading to with the release.

"Great tool to manage the entire application life cycle - from requirements to testing "

What do you like best?

Requirements management, test case and set management, and its coverage analysis with direct linking to requirements.

The best thing is how you can create end to end scenarios using BPT or actions, you can also have manual tests in these test sets and use spinter during run time. Best tool to manage test automation. The data linkage is very helpful, when you want to use output of one test case to another test case. There are many ways to do it, but the inbuilt way is very handy.

You can create application areas, and manage all the test resources for a particular project .. everything in one place, so everybody can have access to it. It also comes with version control.

What do you dislike?

test run can be a bit better, lot of manually steps when you want to select and deselect particular scenarios you want to run.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It is a total package to manage the entire lifecycle of application testing from requirements, testing to defect tracking. It is also the best tool to use when you are thinking on using UFT for automating your tests, because of its tight integration with QC.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Trying to implement automation framework to do regression testing. We have seen reduced testing time, greater quality control and more clear coverage view of the project. Reporting and dashboards are very helpful and helps us take actions at the right time.

"Great way to track defects for multiple projects!"

What do you like best?

As an Quality Center (ALM) Admin, this tool is very easy to use and provide access to new users joining a company. The best feature of Quality Center is the ease of assigning users specific roles with read/write permissions and assigning them to only the projects they require access to. This allows them to insert bugs and for the entire team to track those defects- allowing developers to fix them at their convenience and simply changing the status of the bug to indicate it has been fixed.

What do you dislike?

Migrating from Quality Center to ALM was a huge pain for my team and I. At first, we discovered a tool called ALM Robot that would do the job on it's own, until we realized the entire repository was not transferred over. This became frustrating as we had to migrate over 50 projects to ALM.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We have been able to keep track of each project's defect velocity across all 50 projects. This gives managers insights on a monthly basis of how how their defect velocity is and opens up discussions with the team to observe how those defects can be reduced.

"Easy and very lightweight to use"

What do you like best?

- Easy to use.

- Very very lightweight

- Creation of new items is quick and easy

- Adding a new user is so easy that one does not need a admin team for it.

- Nice support for test plan and test lab.

What do you dislike?

There is nothing much to dislike. Some kinds of report generation would have been userful.

Agile support required.

Test automation can be made simpler.

Searching an old item is tough. A dynamic query support can be provided.

Recommendations to others considering the product

The best thing about this tool is its very light in nature. You can click and get the result. No wait time while working on it. i have used IBM Clear Quest as well which is sometimes very slow.

User account creation is very simple and can be managed by a team member by providing him an admin role.

The new version of QC has so much of improvement.

The plugin for excel sheet comes very handy and a test script written in excel sheet can be easily pushed to QC test plan.

Test lab and test plan are more than enough to track the whole system testing.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Tracking of all defects and changes in my project.

Storing test script for changes.

Execution of test script.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It helps with the documentation of test cases and the execution of these cases. It helped with the testing documentation piece of the project and the metrics for each project. It provided great documentation for reporting status.

What do you like best?

It's easy to maintain project. Easy to assign people. Result update by manually and automated way and report page is too good. Its centralize project management too. I love this tool very much. I would like to recommended this tool strongly.

What do you dislike?

If you provide a light weight video link for a general problem. it would be good. I don't know how to export report to a PPT. Like some general information link should be there along with video.

Recommendations to others considering the product

"HP QC review"

What do you like best?

The option to manage all the tests in one tool (requirements , tests plan , running the tests and manage defects).

The tool gives a good picture about the state tests and available to other then QA team.

What do you dislike?

1. Requirements : It is give option for failed or success only. so if you have 10 requirements and only 1 failed then all the requirement mark as failed. it will better if HP will display it as %. It will show the real requirements status.

2. You can't have an option to change fonts or / and change the fonts size (for test plan , test lab and defects). this is basic feature that actually missing.

Recommendations to others considering the product

The QC is not cheap tool but in the end of the day your ROI will be fast. you will not spent your time to understand if your product quality are good and you include all the requirements and will not spent time to generate report to your managers (they can do it easily!)

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

In order to manage the QA in any company , you must central toll. the best tool that existing is HP -QC .

It is save time and money and give you the option to know on line what is the real Quality of your products or projects.

"Firsthand experience with Quality Center"

What do you like best?

One of the most powerful and easy to use performance testing software. Integration with QTP and LoadRunner along with few other quality testing tool makes it a very unique product.

What do you dislike?

The cost is very very high when comparing to other performance testing tools in the market. However, the support team is very dedicated when there are issues and hence it is makes it a worthwhile product. Also the setup at times is not straightforward; however, once a user gets pass the initial setup hurdle it is smooth sail from there.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Cost may be high and kind of daunting at the beginning; however, the support team is amazing and will always take the extra mile to help out issues that customers face.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

"Defect management & QA by HP QC"

What do you like best?

It's the best tool for Quality Assurance - testing, defect tracking and management.

What do you dislike?

There are still many bugs that needs to be improved and taken care of by HP management.

- Running scripts can some time take forever

- The application requires many ad-ons and installations each time you load HP QC

- The server crash issue while loading the application

- The application freezes

Recommendations to others considering the product

It's a nice tool for anyone who would like to manage their IT or business needs for defects tracking and issue resolution.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It provides a feature for RTM (Requirement Traceability Matrix) - we wanted to have a good coverage around the test defects before we finally go live.

- Hierarchy structure is well organized - Test plan and test lab module are displayed in the tree (hierarchy) structure and easily accessible

- Good view for end user and tester to operate while using this product

- Very nice export feature for the data that you would like to have it on your desktop, files or server - easily integrated with various reporting options available like excel, word, etc.

- You can set your mailbox information in HP Quality center and by having it configured in the tool, you can receive an auto email notification each time you want to see a defect being logged, actioned by any user or tester or if it's being resolved

- You can set priorities for the defects that are being tracked and logged - based on the business criticality, you can deem it as Low, Medium or High (Critical) - 3, 2 and 1 rankings

"quality centre "

What do you like best?

It covers full SDLC, manages requirements and testing and gives a full view of the world regardless of method.

One of my favourite features is the ability to capture evidence within test execution. You can then associate screen evidence at step level. The tool also nicely integrates with other HP tools such as QTP which is now known as UFT from version 12. There are also many third party plugins available for integration.

What do you dislike?

Sadly the price and user cost is high, however based on company size you can factor this in

Recommendations to others considering the product

I have been in the software testing industry for nearly 20 years. I have used many tools and find that QC always comes out as the favourite. It ticks all the boxes for all of the SDLC and covers end to end testing nicely. One of my favourite features is the ability to capture evidence with in the execution run time so you can associate screens with steps. This helps for many ISO standards.

The tools also integrate nicely into other HP and third party applications.

This would cover full SDLC eg requirements and planning and release and test and execution and incident management and reporting

"Liked the flexibility of Quality Center"

What do you like best?

I liked the way you can organize your test cases and test scripts. It allows for reuse and can speed up the testing process and ability to provide status to management.

What do you dislike?

I do not like that you cannot have multiple test scripts tied to one test case. Or that you can reuse the same test case. You have to copy the test case to reuse it. I want to create the test case once and execute it multiple times for each release.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Have a plan in place as to how you want to test before you select a tool. Do not pick a tool then figure out how you want to standardize your testing. Allow the tool to work for you and if your process doesn't fit in the tool review your process so the tool can help your process.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We are solving the problem of not having a standard way of reporting testing status. We have been able to get teams reporting on the same reports and in the same standard way.

"Great quality software"

What do you like best?

The management of defects - fast, easy and effective.

What do you dislike?

The limitations of statistics available - for example when displaying overview of test results.

Defect management is also easy to follow with features such as linking defects to test scripts and exporting useful statistics. However the options are limited and there is room for improvement.

The problems had to do with the prioritisation of the tests and the identification of critical tests that had to be run. The benefits were that it was easy to monitor the test execution and make estimates of project delivery.

Workflow standardisation and reuse - various projects which are aligned by development, maintenance, support groups and each team has specific need. By implementing the standard logic using VB Script, we designed the Standard Workflow which was very helpful.

"Quality Center Review"

What do you like best?

The Test Configuration option is the one I like most. It helps in reducing the time during script creation and also pater on when more similar scrips needs to be added. we can just update the Test Configuration.

What do you dislike?

its inability to do Parameters for each step is a drawback.

Also, we are not able to upload Call in Scripts into scripts. We need to map it after the script is been uploaded into ALM from Excel.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Pretty good tool. Single repository for all needed.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Here we are using AC/ALM for uploading Test Cases and mapping them to Requirements, running the test cases and raising defects.

"First Problem: HP and Quality Do Not Belong in the Same Sentence"

What do you like best?

I appreciate that since the acquisition of Mercury Interactive Co., the HP Software Division has improved since most of its products came from that acquisition. This product is an alright option for IT quality assurance of various software applications.

What do you dislike?

When dealing with products that are targeted towards IT minded persons a company should review the quality assurance of its own product before releasing it. As with many HP products there are many bugs to be weeded out and even when the system functions properly it is inadequate.

Recommendations to others considering the product

A large part of quality assurance is reporting. Review JIRA for there query functions.
