"The first tool you starting working in Azure"

What do you like best?

Azure AD is powerful identity service that allows management of users for your cloud solutions. You can keep users of Azure and Officce365 in single directory, which makes you free from doin the same work several times. It is easy to control user permissions using RBAC, you can use preconfigured roles for your users or create custom roles for detailed control of all aspects of users access. Azure AD provides native tools for integration with your on-premise active directory, so you don`t even need to create users by yourself, and your users and still use single credentials to access both on-premise and cloud sides of your infrastructure. Also you can extend functionality of your on-premise AD, by adding Multi-Factor authentication and self-service user portal, so users can maintain their passwords without opening the cases with helpdesk

What do you dislike?

Rich functionality assumes complexity of implementation, for example in case of implementing MFA, you will need to have your users authenticated via RADIUS server, which is not widely used solution for on-premise AD, and you will probably need to redesign and rebuild your directory.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Many new users treating Azure AD as replacement of on-premise Active directory, it is wrong, it can extend, but not replace it. Implementation of full functionality will take a lot of time, so don`t expect, that it will go-live in couple of days. You will need a lot of resources and experienced staff to to adopt it

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Extension for in-premise Active Directory

"Started to learning of Azure from it"

What do you like best?

Azure AD is a flexible authentication mechanism for Microsoft cloud services mainly Azure and Office 365. Allows synchronization of users from on-premise AD, with mutli-factor authentication and self-service features, which can be enabled separately. Application registration allows authenticating users in company approved applications using Azure AD. Domain services allows using Azure AD as a cloud version of Domain Controller, it does not have full functionality of regular AD, but can be useful in specific cases. RBAC allows control of user access based on pre-built or custom roles

What do you dislike?

Not very straightforward pricing, it is common problem for all Azure resources. Hard for budget planning

Recommendations to others considering the product

Avoid federation of your users without synchronizing them. They will lose access to Azure resources as well, if you datacenter will fail

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Integration of cloud services to existing Active Directory environment

"Main authentication tool for Azure"

What do you like best?

Azure AD provides broad set of great working user management tools, such as Identity Service, On-Premise Active directory integration, Single Sign-On, Self Service credential management for end users and even domain services, which can be used as domain controller for your Azure Virtual Machines. Detailed documentation and responsible support makes your experience with Azure AD very pleasant.

What do you dislike?

Customer facing tools could be designed better, RADUIS only authentcation support for Multi-Factor authentication, rebuilding your existing AD for it can be a problem

Recommendations to others considering the product

Fast growing identity solution, even if some functions are not useful now, these can be useful in near future. Read all the update information emails, you probably can find something that you need there

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Integration between datacenter and cloud environment

"Azure Active Directory - Cloud Identity done right."

What do you like best?

I love the fact that I can extend the Azure AD in a B2B fashion to other SaaS products. I give my users just 1 credential and I can re-purpose it to logon to almost 3000+ other SaaS solutions out there. This is truly Single SignOn at it's best.

What do you dislike?

I dislike the amount of marketing Microsoft is putting into this in my country (Netherlands). They are missing out on a huge market potential, while it's pretty obvious they have the best proposition out there.

Recommendations to others considering the product

This is truly a great product, that with every add-on you purchase (for instance EMS) adds more functionality and protection for your users.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Single Sign-On, Modern Authentication and Multi-Factor Authentication

"Active Directory on Azure"

What do you like best?

One of the biggest advantages have to use Azure AD is the ability to deliver a SSO platform for the entire enterprise.

In our case we implement Azure AD in order to replicate our server AD on-premise in the cloud and offer authenticated access service to our users outside the office and remote branches.

Once implemented in Azure AD we get all of our users agree to the platform and could use both Office 365 business PCs as well as on their mobile devices.

On the other hand, with Azure AD we keep our users connected all the time from online applications Office 365 as well as his own, always using a single authentication method.

What do you dislike?

Regarding the disadvantages almost you can not name many, unless a VM in Azure has an additional cost this is quickly solved by having replicated AD infrastructure everywhere.

Perhaps one of the things that can be a disadvantage is the speed with which you access the VM in Azure, but resolves having a good internet connection.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Of course I recommend the use of Azure AD for those users who need a centralized platform in Windows environments and especially for those using Office 365. It is a robust, secure and easy platform to deploy and maintain.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

As I mentioned before, we can solve the problems in our company was maintaining a consistent and secure SSO structure. With our server replicated in Azure AD we get all the benefits of a heterogeneous environment and safe for the whole organization.

"Will be outstanding identity solution in future"

What do you like best?

Azure AD is not very complex but powerfull identity solution for cloud and some on-premises deployment, RBAC is clear, you can create custom roles for your users. Powershell module is good you can do all operation with it

What do you dislike?

Azure AD domain services is that what we want to have for our cloud infrastructure, but it still can`t fully replace domain controller deployed on virtual machine, hope it will be fixed in future

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Azure AD allows users in authenticate on Azure recorces using their on-premise credentials
