"tool for planning activities and project resources"

What do you like best?

I like project because it offers the possibility of managing all the activities that make up a process of project execution. and its very helpfull for my work Simplifies project and resource portfolio management with Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management . Integrated planning tools help you keep track of projects and keep you organized. It is a tool that helps us to make decisions in a timely manner because it allows us to develop and design projects in the company with their respective allocation of resources. It should be noted that it has functions to monitor the physical and financial progress of the company, administrative budget design and workload analysis.

it is a useful tool, if you want to carry out in detail each one of the tasks executed for the fulfillment of the objectives established in the industrial complex.

It is a program that allows to assist the people who make the decision, in the process of project development, programs, plans, allocation of resources to tasks, monitoring progress, managing the budget and analyzing data from the industrial complex .

What do you dislike?

the program does not have the option to measure the productivity of the machines or personnel. being a weakness of importance, which requires work for its construction project control model.

the service of the program is expensive in comparison with the alternatives presented by the competition, consequently, in a small company it is not advisable to buy this service because it would be underutilizing the tools offered by the system, and complicating the economic activities unnecessarily.

and it can be complex for beginners

Recommendations to others considering the product

I think it should be more accessible to users because it is expensive and unaffordable for users

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Microsolf Projets is used for the quarterly and annual planning of the production with the purpose of making technical reports that allow to strengthen the productive process of the textile production plants of the industrial complex , it has helped me to manage the times of accomplishment of taras as well as to avoid delays in the supply chain of raw materials

"Good software for track and manage projects"

What do you like best?

The software is really robust for track and manage the complete project cycle of every project in the company. you can manage the resources of the company and how are they assigned to the projects, you can keep the cost and schedule (start and end date and time) on every single task within the project. The Gantt chart or project map is really cool and it's made in real time within the application.

What do you dislike?

The software is designed to track and manage really big projects, which is really cool and is the main focus of the application, but sometimes it feels the software is too big and complex to manage really simple projects.

Recommendations to others considering the product

The licensing could be a little pricey, but the software is really robust and allows the tracking of the complete company portfolio of projects. In some cases, the soft ware comes bundled with some of the premium versions of Microsoft Office, which could be really good if you also use Microsoft Office within your company, so you won't have to buy it as a separate package.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

In our company we keep track of several concurrent projects, and with the help of the project server it helps to manage all the resources within the company and which one is applied to each project. The reports are really cool and easy to get and are specially useful for our scheduled weekly meetings with the customers.

"MS Project Delivers Results"

What do you like best?

I love (love!) that I can sync my Project Pro 2016 files with task lists on SharePoint sites.

What do you dislike?

I dislike the license cost for each Project Pro 2016 seat.

Recommendations to others considering the product

So...here's the deal. We don't want to use Project Pro 2016. We want to use the Office 365 MS Project Online application. But our IT hasn't enable this application and very likely won't be enabling the Project Online application within the next calendar year. My recommendation would be to use Project Online. However, MS Project Pro 2016 is a great alternative especially if your enterprise utilizes the SharePoint environment as well. Be prepared for a small learning curve in getting started with using Project Pro 2016 productively but nearly as bad as some other online project management applications. Also, *big recommendation*: learn the Project Pro 2016 shortcut keys for adding tasks, summaries, indenting and outdenting tasks etc. Suuuuuper helpful!

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

One of the biggest problems that we're solving with MS Project Pro 2016 is collaboration and communication of project plans, backlogs, and tasks. Syncing Project files with task lists on our PMO SharePoint pages is a huge win for us team of PMs. This feature makes it very easy to communicate information about the progress on a project in almost real time. Love it.

"Project"

What do you like best?

The Project and Portfolio ap provides you with templates and shortens the time you spend on putting things in place. You can focus on the depth of the information you are sending out rather than throwing something together and it does not appear professional and the information is missed. You can also invite your team into the project. This works well when delegating information and having staff work on different components of a project.

What do you dislike?

The software is somewhat limiting and can cause frustration because it doesnt have what you are being asked to provide. When bringing in new team members it is safe to give them a preview of the software to make sure they can utilize the product and keep up the pace of the project.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I have been able to put together a rough draft of a project quicker, saving time stress and can edit it to the likeness of my team quicker. While using the software I have been able to view the project and show the process when asked.

"Project manager in an easy way"

What do you like best?

I like project because it lends an administration of all those projects this tool helps us to develop and design projects of our company, given the options of allocation of resources to tasks, follow up on progress, administrat budget and workload analysis .

I also like that you keep track of the risks that the project has with the data that is provided in the template.

it included the ability to create and manage activity plans, also known as lightweight projects, and personal projects

What do you dislike?

You can not measure neither the productivity of the machines nor the people, other than the performance either. This is a great disadvantage for the program, since it is an important item for project control.

Very expensive compared to the alternatives presented by the competition.

The application to work on the Internet is purchased separately

It is not a multiplatform program (those that work in both LINUX and WINDOWS), so it has restricted its use to certain users.

It also does not have the basic tools for the planning of most projects.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I recommend project as it is a complete project manager of your company, since it has several tools that help you keep track of your activities or tasks of your project, also helps in making decisions and the execution schedule of tasks scheduled to complete a project.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Assist project managers in the development of plans, assignment of resources to tasks, track progress, manage budget and analyze workloads.

"Tracking the project was never professional before."

What do you like best?

The MS project is a well known tool for the beginners and also the pros who like me who are in IT industry and this tool has helped us over many years and now it has become an important tool for tracking resource allocation and finishing the project in a scheduled time. Also the different charts representations is the most attractive feature i like about it.

What do you dislike?

The only thing i dislike about MS project is the tools still an underrated amongst the software engineers as the Microsoft like Giant havent been totally focusing totally on the development of the tool which results in less popularity amongst other tools who are specially build for industry project like Altassians JIRA.

Recommendations to others considering the product

As MS project is a great tool for development and maintaining portfolio in recent times due to its ease of use and its functionalities which satisfies almost everyones need.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I have been solving many problems like scheduling, project planning ,resource allocation , Maintenance, and Project cost estimation.

"Microsoft Project really helps keep me on task and organized."

What do you like best?

I like how robust Microsoft project is. I can track costs, milestones, resource, due dates, etc. all withing one project. I can honestly say it is a Microsoft Product that works and works well.

What do you dislike?

There is a steep learning curve which is one of it's downfall. Once you learn the software it isn't too bad. Another downfall is how ugly it looks when printed out. If everyone has project and you can show it inside the software then all is good. But if you have to print something out for a meeting, it gets messy.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you are a project manager and are having trouble keeping things on task, this will be exactly what you will need. This tool is the best one on the market.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I am a project manager and it helps me be as efficient at my job as possible.

"Easy to use Software for Project Schedules"

What do you like best?

What I like best about this software is that it is a Microsoft product so it is straightforward to use. You can open the document easily and start sifting through the schedule in front of you and add and delete as needed.

What do you dislike?

The one thing I dislike is that this software is not available on a Mac, so I end up using it on the Parallels side of my computer. If they could make it available across all platforms, it would make it so much easier to use.

Recommendations to others considering the product

My recommendation is to immediately save the document as soon as you start working on it. Even the smallest changes can make a difference and if you don't save you might lose important information. Also, be sure to ensure your version is on the server if you choose to use the server option. Otherwise, the changes you make will stay on your local machine and never be seen from other team members. Other than that, great software to use for teams needing to use this software. Another suggestion is that it needs to be checked out prior to use, otherwise, it can override a version someone is already working on.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The biggest issue this was resolved is that I can know view the actual schedule and make changes if I need to rather than getting a PDF of the schedule and having no control of the document. The benefit is that I can edit the schedule to realize hypothetical scenarios and dates for a particular project.

"May be your best option for your company Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management???"

What do you like best?

What I like most about this application is that it is designed to support the selection, planning and execution of a variety of different jobs, including, among others, traditional projects. They often include collaboration and communication skills, and allow work teams and project offices to report and monitor projects. Your tools can help with decision-making in projects and resource-intensive work environments.

What do you dislike?

It is very intuitive at the time of configuring the tasks in the advanced way and there are very few tutorials that help you to carry out this important work at the moment of making the most of this application. We have many unique applications in which we must integrate to do match and avoid doing the same job repeatedly.

Recommendations to others considering the product

The problem with more priority to solve would be to have more tutorials at the time of the advanced configuration that is more intuitive. Other questions that may not have been considered to configure them correctly would be: resource overflow processes, escalation routes and different business intelligence options. If you plan to integrate into other products, this is essential. We have several other accounting tracking systems, time sheet and existing expenses. Be more accessible with reference to the purchase cost.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I can solve the following commercial problems thanks to this application such as: configuration of schedules that are flexible, tracking of resource allocations, reports on real values versus projected ones. When configured correctly, this product does an excellent job. We have many projects in which resources are distributed. We try to take advantage of the power of the platform to combine and use the product to see in which state of execution each project is located.

"Hard to get going but once you do..."

What do you like best?

Full functionality and resource management across multiple projects. It easily integrates into other platforms since the product sits on SharePoint. If a user uses SharePoint, the training for document management, alerts, and the like are negligible.

What do you dislike?

Not the easiest thing to set up. Of course you could just use the out of the box functionality to get started, but in our case, we have a lot of unique applications we need to integrate into to match up and avoid doing the same work repeatedly. You really need to have your processes fully documented in order to set this up properly.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Get an consultant to come in and help set this up. They will ask question you may not have considered in order to set this up properly...like escalation paths, resource overrun processes, and the different business intelligence options. If you plan to integrate into other products, this is a must. We have several other existing accounting, timesheet, and expense tracking systems. To get that information in sync with PPM, we had to write some connections.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Tracking resource allocations, setting up schedules that are flexible, reporting on actuals vs projected. When set up properly, this product does an excellent job. We have a lot of projects which resources are spread across... to ensure that we are not overallocating the person's time, we need to see into all projects across the portfolio. We need to report on how the projects are doing across the portfolio at a moments notice, this product allows for the creation of specialized views of the dashboard depending on the role of the user.

"Divides up project tasks easily to help manage timeline of project progression."

What do you like best?

I like the ability to change tasks order and keep track of what needs to happen as the project progresses. MS Project makes it simple to oversee what needs to still happen on a project and what deadlines are coming up. When my team reviews it, they get an easy birds-eye view of the project. When using this for task management, you can sort each column by task and then submit the task list to each department involved. This makes task distribution much easier.

What do you dislike?

Depending on if the tasks are in AUTO mode or MANUAL mode will change the way that the software reacts. I find it challenging when dates you have set change unintentionally and there is not an easy way to get it back in order. Sometimes the formatting of the project is a little clunky. If there was a better way to format the output, I think I would find that helpful.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I always use software for my needs. Sometimes out of the box any software does not work as you would desire. This is often the case for my workflow. Give MS Project a chance to work for you. Watch tutorials, take a class. Whatever it takes to get the most out of MS Project for your purposes.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I am solving the task management problem. We struggle with more than 12 projects active at any given time. We attempt to leverage the power of the platform to combine and use the product to see where each project lies.

"Good and easy for managing project and monitoring it."

What do you like best?

MS project has capability of managing project along with making its portfolio at the same time. Ms project with the use of different charts and diagrams shows us the collective work for developed software. The cost of the project accounting every resource available ca be calculated with MS project and the portfolio can made accordingly.

What do you dislike?

The one feature dislike about MS project is the amount of unwanted features which are sometimes obstacle in the project development. The scheduling, resource planning and cost estimation cant be incorporated in any other project management tool.

Recommendations to others considering the product

For all the beginners to college students to project managers i would strongly recommend this software for managing the software development .

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I am regular user of MS project and portfolio management as it has helped me in solving many project management related problems like estimating the cost ,planning the software with the schedule.

"Project management for 8 years using MS Project"

What do you like best?

Easy to use

Manage project progress, resources effectively. Adjust the schedule easily. Perfect to generate gratt chart

This is used to drive the project schedule to meet deadline, use effectively resources (resource leveling). It is also compatible completely with PMP (Project Management Professional), therefore project managers with PMP certificated are working very well with MS Project

What do you dislike?

The price is so high. The customized reports are not easy to create

This application requires project management knowledge in advance and it is just more effective for small to medium projects.

There is no case study to learn from the practical experiences as there are so many concepts that need to be applied.

Think about integrating with other project management tools such as JIRA to manage the full life cycle of development project

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you start working on project and portfolio management or you are PMP certificated, Microsoft Project and Portfolio management is one of the best choices to utilize. It is very good for planning, controlling and taking appropriate actions against the variances shown up compare to the base lines. You are not worried about the schedule conflicts or resource limitation as this tool can allow to facilitate all of these. This tool also allows you to link between projects that make our life more easy.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The problems come from the schedule conflicts that MS Project and Portfolio Management solve very effectively. Resource leveling is also addressed by this tool

"Email and projects fused together"

What do you like best?

I have found that the fact that it is a Microsoft based product and the fact that my company uses outlook I have been able to blend together my files, projects that are completed/pending, and my emails + calendar all into one easy to use software.

What do you dislike?

I haven't encountered any problems yet with the software, it would be poor to complain about a software I use in work because it i might not enjoy the work but as for the organisational tools this software offers I can't find fault.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I would recommend a simple chat section to chat between members of the same project, it is easy to send an email with regards to an issue but in meetings it would be made extremely easy to include a chat section so as to add an extra layer or person to the project whilst you are working on it.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We have been able to increase communication between the different members who feature in the project. Not only this but we have been able to categorise the work and files associated with the project that has increased the effectiveness in which we work.

"Great tool for sprint planning"

What do you like best?

I like how easy it is to copy and paste a task list from Excel in to Project. I usually start with Excel and then move to Project when I need to start setting dates and assigning people to each task.

The way an update made to a task date automatically cascades to all its child items is very helpful but it would be nice if there was more guidance around how that works as sometimes it isn't intuitive.

What do you dislike?

The learning curve for a first time user is steeper than most other Microsoft products. It would be nice to have more flexibility to customize the style and color theme of the timeline as I often need to put it in to a presentation for my customers.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

As a program manager I use this tool to detail the delivery phases for new features that my team is working on. I also use it to assign tasks to individual team members based on their available capacity.

"Much Better Than It Used To Be"

What do you like best?

Resource levelling now works well and allows projects to be resource driven with confidence.

The new range of templates is truly staggering including ones for sprint management which allow Agile projects to be scheduled and delivered using MS Project

What do you dislike?

Still requires too many key presses to perform some reasonably basic tasks. It should be possible to update a number of tasks (not all with the same information) in a sequence by highlighting them and the system automatically moving you to the next . You can't!

Recommendations to others considering the product

Be very clear what you want it to do and think carefully about the right project template to use, the resource pool and the calendars before committing tasks to the project. Remember that you can import a list from excel if you have been putting a task list together before deciding to schedule

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Scheduling software development, internally.

Scheduling deployment projects for clients.

Planning marketing and business development activities

"Great product"

What do you like best?

Easy to learn program. This program helps users students the integral roll of project management.

What do you dislike?

Constant use of a product key. This is the worst because this cause a lot of problems and reoccurring costs.

Recommendations to others considering the product

This product does well with what its supposed to do. It works well as a teaching tool for us, and the students tend to pick it up quickly and easily. Most of the users we have continue using the product well after the class. On the lower side of things, make sure you are ready to keep a constant license for the program. This is really the only downside to the entire product and one that is sometime very easy to overlook. If you like a reliable solution to project management, this is defiantly the solution for you or your business.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Since we are a Higher Education Institution, we use this to teach students how to manage projects with this solution. This product works wonders in this situation. Students that we talk to after the classes are over tell us how awesome the product is and how great it was to use. After the first few classes has grand reviews. We decided to keep using the product.

"Good project planning platform"

What do you like best?

Its flexibility that allows you to manage any project size and almost any project complexity, like budgeted or not, with resources or not, using partial resources or not etc.

The visual display of the timeline and the gantt charts

The integration with Project Server

Task dependencies and priorities

What do you dislike?

Sometimes changes to a well developed project plan can mess it up completely if you are not paying attention: more assistance to the user from the tool could help with this.

Not as straightforward to learn by new users

Recommendations to others considering the product

This is the go to software for project management.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Project management for all my projects. It saves a lot of time by helping with project team communication, task assignments. The team member has a very clear understanding what are his/her tasks.

Overall it decreased the time and effort required for project management and increased the success rate of our projects.

"Microsoft Project - for Project Management "

What do you like best?

I love the filtering abilities in Microsoft Project, I am constantly using them for zooming in on what's critical whether in a meeting or working solo to update the schedule. I often have schedules over 500 lines, so the filters are key for me to focus myself and the team.

What do you dislike?

I wish there was an easier way to set up reports. It looks like there are tons of cool features, but they aren't as user-friendly as some of the other Microsoft Project features. I'll need to invest more time in getting myself trained, because they do look very helpful once you know how to set them up.

I really miss the "Inactive" feature that was taken away. That was SO HELPFUL for me during meetings to show the possible outcomes of changing courses of the project. Deleting links via predecessor fields is risky because I may not always make it back to fix it, and after 6 changes it's too far away to go back. I really miss that feature.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management is a great tool for managing projects! I haven't found anything out there that comes close to the clarity and flexibility of Microsoft Project when running a project. It can be helpful for a detailed view for those included in the project, as well as a quick view for upper management just looking for a high-level understanding.

"Easy management of project activities"

What do you like best?

The simplicity that's expected from Microsoft products. Project management is straightforward. Has most of the feature needed for medium upper level. It is easy to organize the whole project using Microsoft project. Then assign some whole tasks for next management (or engineering level) and let them start their own sub-project that will report to your main project. With some creativity you can divide big complicated tasks into several smaller projects (files) and do each one seperately.

What do you dislike?

Some advance tasks require a more sophisticated and specialized program. Having a complex and parallel tasks reporting to other higher level parallel tasks that are all in one project can be done, but needs more organization. I will love using Microsoft Project though

Recommendations to others considering the product

It is very easy to start using project management software using Microsoft Project. Simply launch and start playing around for couple of minutes, you will find your way. The more you develop the more it will help you, only at some very advanced and professional tasks that you might feel something is missing, and you might never feel that

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It is easy to get any new trainee inline with the program. With some short introduction and playing around they can start doing what they are assigned for in less than a day. That's one point I love about this program

"MS Project - good tool for PMs"

What do you like best?

Advanced functionality allowing to manage projects which includes project scheduling, resource planning, track work progress, create multiple reports and forecasts.

What do you dislike?

Sometimes it's hard to find required feature or formula, interface is very complex and I would say it is not intuitively understandable. You should take a training or watch a video to understand how to use all the features. There is no "light version", and the larger part of users just don't know all the options that are available.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I would recommend to use built-in dashboards that allow to evaluate easily the project progress: burndown charts that reflected the project progress and amount of work remaining; reports with project cost overview, detailed charts that include upcoming and remaining tasks status, etc. Try to follow the best practices and methods: try to use the same unites for project duration (hours or days for all project tasks), avoid time constraints, check that project does not have abandon tasks (tasks without predecessors and or successors). Use the timeline to visualize the project milestones, key tasks and deliverables.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I use Project 2013 for managing projects and programs: creating project plans, tracking activities, assign resources, plan the project budget, create multiple reports related to project overall status and health. I use MS Project for managing programs, and it allows to include multiple sub-projects, define inter dependencies between them, plan budget, and proactively reduce the risks related to program schedule and cost.

"Best in the business."

What do you like best?

I like this is one of the best services with some of the best high quality elements that are available, you can use this for almost anything work related or even at your own home. This is what you need in your business if you need to get work done quickly and with any problems. I would recommend this to anyone who needs the best for both work and in home jobs that you need to complete task rather quickly.

What do you dislike?

I only dislike that sometimes the program will hard crash and some of your work might be missing but that is only every once in awhile, it rarely happens but when it does it can become frustrating but be assured that most of the time all of your hard work is still their within the program.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I would recommended this too anyone who needs to get work done fast and with no major problems, if you try it at least once you will fall in love with this program and it will make both your work projects and home projects fast and easy to complete.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I use this program to get most of my paper work done which includes signatures from both other businesses and private clients. I also use this program to collect certain data that is needed to record what is available on floor and in the warehouse. The benefits of this program are its ability to give you all you data that you are looking for very quickly without any problems or slowdowns and it is great for neddiing information very quickly during the work day.

"must have for project management"

What do you like best?

the new 2017 version made some great improvements, and it got even easier than before to organize your project tasks, which, without this, can get very messy.

What do you dislike?

The way that the dependencies work might get improved, as dates usually need to be manually corrected, but still makes it easier than using excel along.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I'd say adding MPP to your existing project management activities is definitely a plus, and will make your life easier in many different aspects.

Considering how easy it is to track ownership, timelines, dates, and also how one tasks might have dependencies over other tasks facilitates organizing projects. The other tool I find very helpful is the Gantt charts that get created automatically based on the tasks list you complete on the left panel, which allows you to see and easily set up how tasks might overlap allowing you to save time, shorten timelines and deliver projects faster. I'd definitely recommend Microsoft Project Professional to any IT or any other industry employee that works with deliveries or project type tasks, but not only to professionals performing the actual Project Manager or Technical Project Manager role, but to any other project participan, as it will help all of them to keep track of their responsibilities and make sure they don't get overdue, which usually happens in projects that involve many different tasks and require the participation of multiple employees from different departments within the organization.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

it's very easy to make sure all tasks have an owner, and allows you to make follow ups on a timely manner, to the owner of each task, without wasting time

"Used several versions of Microsoft Project & Portfolio, definitely has improved over time"

What do you like best?

The scheduling engine within Microsoft Project is the gold standard. I can enter my effort, constraints, and resources and it outputs a date for me. That is how you should estimate a project is by letting the tool calculate how long it will take and not trying to manufacturer a date.

What do you dislike?

I have used several versions of the Portfolio Management tool and it always made it easier and worked better if everything had a project plan. Some small initiatives or support projects, did not have a true plan and it was always hard to accommodate.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It is a solid project that is going in the right direction. The first version of the tool I used in 2007 and it has grown leaps and bounds since. This is a great tool for managing a project portfolio or PMO.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Managing individual projects as well as an entire portfolio. It streamlines the communication process and provides a single place for executives to view the status of multiple projects.

"Quite easy to teach yourself"

What do you like best?

I like that it is easy to breakdown a project into different tiers of importance, and be able to assign time frames, cost, and people to each line item. This application also allows you to run reports based on cost, resourcing, and timelines.

What do you dislike?

The only complaint I have is that sometimes it is difficult to get line items in the correct place if they need to be moved.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It's very easy to learn if you just play around with it for a while! Be patient, and use YouTube if you need a tutorial

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I am able to map out a project in an application built for such a thing. It has several capabilities, and it's nice and organized. I am also able to share it with a project team to let everyone know the schedule and budget of the project they are working on.

"Solid, reliable plaform"

What do you like best?

It is compatible with all other microsoft applications and it is very user friendly for people who are inexperienced with project management. It is easy to pick up and learn.

What do you dislike?

It is overly complicated and there are almost too many features you can change. It is easy to make a mistake that can take a very long time to fix.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It is the most popular software for the average person in project management. Consulting companies or software companies may prefer something more powerful, but is project management is not the foundation of your business - then this is the best.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Large-scale projects that involve many pieces and lots of people - the software has helped us to stay on track and have reasonable expectations on when things need to get done to meet our deadlines.

"The defacto standard has it warts, but the population of users makes it all worth while."

What do you like best?

A very nimble product with many great reporting features.

What do you dislike?

Tries to enable all users. So many people think they know CPM planning tools when they do not. Bugs constantly come up with the tool. It is so easy to lock up all calculations with a perceived circular logic. The highlight filter disables the record filter. The subproject feature has failed me on several occasions. Very troublesome to not have the subproject UIDs when viewing the mast project.

Recommendations to others considering the product

The server side of MS Project is still a poor product,

Oracle P6 still rules in quality.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Resource load, level and cost out IMS for management visibility and earned value tracking. Create extensive Schedule Risk Assessments (SRA) on key programmatic deliverables. Instill accountability for ownership on each task. Conduct status review meetings to maintain project momentum and for earned value updates submitted to finance.

"Great product for mature PMOs"

What do you like best?

* Ability to perform advanced functions around resourcing and costing

* Automatic scheduling of tasks and identification of critical tasks/path

What do you dislike?

* Too complex to use for small projects

* Parameters have be set precisely for automated functions to perform

Recommendations to others considering the product

This is a great product for mature PMOs looking to use advanced functionality around resourcing, costing, portfolio consolidation, etc. For PMOs that are still early on the maturity spectrum, I'd recommend other less-complicated and less-costly options .

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I often use this solution for projects that are created from a project template. The software is easy to adapt to existing project data, and allows you to easily cut & paste additional subgroups from a different template, or even a subproject within the main project.

"MS Project"

What do you like best?

well It keeps you really organized when you have a super large project to manager that I really like. I didn't use it much prior to this position and kind of wish I did i would not have had such a large learnign curve.

What do you dislike?

its clunky and if you ever have to print it out (which I have had to ) it doesn't print well - I am not sure how to fix this when bid specifically asks for a printed copy. when you have a deadline you don't always have the time to research this and it would be helpful if there was a quick answer rather than having to search all over the place as I did on my last bid.

Recommendations to others considering the product

make it less clunky - it can be tough to navigate around. once you take the time to learn its ok but it does take some time. when you are under a deadline its really rough to learn it so you have to rely on youtube and your staff if the skill set is there. Most of our Project Managers learned it when using it or through a cert. course.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

its usually a requirement on an RFP/RFI and of course the Program Management Department uses it. so you have to learn how to use it when its a requirement. You cannot really get around it - it can be a big hassle but its a necessary one.

"The best for team performance Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management?"

What do you like best?

this software allows you to perform Project AP that provides you with templates and shortens the time you spend putting things in their place. You can focus on the depth of the information you are sending instead of throwing something together and it does not appear to be professional and the information is lost. On the other hand, it allows you to invite a team to the project to the project you are doing. This is very useful when delegating functions and information and having the staff work as a team in different components of a project.

What do you dislike?

It is somewhat limited and can cause headaches. Since it does not possess what you are asked to proportion. When bringing new team members, it is safe to give them a preview of the software to make sure they can use the product and keep up with the project. On the other hand, the cost of this license is quite expensive and this may result in small and medium-sized companies not being able to afford it.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It would be quite useful if the license cost prices were lowered since that would increase sales, it would be more pupular among the companies and this would make the application much more popular

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

With the time and enough project you can create certain numbers of drafts of some projects already done so that you can save time and make each project faster, I can simply edit it in the image of my team faster. While using the software, I was able to see the project and show the process when it was requested.

"Not yet there for agile project management"

What do you like best?

The fact that it is online and accessible from anywhere on the internet when you are an O365 member. They added Agile and Kanban features to the desktop client.

What do you dislike?

Can't be simple to manage project using MS Project. If you want to be agile and spend as less time as possible managing the tasklist, It is still not what it should be. very few integrations. In fact, the desktop client has not evolved since a long time. I am mostly using the PWA version because it has more up to date features and allows more integration with other softwares.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Give it some time and the agile techniques should be there soon. In the menatime, can'T hurt to manage your small projects with an Excel spreadsheet. Keep it lean!

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We use it for team projects and for timesheets. We need a central projects management platform so we know who's wokring on what and where is our capacity spent. We are not yet planning for capacity, but we will get there some day. .. hopefully.

What do you dislike?

Project can be hard to navigate at first there something for everyone so it has to take the time to sit down and think everything through first before engaging it.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Look online for friendly ways to use this software there are lots of tutorials and classes you can take to better help your understanding of it. I enjoy using project because it allows me to show my clients what is really going on and if we are on track or behind schedule.

"An excellent experience with Project, the best management of the elements that interact in a project"

What do you like best?

Microsoft Project presents many tools that facilitate the management of the processes of a project, from the area of personnel, financial and time, you can easily identify the critical path, the overload of human resources, among other things.

The tools are in accordance with the points made by the PMI and the PMBOK

What do you dislike?

Microsoft project does not come in the standard office package, it must be purchased separately he process of printing the reports, the project charter and the gantt chart is cumbersome,

It is difficult to manage for new users, you must have a conceptual basis on project management so that the learning process is simple.

Project does not work on other platforms, it's a product designed for Windows.

It does not present qualitative measurement options for the performance of people and machinery

Recommendations to others considering the product

Microsoft Project is above other packages linked to project management, compete hard with other software like Planner, Primavera and others, but the support provided by Microsoft puts it in the first place of consumer choice in windows environment.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Personally, the tool has allowed me to save a lot of time and financial resources, since I have been able to detect critical points and bottlenecks that I had not seen before.

This program facilitated me the performance within the management of my research project and since 2006 I consider it one of the fundamental tools that support my work within the field of infrastructure project management, geographical sciences and others.

"Great for managing multiple projects timeline, not very flexible to make chart presentable"

What do you like best?

Ability to adjust timeline of multiple tasks when adjusting one can affect another. You can either manually schedule the tasks, or you can select to have MS Project automatically schedule the tasks based on the task data you input. You can adjust start-finish timeline of the following tasks when the predecessor task finish time changes. MS Project also shows the final project timeline in a nice gantt chart for you to have an overview of the whole project. The % progress bar is also an option, which makes it easy to visualize the progress of the project. I also like the ability to add subprojects and linking projects, making it easier to see how one change impacts another in a different project. Reporting tab also gives out a nice pie chart or bar chart to show project progress.

What do you dislike?

The visualisation of the chart. There are not many choices of nice icons to use. Adjusting fonts and sizes of the chart is quite difficult or not very flexible. The row height is also not easy to get it the the right height for my usage, unlike using MS Excel. The icons are quite small to see on the screen or on paper. All in all, I find it challenging in trying to make the gantt chart looks more presentable in a meeting room because the icons and texts are usually too small.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Might need to combine with other software like Tableau, MS Powerpoint to make a better presenation

"Works well for basic project & portfolio management needs"

What do you like best?

MS Project & Portfolio Management works well for simple and basic scheduling and project/portfolio management needs. The software is intuitive and user-friendly. There are resources readily available when assistance is needed. The forecasting and budgeting features are sufficient for my needs.

What do you dislike?

MS Project & Portfolio Management does not work well for more complex or intricate scheduling needs. There are many limitations in terms of resourcing (loading and leveling). It appears that the software tries to make assumptions for the user at times, which are not always accurate.

Recommendations to others considering the product

MS Project & Portfolio Management is an inexpensive way to satisfy your basic scheduling and management needs. The software is user-friendly and easy to use. However, there are limitations when attempting to use the software for more complex scheduling needs.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

"Project Management with Project"

What do you like best?

Project allows you to manage the project from start to finish in an easy and simple way, it is possible to see activities completed and at what point the activities are in conclusion. The Gantt chart lets you visualize how activities or tasks relate to their predecessors.

Another facility brought by the project is the management of costs and deadlines, this allows the project manager to have a better idea of where to apply their available resources.

What do you dislike?

Although Project is a very good system it still lacks a few things to make it fully complete as an activity alerts system, for example, two activities that start together need more attention by the manager or the person in charge. There is also a lack of integration with the web.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I recommend to those who already have experience with project management and need a complete tool to have better control of tasks, deadlines, costs and resources. Great system for managing large projects.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I already reseolvi some problems with the project, once I had to develop a web application for transport management and the project was very helpful in managing activities, tasks, costs and deadlines. It was useful to manage the project and allowed me a clear view of the project's risks. At that time I felt a lack of power to manage this project via the web, but it was still great for my project.

"Excellent for timelines & long-term planning"

What do you like best?

I liked how it would auto-create dates & would allow you to customize if weekends/holidays/other non-working days were included. It would alert you if there were conflicts for scheduling. I liked how easy it flowed & how easy it was to ad sub-categories

What do you dislike?

I didn't like (or didn't understand) how certain dates would auto-calculate and when you tried to override them, they'd affect the entire project. It was difficult to figure out a work-around, especially when there were a lot of steps involved.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I would definitely recommend taking the class to understand this software. It's very extensive and takes time to learn & train. Worth the time if you really want to use this project. Most companies will reimburse you for the class. The local community colleges that I checked out charged under $50 for the class itself.

"Buena herramienta para Gestion de Proyectos"

What do you like best?

What do you dislike?

Recommendations to others considering the product

Si tienes proyectos de amplia embergadura o estan trabajan con la gestion de proyectos y tareas , esta es la herramienta correcta , solo deben tener un maquina potente para que tengan todas sus prestaciones al dia.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

What do you like best?

MSProject has all the tools for project management. One of the best things that exists in it is how activities can be organized. It can manage project costs, both services and materials. It has tremendous ease when it comes to managing deadlines.

What do you dislike?

MSproject is an excellent tool, but it's not free. Additionally activities with less than 100% completion do not display their percentage completion.

"GREAT FOR PROJECT MANAGEMENT"

What do you like best?

There are certain features of the software that makes it most desirable for me is I can customize and make the project schedule as detailed I want including allocating the resources and task, sub task and critical tasks. Or I can make it as simple as needed with just dates and tasks.

What do you dislike?

- The cost of the product license which limits the number of team resources that can have access to the project.

-The software needs little bit of training before using so its hard for everybody to use and follow.

"Microsoft Project - honest review"

What do you like best?

Microsoft project is the tried and true project management staple in the construction industry. It is complete and easily configured to each individual project. The ability to load labor hours and costs make it an invaluable resource for any general contractor.

What do you dislike?

The software is being scaled back in its use by public entities. Microsoft Project fails to provide usable updates to the platform. The online version is not as configurable as the stand alone software. The other drawback to this software is finding the error in a 500+ line project schedule. There is no way to quickly locate errors.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I would highly recommend this software. The ease of use and the ability to configure the software to each individual project makes it valuable. I would purchase the stand alone software, rather than using the online version.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I am able to produce project schedules rather quickly with built in templates and can merge templates with past project files seamlessly. "Great for Managing very complex projects"

What do you like best?

Ability to link several tasks together and the very easy ability to see what the impact is to downstream when one task slips.

I enjoy the ability to create a WBS in excel and easily import them into Project.

I also enjoy that I can create a template for a project and only update the dates and have a complete schedule.

What do you dislike?

"Quick set up! Functional"

What do you like best?

It is quick and easy to set up. The hardest part is getting it up to the cloud for sharing it. The layout is good!

What do you dislike?

The sharing can be tricky. It took me a bit to get used to the interface but that is to be expected with any new software you are using. The front end could be cleaned up a bit bit the over all look and symbols. Would be nice if file sharing and collaboration was included like some of the other options out there. Would be really nice if they rolled out a true MS Project app for the ipad / iphone / android systems. Only a third party one is available and we don't feel comfortable connecting our information to a third party vendor.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you are looking for something more on the simple side without the collaboration then this is easy to use. If you want to get into collaboration and file sharing etc. then you need to buy more add-ons or use a different vendor. We used this because we are already using many other office products including dynamics 365.

"Best tool for Project Planning"

What do you like best?

You can download and use different types of ready to use templates, which will make your work easy.

You can create different types of charts like cliental or organize paper work.

Reporting feature is great and it has option to export to different format. You can customize the look and feel as per your choice.

What do you dislike?

All good, but there are some things which I don't like:

1) Cursor issue typing in the notes field and project does its periodic write to disk, the cursor re-homes to the top left of the field, and it is causing to stop, re-position the cursor, and continue typing.

2) Hard to share the project files with those who do not have a project license. It has option to export to PDF, but if you have lengthy plan, then it do not align properly.

"Microsoft Project "

What do you like best?

It comes with a lot of functionalities that are useful for Project Management. The most common and straight-forward ones are critical path schedules. You can easily assign resources to each schedule and represent the flow in Gantt chart format.

I also like how you can "classify" users based on different access levels, so that users will be limited to their specific role when accessing the project plan.

What do you dislike?

It is getting old - there are a lot of other project management tools that are cloud based and offers easier means to collaborate between project managers, whereas the standard desktop application are not the most ideal solution. With more agile type of software development cycles, Microsoft Project does not offer collaboration in real time, which makes Jira, and Trello more intuitive to use.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you are an old-school PMI type of project manager, you know all the good things about Microsoft Project. Yet recent project managers I've worked with use all types of different tools to track project progress - including but not limited to: Microsoft Excel, Jira, Financial Force and Trello. Choose to use MSProject for the right complexity and you will get to experience the most benefit.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I typically use Microsoft Project to create project plans and track critical path schedules with resource allocations. For a big integration project for example, Microsoft Project can be expanded to different categories to track parallel work between different third party vendors. If there is a delay on one of the dependencies, a simple update will push back the timing automatically for everyone to see.

"Useful for managing projects, but gets less "love" from Microsoft than other Office products"

What do you like best?

The tool automatically adjusts dependencies and timings as you move items around. It is very quick and perfectly accurate. There is a bit of a learning curve to get the dates to set correctly, but once done, it is a very easy tool to make small adjustments to and see how it affects the schedule.

What do you dislike?

The program on a whole is not very intuitive. There is a steep learning curve to getting timings set correctly. Setting up a new template is very time consuming and it is a bit difficult to copy information in from Excel. There are little quirks to the program, such as the fact that you have to set up auto scheduling every time you launch the program and, if you don't do it in the correct way, you may have to reset it on every single item. There is no easy way to convert timings for pasted data, so you have to have the data in the exact right format before copying in.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

All of our PMO teams use project to manage the schedules for their projects. Some use the resource planning tools, others just use it to track dependencies.

"Good for creating and managing project timelines"

What do you like best?

It is a really good software to create and manage any scale project. It has a good user interface and it is easy to setup a project timeline in minutes.

I took hardly 1 hour to learn the basics of the software and had my first timeline ready.

It is also easy to go back and make changes which can be reflected throughout the project.

It is good to mark the milestones in the project and check them off after they are achieved. It does give a feeling of fullfillment.

What do you dislike?

I do not like how the timelines show up and it is difficult to take a good screen shot of the same.

microsoft project is not for beginners. one could easily make a task list or gantt chart, but to unleash the full value of the software, you require a knowledge of the process and to be able to progressively elaborate on the project file. i have had many instances where tasks would not show as i wanted them too and i could not figure out the cause of it. Version control can be an issue if you are doing situational analysis and dont want to write over the original file.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Take a class. it is a powerful tool, but hard to learn if you dont have a good reason.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I am an Project manager for pharma and tech companies. this is the best tool for managing project tasks and timelines. I would like to use it more for resource allocation and portfolio management activities. the benefits are that you can more closely manage the project timeline, budget, deliverables, and scope than without it.

"Great Way to Plan Forward"

What do you like best?

MS Project has an abundance of tools to use for projects. It can support a wide variety of project management styles and practices. The auto scheduling feature is great for forward scheduling and get a project done as soon as possible.

What do you dislike?

The amount of tools, although great can be cumbersome. It requires a lot of time an effort to learn the product to use to it's full potential.

Recommendations to others considering the product

This can be used as a basic scheduling tool, but has potential to be use very intricately. Be prepared to attend training and classes to be able to fully understand the capabilities of this software.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The biggest benefit is the forward scheduling ability. It helps drive a schedule earlier, instead of planning closer to deadlines.

"Microsift Project"

What do you like best?

Fairly easy to use once you get your head around it, Integrates with file explorer and outlook. Serves as one place to share most of my documents with multiple team in various forms and sizes.

What do you dislike?

Not the most user friendly at times. Some of the setup side can be very time consuming. Some of the advanced options are complex and cumbersome an example is resource leveling. Formatting the header to accommodate various icons or logos is not easy either.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I would look at other options, as I am at the moment, due to Project not being the most user friendly tool

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Scheduling work tasks in a format that can be seen by other team members. Its easy to import and export data to and from collegues

"A pillar tool for projects"

What do you like best?

Anytime a project started in all organizations I've been part of, Microsoft Project is that tool that appears all the time, not because people just love Microsoft products. It's because is a tool that have been improving as the projects methodologies have been doing too. An adaptative and eficient tool.

What do you dislike?

Project's versioning are not always easy to follow with Microsoft Project, you need to adjust your own workflow to make this possible. Once that be done, everything goes well.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Before start using this tool I really recommend get the corresponding training from a Project Manager and familiarize with all new terms you will start using from now on.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Control over all the stages of projects I'm involved on. You only need few minutes reading a project on this tool to understand where are you and your fellow workers. Which groups or tasks need get more focus.

"Microsoft Project Professional 2016 "

What do you like best?

My favorite features of Microsoft Project Professional 2016:

- intuitive interface and easy to understand program management tasks and teams;

- quick calculation and analysis of data, enter formulas similar to Excel;

- the versatility of the product allows you to tailor functionality to each project.

- the ability to purchase ready-made solutions through the Microsoft ISV Royalty.

What do you dislike?

I don't like Microsoft Project Professional 2016:

To simplify the development and use of the API by giving more information.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I recommend the program to others for a good allocation of resources and tasks, and improve efficiency.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Project management and conduct the proper allocation of resources and tasks, monitor progress and optimize work.

Allows you to increase efficiency and gain full control over the implementation of projects.

"Project is a Power Project Management Tool"

What do you like best?

Project is very good for visualizing the scope of a project. Like all of the programs in the Microsoft Office suite, it can be used to whatever complexity the user is capable of. It can be used to plan a simple timeline such as a vacation schedule (though Project would be overkill for this application), or it can be used to plan multi-year, multi-million dollar capital expenditure projects.

What do you dislike?

Some of the custom tools (such as setting a custom calendar and workday) can be hard to edit.

Project can be used to track resource usage, but this can be time consuming, and the tracking is only as good as the input data. Resources must be tracked very closely to accurately use this feature.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Watch tutorials on YouTube to get up to speed when first using Project. Some of the features are not intuitive, so it can be helpful to have someone explain what does what.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I use Project to plan the entire implementation of complex, mutli-disciplinary capital expenditures. It is easy to visualize which tasks need to be completed and in what order.

"Powerful but barely relevant in an Agile world"

What do you like best?

I like using Project to lay out an overall plan with high level tasks and blocks of time. It's also good for showing management a high level plan.

What do you dislike?

With great power comes great complication. Sometimes it takes a while to figure out how to accomplish something.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you are doing software development, I would recommend that you use tools that support a more Agile approach. Software development is not linear, and people spend more time updating schedules like these than they do completing work.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I've never used Portfolio Management...

but Project is a scheduling tool. I only use it now when management wants a Gant chart. All of our real development is done in an Agile method with tasks being done when it makes sense.

"Easily managed program"

What do you like best?

Managing budgets for multiple projects is much easier than having multiple files. Being able to assign tasks to certain groups or individuals allows everyone to know their role and know what other tasks they have on their "to-do list". This program makes projects a little less stressful, as the previous way made it difficult to collaborate remotely - everyone had to meet in a specified location at a specified time to collaborate.

What do you dislike?

That is is separate from standard Microsoft Office. I would like to see this included on future versions of Office, and possibly even be considered standard on business and student versions of the product.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Very nice to keep track of multiple projects that have many steps/tasks of which to keep track. It is easily to collaborate with colleagues, keep track of different versions of documents, create project to-do lists and more. Someone familiar with other Microsoft office programs will be able to navigate the program fairly easily, but those with little computer experience will have a little bit of difficulty. I did not run into any issues that needed support, and had the time to "play" with the program with a faux project to test out the features of what may be needed for the type of projects we typically have.

Managing budgets becomes easy to share across the department for multiple users to work together on projects through collaboration. Being able to collaborate without breaking schedules to make a meeting time is beneficial. Budgeting is important to any project, but more so when the project is for a grant and meeting specific spending is imperative to funders.

"Microsoft Project has no equal"

What do you like best?

The greatest thing about Microsoft Project is the integration with other systems. One such integration is with Microsoft's Team Foundation Server. The Holy Grail to me is managing a project portfolio for the enterprise, making the best selections by visualizing IRR, strategic alignment, and access to capital, then executing the project with status rolling up to the executive team from progress tracked in SharePoint, Outlook, TFS, Excel, and other tools.

What do you dislike?

MS Project is intimidating and frustrating to many. Its feature-set is both a strength, because it delivers awesome capabilities, and a weakness, because there is so much to learn. As the product continues to evolve, Microsoft has made efforts to shield the user of complexity unless they go looking for it. Most MS Project files I have seen are simple hierarchical lists of to-do items. It is simple to use that way.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you are in it for the long haul, invest in Microsoft's productivity platform, including MS Project. No company brings it all together like Microsoft. They do not always achieve their lofty goals, but they get closer and closer.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

There is a certain threshold of project complexity that generally must be reached before I open Project. Detailing out the tasks, dependencies and resources invariable provides a better handle on what to expect.

"Great project management software with lots of features"

What do you like best?

It organizes tasks and schedules them accordingly so that they can happen sequentially or simultaneously. Knowing that the software is created by Microsoft, it will continually be improved with new features which make it much more valuable to our company.

What do you dislike?

Sometimes it could be hard to find the option that I'm looking for.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It allows me to schedule projects within our department. Previously, our IS department was running with an informal management styles for our projects. We used MS Excel to track the information, but Excel will only get you so far. MS Project really helped us organize our tasks, assign to resources and it fully meets our needs.

"Microsoft PPM, the conveyor of an idea into a product "

What do you like best?

Microsoft project center is a one stop shop. The best part of the Microsoft PPM tool is it is part of the office 365. Every project opportunity is captured in the project request list. Here the most important parts are the Estimated benefits and estimated cost. This helps the finance department to take a decision to provide approval for an proposal. The beauty of the project center is there are separate views can be built for individual responsible people from the product owner till the developer.

What do you dislike?

The difficulties I faced while I used is, may times it freezes the screen. If you are planning to use the online version then make sure you do not have other applications consuming the computer hardware.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It would be very helpful if Microsoft PPM includes a place where we can add the risks for a particular task. This will give us more benefits to track the risks on the project dashboard. Either I don’t know or it is not there.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We delivered a project in 10 weeks and that was the deadline we had. Initially we started with normal excel files. The problem we had that we did not have enough visibility of the resource utilisations and the progress of the project. Due to lack of funding we removed two high cost resources. After the 4th week, the organisation introduced the Microsoft PPM and we realised that we are far behind the project completion. We realised this due to the Gantt Chart. We also did not have a tool to enter risks on the project. We used share point to capture that and also added in the project to cover that at a particular timeline. This helped us a lot to deliver the project on time.

"Microsoft Project Management Tool"

What do you like best?

There are countless project management tools nowadays.

Yet, MS Project appears to be the wise choice for 2017; being that most of us of are highly dependant on MS Office, Project allows us to share to easily integrate data from Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint & access to keep your teams up-to-speed & to keep the lines of communication open.

The collaboration aspect is extremely helpful for the fact that we can spend less time in meetings & more time focused on the "work" & getting the customer taken care of.

What do you dislike?

I wish that MS Project had cloud options, so I/we could access our work from any web browser (Word, Excel, PowerPoint all have easily accessible cloud options, this needs to be also offered for MS Project & Portfolio Management).

Recommendations to others considering the product

Countless options for project management; but as a PMP, there is going to be nothing that will serve you like Microsoft Project & Portfolio Management.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

As any of our teams tackle projects, MS Project is used to assist in managing the workflow.

At the same time, we use the dashboard tool to ensure that the groups are aware of everyone's progres.

To help hold the team accountable/productive, It is an essential tool

"Not a fan"

What do you like best?

When there are dependencies between tasks, the dates automatically shift when an adjustment is made to the timeline. I like that you can can assign someone to be accountable for each task and you can indicate the status of the task in terms of completion.

What do you dislike?

It takes a really long time to get set up and you need to know everything about the project timeline before you start inputting. It's not a tool to use when there are lots of adjustments and you use it to set up an initial plan where no concrete dates, durations, etc. are known. It's really hard to share with others who don't have Project - exporting to Excel is more administrating. Keeping Project up to date is very manual and time intensive. I usually abandon my Project files mid way into the planning phase.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Look to other tools to manage projects. MS Projects is straightforward to input tasks, etc, but I have never used it through to the end of the project because the administrative work to keep it updated was another full time job.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Creating a project plan that can be shared - it would be better if it didn't need to be extracted to excel in order for non project users to be able to review the plan.

"Great tool in uniting multiple teams on a project"

What do you like best?

The software was very easy to use in terms of the interface. My main role with the software involved inputting metrics and gathering information. As our projects were multifaceted, the software allowed me to marry both the technical side of a project with the financial side. The UI was very robust and allowed for multiple ways to output data for reporting purposes.

What do you dislike?

There was a slight learning curve in the beginning as we brought multiple teams and clients up to speed following our transition to Microsoft Project & Portfolio from our legacy system we used internally.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It’s worth the slight learning curve to bring teams up to speed on its use and capabilities. From my understanding it can be a bit costly (Again, my viewpoint is that of a user of the software). It was certainly worth the added benefit of a more seamless tracking and reporting. I used the software both between technical teams, accounting teams, and end clients. I would recommend it certainly for a larger company with multiple steakholders.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

With teams growing and expanding more globally, the software has been easy to implement across varied levels and languages. It was very helpful to have real time updates accross a project. For example if we were working a project partially in the United States and Partially in the Ukraine both teams benefited from easy data entry and updates to more accurate reporting.

"Easy Project Management tool which makes project management so simple"

What do you like best?

Endless tools which give me the flexibility to plan, execute and document all aspects of my management.

Great visualization, simple learning curve and gets work done with minimal efforts if you are a Microsoft product user.

What do you dislike?

For any tool that I use, I look into the UI factor. Though Microsoft keeps it similar for all the software it produces, I guess Project requires special attention and a little variation. There are a lot of crucial features that may be missed out/ are not apparent and may be discovered quite late by a new user. I hope Microsoft works on improving these features and make Project a little more vibrant and friendlier.

Also, printing out your plans as a part of the report is a pain. lots of adjustment are required.

If it is not too much to ask, can there be an integration done with Issue tracking tools like JIRA, ServiceNow etc?

Recommendations to others considering the product

Project Professional is definitely a great tool. Although there are a lot of online tools and software available, none give as many features as Project gives. Of course, that comes at a price which is quite high. Now, my experience with other tools tells me that Project is a quite rich in terms of capabilities. So I would recommend Project if you definitely want to use all such features. If a tradeoff can be made Project can be quite expensive a license.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I was working on my course projects and used Project during planning and execution till delivery for at least 3 projects.

Quick planning, Progress chart and Gantt charts were superb

"Even Used MS Project To Plan My Wedding"

What do you like best?

MS Project is very useful when managing large scale/complex projects, especially when connecting tasks, identifying constraints, and analyze schedule changes.

What do you dislike?

The price for MS Project is quite hefty for smaller sites. There are other software out there that can virtually do the same thing for a much lower price. Also, my company does not use Skype or Office 365 (all software is downloaded locally) so we do not have the benefit of the integration, making collaboration a little tough.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Simplify the reporting capabilities including printing format and dashboard integration. Also, it would be great to create a "what if" scenario screen (almost a beta) where we can simulate other conditions rather than creating a new project. It would be great to be able to see an overlay of how these changes in conditions affect schedule and constraints.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

MS Project is mainly used to visually represent constraints in our timeline as conditions change. We also use it to simulate scenarios to project schedules when evaluating risks of delayed delivery or if constraints were removed.

"Project schedules are key to accurate estimates"

What do you like best?

I like the Gant chart feature. The Gant chart, when used at a site meeting with an Owner really visually conveys the reality of the project by showing the entire timeline and not just a segment in a calendar view.

What do you dislike?

Its price is a bit steep. Our company doesn't provide Project to all employees and some balk at the price which means not all of our people are using it.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I can only speak as it relates to construction. Once the time investment is made in learning how to use the software it is a great tool. Large schedules are great visual aids if you have a large format printer.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Having a tool where you can show the flow of an entire project from a high level is critical. Being able to assign relationships to the tasks, show resources and split tasks are all useful even for a construction company. We don't use a lot of the features but it is still a crucial element of my toolbox.

It's so far one of the best tool to develop my and my clients' business. From organizing the project tasks to estimate the time frame of the project, it is a must have tool by far. We mainly use the Chinese version and it's awesome.

What do you dislike?

The features can be too complicated to people who don't have a computer degree and it can be hard to navigate. Sometimes it can get quite frustrating and complex when problem happens and took a long time to fix.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Similar to all other microsoft products, PPM is a fascinating tool. But I really wish it can be more user friendly so everyone, and I hope one day I will not need to spend hours to train people about using PPM.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

"MS Project"

What do you like best?

Great flexibility in work with data entries and combination of various views. Very powerfull analysys capabilities along with rich reports.

What do you dislike?

Collaboration. In the 21st century MS Project still lacks and stay behind in a real-time sharing and collaborating tools.Team Foundation Server should not be the only way for collaboration or MS Project Server... There are a few hacks to override TFS limitation (legit ones) so you may collaborate with multiple users, but it will cost you considerable disk space on your machine overall.

Recommendations to others considering the product

"Excellent product for start-ups"

What do you like best?

As a small tech start-up, there are always 1001 tasks that need to be addressed. With the focus on growing and making money, it's easy to lose track of important tasks. MS Project is a solution with the "familiar" Office look and feel that better helps you track those tasks and keeps you on point.

What do you dislike?

Honestly, there isn't anything that I dislike about the product. Keep in mind that we aren't running huge projects with a massive number of parallel tasks that need to be managed. I suspect that if you were trying to build and launch a spacecraft, you may need a more robust project management tool. For us, there are more than enough features to handle what we do. The standard MS Office look makes the learning curve quite easy.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I can't speak for anyone managing huge projects and I'm not a certified PM, but this is a solid tool for managing projects. I'm sure it would easily take care of larger ones than we have, but as a start up, it's more than adequate.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

For us, we are juggling a number of clients with specific software needs. We are also making our core software more robust and that requires that we manage and prioritize our daily tasks. Having a product that visually shows what needs to be done and when is beneficial for keeping us on track.

What do you dislike?

How, if you have percentage complete filled in at all and have to move things around, shorten durations, etc., the dates won't adjust automatically. "Project Planning Made Simple"

What do you like best?

With most of my clients using Microsoft products to run their businesses, Project make collaborating with them on projects simple and seamless.

What do you dislike?

While it isn't really a dislike, I would have to say the most frustrating thing is that it is proprietarily Microsoft. So, if I have a client that functions on Google apps, Project doesn't get it done.

Recommendations to others considering the product

"Excellent Piece of Software"

What do you like best?

Microsoft Project has some amazing features when it comes to planning and tracking a project. From empowering your team to selecting the appropriate resources and meeting crucial deadlines, Project offers more intuitive experiences to ensure you remain productive and achieve amazing results.

What do you dislike?

User experience, takes time to adapt to SW, Print results can be hard to predict, would like to be able to select areas of schedule in window to "print selection.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I've been using Project for a few years and i'm currently on Project 2016. It is relatively uncomplicated to enter task information and link tasks to others so updates can be made to a task that affects future scheduled events, and to tie data such as personnel to various tasks. There are a number of formats to display information. One issue I have is that it can take several trials to get a print version of a schedule that meets one's hardcopy handout needs, but overall I have been pleased with the results.

"Holistic Project Management Software"

What do you like best?

The software does a phenomenal job of helping teams visualize their progress on projects. It also holds individuals on teams accountable for their work while helping user explore various different options for completing a project. MP also can accommodate companies of various different sizes.

What do you dislike?

There is a bit of a learning curve when getting started with the software. More particularly, there were several instances in which our team found specific features un-intuitive and unnatural; this took some getting used to. Additionally, price can definitely be a barrier to entry for individuals looking into PM software.

Recommendations to others considering the product

In my experience, this software is most effectively implemented in larger group settings. It becomes pretty unnecessary if your team is working in a more intimate setting. Additionally, smaller teams might just waste time adjusting to the extensive nature of the product.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I'm currently working on a team of 25. Managing schedules cross-functionally is nearly impossible and we are consistently working against deadlines. MP has helped organize our team's different functions/deadlines and help's each individual be held accountable while working seamlessly in a team environment.

"Excellent tool for planning"

What do you like best?

I liked the ability to be able to visualize when things would be started and completed, seeing the possible paths we could take, and considering alternatives.

What do you dislike?

I did not like that there were some features missing that would have improved the product. It is excellent that it is user friendly, but I would have appreciated some more options such as adding cost as a factor into time. If one option is more costly, but faster, is it better?

Recommendations to others considering the product

Excellent if you are looking to determine scheduling. For best cost solutions, other products may be more appropriate.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I was trying to plan for a future implementation of a project. The program allowed me to plan the steps, and how long they would take to complete. It allowed me to determine which path and options to take when going through with the implementation, and allowed me to confidently forecast the time it would take.

"A comprehensive project management solution "

What do you like best?

It is highly scalable; anyone from a small company to the largest enterprise can use Microsoft Project. The Scheduling feature is key, allowing managers to define tasks, assign to different team members, and track their progress. We like the new web-based version although we have not yet had the opportunity to fully implement it with mobile devices. The new 2016 version did not require any new training for our users that were used to the 2013 version. Collaborative planning, base lining, and workflow analysis are terrific!

What do you dislike?

There are still several features that have been difficult and counter-intuitive in past versions and they remain unaddressed. It can be a little overwhelming for new users. It is pricey, but worth it, in my opinion.

Recommendations to others considering the product

For some small projects, other software might be more appropriate. But everyone should at least consider Microsoft Project when choosing Project Management software.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It has helped us to tame highly complex project schedules, especially those that have very dynamic and unpredictable schedules.

"Good ,but not the best"

What do you like best?

I have used MS Project and Primavera.MS Porject is a lot simpler if you just using activity schedule, resource list, and assignment details. Its easy defining complex formulas and assign the values to user-created column.Overall MS Project is good for someone who isn't doing project management all the time.Easier to learn.

What do you dislike?

There is a limit on baselines that you can create ,when compared with Primavera.MS Project has limitations since its not meant for multiple project use.Had difficulty using it for WBS comparisons, cost and unit calculations.Overall Primavera looks more professional compared to MS Project. The client wants it most of the time.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Easy to learn and use.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

My company is an EPC contractor. We do design , engineering and commissioning with focus on Oil & Gas. We use MS Project for internal use,but Primavera is preferred by clients, due to its functionality. MS Project has been easier to use and understand for many of us who don't use it all the time. We use it to allocate manpower, track contractors, and give reports to clients , managers. This gives us a rough idea of project completion time, identify internal issues and monitor contractors.

"Excellent Project Management Tool"

What do you like best?

Microsoft Project is a fully-featured project management program that enables you to manage all aspects of your projects, big or small. It's always been my go-to for gnatt chart development (and maintenance).

Microsoft's interface (ribbon) certainly helps provide you with quick and easy access to the most common elements of the program.

Defining precise tasks, connecting them with related tasks and phases is pretty simple.

Reporting is a tremendous asset. There is a lot of customizing you can do to make reports and gnatt charts look very professional.

What do you dislike?

As Project 2013 is fairly complex, there can be a pretty steep learning curve. While there are sufficient training videos out there for self-learners, using this software professionally may require some professional training so you can get the most out of your time using Project.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I'm not quite sure which direction Microsoft Project will take in a world where start ups are offering simple to use tools for things like website creation (think pagecloud), and other project management software (smartsheet, mavenlink, basecamp). What Microsoft does have going for it is its seamless integration with their Office Suite, and it does a very good job at managing projects in the old fashioned Windows way.

Microsoft does not provide personal customer service support like other platforms do, at least in my experience. Quality of Support is primarily driven through community forums, videos and colleague assistance. I think this is something that MS could do better.

Lastly, cost is a big disadvantage for small businesses and start ups. It's almost a non-starter. Especially when there's other options offering small monthly subscriptions (which MS now does) and might dig deeper in collaboration tools, which MS Project fails to do.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Time and resource management. While it can also help track budgeting, which we use Sage 100 for, we primarily found it useful for keeping track of tasks and reporting the progress to clients. The reporting, as I mentioned earlier, certainly helps provide further value for clients!

"Microsoft Project is perfect for budgeting!"

What do you like best?

We use Project for our budgeting and projections. I really like the timeline and the ability to fill out the vendors we work with and refer back to previous years to get a better conceptual understanding of what to budget the next fiscal year. This also allows me to track where we are every month so I know whether or not we need to cut or expend more money the following months to stay on track for the year.

What do you dislike?

It's like a more advanced Excel. It takes a while to learn and is more manual than it is automatic. It has a lot of tools to help with this but you still have to learn them.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Use this tool if you need a good budgeting tool with a lot of extra tools and the ability to go completely manual and create what you need to do for your budget needs without being restricted.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We use this specifically for our yearly budgets and we benefit from this by capitalizing on trends and forecast in order to provide exact, detailed justifications for our managers.

"Microsoft Project - Swift and direct"

What do you like best?

While it's not the easiest software to learn as some of the features of it require detailed inputting, it's very reliable and becomes easier to use with practice

What do you dislike?

I dislike that some of the features require detailed inputting to make things work. This is not the kind of software to just get in and get something out real quick.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Take your time practicing, it'll make it a lot smoother to use. Also, if taking over someone else's file, don't be afraid to just start from scratch.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We use it exclusively to create and maintain detailed schedules for all of our projects

"Microsoft Project is a decent tool for managing and tracking programs/projects."

What do you like best?

Microsoft Project is a good collaboration tool that allows multiple users involved in a common program/project to track & monitor timelines, progress, responsibilities, etc. I can be used to ensure smooth transition between responsible managers/stakeholders. It provides an abundance of tools to customize the project as well.

What do you dislike?

While Microsoft Project is a great tool for organizing the whole project and team, it is a complicated tool to implement and use. I can become a full time job to manage the program/project using Project. You may need to assign a member of your staff as a full time Microsoft Project Manager just to implement and utilize the functionality resident within the tool.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you are going to utilize Microsoft Project, I would recommend taking some advanced training from a Microsoft professional trainer to learn the ins-and-outs of the system before trying to implement the software to ensure that you are proficient with all of the tools available. This will help avoid the frustration of trying to learn the hard way - through trial and error.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We use Microsoft Project to track milestones, timelines, assign resources and fulfill resource management and resource capacity planning to ensure that the resources assigned to the project were sufficient, well utilized, and productive. We also used Project to produce Gantt charts to provide visual reference of the project timelines and milestones.

"Greta platform to manage timelines"

What do you like best?

Microsoft PPM is a great place to manage timelines and get an overall handle over your project. The built in features are pretty handy and there are multiple ways to analyze and view your project to get some insights on your project from different angles. Also, it is robust to handle large amounts of data which is always helpful. There are different windows that can be cascaded to get a better insight into how projects are progressing and what can be done to understand bottle necks, issues, and how certain issues can be addressed before they become bigger-problems.

What do you dislike?

The navigation is not that simple and can take some time to get used to. It can also take some time to share and collaborate over this software with your colleagues. But other than that, not many issues with this program, in general.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Feel free to try it and I am sure after some time playing around with the built in features, there will be some thing or other about this program that you will find useful in your project management.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Better handle on project timelines and overall project management. The software and program is very useful once you understand all the built in features and have a grasp over its capabilities. It has helped me get a better handle on my project timelines and that has been pretty helpful, especially to get a high-level view of a project.

"MS Project is alright"

What do you like best?

The best part about MS project is being able to visually plan out a project so all the tasks are transparent.

What do you dislike?

The costing and resource feature seems redundant as there are many other softwares most companies use to do the cost estimating. Everywhere I've worked had their own costing spreadsheet and Project was used to determine the timing of the project and the resources needed.

Recommendations to others considering the product

The software won't manage the projects for you. The software helps communicate to the team what the project plan is and helps everyone stick too it by forcing accountability.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Planning out test schedules to meet project deadlines. It helps team members that do not have the 10,000 ft project map in their minds and helps them see the bigger picture. Otherwise they tend to gentlest in the weeds.

The tool deals with complexity in a very simple manner. While the tool has an impressively huge range of capabilities, it is relatively easy for any user to get it to do exactly what he or she needs. It is extremely intuitive and offers great balance of usability and complexity.

What do you like best?

"Regular User with Projects and other office software products"

What do you like best?

Simple yet powerful task management, with easy to use charts. Ability to create different views, visual reports, and templates. Streamlined interface to other projects, and excel. Team planner is a great view to map team with schedule and tasks. Schedule, Cost, and Effort converge into one unmatched product.

What do you dislike?

The User interface looks bulky. There are many menus and options are jam-packed. It does have features which are not simple to use. Ability to generate user-friendly graphical reports is missing. Conflicts to the schedule are not easily and readily available.

Recommendations to others considering the product

This product may not be a great one to start but for sure a very reliable one. Must plan properly on the usage of this product otherwise will be difficult to rectify.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We have a cross-functional team and multiple projects that become complicated to manage. Multiple dependencies across all projects even make it unmanageable. Hence we use the Microsoft product to streamline the operations and assist the business to have an accurate view of the overall portfolio and projects.

"Take the complex and simplify it with this tool."

What do you like best?

It is extremely intuitive and offers a good balance of usability and complexity. It is used to track projects of different sizes. I like the feature which helps to visualize task and resource scheduling. It is good at tracking milestones at a high level and for assigning resources to particular tasks. Also, a good fit if you use a waterfall model.

What do you dislike?

Due to protanopia (color-blindness) I find it difficult to distinguish among certain colors used to differentiate items. Not the best tool for Agile developments.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Take advantage of the Microsoft Academy Approved Materials for self-based learning to get a good grasp on using this application.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Project Management. Having the right tools to manage the project and provide the stakeholders with a constant, up to date, visual representation of the project.

"Highly efficient tool for Project Management"

What do you like best?

First, Microsoft Project is a powerful tool when you want more detailed aspects of project management, such as resource management, reports, and timesheets. Powerful isn't stand for an easy tool by the way.

Second, the Gantt diagram can be imported to Excel to be shared with those who do not have access to the software and who have to know the details of the project and its development.

What do you dislike?

While being powerful and thorough in many respects, Microsoft Project fits only very specific working environments.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

With Microsoft PPM, I have planned and managed both small and large projects. I have standardized more and more my processes to work effectively. It allows me to visualize the performance of my projects and resources, manage risks and identify problems.
