What do you like best?
MS Office connects most businesses together. Send an email out from Outlook and you will know the person responding has done so from his Outlook. The software just works for everyone and the work gets done too.
What do you dislike?
MS Office can be slow. Outlook can be slow even on a 16GB memory desktop/laptop. Worse on MacOS. None of the other apps I run on MacOS makes me wait for more than 1 second. MS Office makes me wait and wonder - "why only MS Outlook or Excel fails my Macbook". However, the popular fix to restart the apps makes it work slightly faster. This as we know is most infamous trick to work with MS anything.
The default row limit on an excel sheet is approximately 1.05 million rows, but has it worked well with filtering 10,000 rows with formulas in it? No. I and most like me dislike this. This is worst on MacOS.
In Outlook, I can't add a new table into the mail I'm drafting right now. I have to create my table in Excel, copy it, come back to Outlook and paste it in my email. I can't like this on MacOS!
Multicore operations in Excel is not yet a possibility on MacOS as yet. Until Nov'17 Excel task bar showed 'x% done using 1 CPU' and since then it just shows 'x% done' without any CPU core in use information. A few user groups claim MS has enable multicore processing on MacOS now. Although its slightly faster than predecessor versions, I am yet to be convinced more cores are in play.
Recommendations to others considering the product
Microsoft Office for MacOS has been there for several years however it stands still in beta-like version even today. The performance is bad when compared with MSO for Windows, not that it is great on Windows. Most of the features that are in MSO Windows, doesn't exist for MacOS. Some of basic yet highly used features are very weirdly implemented in MacOS, such as filters.
The good thing is some working version of MSO for MacOS exists and that makes businesses working on different operating systems a possibility.
What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?
MS Outlook lets me send and receive emails. It does a better job on Windows but is dying slow. Most features are missing for MacOS version, but is somewhat faster. The limited searching ability on MacOS makes job slightly difficult.
MS Excel, my favorite'st of the MS office suite, helps do so many things on a working day. Just dump all data on Excel, lookup, validate, color code it etc. Its good when the file is less than 2MB, above that it just struggles.
