"MS SQL Parallel Data"

What do you like best?

The parallel data warehouse is a massive storage appliance with exceptional speed.

The platform is all Microsoft and integrates well with all other Microsoft products and infrastructure.

Microsoft's support of the product has been outstanding.

What do you dislike?

Report Builder allows for quite a bit of customization but we found it be missing some the features that make other application like Crystal Reports so easy to use. Simple features such as moving columns within a table can be a bit frustrating. Formatting text and writing formulas (expressions) is easier in Crystal Reports.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you want a 10-40x faster due to parallel loading of data. Data loading speed is 250Gb/hr per compute node (a half rack of 4 compute nodes gives 1 TB/hour, with minimal query performance impact) then this is the right program for you

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We use it for analyze large data

"Good big data alternative to something like Hadoop, except for .NET platforms"

What do you like best?

I like the fact that the documentation system is well supported and managed, and it is easy to onboard an entire dev team on managing big data infrastructure.

What do you dislike?

I dislike that sometimes the desktop application on the PC platform is a bit sluggish to load, especially when managing large datasets such as ones with over 1 million rows of data.

Recommendations to others considering the product

This is recommended for web app as well as desktop app developers who want a solid product for managing their big data needs and analytics. However, a drawback is that the software may sometimes be sluggish in retrieving datasets.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I am building a photo sharing website and currently developing a mobile app for photo sharing as well. Am experimenting with Parallel desktop for big data purposes in case users upload a large number of photos and provide a lot of detail.

"Easy to Use .. Worth the Money"

What do you like best?

SQL Server DBMS is a great tool to manage your databases. It's real easy to use, much easier than Oracle in my mind. It's also a lot less expensive than Oracle. Notification process works well.

What do you dislike?

Not much to dislike, except if you have volumes, and volumes of data .. then it's just not as robust.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you are a mid-size company without volumes of data, then this is the tool for you. It's real easy to set up and configure and the maintenance of your servers will be seamless.
