"Mixed Results"

What do you like best?

Open Dental is seemless when it comes to instantaneous appointment or account updates across a large network. We have never had issues with appointments dissapearing or getting double booked. There are many options for how you set up an appointment and how it looks.

What do you dislike?

Their user interface could improve. Their reports are lacking and even writing your own is flawed as it is hard to integrate only the valuables that you need. Reports will often pull info in a way that isn't helpful or miss the point. The accounting set up is a mess for a large clinic. We see 20000 patients and need accurate reports and easier accounting. (For instance being able to search for a check number on the batch insurance page would be nice.) All of that being said, there are some functions (like staff scheduling) that we don't use and probably could but we don't know how well they work or not.

Recommendations to others considering the product

As a basic dental scheduling tool it is excellent. For a very large organization it is still in need of refining some of it's tools.

We run reports that give us big picture numbers. We are able to set up columns for locations and on different clinic sites and switch between them easily.

"Beneficial and Efficient"

What do you like best?

When I was using this product, I liked how anyone could update the patient’s chart from any computer with the Software and it was available right away. Also liked that it stated where patient was at all times. I would update the status from the moment the patient walked in, to the exam room and when they left the office. I was also responsible for updating any procedures the patient had done and when they would come back for checkups or follow ups, the doctor could see what was already done and any notes from the previous visit(s).

What do you dislike?

I did not like all the separent codes for billing. They had to be very specific or else the patient’s insurance would not be charged correctly. Sometimes find the procedure that was done was difficult to find because the code for it was could completely different.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It provided real time updates. It’s good for business because the patient’s chart and documents were all safely stored in this software and it’s beneficial for the office to know what was already done and what needed to be done.

"The best experience in dental practice management"

What do you like best?

Open Dental is super easy to install, and setting up integrations is automatic for the most part, with a few exceptions. The tech team there is extremely smart, and not a lot of hold time either. This software is cheaper than most of the others, and it's quality is higher. It's a no brainer. The best part, is it has a single sign-on feature for those on a Windows Domain, which makes logging in super easy.

What do you dislike?

If I had to choose something to dislike, it would be that the UI could look a little bit "slicker". A very minor detail.

The trial is very easy to install, so I suggest trying that out if you have any questions about the software.

"Open Dental Software Review (In conjunction with ECW) "

What do you like best?

Open Dental is easy to use and has a great odontogram - you can move the teeth, draw cysts/ supernumeraries, and there is a clear "tx plan, other existing, completed, and referred" designation for all treatment.

What do you dislike?

There is no obvious ledger, so when you want to find when something is completed, you do have to scroll through all the notes and manually find when a procedure is completed.

Definitely a good one to consider in a fast pace environment, minus the lack of a sufficient ledger

Open Dental is very easy to work with and so, in a fast paced environment, is great for efficiency (especially in terms of quickly looking at the odontogram to see what treatment is remaining).

"Best POS I've Ever Used"

What do you like best?

User friendly, easy to train employees on, easy to customize to meet the practice's needs.

What do you dislike?

There are sometimes things that I wish I could customize more, but typically I can find a workaround or submit a request for a future update to include my wishes.

Definitely recommend, very user friendly.

"Highly recommend this program. It can do so much."

What do you like best?

Can be customized to do pretty much anything you want. The price is awesome, too!

What do you dislike?

sometimes you have to search for a way to customize things, not as user friendly as other programs. However, if you're techy, it's not an issue.

practice management, going paperless, digital scheduling, staying on top of billing and accounts receivable, communicating with your patients via text and email.

What do you like best?

Open Dental is very customizable while keeping its learning curve very friendly.

What do you dislike?

I have no complaints about this software. I am glad I chose it and have no regrets. I would recommend Open Dental to any dentist.

"Open dental "

What do you like best?

I like the fluidity of the software. I've used Eaglesoft in the past and open dental has a much easier learning curve. Although, I wish the more advance features of the software were more transparent to the intermediate user. I like the charting system and the program overall is very easy to use.

What do you dislike?

It happens from time to time that xrays get taken in the wrong patients file. I dislike that it is not easier to transfer xrays from one patients file to another. Eaglesoft has this feature. Even the copy and paste function only works if each individual xray image is reopened. It is very tedius.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We are having problems with compatibility on windows 10. The intraoral camera no longer works and the reveal features in the xrays stopped working as well. We are trying to downgrade back to a previous operating system, but it would be nice if Open Dental would update their software to be compatible.

"easy system"

What do you like best?

the ease of movement throughout the system, their support and if there's something that we need and is not part of the system, their engineers will customize it for us

What do you dislike?

To this day there is not one thing that we would dislike about the system, we had tried others and this is the one we find easier to use and easier for new employees to follow.

We have the ease to text and email our patients right from our daily schedule, save us time when it comes to communicating with patients and also the reports keep us on track of every aspect in the office

"Great product all around"

What do you like best?

It's very intuitive with the color coding, very straight forward to use this software. This software is available in both Windows and Mac versions.

What do you dislike?

Sometimes the color coding could be enhanced. It sometimes feel old school. Sometimes the application crashes, would have to restart it.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We are using it for Billing, reminders, confirmations, downloading existing prescriptions etc. We have found that it's a one stop shop for all the dental needs.

"Best Dental Software I've used"

What do you like best?

Ease of use, I have enjoyed the customization of this tool. The tech support has been better then I have experienced. My favorite aspect is that open dental is open source which makes it very flexible and robust in it's capacity.

What do you dislike?

The accounts were sometimes confusing to read, BUT the customer service was amazing to help us figure it all out!

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

This program can be programmed to complete very complicated and specific functions. The open source concept gets program features results in a weeks or days not years or never, like other proprietary DPMS. When you contact customer service you speak with helpful and happy humans who understand your issues and work hard for complete solutions.

"A user-friendly and efficient software to use."

What do you like best?

It highlights relevant procedures when you click on a claim. The toolbar makes each feature easy to access. It is the most user-friendly dental software on the market.

What do you dislike?

I dislike the fact that certain aspects of the software are hidden within others, making it difficult for new users to discover this on their own.

"I would rather use Eagle Soft"

What do you like best?

Seeing many providers on 1 screen, which is 15 chairs. Other than that, nothing, I hate it every day.

What do you dislike?

The clinical chart is too small. Patients name on the clinical chart is too small. All print is one color. Was not provided with a trainer or formal training plan upon conversion. Too many clicks required with mouse to enter simple data resulting in inefficient use of time

"Open Dental is Great"

What do you like best?

Open Dental is easier to learn than most dental EMR systems. the software is simple, and has excellent charting tools. Its far cheaper than other tools.

What do you dislike?

Advanced features are difficult sometimes to discover. Intra and Extraoral imaging is somewhat lacking.

Open Dental is a great tool to use. We ultimately went with another product due to grant funding, but would have gone with this otherwise.
