"Open vSwitch - Distributed Virtual Multilayer Switch"

What do you like best?

Open vSwitch can operate both as a software-based network switch running within a virtual machine (VM) hypervisor, and as the control stack for dedicated switching hardware; as a result, it has been ported to multiple virtualization platforms, switching chipsets, and networking hardware accelerators.

What do you dislike?

There is nothing to dislike about Open vSwitch. It is a very useful tool for corporates.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Open vSwitch targets a different point in the design space than previous hypervisor networking stacks, focusing on the need for automated and dynamic network control in large-scale Linux-based virtualization environments. If this is something you require, go for Open vSwitch.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We used OVS to direct traffic between network functions in service chaining use cases and also for multi-tenant network virtualization.
