"Robust middle tier to deploy Oracle applications"

What do you like best?

- Ease of deployment

- Fully supported by Oracle - and comes free with any oracle database

- Ease of administration of the tool and applications deployed within weblogic

- Enhanced logging and debugging functionality

What do you dislike?

- Oracle specific (which is good and bad)

- Sometimes the debug messages can be cryptic

- Steep learning curve for application administration via weblogic

Recommendations to others considering the product

Web logic plays quite well with other Oracle applications (guess it is an Oracle product). Using it with Oracle APEX extended the capabilities of the tool. You can now use web logic to integrate with other services such as Apache FOP to generate PDFs.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We deployed Oracle APEX within Oracle web logic and enabled REST web service capabilities within APEX. This allowed us to segregate the application from the database layer (more like an MVC framework) - and allowed us to use weblogic to interact and create RESTful services to interact with data

"Very robust if you know how to use it"

What do you like best?

The admin console is extremely robust and you can monitor things that you can't in a less robust app server like tomcat, etc.

What do you dislike?

I dislike how weblogic does clusterinf additionally the CPU footprint is ridiculous

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We are using Oracle weblogic to host Oracle Integration Cloud which solves our SOA needs

What Application Server solution do you use?

Thanks for letting us know!

"Oracle made this robust application server unbeatable"

What do you like best?

Oracle weblogic as per me is the best application server to host our applications. Easy deployments, clustering capabilities make this a best software. Oracle did a good job after acquiring this weblogic server from BEA. I used to use this application server right from the BEA days and now I see this has become stable and when we moved from Sun to Linux operating system, we even observed better performance using this oracle weblogic server.

What do you dislike?

Some of the major draw backs of this Oracle weblogic is that we don't have a graphical tool to develop our scripts. We use wlst scripting tool which is provided by oracle itself, but looking forward to get some kind of graphical tool that can build all the scripts required.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Best applications server if you are looking to host your business application with zero outage and 24/7 availability

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Hosting the application on this weblogic application server.

"Oracle Weblogic"

What do you like best?

Graphical console to manage most features. Multiple managed servers.

What do you dislike?

Byzantine complexity. Although there is a ton of documentation, it's not very useful. There are a ton of security issues and fixing them is not well documented.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I'd look elsewhere. Oracle licensing is draconian (I call it the Hotel California model - you can check out any time you want but you can never leave) and obscenely expensive.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We've used it for our Liferay portal and running a number of java web applications.

"Good App Server but lacks good installation documentation"

What do you like best?

It works pretty good once installed or when installed as it is out-of-the box. It works well for web applications particularly Java applications and it's fast, scalable and stable.

What do you dislike?

The installation documentation is not straightforward. Need to go through different docs to be able to install it efficiently. It doesn't provide clear steps to follow in case one wants only to use some of its features, for example, JMS or if issues are encountered. Technical help and support are minimal. It makes me think there's no expertise available in their technical support.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you have a tight deadline, get an expert to help in the implementation.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Deployment of Web applications as well as High availability for said applications

"A must Application server to host the applications of any kind"

What do you like best?

The varied features it offers but best is the Weblogic console and WLST which is becoming secure and informative by each version release.

What do you dislike?

Didn't .like the feature of encrypting passwords for SSL certs while browsing through WLST.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We are solving variety of business problems like we are using customized oracle weblogic apps such as RMS, RIB and RPM. We have also worked on RPAS solution. I have worked from version 10.3.0 through 11 g and currently working on 12.1.3 and 12.2.1. Have also integrated to use ADF with 12.1.3 and 12.2.1. "Robust Web Application Layer"

What do you like best?

Ease of use - WebLogic is very straightforward and organizes the most important server configurations in organized screens. Major IDEs export in WAR or EAR format which is staged in WebLogic and deployed to your cluster or node.

Heavy load - Can handle 30-40 applications running on a four-server cluster at one time. The UI remains responsive and isolated on an AdminServer separate from the running applications.

What do you dislike?

Heavy memory usage - Out of the box, WebLogic is configured for mainly 5-10 mid-grade applications. You need to alter memory parameters and sometimes boost physical hardware to increase heap stack to support heavier application loads, when pushing 35+ applications on one instance.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Web applications for business use.

WebLogic allows for easy deployment and maintenance.

"Its very cost effective and almost complete "

What do you like best?

It is almost complete solution for the web logic. It has some of the good features like customizing fields which can give us flexibility for the make the it more powerful. Also it has support of the java and. Net which I like most so that we can have kind of flexibility for choosing platform.

What do you dislike?

The migration support is not that good and the tools that they provide is not as expected and make life more complex. Other than that I think everything is good.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We have taken our whole data layer to the Oracle web logic so it is very cost effective and less to maintain the hardware. And very handy.

"Oracle WebLogic for Java EE"

What do you like best?

Its ability to support Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL Enterprise and most JDBC enabled databases. It's connectivity with IBM WebSphere MQ was definitely a plus!

What do you dislike?

As with all application servers, there are concerns over performance, reliability and security. This is no different which resulted in redundant database backups just in case! Other than that, no major dislikes.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Business Process Management (BPM) and Data Mapping Functionality. Also it's support of security policies!

"The best Oracle server that I've ever used"

What do you like best?

As an Oracle Weblogic server administrator for a year I have to say that it's security is very good and you can rely on especially if you are using it with Linux operating system. I also like it's management because it is very easy to learn.

What do you dislike?

The most thing I dislike in Oracle Weblogic server is it's installation process because it is very complex and not easy to learn. You have to be professional to install it and make it stable so you can work with no problems. You have to choose the right version depending on your work.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I highly recommend it
