"Great software for version control, great GUI and friendly"

What do you like best?

The automatic merge is fantastic, it resolves most of the conflict without any interaction. Also, I love the shelve feature, it saves my life a lot of time because sometimes, I don't want to upload my changes cause by I'm in a wrong branch, so I store the changes in the shelve, go to the correct branch and then, I can apply those changes in the correct branch.

The sync between two Plastic servers works well but sometimes it fails (like I say below). We use two servers because We have two software factory, it helps in order to have a copy.

What do you dislike?

Well... sometimes the automatic merge does wrong merges. Also, you can not stop a merge operation and you have to continue until you finish all the merges. It would be great If I can cancel a merge and not modify my local files.

Also, we have problems with the sync between two plastic servers because sometimes there is a "double head" and we can not sync until we resolve the "double head"

Recommendations to others considering the product

Great support and the GUI is great to control your software version.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I'm the backend lead, we have to control the version of each person in the team. So Plastic helps to control every branch. Also, It has a nice and friendly GUI.

"Best SCM tool we have ever rolled out!"

What do you like best?

Plastic SCM makes it very easy for new users to become proficient. The menus are very intuitive and there are not too many of them. It gives you exactly what you need and not much more. We have rolled out to large 100 person teams at multiple sites with minimum impact to productivity. And we got compliments on the tool we chose. How often does that happen?

What do you dislike?

I am very happy with the support we receive from Codice Software. If there is one thing they could do better it would be offering a global concurrent license. There are no tools to determine if a user is still using the application and no reporting to determine trends in use.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Try it and you will be impressed.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Being a global company, performance on the WAN is of primary importance. Plastic was 15 times faster on the WAN than our previous SCM tool. Faster downloads and updates means more time writing code.

What Version Control Systems solution do you use?

Thanks for letting us know!

"Best source control tool I've used in 25+ years of software development."

What do you like best?

There are several features. Its fast. Its distributed if you need it. The branch explorer gives a great overview of the project and its multiple branches being worked on, and highlights "lost" unmerged work. Semantic merge to deal with code that just moves around at the same time as other changes. Its friendlier than GIT and easier for teams to switch to, from traditional source control products. Supports GIT repos.

What do you dislike?

Only issue I have is that the agile nature means that new features and fixes get rolled up in the releases. As as large team we want stability, and to control when new features are rolled out. Management of multiple respositities is limited to 1 level and a bit crude. When working distributed, developers can forget to merge back to the build server.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If GIT is still too radical for your team/company then this is the tool to use.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Multiple concurrent developments on the same software base. Traceability with bug tracking and build tools helping with accreditations.

"Better Git than Git"

What do you like best?

Fast, with the ability to be true distributed, central, or anything in between, but also with features enterprises look for like built in ACL security (at the repo, branch, and path level), LDAP authentication, and great component support.

What do you dislike?

Really it is hard to find something major to dislike. Closest I can come to it that there are not enough other people using it...yet. ;-)

Recommendations to others considering the product

Try it.

It only took us 3-6 months to "go live" because of the size of our org and how much different it was from our previous SCM (much less complex). You can easily "go live" in a matter of days, especially if coming from another branching SCM tool.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Very Fast performance, even when working to a central server.

Was very easy for us to model our component reuse with the "xlink" feature (similar, but better than Git sub-modules)

Do not have to worry about repo scaling problems with the size of the repo, the directory structure, or the size of individual files.

Built in ACL at several levels allows us to protect projects.

"A repository control of developed versions of each program"

What do you like best?

It's a robust program, it can take control of several repositories and also search for versions of a developed program during years back. It also has a very useful timeline of any created branch with their version along with a time tag. Mostly you'll use to create branches, merge with other branches and look out for controlling parallel developments.

What do you dislike?

The program is not very stable, when it works it's magnificient, but when it's not you'd like to have a few words with the creators because sometimes you can go crazy, for example any empty branch points to the source but any change and the graphical disposal of elements is suddenly the opposite as it was a few moments back.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It's not easy to use at first, but when you have it running it makes your group job a lot easier, most of all it's focused in version management but it also works for deploys in different environments once you tag any branch or

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We are solving all environment issues, developed versions, compatibilities between parallel developments and also its merge functions are very useful when there are discrepencies between different versions of the same program.

"Essential daily use tool for team work"

What do you like best?

The interface is friendly, the use is simpler than with other version control systems and the properties included in the branch search are quite useful.

What do you dislike?

The interface of conflict resolution is not very intuitive, access to some properties, such as accessing the history of a file, is not always easy to find

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The common problems that arise in a team when a shared repository is used to develop.

It provides many benefits when comparing files, identifying differences and merging the team code. It is also easy to identify which version is currently in development

"Best Version Control on the market"

What do you like best?

I love the way Plastic is managing branches. I fits perfectly with the way our company works. We are using

What do you dislike?

Hard to say, all th eproblems I had in the past are already solved (Thank you customer service!)

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Allows us to work smoothly on different problems and different variants of the application with multi-directional integration with enough ease that tech-illiterate team members do that with no supervision required... and this is a lot...

"Good product and great quality"

What do you like best?

I like the kind of options that Plastic SCM give you to help the developers at the time to upload the code. The Shelves are the best.

What do you dislike?

Maybe the merge option has mistakes and could be better. Sometimes we have error in principal branch because the merge had deleted code.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Maybe has a plugin for Jenkins could be great

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

For the business, Plastic SCM has to help us to have a centralized code repository.

"Graphic Version Control"

What do you like best?

Since I am not a coder, what I enjoy the best from Plastic is the GUI: this make the software easy to interact with.

You can easily branch and merge, and also you can easily name branches.

The client is really great and intuitive.

What do you dislike?

I can't tell to dislike any part of this software, since I found that everything I had to do with it was pretty smooth.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Plastic helps to manage remote projects, with its Version Control System.

Any team member can branch from the root, and finally everything will be merged in the complete project.

"Robust, complete and user friendly version control"

What do you like best?

Friendly user interface, easy to navigate into branchs, change sets and merging points.

What do you dislike?

Better and deeper integration with ALM applications as Polarion would be a plus.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We use Plastic SCM for all our development code, also for models and other business documents, e.g design specifications or quality management docs.
