"PowerPoint for Apps"

What do you like best?

- easy to use and create apps

- visual editor on the web and as an app

- Coding is very easy and simple like excel

- Many out of the box connectors, from excel files (local and cloud) to SAP, Salesforce or SQL Server

What do you dislike?

- no ability to print

- when you start your app, you have to think carefully for which platform, mobile or desktop / tablet devices. The Layout is not full respoinsive

- If you import data and let powerapps automaticly create an app for you, the layout is fix and not changeable afterwards

Recommendations to others considering the product

PowerApps is very easy to use and will get many updates in the near future (like integration in excel). I highly recommend to use it together with Microsoft Flow nad Sharepoint to get its full potential.

Best way to start is also to check the templates and examples from Microsoft.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

- close the gap between different applications and datasources

- create missing apps from other software, like ERP

- distribute informations (company directory etc) to all users at once

"Has Potetntial"

What do you like best?

Powerapps allows users with little to no background with coding to create apps that look professional. The true power is that these apps can be used to read and write data based on feedback. The interface itself is fairly simple but that means it's easy to use and when it launches newer versions, many of it's needed features should be there. Microsoft also provides templates that show off how to make features many business hope to use. While the program requires a large amount of time up front to learn, the forums community is highly responsive and helpful.

What do you dislike?

The learning curve is unbelievably steep. Many of the "coding" steps are made to look like you're writing an excel formula but often have confusing requirements that you either find in templates or on the forums. The apps also can became clunky quickly if you are attempting to read a large amount of data and variables to not store/function as you would hope. Right now it feels like Microsoft has tried to dumb down the coding aspect so much that it has actually made the .program less intuitive.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Powerapps is sometimes included with Microsoft packages so if it is, come up with some uses and have your employees play with it.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Internal process apps

"PowerApps for Legal Pros"

What do you like best?

I like creating apps for my different cases, especially class action law suits.

You can use this product for just about anything you can come up with. I like that there are templates for basic apps, but I also like the fact that the applications can be customized and you do not have to hold a degree in computer programming to use it. I also like that you can collaborate with your co-workers in real time.

Attorneys are always on the go. I love the fact that whatever we create the app for, that they are able to access and use the items in the app on the go.

Did I mention that it has a script builder??? Yes, a script builder!!!

What do you dislike?

There is nothing that I really dislike about this product.

Recommendations to others considering the product

As always, I recommend that you try before you buy.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Productivity, deadlines are now being met. It is really important that our work flows. This application helps us keep on task and our clients happy.

"Extremely flexible tool"

What do you like best?

Manageable for inexperienced programmers

List of available data sources is fantastic

Connection to SharePoint is nearly seamless

Microsoft is still developing PowerApps and takes user feedback and suggestions seriously

What do you dislike?

Complex apps load very slowly

Some functions are still in development (such as camera and upload functions)

Communication with Flows and Sharepoint can get complicated

Recommendations to others considering the product

PowerApps is advertised as "code-free" but there is a lot of formulation and property management required for more than basic applications. Fortunately, there are a lot of resources available to learn from, particularly video tutorials. There are also a few great consulting companies that specialize in PowerApps.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I'm utilizing PowerApps to manage a a nonconformance reporting and tracking system with SharePoint. The mobility and diversity of use makes PowerApps extremely useful. I've found the connection to Sharepoint to be nearly seamless and a good solution.

Microsoft Powerapps GUI (Graphical User Interface) is actually really good in my opinion. Easy to find your way around and get to what you are looking for

What do you dislike?

There seems to be a delay from when you publish from Powerapps till the actual version you published is live

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you run into any issues designing or building your app within Powerapps I highly suggest posting to the powerapps community as they are very helpful

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

"You have to know what you're doing"

What do you like best?

I like that a regular person that isn't a tech genius or knows how to code, can create a personalized app for them or their business.

What do you dislike?

I disliked that there wasn't so much guidance as to actually creating apps as well as the processes involved in execution to get the final product. Unfortunately I found myself not being techie enough to figure it all out.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

If a business needs to customize an app to fit their needs whether it's keeping track of the company/project budget, creating employee engagement surveys, etc they can make it happen with Microsoft PowerApps.

"PowerApps will not replace MS Access Web Apps"

What do you like best?

Easy for someone who has limited amount of data and almost no automation. Microsoft is trying to treat a database as an Excel spreadsheet. If it fits your needs - then you should go with it.

What do you dislike?

I started looking into PowerApps once I learned Microsoft is killing MS Access Web Apps in SharePoint. After spending several hours with PowerApps I came to a conclusion that business logic and automation is impossible and the PowerApps is nothing but a major step backwards. For example, if you want an automated process in which a creation of a record triggers a macro that creates a Concat string that puts together a custom formatted date and some other fields into one designated field - you will find it impossible to do. PowerApps designers reasoning is that it's a calculated field. OK, then how am I supposed to create a drop down control that displays data from several fields at the same time? Another example - you have a list of, let's say, contract. The list specifies contract terms for deposit and balance payment. In MS Access Web app I can create a data macro that creates entries in a separate table for each contract entry. If you use PowerApps you will never be able to accomplish that.

In short, I think Microsoft is having another Windows 8 moment and hope it goes away. I'm glad they didn't kill MS Access Web Apps in SharePoint server, which might be my only option now.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Only for basic, personal databases. Not a serious database.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Tried to create relational database with stored procedures (macros). Attempt failed with major frustration.

"A potentially powerful and disrupting platform for business"

What do you like best?

Many businesses rely on their IT departments (if they even have one) to provide them hardware, software, and implementation solutions to help solve business needs. Through the delivery of PowerApps, applications that IT departments would consider mundane and simple can be solved and delivered by the individuals needing the solution implemented without implementing a full-blown software development project.

What do you dislike?

Microsoft has been attempting to develop a platform for a long time that allows non-IT individuals to develop applications and to help further solidify the Azure platform in businesses. This technology feels like an evolutionary stepping stone that will most likely get phased out within a few years for another more encompassing technology platofrm.

Recommendations to others considering the product

PowerApps costs nothing to implement but will require IT buy-in to get started. As with any new technology try it out and keep an eye on the latest technologies to see if it fits your business.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

PowerApps looks like a promising technology that can be sold to companies looking for implementing database-driven applications that are often cobbled together through Access, Excel, and a bunch of shared folders and files on multiple paths. For a surprisingly common business need there are very few solutions that can help fill this need.

"Freedom to create whatever your want"

What do you like best?

What I like about PowerApps? Everything!! Since idea of apps came out to the world and everyone want to create their own unique and this software gives the power to do so. It helps to create apps that work on any device using a Microsoft Office-like experience, templates to get started quickly and a visual designer to automate workflows. It's wonderful application that gives the freedom to create anything with respect of business world.

What do you dislike?

Some guideline should be improved, maybe more instruction to help people, especially beginning to how to use the app then how to create an app. The step by step need more improvement. Anybody who want to use this app need to have a general background about business/IT.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I recommend it to anyone who have new ideas for business world and want to share it.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I'm using this to connect PowerApps to cloud services such as Office 365, CRM, Dropbox and Oracle databases, SAP and more. The great benefits of PowerApps is getting everyone connect, create and share business apps with the team on any device in minutes. Also PowerApps helps anyone in your company or organization to unlock new ideas for business.

"Built apps with PowerApps"

What do you like best?

Ease of use. PowerApps is the better way to build apps and is the next generation of scripting. You can easily and quickly build an applet that anyone can use. Its a very powerful upgrade to an old tool.

What do you dislike?

The tutorials and examples need to be expanded. Even better would be a set of standard templates or solutions that can be customized with a short amount of effort.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Take a quick look at the examples and tutorials. It will make it easier to get off the ground. Also take a look at Sharepoint workflows to see which better meets your needs. PowerApps is the next gen scripting tool for ms office apps.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Using PowerApps, we were able to create solutions to automate repetitive tasks that users can automate or complete with an email response. The users have realized a time savings and are more efficient. The client was able to have more done in less time. Workflow and approval tasks that took almost two hours were reduced to a few clicks.
