"We use PS Unified Classroom for PowerSchool Assessment"

What do you like best?

What we like best is the ability to build our own paper exams, and change around benchmark metrics to explore student progress. As well, with the integration, we don't have to create accounts for teachers or map schedules to new students: everything is automated through Clever Sync every few hours, which keeps us current with little oversight.

What do you dislike?

We dislike the portal's partitions for PS Assessment. In other words, not having dropdowns, but trees where we feel our info is hidden or not as obvious to access. As well, we think sub-populations could be better represented than how they are. It requires a good deal of toggling to find comparison data.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I think being able to centralize student data creates efficiencies around school performance from all ends: teacher to leader.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The benefits have been cost reduction, because UC allows us to integrate smoothly with our PS SIS, and that provides a one-stop experience. As well, down the line, when we can get Analytics, we should be in a position to no longer export our data for graphical needs. For the time being, of course, we have the ability to export this data, and it's been beneficial to our educators.

"PowerSchool "2.0""

What do you like best?

It does a very good job of helping you set up your classes with the categories you want along with their values. It is also easy to copy from one class to another; if you have multiple sections of a type of class. Allows you to drop grades as well as weight assignments too. Overall, a helpful tool for teachers; especially in MS and HS; not sure about ES.

What do you dislike?

Navigating is not seamless. Reports are not as easy to make when it comes to making a report that is not one of their standards. The one time I contacted customer support regarding a report I wanted to make that I used to be able to make with their older version I was told I couldn't make that type of report; that there was nothing they could do. Also, The one time I contacted customer support regarding a report I wanted to make that I used to be able to make with their older version I was told I couldn't make that type of report; that there was nothing they could do.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Do you best to understand how the system works before jumping into using it.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It helps keep track of assignments along with calculating grades. It makes it easier to show parents what their children are doing/not doing and how they're performing.

What School Resource Management solution do you use?

Thanks for letting us know!

"Nothing unified about it"

What do you like best?

I don't really know it has caused me a lot more work.

What do you dislike?

Users having to create a new user id just confuses people. Having to set up files to be FTPed every night my old software did that. Did I mention standards not feeding over from PowerSchool correctly causing teachers twice as much work to attach standards to the assignments. <sarcasm>My teachers love that.</sarcasm> We had to come up with the work around no response from support on an open tickets with this issue for two months now.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Give it another year at least still a lot things to be worked out.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I thought I was solving the problem of grades not being passed back correctly from other assessment pieces. Nope same issues as all the other software we have been using.

"PowerSchool Student Information System"

What do you like best?

The flexibility of adding custom fields and creating web pages for our data.

What do you dislike?

Sometimes the reports are not as helpful as they should be. We have to create custom reports based upon on our needs.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Consider your integrations with other systems. PowerSchool offers the most flexibility of tying your systems together. There are many other systems out there that do one thing well and other things okay. The key is to find the best software for functions that they do well and tie those systems with other systems that do things well too.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Our Student Information System is the authoritative source of student information which means we utilize the information in it to populate all of our other applications that store student information. It is valuable for us because we have automated this information to feed other systems.

"Unified=Communicating A Better Understanding of What is in a Grade/Score"

What do you like best?

Unified Classroom gives our teachers the tools to communicate with students and parents in an online environment. In the past the parents would see their child's progress after the fact, with Unified the parents are able to see assignments that are coming up and see details of those assignments. This allows them to be proactive as they work to support their child's progress both academic and social.

What do you dislike?

It has been a struggle to get parents to create new accounts and/or reconnect old accounts.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I am not sure of how to answer this one yet. I supposed the stronger communication lines will encourage parents as taxpayers to support our education endeavors.

"The support through the setup process has been outstanding."

What do you like best?

I have had access to very well trained very knowledgeable staff throughout the implementation process.

What do you dislike?

The platform is a little slower than Power Teacher Pro.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It is a big change but well worth it.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Our teachers will be able to replace Google Classroom with class pages and save time for the end user. I am always looking for ways staff can streamline work through the use of technology. It will also help increase parental awareness of their students' school work through the redesigned parent portal.

"User- friendly Program for Teachers"

What do you like best?

Taking attendance is a breeze and creating a seating chart that allows you to use their school picture is a bonus feature.

What do you dislike?

Some classes have to be duplicated, especially per quarter/semester.. can get confusing.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I would definitely give it a try if you've had problems with previous programs. It is user- friendly, especially for teachers or those who are new to the wave of technological use.

"Power School as used by a parent and as a teacher"

What do you like best?

As a parent, I like knowing if my children are marked absent, in real time, any assignments due, and their grades. As a teacher, I liked using Power School because it has an intuitive functionality, it is easy to copy and paste assignments and grade weights between classes and terms.

What do you dislike?

As a parent, sometimes being alerted for all grade changes can be unduly alarming, as grades can go up and down in the course of the day and some teachers can be behind in grading. The information is great, but it can also be overwhelming.

Recommendations to others considering the product

A Pearson product, monopoly in my opinion

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

When I used it as a teacher as my grade-book, it was easy to keep my grades updated. I now use a different program for grading, and wish it was a user friendly as Power Teacher was. I use Power School for their Haiku pages for parent communication--it isn't quite as intuitive as I would have thought, but it serves a purpose, and you can choose to lay out your page like a wiki or a blog.

"Great Product!"

What do you like best?

I love that Unified Classroom is ONE platform that provides a learning management system, grades and parent access all in one.

What do you dislike?

There were a few log in issues as we first started the product and migrated over from the old parent portal.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We are able to streamline our software solutions into one nice bundle.

"Simple To Use"

What do you like best?

For the many reasons why I like PowerSchool for my school, is as follows. It is easy to use and I can make seating charts for my students, so if I have a sub I do not have to worry about seating charts.

What do you dislike?

I do not like how there is glitches in the system sometimes. For example, it can be hard to find a student in the computer system if there is a glitch,

"PowerSchool is a great SIS, with the ability for customers to endlessly customize it to their needs"

What do you like best?

The ability to access the back-end tables, customize the SIS, and ease of use/intuitiveness of UI

What do you dislike?

Some inability to remove data (duplicate records if other data exists, due to the possibility of orphaning data).

Recommendations to others considering the product

I've never seen a district unhappy with their decision to move to PowerSchool, and I have yet to see a district leave PowerSchool to go to another SIS.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

PowerSchool has the potential to be the one software to use for all student data. The ability to use third-party plugins and other integrations makes it the go-to for all student data.

"Excellent UX for teachers"

What do you like best?

Teachers love the interface and feel that it’s intuative. They have the control and can access the data they need and want in a way that wasn’t so easy before.

What do you dislike?

Only one feature that’s lacking is the ability for teachers to see all students details in the school not just the ones they teach. Also a behavior module would be excellent.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Report card completion, attendance tracking, gradebook assignment and creation at teacher level. Built in live help

"Excellent Product to Support Teachers and Students"

What do you like best?

The ease of use. This product provides teachers with such a tool and resource they can concentrate more on helping students become life long learners.

What do you dislike?

Change is always an issue, I do not dislike the product, but the amount of times we have changed gradebook's (within PowerSchool).

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Adding in the assessment piece has been huge. We get to watch the students progress through courses and even careers as they continue to grow towards graduation and requirements.

"Student Details"

That there are some screens that I can't see. That I can only see my current students, and not the whole school. When the internet is down, I can't use it.

Contact information, class schedule, report card comments, attendance, seating charts

"User Friendly"

What do you like best?

Assessment is very user friendly and easy to understand and follow.

What do you dislike?

It's a MAJOR change in how the teacher logs in to grade book which means you need to have a definite plan in place for communicating and initiating.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The Assessment piece especially allows our teachers to create and manage assessments in one platform with one log in. Also gives the students/parents/teachers immediate feedback on the test results.

What do you like best?

Streamlined integration for teachers and communication.

Because we are implementing I can't answer most of these questions.
