Cadillac solution backed by top tier customer service

What do you like best?

Ultimate flexibility. This tool can be configured to accommodate basically any product catalogue configuration one can imagine. Also offers nearly endless control over the user experience associated building a quote (input validation, approvals, bundling, background automation, user permissions, and the list goes on..)

What do you dislike?

Complexity is inherent to a tool with almost no limitations in configurability. I'm sure that complexity varies widely across use cases but we found there to be a pretty steep learning curve for administrators. That said, the folks at PROS incredibly patient and helpful in the effort to get our team up to speed.

Recommendations to others considering the product

You get your money's worth. The implementation process was very thorough, and the handoff from thier team to ours was handled gracefully. If you're lucky enough to draw Charles Campbell as your implementation lead you will not be disappointed - the guy is a living legend.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We have a complicated product offering, a complicated set of business rules to honor, and our product catalogue data is tied together with a string of band-aids applied by the warriors of yesteryear. It is almost certain that the owners of this dataset over time had no communication with each other, and I believe they did most of their work blindfolded.

The efficiency gains we're seeing in our reps ability to effectively navigate our product catalogue are nothing short of remarkable. Beyond that, the constraints engine has allowed us to enforce the user input in ways we could never even imagine. This has resulted in significant improvements of data accuracy flowing to downstream systems which opens up an array of obvious benefits. It

Cameleon / PROS CPQ

What do you like best?

It is incredible flexible. Until now there wasn't a product configuration constraint or specificity that couldn't be handled by PROS CPQ / Cameleon. There is also an API to further enhance the possibilities. The user interface is simple and easy to understand and the main user environment is a web page.

What do you dislike?

The main output for the product configuration is an XML file. This can be a good thing in some cases but we think that would be better to save the output data in database tables by default. The tool allow to use custom tables to save the data you need to do interfaces, connecting BIs, reports and so on, but it would be better to have this feature as default.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Quotations for complex products with non standard bill of materials and manufacturing routing. Our product doesn't have an easy to compute bill of materials, so it is hard to compute raw material planned quantities, manufacturing routing and planned times (setup and process) in order to return a 100% accuracy quotation price. Also there is also a strong interface with and APS / scheduling tool to sequence the work orders generated by Cameleon.

Cool Features - Difficult Deployment

What do you like best?

Pricing guidance is great, and our sales team is able to get through CPQ with proper training without a lot of additional support.

What do you dislike?

Modification, customization, and implementation of CPQ requires a lot more development resources from the customer than I would have thought. It is not by any means a simple plug in for Salesforce. The process also seems to have a lot of unnecessary clicks and entries, which are fine once you are aware of them, but they do slow the process down. There is also no good way to push products from an Opportunity in Salesforce to CPQ, so if you run opportunity renewals or clones, it is the same as creating a new PROS quote each time. Also, administration of CPQ is not very straightforward, and they will require additional paid trainings for your teams that is not included in the initial SOW.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It won't be an easy transition, no matter what you are using. Ask a lot of questions during the discovery phase, and see how the information they ask for will impact the end product as early as you can. We ran through several iterations of the "final" product before launch because we didn't know what the decisions being made during the early phase were doing to the finished product.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We needed pricing guidance to understand willingness to pay, PROS helps address that issue. It has been very useful in that regards.

SDMO uses Cameleon/pros CPQ since 1997 for quotation (CRM) and technical data generation (ERP)

What do you like best?

the strong capacity of the configurator and the simplicity of the maintenance

the improvement of the quality in all the data that we have to manage in the different areas

a very good lean solution in the process from the quotation to the order and the technical data generation

What do you dislike?

no particular point except the production of customized documents

Recommendations to others considering the product

Pros CPQ is a global solution which covers the processes from the quotation to the order entry including the technical data generation (bill of materials and routings) and offering a simple and rapid solution to improve the communication between marketing, sales, engineering, produciton and service .

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

most of our production is made to order and the Cameleon/pros CPQ is a key advantage to manage configurations

A robust quoting tool with fantastic professional services and support

What do you like best?

The PROS CPQ tool is incredibly powerful. It enables the most complex product and service catalogues to be simplified for end users. The web interface is fairly intuitive given the wide range of functionality and adaptability.

What do you dislike?

It is not a simple system to administer. It requires a very strong understanding of data and system architecture. Perhaps that is the inherent nature of a tool that is like a Chameleon.

We have achieved a significant reduction in time of quoting with fewer errors.

What do you like best?

We have enhanced the tool with quite some good functionality. Good connectivity to sales force. Web-based solution is supporting future mobile usage.

What do you dislike?

The performance of the tool is not at the level needed for offers with higher numbers of item lines. Missing integrated document generation in the core functionality.

Recommendations to others considering the product

We have enhanced quite some additional functionality to improve the usability of the tool. This is very helpful, on the other hand, the way to get there was very cumbersome. Try to stay as much as you can within the standard functionality or include your enhancements to become part of standard.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Our offering is quite complex and needs to be adapted in the majority of the cases to the customer needs. The options given in the tool are supporting this demand in order to allow the sales engineer to generate in a flexible way the structure needed (f.e. buildings, floors, show or hide values etc..).
