What do you like best?

The ability to have stable and quality virtual / remote collaboration through web conferences/videoconferences on demand

What do you dislike?

Each participant in a web or audio conference is required to download and install and configure and register before they can join a web or videoconference. The learning curve is quite steep for registering because a participant absolutely requires server IP address and to know how to enter their name on the server explicitly (which without help from colleague can be very tricky to configured correctly) and therefore it makes it very cumbersome for collaboration on-the-fly with new colleagues.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Make sure you have really good set of instructions from your IT organisation about how to configure all of the settings specific to your organisation because even one misconfigured setting will mean that you cannot connect to your colleagues.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The ability to collaborate with colleagues in other countries and time zones where travel for face-to-face meetings is not possible. A robust solution for working with and collaborating with colleagues in real-time is the problem we are trying to solve here.

The benefits are the ability to share documents that we are working on and take a colleague through this document as if we were sitting in the room next to them which makes it far easier to discuss and collaborate on content. Also in my company many of our colleagues have not physically met and so the ability to web conference actually helps to get to know colleagues better than we otherwise would.

Great for one on one calls

What do you like best?

RealPresence is easy to use, uses little bandwidth, and the quality of the video and audio streams is exceptional all things considered.

What do you dislike?

It would be nice if during the installation process, you were given the option to set Polycom RealPresence as the default telecommunication application, otherwise, the OS usually defaults to Lync or Skype, or whatever program you have installed. It would also be nice if RealPresence had integration with Outlook to schedule meetings with conference bridge information pre-filled.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Lync and other conferencing applications such as Biba, WebEx, GoToMeeting all support teleconferencing now. Making RealPresence easier to use than other applications certainly helps.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Not having enough conference rooms and video conferencing units for people to use for one on one meetings. Having the RealPresence software allows people to get in touch with the people they need without having to fight over conference rooms. It's easy to use, easy to set up, and users can get a hang of the interface relatively quickly.

Best in class audio and video transmission!

What do you like best?

The audio and video quality transmitted is amazing. The Polycom microphones in our conference rooms work in tandem to cancel noise too, and the experience is as close to meeting in person as it can get via audio-video chat.

What do you dislike?

The infrastructure cost and effort is non-trivial. Also, a technician is needed in case the equipment power/network cord is pulled, since naive user cannot log into the Polycom hardware easily. The ramp up curve is high, but definitely worth it in the long run.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Make sure you can invest in the setup and infrastructure needed to setup and maintain the Polycom hardware in your meeting rooms. Without that, it doesn't add much value.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We have a geo-distributed team with people working in 4 locations across the globe at any point of time. RealPresense is a life-saver when it comes to collaboration and real-time communication.

What do you like best?

The quality of conversations for both audio and video.

The easy to use interface (phone pad on screen) for the users of the software. Not much of a learning curve for our users in the field, which means we spend time on other things.

Easy installation on the client side workstations. We use our deployment toolkit and created a custom installation package to push out on demand.

Back end configuration for users makes for easy administration

What do you dislike?

Small detail - and mostly related to our own networking setup. The back end communications over a secure network is a challenge to configure correctly. Our network offers a very complex web of firewalls over various remote sites. Allowing for some communications was a challenge in setup.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Have a technical conversation with the support team at Polycom and ask for detailed explanations of their network requirements.

Depending on your workstation environment, also determine the ports and protocols this uses at a workstation level.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Peer to peer video conversations that offer a high quality video and audio experience. Also something that is decently affordable, and offers an easy to use interface.

What do you like best?

I like that the messaging functions are easy to use and that I can access my voicemail through the phone, through my desktop, and through any portable device outside the office. This is one of the best systems I have ever used.

What do you dislike?

There is nothing I dislike. This software system is highly recommended!

Recommendations to others considering the product

Highly recommend switching immediately!

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

This has cut down on the time it takes me to move through messages and it also allows me to listen to messages outside the office. When there is an emergency and I am away, I can listen and respond quickly.

What do you like best?

I like the integrated paging and the Skype compatibility.

What do you dislike?

No more extensions. Having to dial the 1+ ten digit number before any outgoing call, including those calls made to other offices in my building. The time limit on dialing out.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you don't mind having your outbound calls take longer to make, but if having Skype integrated is important to you then I suppose the product is okay.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Communication with our clients. Voice mail. inter office communication.
