"An alternative solution two web/videoconferencing (peer-to-peer)"

What do you like best?

The ability to have stable and quality virtual / remote collaboration through web conferences/videoconferences on demand

What do you dislike?

Each participant in a web or audio conference is required to download and install and configure and register before they can join a web or videoconference. The learning curve is quite steep for registering because a participant absolutely requires server IP address and to know how to enter their name on the server explicitly (which without help from colleague can be very tricky to configured correctly) and therefore it makes it very cumbersome for collaboration on-the-fly with new colleagues.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Make sure you have really good set of instructions from your IT organisation about how to configure all of the settings specific to your organisation because even one misconfigured setting will mean that you cannot connect to your colleagues.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The ability to collaborate with colleagues in other countries and time zones where travel for face-to-face meetings is not possible. A robust solution for working with and collaborating with colleagues in real-time is the problem we are trying to solve here.

The benefits are the ability to share documents that we are working on and take a colleague through this document as if we were sitting in the room next to them which makes it far easier to discuss and collaborate on content. Also in my company many of our colleagues have not physically met and so the ability to web conference actually helps to get to know colleagues better than we otherwise would.

"Great for one on one calls"

What do you like best?

RealPresence is easy to use, uses little bandwidth, and the quality of the video and audio streams is exceptional all things considered.

What do you dislike?

It would be nice if during the installation process, you were given the option to set Polycom RealPresence as the default telecommunication application, otherwise, the OS usually defaults to Lync or Skype, or whatever program you have installed. It would also be nice if RealPresence had integration with Outlook to schedule meetings with conference bridge information pre-filled.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Lync and other conferencing applications such as Biba, WebEx, GoToMeeting all support teleconferencing now. Making RealPresence easier to use than other applications certainly helps.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Not having enough conference rooms and video conferencing units for people to use for one on one meetings. Having the RealPresence software allows people to get in touch with the people they need without having to fight over conference rooms. It's easy to use, easy to set up, and users can get a hang of the interface relatively quickly.

"Best in class audio and video transmission!"

What do you like best?

The audio and video quality transmitted is amazing. The Polycom microphones in our conference rooms work in tandem to cancel noise too, and the experience is as close to meeting in person as it can get via audio-video chat.

What do you dislike?

The infrastructure cost and effort is non-trivial. Also, a technician is needed in case the equipment power/network cord is pulled, since naive user cannot log into the Polycom hardware easily. The ramp up curve is high, but definitely worth it in the long run.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Make sure you can invest in the setup and infrastructure needed to setup and maintain the Polycom hardware in your meeting rooms. Without that, it doesn't add much value.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We have a geo-distributed team with people working in 4 locations across the globe at any point of time. RealPresense is a life-saver when it comes to collaboration and real-time communication.

"Real Presence offers a high quality experience for our users"

What do you like best?

The quality of conversations for both audio and video.

The easy to use interface (phone pad on screen) for the users of the software. Not much of a learning curve for our users in the field, which means we spend time on other things.

Easy installation on the client side workstations. We use our deployment toolkit and created a custom installation package to push out on demand.

Back end configuration for users makes for easy administration

What do you dislike?

Small detail - and mostly related to our own networking setup. The back end communications over a secure network is a challenge to configure correctly. Our network offers a very complex web of firewalls over various remote sites. Allowing for some communications was a challenge in setup.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Have a technical conversation with the support team at Polycom and ask for detailed explanations of their network requirements.

Depending on your workstation environment, also determine the ports and protocols this uses at a workstation level.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Peer to peer video conversations that offer a high quality video and audio experience. Also something that is decently affordable, and offers an easy to use interface.

"Calling with Ease"

What do you like best?

I like that the messaging functions are easy to use and that I can access my voicemail through the phone, through my desktop, and through any portable device outside the office. This is one of the best systems I have ever used.

What do you dislike?

There is nothing I dislike. This software system is highly recommended!

Recommendations to others considering the product

Highly recommend switching immediately!

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

This has cut down on the time it takes me to move through messages and it also allows me to listen to messages outside the office. When there is an emergency and I am away, I can listen and respond quickly.

"Just switched to Polycom"

What do you like best?

I like the integrated paging and the Skype compatibility.

What do you dislike?

No more extensions. Having to dial the 1+ ten digit number before any outgoing call, including those calls made to other offices in my building. The time limit on dialing out.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you don't mind having your outbound calls take longer to make, but if having Skype integrated is important to you then I suppose the product is okay.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Communication with our clients. Voice mail. inter office communication.

"Polycom - RealPresence - a great tool for those in an office, as well as mobile"

What do you like best?

The best part of this product was it allowed me to participate and interact whether I was in the office or around town.

What do you dislike?

The only concern with the product was that there were times that I lost my connection. This could have nothing to do with the product and just cell service or bandwidth.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I would recommend this to anyone that is looking for a better conferencing system. There are many products out there and this is one of the best.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The problems that this solved was allowing all member of the staff the ability to participate in meeting without having to visit the office

"Frequent Polycom Video-conferencing User"

What do you like best?

Great for when you are on the go, working remotely, or trying to connect with colleagues in another location. Allows for "face-to-face" meetings versus just having a call.

What do you dislike?

This application seems to meet all of my teams needs and requirements

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

My team was spread across three different locations which was difficult to try and have meetings. Polycom made it very easy to keep in contact and was a great platform to facilitate more meaningful discussions.

"Meh"

What do you like best?

It works in terms of a soft codec on Windows. Not great on IOS.

What do you dislike?

The app really bogs down on iOS... Runs fine on Windows.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Using Zoom in lieu of RealPresence for most of our codec testing.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Testing connectivity of H.323 codecs before meetings or classes held via video conference.

"Its an ideal product for webconferencing"

What do you like best?

We used this to connect to virtual conference room all over the world at different offices such as SF, UK -- London etc. It is secure and quality is High definition. Integrates with tablet to control the conference room with built in smart pairing technology. Perfect sound quality and clarity during web conference calls. Very user friendly in accessing the application. You can easily present your power point presentations and can view others in a smaller window while giving the presentation. Overall its a great reliable product.

What do you dislike?

As part of Systems Admin, initial setup was tough in where exactly the cables and connections should be plugged. The product is highly expensive.

Sometimes we experience this issue of the picture quality staggers based on the network speed. You will notice a automatic lag and pretty soon it loses sync with the voice and facial expressions. Wish there is a way to allocate certain network bandwidth to produce constant stability during the web conferencing calls.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Its a great product, worth giving a shot. If you can negotiate the pricing based on the company needs would be ideal. Also ensure that you have good network bandwidth within the office.

Its a secure application. They have been releasing many features and firmware updates and its ideal to stay on top of them.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We had a lot of benefits especially for any cross functional teams at different regions. Our board of directors use it for global all hands meeting and company wide meetings. We got this product with the thought of scalability feature. As our company is growing this would be an ideal product that suits best for our company needs.
