"REVIT LT it works!"

What do you like best?

It has everything you would need to create construction documents and design. It has all the fancy bells and whistles full Revit has and only differs slightly in that it does not do work sharing or creates in place models. There is a way to get around creating in places models and that's by creating a wall model which you can shape in any form you would like as well as create a family which contains all you would need to create an in-place model with just the added step of importing the family. It is all you need and all you want if you are a medium to a small firm that does not need to work on anything else besides Architecture and light structural and MEP. If you're doing MEP then yes you will need FULL REVIT or structural analysis or using Dynamo, if you are switching over as a newbie from AutoCAD then this will help you feel not as overwhelmed when learning BIM modeling.

What do you dislike?

There really isn't much to dislike. However, for the sake of constructive criticism I will make an effort to think of what I believe could be done different or better. Revit for a long time used the control tab to toggle to the previous open window which in the updated version has opted to create menu tabs to move from drawing to drawing. This is helpful yet when you would like to return to the previous sheet, say after copying a detail or note or anything for that matter and you control tab it brings you back right to the first sheet opened. Which means you have to control tab and control tab until you finally reach your sheet. No one realistically does this, I imagine most surrender and just select the menu tab yet this little extra step does create a sort of a nuisance when working at a great rhythm. If Revit could keep both it would be a better drafting experience.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It will do all you need if you are doing simple tenant improvements, moderate new construction projects that don't require intensive MEP or structural design. If you are doing design perhaps a push pull design product would best suit your needs however your model will not be intelligent such as the one Revit can produce. Transitioning from design to construction documents is fairly easy. I recommend

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Creating Construction Documents on traditional AutoCAD seemed to be a labor-intensive task since each view elevation, floorplan, and section would have to be drawing and edited individually even for a small change such as a door that is being placed where a previous window existed. BIM does solve a lot of the work that makes traditional drafting an arduous task. Revit LT allows you to use BIM at a low cost. When choosing the subscription version you also get to render using the Autodesk Cloud with an included 25 credits to use however you may please. It's a great deal if you ask me.

"Review of Revit"

What do you like best?

I like that the software allows me to simultaneously create the floor plan while I build the model three-dimensionally. As a designer, this makes the process of designing a space quicker since I can create floor plan drawings and a three-dimensional model of the space at the same time. Also, I like the program's organization of different drawings located along the left side.

What do you dislike?

I believe that the rendering quality can be approved. Other programs, such as V-ray, typically create renderings that are a lot more realistic due to its accurate portrayal of artificial and natural light in the space and how light interacts with objects. It requires a lot of time and tweaking in order to create a convincing rendering. Also, the software requires a lot of working memory, depending on the size of the file, which often causes my computer to shut down.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I would suggest that others make sure that their computers can accommodate the amount of memory needed when using Revit LT. I bought a new computer that would have been able to work along with Revit LT's memory usage, but within two years, my computer completely crashed due to the overload of memory usage. I needed to upgrade to a better processor so that it would work correctly. I wish I knew earlier what to purchase in order to be able to use Revit LT.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Revit LT has more cost-effective, streamlined BIM software than Revit. Yet, it is a bit more restricted in features. I currently create floor plans and models of existing spaces in the software and then design these spaces with 3D modeling. I create working drawings on this software in order to carry out the desired design with in the space.

"It's the go-to architectural drafting software for Millennials"

What do you like best?

Two key command shortcuts, white background, easy to work with multiple perspectives using tiles screens.

What do you dislike?

Cannot access structural or MEP tools or functionality within the architectural Revit Lite platform, cannot create in-place custom families.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It's the cheapest option and is offered as a monthly subscription, I recommend it for customers looking into a pilot project.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It blends the early schematic design approach of Sketchup with the CD level documentation on AutoCAD, and I can edit one model to update all views.

"Revit in the Engineering field (design specialist)"

What do you like best?

Revit platform and interface is very unique. Once mastered the productivity on this software is unmatched by any other relevant software. Revit interface is easy to manage and easy on the eye. BIM in revit is also useful when dealing with structural design.

What do you dislike?

Revit could use a better text placement function as sometimes it turns out to be a little bit finicky to get the text how you want it to look. Allowing more freedom with hotkeys and programmable hotkeys would be a bonus.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Once mastered, can be a much more productive software than AutoCAD. Simply no other software can match up to Revit's 3D modeling.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Currently staging traffic compartments of a proposed LRT system by municipality. 3D and 2D modeling is used. 3D modeling is very smooth compared to AutoCAD and easier to manage.

Easier to use and nice for smaller projects and companies.

What do you dislike?

Nothing - great software! Just too expensive a large files

Recommendations to others considering the product

Revit LT is great for companies whoa re smaller and want to use BIM for the right purposes. It is not exactly like Revit, which is a much more of a complex software - but easier for smaller projects and companies. And easy to view documents faster as well!

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It helps with smaller business tackle their solutions

"Powerful program, yet can be difficult to learn & master. "

What do you like best?

Integration between 3D design and 2D production. Nice looking visual production & line weights.

What do you dislike?

Not a very intuitive program. Even simple tasks can turn into roadblocks that may take a long time to resolve.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Definitely requires some formal training. Is helpful to have other staff available to help beginners with the program.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The program has many benefits the BIM offers, including being able to coordinate doors with schedules, etc.

"quality revit product"

What do you like best?

runs smoother in latest versions; many new functions added for 2016 greatly ease daily usage

What do you dislike?

I will always hate the Revit symbol menus until they make them easier to figure out wth they are for. I don't want to memorize 5,000 symbols and go through a maze of menus (that change ffs) just for the one and only tool that will do what is needed.

Recommendations to others considering the product

good product that has improved greatly in last few years; Revit will require rethinking all process flows for training / document creation / staffing

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

team collaboration, very rapid 3d export at any given time for collaboration or client reference; full coordinated cds are far easier in revit than other products

"Revit User of 5 Years Moderately Likes Revit LT"

What do you like best?

Most of Revit LT functions exactly the same as basic Revit. I like this because I learned to use Revit before I started using Revit LT at my current job. So far, the only part I miss is related to 3D rendering which I will describe in 'dislikes'.

What do you dislike?

For the most part, Revit LT functions the same as basic Revit. However, I do miss some of the features in Revit LT, like the in-program render abilities or the lack of decals as a function. As a design professional my clients want to see there logo's on signage or in renderings and without decals I have to Photoshop them in later.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The program perfectly suites our office and allows me to 3D model, export drawing sets for our project partners using AutoCAD and gives us the option to send RVT files to those partners using basic Revit. As an associate, it works great for me and the other designers using it in the office.

"Almost Everything you could ask for"

What do you like best?

It has most of the capabilities of the full version of revit for WAY cheaper. Great for use in small offices where there are only 1-2 people per project and not typically having work overlap. The cloud rendering option is great and saves a lot of time.

What do you dislike?

The biggest issue I have had is with the lack of ability to model in place. For certain roof extrusion shapes or massing, LT does not allow massing in place. You have to create a new component and import into your project. Can be kind of a pain when needing specific dimensions or the ability to change as the project evolves. Also the lack of ability to run the interference check between trades can become an issue when importing numerous trades' models.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If doing a lot of modeling in place, this may not be the right product, but for most standard construction, its a great product.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The ability to use this software and still have the ability to create a whole project in 3D and still integrate the models of consultants has been great. The ability to see something in 3D with one view instead of 4 or 5 2D drawings pays for itself. The drawbacks of getting LT over the full version can be overlooked for the price.

"Great, affordable BIM solution for a one-person operation"

What do you like best?

The selling point of Revit LT is the value. This program makes the industry-leading BIM software attainable for small or one-person design firms who otherwise couldn't afford Revit.

It's an intuitive program to learn, where you accurately model a building's structure, and produce fast renderings and construction documents.

What do you dislike?

The downside of Revit LT is that it lacks some of the features of the full Revit program - although that's the point, because they are offering a much cheaper alternative. Revit LT lacks collaboration, so only one person can work on a file at the same time. It also lacks the MEP systems tools, and some of the higher-level structural tools, so it is primarily for architects and owners.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Use the comparison matrix to determine which version of the program is best for your needs:

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Coordination before construction is a big selling feature of Revit LT. Also this program helps convey and sell your design to your clients, who otherwise might have a difficult time visualizing their building.

The documentation tools save time compared to a 2D or CAD-based program.

"Good but conplex"

What do you like best?

I like the ability to solve problems in 3D that otherwise you wouldn’t have been able to see in 2D drawings.

What do you dislike?

I dislike how many things require a “workaround” instead a straight forward method of drawing or modeling something.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

There are always challenges in architecture and space design that sometimes we can just get a better idea of with a “real” view or walkthrough to improve the design.

"Revit Review"

What do you like best?

Easy to use. Saves time. Rocks my socks. Being able to cusotmize partitions, wall assemblies is huge. gridlines save my lift all the time-same for floor elevations.

What do you dislike?

It CAN be hard to get used to, and people are hesitant to change because of that. Otherwise-NOTHING. It rocks

Recommendations to others considering the product

suck it up and get on board already

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Being a previous Autocad user, I dislike it's lack of flexibility in certain functions, not allowing you to easily adjust or make changes.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It is very helpful and easy to use in design applications.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I work at an architecture office and we are realizing that Revit is a wonderful product to use as architects.
