Email-Marketing Cloud

What do you like best?

I like the ease of use as a designer. I upload new images into the portfolio for the the email marketing specialist to use, no inbetween email necessary.

With regard to email marketing, if you can imagine it, the product can get it done. The product is very flexible, and handles data very well. The scripting language used within the email creative is easy to learn and very powerful, both simple and dynamic content easy to execute.

What do you dislike?

The UI is not always intuitive, and similar task are performed differently, in different parts of the app. It's clear that the application has grown over the years, and engineers keep adding to it, the problem is that there is not always consistency across the UI.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I think it's important for new customers to realistically consider their own abilities to code and create visually appealing designs. The Salesforce platform is one of the more user-friendly products that I've used for e-marketing, which I really appreciate as someone with very limited knowledge of code and design. There may be other platforms out there with a better price point, but when it comes to usability and crisp, clean final results - I think that the Salesforce product is the best that I've come across.

What business problems are you solving? What benefits have you realized?

Having a robust email marketing platform has really helped our business. The functionality is great and is ever-improving. Ease of use is a definite plus. It is easy to train new users.

Highly Recommended Marketing Tool

What do you like best?

The platform is incredibly user-friendly and when the data architecture is setup properly, a marketer can run their CRM business unit with very little dependency on IT support. The product enables a user to easily recreate or build a customer's journey through lifecycle programs - where the only limitation really becomes the creativity of the marketer, not the tool! I also find their customer support A+.

What do you dislike?

The reporting can use some additional functionality - especially when you want to summarize the performance of individual sends as part of a general marketing campaign. I found the best way to manage the data is to export it and manipulate it in a dashboard program like Tableau.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Be hungry and teach yourself. There's a ton of documentation available, it's just a matter of focus and dedicating the time to learn it. It's not difficult.

What business problems are you solving? What benefits have you realized?

We're currently trying to really test the system with dynamic content that relates to buyer personas. As digital marketers know, we have access to more customer data than ever, but the real skill is to understand what data can be used to influence behavior.

All inclusive and effective approach to reaching customers and following through on sales.

What do you like best?

The full integration with the entire Salesforce platform. It takes a huge component of our business (marketing) and it is self contained and deeply embedded in the other services of the program that we already use. We were utilizing Salesforce for years for our business, but not taking advantage with the Marketing Cloud component. Now we are and are seeing positive results.

What do you dislike?

The learning curve. It is not difficult, but the fact that you have to learn new ways of doing old things so that it can be supported within the Salesforce system.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you are already a Salesforce user or have this product as the focus of your business operations, and if you are exploring new ways to market your business or product, then this service is really a one stop shop for you to reach your audience and follow through on communication with them.

What business problems are you solving? What benefits have you realized?

We are transitioning from a different style of marketing for our business and are slowly integrating the Marketing Cloud to help us reach more of an audience and to continue to improve our follow through on leads.

Acquired email marketing service

What do you like best?

At the end of the day, Exacttarget gets the job done in regards to sends and clicks/opens. I'm able to upload HTML's into the system and they do hit the majority of email hosts still looking great. Reporting is fairly easy if you figure out what you're looking for.

What do you dislike?

Everything. The platform is dinosaur-like compared to all others that I've looked into and am considering for the future. The templates are very old-school and look more like something you'd find in your spam folder than something that was created with precision and was well thought out. Also, the send time is extremely slow, especially when compared to Campaign Monitor and MailChimp. It's very annoying that Salesforce doesn't offer sign-up forms. We've had to go another route just to get this done. We acquired Exacttarget when we purchased another company, and it was purchased via a third-party reseller. That being said, our contact there is a 'copy/paste links' kind of rep versus actually being helpful. Salesforce support give us 100% run-around and we never get any sort of solutions from them.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Definitely do not purchase from a third-party reseller. I think this is at least 80% of our problem. The third-party company setup the system before we owned it and it's just an awful mess right now. No segmentation and lists/groups are all over the place with a ton of duplicate emails.

What business problems are you solving? What benefits have you realized?

Our main focus is triggered and transactional emails. We also do marketing for products/services and automation. The only benefit thus far is that the emails actually do send, which is a feat in itself, but nothing else is a "win" for us.

Hidden gem

What do you like best?

How easy is to to use it. The SFMC is by far the best tool I have ever used as a Marketer. I learned by myself how to use Automation Studio to send email campaigns and I was able to build a comprehensive customer lifecycle with over 60 automated campaigns running daily. The product is reliable, powerful and handles very well automated emails.

What do you dislike?

The reporting. When you have so many automated campaigns running daily, the reporting becomes complex and unfortunately this part is not well developed on the tool. To obtain a report by campaign is very difficult and it's key to have the results available in an easy way. However, there's a way to compile them, just that is not user friendly.

What business problems are you solving? What benefits have you realized?

It's key to have a team at your company that likes to be self-taught. The functionalities can be learned but it's important that the users are curious enough to discover how far the tool can go. If the users don't go the extra mile, they won't discover and use all the potential the system has, then the tool will be used as a basic ESP which is not what it is. Global Support is great helping figuring out some things but at the end of the day it depends on how persistent the users are to make the system work as they want to.
