Hidden gem

What do you like best?

How easy is to to use it. The SFMC is by far the best tool I have ever used as a Marketer. I learned by myself how to use Automation Studio to send email campaigns and I was able to build a comprehensive customer lifecycle with over 60 automated campaigns running daily. The product is reliable, powerful and handles very well automated emails.

What do you dislike?

The reporting. When you have so many automated campaigns running daily, the reporting becomes complex and unfortunately this part is not well developed on the tool. To obtain a report by campaign is very difficult and it's key to have the results available in an easy way. However, there's a way to compile them, just that is not user friendly.

What business problems are you solving? What benefits have you realized?

It's key to have a team at your company that likes to be self-taught. The functionalities can be learned but it's important that the users are curious enough to discover how far the tool can go. If the users don't go the extra mile, they won't discover and use all the potential the system has, then the tool will be used as a basic ESP which is not what it is. Global Support is great helping figuring out some things but at the end of the day it depends on how persistent the users are to make the system work as they want to.

Exact Target Enterprise--Scalable and highly functional for limited teams

What do you like best?

The Relationship Managers, always eager to help, the Support line if there's ever a question (even down to telling me my forgotten class schedule) are major pluses. Love the detailed tracking for sends, Automation Studio for teams where the I is more prevalent than the we, and the self-serve capacity of the tool. Help if I need it, but well packaged if I don't and need to schedule a timely email at 2am. Triggered emails, Automation, b2c or b2b, it can handle it all.

What do you dislike?

Learning curve to niche product lines (like Automation Studio) for first time users. As a busy professional with limited resources, unless I call the support line, pour through forums or take a paid class, it's sink or swim. Wish Best Practices were more prevalent and for any users using one of these product lines, spend the cash on a certified partner or professional services implementation. Automation pros should look elsewhere for a fully baked solution.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you're not familiar with the in's and out's of Exact Target (acquired by Salesforce in the not too distant past which gives some serious heavy lifting to this solution), it'll be slow going. Luckily, the Relationship Managers and 3Sixty, the user community forum, provides a learning curve that will help novices along. Practitioners and admins alike will find the somewhat intuitive navigation becomes second nature. For the C-Suite, the pricing is easy to explain and the ROI even easier to explain.

Plan on spending some time up front to get used to the system, especially Journey Builder and Automation Studios or other niche products, but plan on being wowed by the friendly support lines and Relationship Managers.

What business problems are you solving? What benefits have you realized?

We use Exact Target for several functions: Part Email Marketing Solution, part Marketing Automation and specifically aimed at funneling contacts, leads and opportunities along the purchasing funnel within targeted personas, industries and additionally through our customer lifecycle. As a limited team, Exact Target allows us to operate as a bigger team than we are.

Integration of the Marketing Cloud and Sales Cloud makes everything better

What do you like best?

The Marketing Cloud provides a great platform for our organizations marketing team to reach our customers on a massive scale. It allows them to create targeted, automated campaigns that help drive revenue and lead generation. The fact that all of the tracking/reporting data can be seamlessly pushed back into the Sales Cloud arms our sales teams with invaluable information when conducting their due diligence prior to any calls or meetings with prospective clients.

What do you dislike?

The user interface isn't always the easiest to interact with. It's difficult for the casual user to become proficient because it is so robust and complex. There are many features that really require a developer background in order to fully leverage them.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I would recommend SFMC to those customers that have a focus on retail consumers. When it comes to B2B marketing, there are other products that might be a better fit.

What business problems are you solving? What benefits have you realized?

We are always looking for ways to automate our business processes, and the current focus is on how to successfully onboard a new agent to sell our products. A key component to this process is providing educational resources, which we can do via SFMC emails and landing pages.

Largely good product - dreadful everything else.

What do you like best?

The product is powerful, robust and does what it says on the tin. The segmenting tools are easy to use and intuitive.

What do you dislike?

Everything apart from the product itself is woeful. The account management team also operate the sales function so as soon as you've signed on the dotted line there's no reason for any further care. The training is inadequate, the integration was a nightmare and any time a problem crops up we've by and large had to resolve it ourselves. The support function are attentive people but not thoroughly versed in the goals clients are trying to achieve and consequently take so long to solve things that it's more time-efficient to do it ourselves.

We've had our account switched off over a bill for £125, despite sending them proof we had indeed paid it and we've had products taken off our account without reason or warning. We'd been told how things should be done, spent weeks doing it accordingly to find out that after all that isn't how things should be done and we'd been promised a whole heap of things that never materialise, all of which have strong negative impacts on us as business.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you have a team of IT people, a team of HTML savvy CRM execs and a team of creative marketers then ET may well work for you. If you're resourced in a lean fashion I could only recommend you look elsewhere.

It's a great tool for segmenting and sending lots of e-mails quickly.

Great solution, with some limitations

What do you like best?

It's fairly easy to find things in the navigation. Things are organized pretty well. There is also tons of features and reports. Not that I have the time to get into them, but it's nice to know that they are there! It can be pretty easy to use once you are familiar with its quirks and if you have a decent knowledge of HTML.

What do you dislike?

Disclosure: I'm not using the current version at my company. The email wizard can be hard to use, which I know is a challenge for a lot of solutions that try to make HTML accessible for those that may not be. Not being able to re-sort content pieces is a huge oversight in the design of this solution (although, I'm told this might be addressed soon).

Recommendations to others considering the product

Ask lots of questions. Assess what your needs are in this type of solution and ensure that this is the solution to those needs.

Communicating business information to employees, with the ability to track usage.
