Excellent budget ERP for Medium and Small Businesses

What do you like best?

SAP Business One is one of the best ERP for medium or small business in the market today. It has a wide variety of modules and it is really easy to use and setup. You can trace every transaction and know what user performs it, at what time, and in which date, for all your audit needs.

What do you dislike?

From previous versions, the Software Development Kit (SDK) has had some errors that are still not fixed in the newest versions of the product. You can not affect the database directly trough SQL queries, so if you want to develop new functions inside the app, you have to use the SDK that includes method for each object in the system.

Recommendations to others considering the product

The license cost per user is a little expensive, and then annually you have to pay approx. 20% of the total cost of your licenses for the support from SAP, but what you get in return is totally worth it. You get a world class ERP for your company and the support is really good.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We use the product for our complete sales and purchase process, mean while is fully connected with the finance module and it creates automatically a journal entry for every transaction that affects the general ledger. The reporting module has many options and is really customizable, and you can create your own reports once you get familiar with the structures of tables and fields in the database.

Convenience at Your Fingertips

What do you like best?

I enjoy that the software is easy to use. I would definitely rate it as user friendly. I was able to pick up on how the Software worked rather quickly, have no previous background with this kind of Software. In my personal opinion it enables the user to keep track of everything they need without over complicating the process, which is always nice. It also makes it easy to go back and track past transactions and customer information for use in the future. It also does a great job of providing various reports that help Management with day-to-day operations and budgeting.

What do you dislike?

It has a tendency to be slow at times and in order to use some features it does require updating which adds to wait time. I think the biggest downfall of the Software is the inability to edit things. As human beings, we tend to make mistakes, whether it be an address, e-mail, contact name, etc. and SAP does not allow one to go back and make changes to things like invoices, etc.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It's a great program for smaller business looking for a simple solution to track transactions and analyze how their company is doing. It's great for many users and there are tons of features to control who can do and see what.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

SAP has made it easy for me to go back and track what samples have been sent out. I am realizing that to best utilize this Software, all info. available to me must be input at the time an Order is created. SAP has also assisted with solving issues within several areas of our Business i.e. Accounting, Management, Finance, Sales, Marketing, Inventory, Shipping, etc. It has allowed us to cut down on the amount of paperwork we have to retain as well, as we can go back and look through SAP to find what we need more often than not.

What do you dislike?

There is very little to dislike about SAP Business One. Some people may claim that it is 'expensive'.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Consider SAP Business One for the following reasons:

1. Optimal, high-value, modern solution from the global leader in the ERP system niche

2. A clear roadmap of upcoming enhancements which protect your investment in this platform

3. Feature rich, easy-to-use system that you can deploy in stages

4. Supports multi-currency & multiple languages

5. Extend as your business grows - inter-company processes, extended manufacturing features, etc with certified apps / add-ons. Implement only the extensions that your business needs. Avoid 'code clutter'.

6. A modern solution that is keeping up with the times - simple user interface, in-memory technology, browser based access to cloud versions

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

SAP Business One is a single integrated business administration platform. It is usually adopted by companies to replace several 'scattered solutions' that were adopted in an 'organic' manner during the development of the business. These 'islands of automation' are difficult to sustain. Lots of time is lost reconciling data between these legacy systems.

With SAP Business One, customers will typically develop a Business Blueprint after a project is kicked off. During the creation of this blueprint, processes will be optimised and the SAP Business One system will be configured to support the revised processes. Data quality will improve. Decision making can be done on a 'real-time'. Time will be freed up from minimising/avoiding mundane & repetitive manual activities. More can be done to grow the business with this improvement in productivity.

In addition, SAP Business One, becomes an ideal platform for future growth - RFID based inventory management solutions to save time, costs and accuracy, new sales channel with e-commerce, mobile warehouse solutions, greater access to company data on mobile devices (iOS & Android) for sales and customer relationship managers.

SAP Business One is heading in the right dirrection

What do you like best?

SAP Business Ones lets a user multitask and simplify their work by letting the use connect to multiple data sources at the same time. Typically some system only let you connect to a single database for example but SAP grants the user to run queries from multiple source simultaneously. If your with data, you already knew how mush hustle saving this tool can be.

What do you dislike?

very hard to get use to it at first, but after a solid two to three months a user should be able to handle simple task and queries and navigate their way around. The problem it's that you can do so much, it almost overwhelms the users. I believe anyone should start with small steps at the time.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

The running time or certain items can be hard to handle. If a user sets things up to run via automation, then they should think about the times and never run too many items at ones at the same time. I found it easier to pick random times for example 4:17am, in order to avoid crashing the system.

A complete solution with room to grow

What do you like best?

The breadth and depth of functionality combined with ease of use

What do you dislike?

SAP has a very strong focus on SAP HANA which limits the opportunities for SQL Server users to get more valuer from the solution on Microsoft SQL Server

Recommendations to others considering the product

Selection of a partner is critical - make sure that you evaluate both B1 on SQL Server and on HANA and ensure you need what HANA offers before making the additional investments. If you have a small number of users and analytics is not critical then SQL is a good platform to deploy on vs HANA

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Simple management of accounting functions as well as comprehensive management of debtors and creditors as well as simplified work processes by utilising simplified screens and workflow processes

Okay system but not great (version 8.82 or below)

What do you like best?

Screens are user friendly, it uses a SQL database and crystal reports along with it''s native reporting utility. Users can add fields and modify screens. Look up screen it's a reporting utility in itself. Seems very stable. System can lock periods to allow accountant to control accidental postings to wrong periods. Screen are simple.

What do you dislike?

Users can get financials by posting date, document date or due dates??? Financials should only be available by fiscal or calendar periods and always by the transaction date. Customer support is lacking badly. You get better results by googling your issues. Processing payments involves a lot of clicking. The system posts the costs of a sales when deliveries are created, it them records the revenue when the invoice is created off that delivery. It should record both at the time of invoicing. If the product has not left your facility the delivery is just a departmental transfer. Customer balance screens are hard to read. General journal entries need to be reconciled??? It does not do commissions, period. Accounts payable balances also hard to read.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If your implementation budget is large there are better options. Evaluate in depth

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Lot tracing, backflushing, costing, etc. It was of limited use.
